Hazel’s POV

As I worked with the healer while trying to prepare things, I knocked over one of the mixtures to the ground as I looked up at Mara who stopped what she was doing and stood akimbo, staring at me with anger.

“Well? Don’t look at me. Pick it up,” she said as I nodded quickly and bent to pick up her things.

I fixed all I was to fix and she waved me off.

“Clean your hands of the mixture. And don’t use water. Just use a clean rag. That mixture can bring up hallucinations and whatnot and I don’t want you puking all over my floor.”

I nodded and ran out to do what she had asked me to do.

But when I raced through the back door, my ears picked up the sound behind me.

I turned just in time to see Lily smiling at me with a bucket of water.

“It’s time to see how good you are with sewage water,” said Lily as she tossed dirty water on me.

I closed my eyes as the stench from the water felt like it was stinging my body.

I cried out in frustration as I could not believe that anyone would be

Orion’s POVI was seated in my office, going through a few files as I dropped the call I had with Mara, the healer.I smiled for a second. For someone whom she had said was giving her a tough time, she really wanted Hazel to stay in her place and learn the healing techniques.A knock interrupted my thought as I saw Kael my beta coming in.He had a frown on his face but what was unusual about it? He always had a frown. It was almost like nothing could make him happy.“What is it this time?” I muttered as he closed the door behind him and walked to sit in the seat across from me.“I saw her in the market today,” he said as I shrugged.“You’ll need to be very specific if we would be playing the pronoun game with each other.”“I’m talking about Hazel. The rogue.” “She’s not a rogue. And she is under our care. Never fail to know that.”He nodded and went on. “She was on her own in the market.”“Maybe she went to the market with Mara to buy something for their healing lessons or something.

Hazel’s POVI laid on the floor without even breathing normally as I didn’t want to piss off Lily. She was lying in her bed while tapping noiselessly on her phone. It was clear she couldn’t sleep either and it was midnight.I wanted to ask her so many things but my wolf decided against it.Saying anything could have me in trouble. So I laid down quietly and prayed for this night to be over in a breeze.“Stop breathing so loudly,” she said which had me frustrated as I sat up to look at her.I was wearing her clothes as she frowned at me.“Make sure you enjoy tonight because this is the last night you’ll ever sleep in this house.”That was it. I was done being insulted for no damn reason.“Why do you hate me?”“Because you’re a dunce.”I scoffed. “Coming from you.”“What was that?”“I said, coming from you.”I wasn’t backing down. She had done enough to me and I wasn’t taking anymore of her bullshit. Not anymore.“Ever since I’ve been here, which might I remind you is just in the last t

Hazel’s POVI waited in the living room with Mara and Lily as we stared at the passed out man.She was visibly shaken from what she had seen but I leaned back in my seat and didn’t say anything.“I’m sure we can all be glad that Hazel was there in time to save the day,” Mara said as Lily nodded. She was happy that she was alive and she pointed at the man who was stirring without his mask. Before we had taken him into the house we had removed his mask to see if he was someone we actually knew but it turned out he had a totally different scent and face from anyone we knew.Mara took a pan and smacked him over the head as he passed out again.I looked at Lily and suddenly burst out laughing as she followed suit with Mara doing the same.Suddenly all animosity she had towards me disappeared as she smiled in my direction.“You’re not that bad,” she said as I shrugged.A knock on the door had us looking at the door as Mara got up and opened it to see Orion and Kael coming in with a few gene

Hazel’s POV We got back to the palace that night as I got to my room and fell on my bed. I was happy to be home. Lily entered the room and looked around in marvel. She was shocked that I was having a large room as big as this as she folded her arms. “Who are you to the alpha?” She asked as I shrugged. “A guest I guess,” I smiled. “Wait, you’re trying to tell me that the alpha gave you this large room that is on the Same floor as his just for being his guest?” I shrugged. “I guess so.” But she shook her head. “Nah. You have to be doing something extra. Are you sleeping with the alpha?” I was shocked. “Are you fucking kidding me? Keep your voice down so no one will hear you.” “So you are really sleeping with the alpha. I should have known.” But I growled at her. “It’s not how it works. Just stop it. I just got in here and he was kind enough to give a pregnant lady a house and a job at your aunty’s place. Please don’t even start with the insults.” She sighed. “I’m sorry. F

Hazel’s POVI froze for a moment, unsure of what to say. Before I could respond, one of the injured men glared at me and crossed his arms. “I don’t want her treating me. I’ll wait for someone else.”His words stung, but I tried not to let it show. I glanced over at Mara, who was watching the situation with a raised eyebrow. This was harsh for me to explain to anyone as I was being treated like I was trash. I could only hold back my tears as I watched them and tried to hold myself from bursting through the doors and running away.I took in deep breaths and decided to talk to them to see if they would be calm and let me treat them.“I’m sorry if you see me as less than you but please I need to treat you so your wounds don’t get infected. There’s wolfsbane inside your injured legs so let me…”“Oh shut it you rogue,” another growled towards me as I kept my face down to not make them angry. At that point, I got scared that they were going to lynch me by the way they were acting up.Mara

Hazel’s POVI entered an open room to see him standing half naked and I could swear that I was turned on looking at him,He had the body to make a woman cry for attention. What about him was dragging me to him?Somehow he had the body of that man I had met during my night in that hotel.I wondered if it was him and if he was the one who had made me pregnant.Maybe it was just my imagination but I shrugged.Either way, I was still ready to handle this in a very different way than I would usually handle it.I would get in and ask him if he had by any chance gone to my former pack.I would try to toss the question as a random stuff so he would not trace me back to that pack.I was already an enemy by naming myself from that pack. All I had to do was show up as someone who was different and who just happened to be in that pack recently. But before I could make up my mind to get in, I heard someone breathing behind me.I turned to see Kael standing there and staring at me with narrowed eye

HAZEL POVI started to feel a little bad for him. He had tried so hard, but it was clear he was no match for Orion. Still, I couldn’t help but shrug and smile. “I told you alphas never lose to their betas.”Kael glared at me, but there was no real anger in his eyes. “You’re enjoying this, aren’t you?”I laughed and nodded. “A little, yeah.”Orion stood over him, offering him a hand. “Good effort, Kael,” he said, pulling him to his feet. “But maybe next time, you’ll think twice before challenging me.”Kael grumbled something under his breath, but I could see the small smile on his face. He might have lost, but he was still a good sport about it.Lily crossed her arms and pouted. “Well, I guess that’s it, then. Kael lost, and I have to admit defeat too.”I turned to her, grinning. “Looks like you backed on the wrong tree, Lily.”She stuck her tongue out at me, but she was smiling. “Whatever, Hazel. HAZEL POVWe fell into a comfortable silence, and I couldn’t help but stare into his eyes. They were so deep, and it almost looked like they were swirling with different colors of brown. They were also warm - much warmer than I expected. It was as if the world around us suddenly disappeared.I didn't know how much time passed while we just sat there, staring at each other. My heart began to race in my chest and for some reason, it felt like he was tugging at me... opening something inside me that I kept locked up.Before I could process anything, Orion shifted, his movements purposeful. I held my breath as his lips descended toward mine. Then he brushed his lips over mine in a featherlight kiss.Everything stopped at that instant. His mouth was warm and soft but powerful just like his presence. Not demanding, but it left me feeling stunned all the same. When he finally pulled back, I was so stunned I couldn’t think straight. Orion smiled at me, a rare genuine smile and my breath hi

He’s not a fool.”She nodded and stepped closer. “What’s the next step?”I took a moment to think, then a slow smile spread across my face. “Now we play the long game. I’ll make it look like I’m walking away… giving Hazel time to heal. But I’ll be close enough to strike when the time is right.”My maid bowed. “Understood.”I tossed myself back against the pillows, squeezed my eyes so hard that a few tears spilled out. I would be an angel in Orion’s eyes—for now. Hazel had made it through another day, but I wasn’t finished with Hazel yet.Orion might have thought that he could keep me away, but he w

Evelyn’s povThat morning, I felt ready for what was to come that day. I got up and put on something nice but not over the top, it had to be responsible looking and it was what I hoped Orion would think if he saw my outfit. In the dining hall, Hazel was already there eating and already dressed up.“Good morning” I said with a smile before sitting across from her.She looked up, a little surprised. “Good morning, Evelyn.” Her voice was soft, hesitant.I poured myself some tea and picked up a slice of toast. “So, are you excited for our shopping trip today?”Hazel gave a small smile and nodded. “Yeah, I guess. I haven’t really gone shopping like this in a while.”I chuckled lightly. “You should not be bothered about a lot of things. I’ll handle the cost. You should just give on what you need. Clothing, cute shoes and maybe even accessories.”She laughed a little, and I noticed she was starting to slowly let her guard down with me. “I just really need some casual clothes… or a few dresse

Evelyn’s povIt was late, the moonlight barely shining on the path as I headed to find Leif in the dark shadows near the edge of the pack lands. He was leaned against a tree, his arms crossed and his eyes sharp when he looked up at me. He must have sensed my seriousness because he pushed off from the tree to stand tall.“I need you to do something for me,” I told him.He smirked. “What now, Evelyn? Another one of your schemes?”I rolled my eyes. “Don’t act so self-righteous. You’re here, aren’t you? You know what I always call you for so don’t act so scared now. Listen, tomorrow Hazel and I are going shopping, and I want you to set up an attack.”“An attack?” He arched an eyebrow.“Yes, an attack!” I bit out. “Get some of your men—masked, obviously—and do it. Make it look real. I want her scared as hell, but don’t hurt anyone on our side. I’ll take care of the rest.”Leif tilted his head to the side, narrowing his eyes as he studied me. “And what’s your endgame this time?”I took a st

Hazel’s povI sat across Evelyn, gazing at my half eaten breakfast, trying to make sense of everything that happened. She was making an effort alright, but I couldn’t help thinking that there’s something more to this.“Hazel?” her voice brought me back from my thoughts.“Yes?” I said with a confused look on my face.“The food park. Would you want to go with me?”I blinked, not knowing how to reply. “A food park?”She beamed at me. “Yeah! It’s a lot of fun and the food there is amazing too. We can try different types of cuisines, maybe do a little bit of exploring while we are at it too. It’ll be good to…bond.”Bond? Right. That word, I wondered if she knew what it meant. To be honest everything within me wanted to tell her to get lost but I knew it would be rude of me to say that to someone who was trying to be close to me. She was trying to be nice and here I was thinking of how to be mean. I wanted to say no, that I couldn’t go, but I knew that I couldn’t do it.There was no excuse

Evelyn’s povThe moment I entered my room, I summoned my maid. She came quickly and made a little bow. “My lady?” she said, as she always addressed me.“Well, I want you to get something nice for Hazel this morning, chicken and peas, or whatever else she likes best.”I could feel the tension rise between us as the maid had not expected that from me.Her eyebrows rose, but she didn't say anything. "Yes, my lady," she said eventually. "And do you want me to prepare it with... the poisons or with anything else?"I narrowed my eyes at her. "No," I told her, just as firmly as before. "Not yet. Eventually, yes, but for now I need her to think I'm someone who cares about what happens to her... someone she can trust. I’m trying to lure her in so she can be on my side and not be against me. That way maybe we can be friends and I can show her that I’m not so bad.”The maid hesitated in a bow for a moment before she nodded. “I’ll see to it at once.”“See that you do.” I waved her away and watche

Hazel’s povI woke up that morning feeling intense pain in my stomach. If that was the only problem I was having then I wouldn’t complain, but to top it off, my head felt like it would explode from the thumping going on in it. I suddenly got nausea and felt like throwing up but held it back as I laid in bed.I winced in pain and put a hand over my stomach, willing whatever it was causing this havoc to subside. There I was, just closing my eyes to try and get the pain away as my head throbbed mercilessly when a knock came at the door. I groaned louder. I was not in the mood for visitors. Grunting, I pulled myself up from the bed and trudged over to open it, every step causing my headache to increase tenfold.A frown instantly formed on my face at what stood before me – Evelyn, all perfect smiles and sugary sweet expressions. The rage that filled me up that morning was nothing to write home about. I just wanted her off my sight and I would do anything to have her gone. “What do you wan

Evelyn’s povI couldn’t move after hearing that. I was frozen in my stead. My heart pounded in my chest in a furious manner as I held onto my stead and prayed for the best. She was pregnant? With Orion’s child? My head spun and each gasp became harder than the last as I sucked for air that wasn’t there. Before I knew what happened, I turned around and was tearing down the hall as I ran back to my room. “This can’t be happening,” I whispered to myself, feeling like my heart was about to beat right out of my chest. “No one is taking Orion from me—not her, not her child.” I paced across the room, my mind working at a mile a minute. This wasn’t a threat; this was an invasion. If Hazel thought she could come waltzing into my pack and take Orion was her man, she had another thing coming. My wolf started to bring up ideas.“Maybe we should shove her down a bridge or something. Evelyn’s povOrion was standing near the entrance, deep in conversation with one of the guards when I arrived back at the packhouse. His powerful aura dominated the space, but as soon as he noticed me, his eyes locked onto mine. I didn’t look away. Instead, I held his gaze until he started walking toward me with that same commanding stride that made everyone step aside.I sighed softly, bracing myself. This was going to be tricky.“Thanks for finally showing up,” he said with a frown. “What were you really thinking?”“My alpha, I have no idea what you’re talking about,” I said with an innocence as he growled and got close to me.“What do you mean by that?” He growled. “You took her to a club. You took hazel to a club without even consulting me. Why would you do such a thing?”I bowed my head, letting a subtle tremble creep into my voice. “Alpha, I’m so sorry. I wasn’t thinking. Evelyn’s povI swirled the drink in my glass, the golden liquid catching the muted light of the room. The music vibrated through my feet, but my thoughts roamed elsewhere. Where had Hazel wandered off to? Not that I cared—I pushed her from my mind and took another sip. She can handle herself.“Where’s your friend?” The bartender asked me as I shrugged.“How the hell should I know?” I asked as I took a sip of my drink. “She can get lost for all I care. This is a party. Maybe she’s somewhere else failing someone.”I was about to bring the glass back up when a figure slipped onto the stool beside me. My gaze flickered up, and for a split second, I winced before painting on a smile. It was Kael. His muscular shape had me turned on temporarily and if he wasn’t the beta I would have gone for him. But I wanted to have a partner who would be second to none and would be strong enough to make me higher than everyone in the pack.Being with the beta wouldn’t give me the same confidence as being
