When I arrived at AJ Spins and Scent this morning, there was this feeling of Happiness. Optimism? I cannot place my finger on it, but it was there as soon as I arrived.
I was directed to the last floor which belonged to the CEO and holy hell it was a huge floor. Three secretaries worked at the front desk before getting to my desk, which is opposite the CEO's office.I just had to stand to admire how spacious and CEO-ish the whole place looked. One of the secretaries, Miranda, showed me my desk, which was a small opening office space right there in the corner of the office. It has a desk and a chair with a pop-up wardrobe that has plenty of books and files inside it.“I think this is all you need right now, you can just sit around and await the next instruction,” she said to me before disappearing off to her front desk.Everyone was hostile, the two other ladies didn't even utter a hi, even after I made sure to send a greeting their way. At least only Miranda was able to say something, but then the high stiffness in her shoulder shows she is just as hostile as everyone else. After sitting here for two hours without having anything, I think I must have lost it for a minute.I rearranged the desk to my taste, flipped through every file on it, and even set out calendars, but there was nothing else to do.Fed up, I stood and walked to the front desk where the other ladies were sitting“Hi,” I said to them, putting a smile on my face. “I umm have been sitting around and there isn't….”“Mr. Jaime isn't here yet, and that is who you work for” one of them interrupted me, eyeing me down. She has pink hair, with a full bust, and her cheeks which she painted with so much blush you can dust off the shining part replied to me.Her bust is fake, she must have had them done and then went around feeling like everyone else should bow to her.“Yes I know that, but there must be something for me to do or.....”“You don't just get it, sit around there and await further instructions” She blurted out“Oh I see, you just had to make it more clear”She must have seen the fire in my eyes and knew that I wasn't ready to back down until her hot ass and fake tits knew I'm not one to pick around with.“It's fine Clarissa,” Miranda said, “I will just….” She was flipping through files on her desk when the elevator opened and everyone stopped what they were doing, all attention right there. He came out of the elevator looking drop-dead gorgeous, with a dark shade over his eyes, he strode majestically until he walked past us.He screams expensively, from the suit to his role and the exceptional way he walks. Not only that, but he doesn't have to do much to be noticed in a place. When I turned around to look at the others, I wasn't the only one transfixed, every other person had their mouth agape as they all trailed their eyes after him.“I cannot believe such a male species exists,” The busty brunette said.“Right,” the other who barely spoke said after her as they suddenly seemed to realize where they were and just chuckled. The chuckle suddenly died, and I turned around once I heard a scrape of returning shoes.“You,” he said, pointing his finger at me, “I'm sure that isn't a place of assigned duty”"Right, yes" I left the place and walked as fast as my leg could carry me out of the reception area until I was back in my little office space. His entrance is majestic, is that walk even normal?? Who walks like they are in a runaway with a dark shade in an office space that has enough light.I felt a presence in my office and lifted my face to see he was standing at the door.“Good morning Mr. Jaime” I stood up from my desk, scrambling for a way to stand. He regarded me sternly, I could feel his gaze on me even through the thickness of the shade he was putting on.His gaze is hardened, almost making me feel so little. He took a step and another until he was crowding the entire small office space.Gosh, the man is tall, over my height. I feel like a little sand animal standing with this giant of a man.His hands were in his shade before he gradually removed it and for the first time, I could see the color of his eyes.So blue, the deepness of the iris and the blue marks around it, with the longest lashes I have ever seen on a human. Is this even fair? Why do men have to work less difficult to get good lashes, while women have to add a fake for them to look presentable??His hair is so dark and thick and full, the new-shaven style makes it so pleasant to the eye that you want to run your hands on it.“I don't want a repeat of that” he suddenly said, and I snapped out of the dense“A repeat of….”“I'm not done talking, don't ever interrupt me, and listen first before asking any question” He snapped at me.I press my lips together, stopping myself from asking another unnecessary question. He regarded me again before his posture changed to a straight one and his eyes did not leave my face.“Listen, I emailed you. I will be here around 10 am” I looked at the clock in the office, and it was exactly 5 minutes to 10 am.But the problem?? I didn't check the mail,“So I presume the coffee I requested is ready then,” he said, taking a step back and turning around.“Coffee?? What coffee??” That made him stop, right at the door of the office, before he turned around and cast a glaring eye at me.“I told you I needed a coffee as soon as I got back, and the mail did you send them??”I opened my mouth, then closed it and repeated the same action. The concern here is that I have no idea what he is talking about.“Of course, you didn't, did you even check the computer? I made sure to add that in the mail I sent you last night”Oh shit, he did email me but I must have missed that part.“Umm I just I will check it but I.....”“It's your first day and the promise of working hard seems to have already vanished” he took a long stride until he was standing right in front of me.I think I forgot how to breathe for a moment, he crowded over me with the prowess of his sheer nearness and I must have gotten rid of breathing together. God, this man is tall. His hands are on my desk as I look down at what he is doing. He is tearing out a paper and as he does so he looks for a pen and then stares at me.I took a step back, the man seemed to be too large for her.“You are on a month's probation, and subsequently, I'm sure you will find your way out” he signed something on the paper and straightened himself.“Also get me my coffee in 20 minutes and I want those emails sent before one hour."Without saying anything else, he walked out of the office.I looked at him go, the strength he possesses. The way he knows exactly what he is doing as he goes.I watched him walk away until he opened the door to his office and disappeared.“Wow,” I muttered, trying to bring my breath back to how it was supposed to be before.“Shoot” remembering I have 20 minutes to get the coffee and less than an hour to get the emails I have no idea about sent out. I scrambled for my pouch and ran out of the office to get him his damned coffee.* * *A coffee place so close to the office is where I'm currently standing. There is a long queer in the coffee shop and I happen to be at the back.I look down at my watch and there are exactly ten minutes before my time expiresI almost fell to the ground as soon as I remembered I didn't even know the coffee I was meant to buy."Oh shit” I swore hard, louder than I wanted to sound, and suddenly every eye was on me.Pressing my lips together, which is something I have formed right now, I gave them all a reassuring look before my head was back down, and I was swearing inside. Not only do I not have any idea of the coffee he wants, but I also don't think I will be out of there for at least another 20 minutes.“Must be tough, huh?" someone said behind me and I turned around to see a man standing at my back. I hadn't even noticed when he appeared. He has glasses over his eyes, with a gray t-shirt on, and he looks typically like a tech guy.“You can say that again” I sighed in defeat.“That is how it is, working for Adriel Jaime,” He said, his voice sounding like it was about to offer me strength.“Wait, how do you…” He laughed and shook his head.“The moment you ran down to this place with that much Force I think everyone around here knows who you work for, plus that swear too” he shook his head.Gosh, another reason to sigh again.“It doesn't get that bad though, you looked pretty determined,” He said, touching my shoulder lightly.“I am not. I am on the verge of turning in my resignation letter because I don't even know the coffee he wants, plus I have just five minutes before the time he gives me runs out” I exploded in front of him and his eyes lowered as he gave me a pitiful glance.“Oh I don't usually talk like this, oh maybe I do, but I'm about to explode more right now” He chuckled.“I could help,” He said.“Oh, how??” I ask, looking seemingly interested.“When you walk to the third roll right there,” He points to the roll with a man standing over and attending to others, “Tell him you are here to take Jaime's coffee, and you are good to go” he ends with a shrug.“Oh my god you are a lifesaver” I beamed at him and almost hugged him but then realizing myself I laughed instead, “Thank you so much.”Without wasting much time I ran to the front as he had said, and even though others were there I made sure to shout at the top of my voice where the man heard me, and miraculously he just turned around and looked under his desk before handing me a paper bag.“You were running late,” he said,I smiled at him, took the paper bag, and ran as fast as my leg could carry me out of the place and back to the office.I have less than 2 minutes, I will never make it there on time.JAIME She is the most undeserving of the chance to work with me, yet I went back home and the thought couldn't leave my head. So why not, why not let her work here, then I can know her motive for watching me like a hawk. There must be a reason to find her on the list of applicants when she had just been watching us the whole time during that night. But apart from that reason, there was also something about her, something I could not place my hand on. A sharp knock on the door and it is pulled open with my voice commanding the person to enter inside. She is sweating profusely as she enters the office, and then she stops before letting her eyes rim over the space. She seems to appreciate what she is seeing before realizing herself and then walks to the desk. “I am so sorry I'm like 4 minutes late, I just made some mistakes and there was a little problem, and then….” “You can drop it on my desk, Miss??” “Clarissa Miller” she supplied, of course, I knew her name. “Miss Miller”
JAIME “The new girl huh” Jaycee gave me a raised brow “She seems to be perky” “And clumsy too” I added to him.“Uh-huh, I can add something else I noticed from her,” He said as we walked down the elevator.“I'm sure you can keep the whole list to yourself Jay you just need to show me this, and we have a business to talk about too” I reminded him as we walked to the outer part of the building. The place that holds most of the perfumers for the testing of the new product. He led me straight to the place and I saw they were already gathered around waiting for my entrance.“Good morning Mr. Jaime” the head greeted, walking up to me “We have everything prepared already and waiting for you,” He said, leading me and Jaycee to the places where the new products are kept.I looked at the branding first, making sure the bottling was accurately how I wanted it to be, and thereafter, I took the new sample bottle he had handed over to me.I sneeze around it before spraying it in a handkerchief an
CLARISSAChecking the wall clock again, I might have become more restless than I was before because what am I still doing here when it's already time for the end of work for the day?I mean those three ladies' voices raised high when they left 12 minutes ago shows exactly that, but here I am still waiting for a minute that will never happen. After another two minutes had passed, I knew my impatience had taken a better part of me and I would not sit around.Standing up, I walk straight to his office and breathe in before knocking.“Come in,” he said authoritatively.Gosh, his voice is always commanding, never the type to be soft-spoken.I push the door inside and walk to the office. Closing the door, I stood at the doorstep. He raised his eyes from the file he was looking at and regarded me sternly.I must have taken a minute to look at him again, his suit jacket discarded, his sleeves rolled up and a bead of sweat rolling on his forehead.I gulped down and then looked down at the flo
There was an unusual silence when I walked into the office the next day, especially knocking on Mr. Jaime's door and finding out he wasn't at the desk yet.I walked into my office space, organized the work things that I had brought and pulled my laptop open as I looked through the schedules and answered some emails that needed my attention and still he wasn't here.He has a lot of work to be done today and he is meant to have a meeting this morning. Does that mean he went to the meeting first before coming to the office??At the sound of the elevator I stood and looked at the door as I held my breath and waited for him to show up, but when the foot came scraping I knew he wasn't the one."Good morning Miss Miller." His brother James smiled at me as he walked to my side of the office. There was so much going on in his demount, his eyes were lazy like he had spent the whole day trying to refresh himself and yet he slept through it all."Good morning Mr. Adriel, I'm sure you are here to
There was no way what I was staring at could be real. My mind spun as I scrolled through the comments. The internet was eating this story alive.“When did this happen?” I asked, my voice trembling as I handed the phone back to Jessy. My hands were shaking, and my thoughts were racing in a million directions.“It happened this morning. It’s all anyone’s talking about at the office. I’m shocked you didn’t know,” she said, her tone laced with disbelief. But could you blame me? I didn’t keep up with half the things happening around me.I grabbed the bag beside me and walked to my room, my body buzzing with unease. This couldn’t be real. It didn’t make any sense.I fished my phone out of my bag and dialed his number. I held my breath, waiting. Voicemail. Of course. His phone was probably blowing up nonstop. With the amount of gossip that people are ready to consume, he will not have a moment of rest until his phone is dead so I got that part. Frustration boiled in me. There was no way I c
JAIME ADRIELThe previous morning, as I got ready for work, my phone rang from the bedside table. Already running late, I ignored it.The call came again, followed by a flood of notifications that lit up my screen. Standing in front of the mirror, tie in hand, I hesitated. The sheer number of alerts was impossible to ignore. With a sigh, I grabbed my phone. As I held it, another call came through—Jaycee. I answered, putting it on speaker.“Man, what’s up? Are you the one blowing up my phone with messages? What’s going on?” I asked, annoyed.“You haven’t seen the blog yet?” His voice was hoarse, his tone tight. “If not, turn off your phone now. I’ll be at your place in five.”The tension in his voice unsettled me. Frowning, I clicked on the first link an acquaintance had sent to me. My hand froze midair as I read the headline.“Business Tycoon Adriel Jaimel Accused of Sexual Assault.”The words were sharp, cutting through my mind like a blade. My breath hitched.“What the hell is this?
The chaos in the house was exactly what I'd expected, but the calmness in Jaime's eyes was not. For someone accused of something so delicate and career-threatening, he seemed too composed. His hands were buried deep in his pockets as he descended the stairs, his gaze locked on mine, unwavering until he reached the bottom. "Clarissa Miller," he said softly, his voice carrying a weight that sent an unwelcome warmth through me. I hated that I'd missed hearing him say my name over the past two days. I wouldn't admit it aloud, though. Instead, I swept my eyes across the room, feigning disbelief at the disarray. "Is this how you handle chaos?” I tripped on my tongue and blurted, biting inside my tongue for saying that. He didn't respond. Instead, he turned and walked away, his silence beckoning me to follow. A relief washed over me because why did I say that?We moved through a narrow corridor, the noise fading behind us, until we stepped outside. The crisp air hit my face, and for the f
JAIME ADRIELAnd so, the drama continued. We had all believed that once she confessed to lying that none of her accusations against me were true, that the entire thing was her desperate attempt to gain attention, it would mark the end of the problem. Instead, her words had set something much worse.“I thought this mess would have blown over by now. What is this?” Jay dropped his tablet to my desk, the screen lighting up with a bold, criticizing headline that made my stomach churn.“JAIME ADRIEL: FROM PLAYBOY TO CLOSETED GAY?”I let out a laugh, though it barely concealed the irritation bubbling beneath the surface. “Unbelievable. Last month, they were calling me a playboy, and couldn't get enough of how many women they thought I was with. Now, suddenly, I’m gay?”Jay leaned back in his chair, arms crossed, his expression a mix of concern and exasperation. “Well, you did laugh, so congratulations. Glad you’re finding the humor in this.” He paused. “But Jaime, this isn’t just gossip any
I shifted awkwardly on my feet, trying to gather my thoughts. How well did we know each other? Professionally? Enough to get by. Personally? Barely at all.Paula, still smiling as if this were her favorite part of the day, leaned closer, her sharp gaze sweeping over us. “Let’s start simple. What’s Miss Miller’s favorite color, Jaime?”I turned to him, arching a brow, curious about what he would say.Without missing a beat, Jaime’s lips curved into a subtle smile. “Blue,” he said, his voice steady.I blinked. He was right.Paula raised an eyebrow at me. “Is he correct?”“Yes, but…” I hesitated. “How did you know that?”Jaime shrugged, looking smug. “You always choose blue pens during meetings. And your laptop case is navy. It wasn’t hard to figure out.”I felt my cheeks warm at the casual observation. He noticed things about me? Why?Paula clapped her hands again, clearly pleased. “Good! Attention to detail. That’s a strong start.”“Your turn,” she said, spinning toward me. “What’s Jai
He continued what he was doing, completely absorbed in his task. I didn’t mind watching him, his movements were so fluid, so purposeful, it was as if his hands instinctively knew what they wanted. Watching him like this gave me a strange sense of peace I didn’t realize I craved. The silence between us stretched on, but it was comfortable, almost soothing.“When I was in school,” he began suddenly, breaking the silence. He glanced at me with a soft smile. “I had a roommate who loved cooking. To him, it was therapy, a way to escape the chaos of the world. I used to watch him all the time. Before I knew it, it became my therapy too.”He didn’t need to check if I was paying attention; I was utterly captivated, hanging on every word. Who is this man? He felt so different from the one I thought I knew, it was disarming, almost surreal.“Yeah, I get it,” I said, my voice soft. “Cooking can be therapeutic. Right here, right now, it feels like therapy.”His eyes met mine for a moment, silenci
I woke up the next morning with a strange, jittery energy buzzing through me. Even so, I couldn’t bring myself to turn on my phone. Somehow, I just knew my face would be plastered all over the media.Pressing my face into my pillow, I screamed, muffling the sound as reality dawned on me.I knew what I had signed up for, I knew this was part of the deal, so why was I feeling like this?“What are you doing?” Jessy’s voice cut through the air, pulling me from my loop.Groaning, I flopped onto my back and screamed again this time without the pillow covering my mouth because I wanted to let out all the feelings that were compressing to my chest.“Let me guess,” she teased, sitting on the edge of my bed, “last night didn’t go quite how you imagined?”I covered my face with my hands, my voice muffled. “It was a disaster. Every time I knew he was watching, I completely froze.”Jessy was enjoying this far too much. “Okay, tell me how you feel.”Before I could respond, her phone buzzed. Her eye
Stunning. That was the first word that came to mind the moment I laid eyes on her.Clarissa Miller had always been beautiful, anyone who saw her would agree. But tonight, there was something different. Something radiant. It might have been the way her smile lingered, or how the sleek black knee-length dress fit her like it was made for her alone. Whatever it was, Hope had worked her magic, and I couldn’t deny that it worked well.As Clarissa slid into the car beside me, there were so many things I wanted to say, but none of the words would form. Each thought stayed perched on the tip of my tongue, refusing to leap into the silence between us.The car moved, but the air was heavy, an awkwardness settling between us like a wall I wanted to break down.“So…”“Thanks for this.”We spoke at the same time, our words overlapping. I glanced at her, and she smiled softly, easing the tension just a little.“Ladies first,” I said, offering her a playful grin. She looked away for a moment, then b
For the first time in months, I allowed myself to sleep in. The feeling was pure bliss, and I wasn’t ready to give it up.“You don’t want to eat breakfast? It’s right here in front of you,” Jessy’s voice cut through my haze as she tugged at me, urging me to eat the meal she had prepared. She had taken the day off so we could spend time together, a rare treat considering how hectic things had been for both of us.I grumbled, tightening my eyes shut and refusing to get up. Even though I was wide awake now, I couldn’t bring myself to leave the warmth of my bed. Deep down, I knew that the moment I stood up, reality would hit me like a freight train.“This is for Zoe,” I whispered to myself, a mantra I repeated every time guilt crept in about the situation I had willingly placed myself in.My phone buzzed on the bedside table, jolting me. Groaning, I reached for it and froze the moment I saw the sender.‘The driver will pick you up in an hour. Be ready’I bolted upright, clutching the shee
For the first time since I met Adriel, I saw a genuine smile on his face, a real one that crinkled his eyes and revealed his teeth in full display. It was mesmerizing, radiant, and utterly unexpected. I couldn’t look away. If I thought he was handsome before, this smile was a transformation I wasn’t prepared for.Realizing I was staring, I cleared my throat and quickly dropped my gaze to the floor. It was better to count imaginary specks of dust than let him see how deeply I have been staring at him.“I’m sure this will go well,” he said, his voice steady and confident. “You won’t regret your choice. This is going to be a blast.” His eyes stayed fixed on me, but I refused to look up.I reminded myself why I was here. None of this was real. Adriel Jaime wasn’t my boyfriend; he was using me because it was convenient. I was just a stand-in for the countless women who’d drop everything to be in my shoes. If he had ever announced that he needed something like this, it would be an audition
The past week has been chaotic. Meetings polled together, deadlines piled up, and the air in the office felt thick with tension. Everyone was walking on eggshells, the whispers about Mr. Jaime’s media scandal never far from anyone’s lips. After a particularly disastrous third meeting of the day, I was sorting through notes when Mr. Jaime approached me. His presence was controlling, even in moments like this.“Come to my office when you’re done,” he said briskly, his tone leaving no room for questions. Now, I stood outside his door, nerves coiling tightly in my stomach. I paced, trying to think of what I might have done wrong, but my mind came up empty. Just as I raised my hand to knock, the door swung open.He stood there, tall and imposing, his piercing gaze locking onto mine.“Are you planning to stand there all day?” he asked.I shook my head, my voice caught in my throat as I followed him inside. The tension in the room was noticeable. He gestured for me to sit, and I obeyed, my h
