"Can someone please call the fashion police?" Melissa said as she burst into an exaggerated laugh the moment she set eyes on me right in the middle of the crowd.
Looking at her, one would see the clear difference of our treatments.
She wore a shiny golden low cut dress that had its slit drawn all the way to her thigh. It fitted perfectly well on her as it revealed every inch of her curves. She had been laughing until she intentionally fell into Kent's arms, leaning in to whisper in his ears.
"Look what the cat dragged in, a fugitive in our midst!!!" She declared.
The near stony expression on Kent's face was rather strange. It seemed like he was trying hard not to laugh and had his lips in between an upturned smile and a stony stiffness. Kent happened to be the most handsome boy I had ever laid eyes on in my life and there was more. He was our future Alpha, captain of the football team, and the boyfriend to Melissa. Man, he had me nearly mesmerized each time I lay my eyes on him and just now, I stood still staring at him.
"Clara, you idiot!!! What are you looking at?" Melissa's cruel voice brought me back to reality as she noticed that I was staring at her man. Her reaction seemed to embarrass Kent. He carefully moved his gaze from her and stared nervously at his toes.
This was certainly unlike the Kent we all knew. What happen?
One of her cronies who stood beside her stared off towards me. I recognized the mean girl from all the times I had been humiliated. I expected nothing less from her right now as she looked at me like I was some garbage she had found along the way.
"Oh my God, Clara. I doubt you know how to read. Didn't you understand what they meant when they declared the dress code to be formal?" She asked me sneeringly as she looked at me.
"It also says on the invitation, 'ladies and gentlemen' I did not see a part for bullies or did I miss that?" I asked, pretending to be surprised as I turned to look at them now. "Don't you know those words?"
"How dare you?!!" Melissa spat out angrily as she walked in front of me. She grabbed a cocktail from a nearby table. I had not anticipated her next move when she upturned its content over my head. "Get lost!!! We don't welcome bastards here."
Seeing her set the pace for the upper hand, Melissa's cronies took the forefront of my humiliation as I stood looking myself over.
"Neither do we accommodate dirty things covered with fleas!!!"
"Your father should have taken you with him when he chose to fall in that trap!!!"
"You're pathetic!!!" They spat their cruel words at me.
I did not want to be called raccoon eyes when the drink ruined my eyeliner, so I raised my head up and glared hard at them. Tears were threatening to flow from my eyes already.
Ding! Ding!! Ding!!!
The sound of the auditorium bell suddenly rang and I grew expectant. Nine more rings and I would welcome my 18th birthday and mate.
It was at this point that a hand suddenly pushed Melissa aside, the cocktail glass falling from her hand with a loud noise as its glass shattered all over the space causing gasps to emit from the onlookers.
"How could it be you?!!!"
He stood before me after asking the question. He glared really hard at me.
Kent seemed really scared by what he had just done and even more, abashed as he stared at me. His pupils seemed to dilate to their maximum while I stared directly at his eyes. I could see the reflection of my disheveled self right in his eyes as the goosebumps spread around my spine with the realization of what was happening.
Melissa had found her footing as she glared at him really hard.
"What are you doing?" She demanded and then it struck her as to what was happening. She put her hand over her mouth as she attempted to drown her shock.
Kent in the meantime was getting over his bewilderment and started to see how serious the situation seemed. He turned to look at her helplessly.
I wanted him to look at me just to be certain that I was not dreaming but he was already stuttering.
"Babe... I...she..." He could not find the right words to express himself.
"What?" Melissa demanded angrily.
Around us, there were sudden murmurs between the students as everyone seemed to be keying in with the current situation of things. I had become the center of attraction right now. Their voices spoke in whispers about what they were making of the situation. I gasped now and looked at Melissa.
"I am Kent's mate." I stated.
The moment I spoke those words, my heart increased in its tempo. I could hear my blood in my ears pumping faster. It was nearly like I was losing grip of myself and would probably die right on the spot.
Upon hearing my words, Melissa grew pale instantly.
"That's impossible!!! There must be a mistake somewhere!!!" She screamed, shaking her head which caused her hair that had been pinned up in the most perfect way to fall down and scatter around her.
Melissa seemed to keep shaking her head like that was what was going to stop this reality from happening. However, I stood there and turned now to Kent as all decisions were his own to make. He held the crowd at bay as I anticipated him to acknowledge me as his mate. Time was ticking gradually and he had said absolutely nothing to me.
When he eventually spoke up, those words came with the sting of a double edged sword.
"I cannot accept you as my mate because my heart belongs to Melissa. I shall not be conformed to being in a union with a traitor's child." He said the words as he turned to take Melissa's hand and led her inside.
“I, Kent Smith, reject Clara Silver as my mate!”
There I stood as the crowd walked around me, my world fell apart.
The moon goddess was indeed cruel.
KENT'S POVI am supposed to enjoy this. I usually enjoyed it in the past whenever Melissa and I were together. But here I laid on my back as she rode me yet, my mind was not here. She had noticed and took both my hands which she guided carefully around her waist but I still was not having it. I was lost in my own world and suddenly she stopped. It took me a couple of seconds to notice that she had stopped humping me as I turned to face her but being careful to avoid her eyes and its glare."What? Why did you stop?" I asked her, sounding less concerned about it."Is something wrong?" She asked as she searched my face for answers."No. Of course not, babe. It's football training today. It was really tough on me but let's not stop now." I said to her and I needed no one to point out to me, the hollow in my voice. She got off instead as she turned over and started to wear her underwear. I lifted myself as I made support with my elbow."You're leaving?""Yes. You're clearly not interested
CLARA'S POV Fate is always cruel to those of us at a disadvantage and I had come to accept my fate. The moon goddess had decided to add a bag of salt to my injuries the moment she decided that Kent was to be my mate. It could have been anyone else but she had to choose him of all persons who was already in a relationship with Melissa. I had found myself going off to my comfort zone, after receiving a series of beating from Melissa and her cronies. while my estranged mate looked on. I sat right down there by the corner, looking around to make sure no one was approaching. It was the school's backyard, my very own safe zone where I could freely express my broken hearted emotions in tears. I thought about the pain of every humiliation I had gone through which included the most recent assault on me during our supposed combat class. I had run away from them after they had their satisfaction fulfilled. Suddenly, a shadow hovered over me.Ate the same time, I felt a strange gust of wind se
ALPHA DERRICK'S POV I could not believe that I was beginning to feel the wakefulness of emotions within me as I sat close to her. From the moment I had seen her, I had myself drawn to her and eventually observed her from afar. I learnt of her name. Clara Silver, who seemed to be the one suffering from the entire school's torture, both physically and emotionally. I had been trying my hardest to keep away from her as I could, not make it seem like I was trying to interfere with her life and activities. But it was impossible because of something. My wolf, Reid. I had never felt him this restless with the desire to mark a woman. he clearly had declared Clara as his mate. Being around her was really tough and I found self restraint the hardest thing anyone would be subjected to. As I sat down in front of her, it felt like I was running out of breath. It had been this way, heightened emotions and all from the moment I picked her up. I could feel the restlessness of Reid as he sought for
CLARA'S POVI had left him while he was reading. I knew that I could not stand another moment of awkwardness between us both.It felt really worrisome. I decided to try and avoid him which prompted me to call in sick for two days in a row. I could not face him, certainly not with the kind of thoughts that I had been having, when he had been trying to treat me in the medical room.I had to return to class eventually the next morning, when it came to notice that I should have gotten better off whatever at this point. My thoughts were already centered on the fact that I would be getting recompense for getting Melissa yelled at.Well, that was to be expected as she would find a way of making me pay for every inch of humiliation she had been exposed to.I got into school and made for the locker area. The moment I entered through the door, there was a sudden stillness as everyone went mute. I could not understand why and what the problem was this time but I knew better than let my guard do
CLARA'S POV I woke up this morning and discovered that I had a high fever. I asked my roommate to help me request a sick leave, and then I lay in my dorm room. So many things have been happening recently, and I feel extremely exhausted. In a drowsy state, I drifted into a dream.I dreamed about that fateful night, the night that changed the course of my life."He deserted us!" Beta Benson, still a Beta at that time, exclaimed excitedly, waving his battered right hand. "I called out to him, as warriors, we cannot betray our pack."He paced around the room, his shadow swaying in the flickering fire of the wobbling fireplace. Everyone had a serious expression, their gaze fixed on him."He pretended not to hear me, hunched over like a featherless chicken and ran deep into the forest." Benson continued, "I was worried he would fall into the enemy's trap, and guess what! Oh, boy, he fell right into it, blinded by fear!""It's not true!" I, an eight-year-old, screamed at the edge of the cro
ALPHA DERRICK'S POV It was the night class for the special werewolves and basically, one of the reasons I had agreed to come to this school for this program. The combat class was one thing but the ongoing training for the newest elite werewolves that would be joining my ranks at the borders was one important program. "We must never underestimate the enemy and should always be ten times ahead of them." I said as I showed samples of vampires to them with the aid of the projector. "Excuse me sir, but I have a question." A student was talking to me and I wanted to entertain his questions. "Go on." I said to him, "What other threats lie there?" He asked. "There might be others but our basic concern is the vampires. We must pay attention to the core area of concentration which is defeating them... They are our mortals..." I was saying when suddenly I felt a little lightheaded and staggered a little. Beads of sweat had begun forming suddenly on my forehead and it ran all the way throu
CLARA'S POVI had heard the voices from the distance as clearly, students were making their way around and I could see the light crossing the skies. It would soon be morning and I was stark naked.I heard voices approaching where I was and my eyes fell on the pond by the corner and quickly, I dove in, scaring a frog on a water weed in the process. I knew already from the weakness I was feeling that there was absolutely no point in trying to revert back to my wolf form as clearly, my first shift had drained me of every ounce of strength.I could only hide and hope they do not come to the pond.Suddenly, their voices began to draw closer and I knew they were walking right beside the pond. "Moments like this and I seriously wish I am a witch. I'll just morph to invisibility with magic." I thought to myself as I started to get a feel of the cold around my stomach.Clover noticed how hard it was for me to keep hanging on when she decided to keep me company with her words."It seems someon
KENT'S POVI needed to get myself in order but it would seem that I had lost control. The restless feeling was quite unlike me and suddenly, a wave of horniness swept all over me as I felt a rise in my hormones. I needed to cool off as I rose up from my room and dashed in a haste towards the girls dormitory. It was not the first time I had been here as being the heir had given me certainly privileges. I made straight for Melissa's bedroom and pushed it open. She was there, chattering with her entourage and I would have to admit to the fact that they seemed really excited.I glanced around at the darkness in both my thoughts and my eyes."Out! All of you!" I yelled at them."Is everything okay, Kent?" Melissa asked me, looking like a puppy soaked in the rain."I want them out, this instant!" I yelled again.Whatever she would have said to me was caught up in her chest as she looked at her friends and nodded. They clearly could read clearly that I was in no mood for their gimmicks as th
