Chapter 14

"She is gone."

Those were the words that forced his eyes open. Everything in his life is carefully selected. Including his chambers, the placement of his bed, and the maidens responsible for cleaning but right now those two maidens have given themselves jobs of alarm clocks.

"Oh, Ash so I've heard! It is thrilling no one has ever attempted such madness."

He really truly hates it when people are not focused on their jobs which results in gossiping. It is, even more, an offence that his own servants would gossip of his own kingdom in his room.

“I think I just found my next two meals,” he thought to himself. Ash and the other girl whose name he was yet to learn.

"You call it thrilling?!" The other girl whispers and screams. "She is dead meat. Grim will kill her for sure and I assure you it will not be a pleasant death."

"Hmm, you are right. But it still amazes me that she is so bold."

Now his interest is piqued. Who was he killing ruthlessly and why?

The sorceress hissed, putting more pressure on his hands until bones broke all the up his arms."Yes," he groaned. The sorceress held his hand a second longer before releasing him. She turned to Rose who was watching her with eyes wide with wonder. She offered a small smile. "It was nice meeting you today Rosa, but you must go with him and stay with him. The streets of Nostville are unkind, I may not be able to reach you quickly next time."Rose nodded. "Oh and do not let Grim boss you around, he needs a strong hand."Rose almost laughed out loud. She will be her stand-up to Grim, at least not as this woman who said her name was Mary did. From would only crush her to dust but she didn't say so. She only nodded. Chapter 16 Rose was startled glancing from the woman at the door to the Remains of the guards on the floor. Feria had no mercy. She has not left any pound of flesh on the guards. She had cleaned them down to their femur. Even their bones are sucked dry.Now she was panting. She has caught a very strong werewolf scent coming from the room. She had immediately found the urge to tear them to pieces. When she had seen Judy she had thought to herself that this was the reason for her uncontrollable thirst. But the pull she was feeling was far too much for one person. Feria looked at Judy with bloodshot eyes. It was like she wanted to devour the latter as soon as she got the chance. But her blood thirst grew more as soon as she saw the only person who was in the room with Judy was the guest that Grim had said was off-bounds. “On your feet, Judy!” Feria's commander and the servant scrambled to her feet. “Here I am, Vampire princess. How can I be of service?” Her tone betrayed fear even

Chapter 17 “What just happened?” Judy asked as soon as the door got shut. “What's happened is that I was so close to burying my fists in Feria's face. How dare she walk in here and accuse me of trying to snatch Grim, I don't feel anything for the man.” Judy sighed. “I was terrified. After you had escaped from getting killed by Grim, I had thought that you wouldn't get spared by Feria.” “I can't believe my luck too. Is she usually that ferocious.” “If you think that Grim is dangerous, Feria is on another level. She kills and preys without any reason. It depends on her mood. When she starts on a spree, she doesn't stop until she is satisfied.” “Thank heavens she didn't eat both of us.” “No, she could not touch you. The only person who can put her in her place is Grim. The only reason she can't get to you no matter how much she wants to is because Grim had ordered her not to.” “What is the deal between her and Grim anyway?” “Know your limits, Rose. Chapter 18 “What the hell is happening, Judy?” Rose asked in a stranger tone. The hands locked around her throat were strong. She tried to fight the grip but it wouldn't come off. It felt like two iron bars had clasped over her throat. Rose tried to look at the person holding her. It didn't feel like it was her friend there anymore. Every vein on Judy's face was strained, her face had grown pale and her eyes had lost its pupil and every other pigment. Her arms have grown twice in strength and even though she has lifted Rose a couple of inches from the floor, her feet were still resting on the floor. It was like Rose's weight didn't bother her one bit. “Put me down please?” She begged but Judy didn't hear her. Rose had hoped that there was a little bit of her friend left in there but she was wrong. “Who the hell is in there?” “You don't recognize this voice, huh? Or are you just playing dumb?” Rose first thought that the stranger in Judy's body was Feria. That was the only person

But she had to interrupt his rest sharply. Grim had spun to his side ready to rip apart whoever it was. It wasn't until he noticed it was Feria that his features softened into a less aggressive state. “It's time to get rid of that new girl. Everything about her spells evil. First, she comes in here and disrespects you and now she is trying to take you away from me. I don't like what is going on here.” “Can you stop nagging for once? Is it until I tear apart one of your limbs before you learn a lesson?” Feria rolled her eyes. “That's not even the reason I came here. Get up from your slumber, we need to talk. It is important.” “Can't whatever y

Chapter 20That was a question Grim didn't know the answer to. It was a yes or no question but nothing about that question was simple. “I can't answer that question right now. You know that we have a lot on our hands. The pack desperately needs us right now and I can't let something as flimsy as marriage keep us distracted.” “Stop beating around the bush, My Lord. That's what you've been saying anytime I bring this topic up. It's always one excuse or the other.” Grim looked away. Of course, he was going to keep coming up with excuses. Maybe because he was never truly ready for marriage. At least he didn't see himself that way. “It was never a matter of time, okay. It's a matter of being ready all round. I'm not ready for the whole commitment just yet.” That sounded like another excuse but really that's just the truth. It was one thing to walk down the aisle or whatever the case may be. But it was another thing to live with the same person forever.“What's there to be proposed f

Chapter 21 Grim was on his way to see Dale when he saw Feria approaching. He kept on walking, neglecting her. She had to run down to catch up with him. The padlock holding her lips shut broke as soon as she got to him. “Lord Grim. What is the news I'm hearing of you going on a trip?” She asked. Suddenly pleasantries mattered to Grim. “Is that how you're supposed to greet your leader when you see him?” Even in her anger, Feria bowed. She kept both eyes open in case Grim wanted to use that opportunity to flee. “Now that I have greeted you, can we get back to the reason that I'm here? I have just been told that you're taking Rose on a trip to see Vanessa.” “Where did you hear the news from?” Grim asked, annoyed. He couldn't believe that Rose couldn't keep her mouth shut. He had wanted the trip to be discreet. He wanted to slip out without being noticed. His planned company was just Dale and Rose. “Who other than the woman you're trying to elope with?” Grim sneered. “Elope with?”

Meanwhile, Feria stormed out of the courtyard. She was happy to be brought along but didn't know why he was punishing her by banning her from bringing along a handmaid. She went to get her things packed nonetheless. Just as she was heading into the palace Judy and Rose were walking out to get some supplies for the trip. A guard had dropped by earlier to hand over an ATM card with an outrageous credit limit. Outrageous in a good way just to point out. Rose and Judy spent the entire day together grabbing everything that Rose felt she would need for the trip. She had no idea how long the trip would last. It was better to be overpacked than to be found wanting. They however managed to fit everything into one piece of luggage. It consisted of clothes, shoes, and a couple of snacks and food items that would last Rose throughout

Everyone had gathered because the Alpha had arrived, and even though he had yet to explain the whereabouts of the groups he had taken to battle, they still welcomed him. Word had spread that he had summoned everyone, and they had appeared like ants, eager to know the outcome. Some of them had already packed up their bags. It was in their pouches, but it was also lined up on their beds. They wanted to be the first to move into Bittercullen, just to see how it felt to trample another man's territory. Then there were still the good ones who didn't come to cheer. The ones who wanted to protest about the way things were treated but didn't have enough courage to carry out the task. If the Alpha heard a single word of complaint, it wasn't news that he would not take it kindly. Then there was Rose. Waking up to this was the strangest feeling ever. She drew the knife on one fast love arm, and he gasped. “You’re lucky my daughter seems to find something in you.” He kept checking his name. And when he had concluded that it was still whole, he breathed a sigh of relief. “Thank you for sparing my life,” he said, leaning against the pile once again. “I shouldn’t have. Now I’m regretting why I didn’t, now that it’s too late. With the way you ruined my life, who wouldn’t if the same thing was done to them?” “I regret it as well. I regret leaving you like that because now I know how it feels to have someone so close betray you like that. I had the self-reflection I needed, and I’m here to say I’m sorry.” It felt great h

Chapter 110Vanessa’s breath came in sharp, ragged bursts as she stepped onto the battlefield. The air reeked of scorched earth and blood and was filled with something fouler, something *alive*. Magic. Wild and hungry. Her heart hammered against her ribs, a drumbeat of fury and fear. She’d felt it was the moment Rose lost control. That shockwave of power, tearing through the night like a scream. It had iced her veins, screaming one truth: *Too late, too late, too late—* And now, as the chaos unfolded before her, her worst nightmare took shape. Rose hung limp over Reed’s shoulder, her hair a tangled curtain, her body too still. Vanessa’s chest caved in. *No. Not her. Not my girl.* Rage erupted inside her, white-hot and vicious. It begged for violence, for teeth and blood and fire. But she choked it down. This wasn’t the time for fury. This was the time for precision. One misstep, one reckless move, and her daughter was gone. Her eyes locked onto Reed. He stood there, smug, *v

This was a reminder of what he had been fighting for. She was worth it. She was worth every bruise, every scar, every drop he had spilled in the war. He would do it all over again for her and only her. “Is this because I talked about your father?” “Don't do this, Reed! She said no!” Grim said, leaning forward. He was trying to avoid the dark side of her coming to the fore. “Stay out of this, Grim. She is just being stubborn and needs to be reminded of what happens to people who think they can mess with me and get off free.” He slowed his tone, focusing his gaze on Rose alone. “I absorbed their necks right in front of their daughter. I ripped their hearts out.” Rose was fighting hard, but the image of her father’s face, begging in his last moments, wouldn't stop popping up in her min

Chapter 108Rose sat on the porch stairs, gazing into the distance. She could see it. The flames rising into the sky, the screams for help. Yes, the scent of blood had gotten to her as well. She could thank her hidden vampire sense of smell for that. It was just her and Vanessa at home. She had been sensing something was coming. Rose was waiting for her. She wanted to be the first to get the news of Judith’s return. Why hadn’t she snuck out yet? She was afraid of getting caught. It was an easy path to take back to the palace. But what could she do if she got there, huh? Werewolves now hated her. If she showed up, it would mean no surprise that they would either tear her to death or put the blame for what they were facing on her. To avoid that, she had stayed put. This was not a time for her tricks. The war was serious. Her mind kept wondering if Grim was still alive. Was he safe? The place she had seen him seated looked familiar to her. It was in Noetvelle, and that me

If not for the sorceress keeping him in check nothing would have stopped him from reaching out his hand and blocking both of its eyes. it might not have been successful but at least they would have tried. He had heard the stories about how Reed had treated Rose, how he had tortured our father and chased her from the pack. On top of that he had the guts to call her his wife?“I have no idea who you are talking about,”* Grim replied, picking up a piece from the floor. “Oh, man. I love that vase,” he said, running his hands along the vase. “You’re going to have to pay for that.” He was stalling. The sound of the metal gates falling to the floor as they heralded the enemy. The sky over Nostville burned red with fire and chaos. Smoke billowed from the rooftops, filling the air with the acrid scent of destruction. It stretched as far as the horizon, and by the time Tom and his people arrived, no stone had been left unturned. Everywhere was hit. Every crevice was blown right open. Screams cut through the darkness—desperate cries of men, women, and children who ran blindly, their eyes wide with terror. The once-proud streets of the coven had become a battlefield, littered with bodies—some writhing in pain, others eerily still. Yes. Clearly, a spell was put on everyone. Shadows mo

But he was tired of fighting for a group of people who didn't give a damn about him.“Come on, Grim. As far as everyone else was concerned, their eyes were wide open, absorbing the gates in wait of the approaching battalion. Everyone was indoors. Rocking chairs sat alone, unoccupied, swinging with every tug from the violent wind. Even the windows remained still. For a community of people who were always fetching for gossip, everyone seemed settled in the inner parts of their households. It was better not to be aware of what was going on than to afford to be the first one that suffer the massacre that was brewing in the air. Their homes still stood the chance of getting attacked, but at least it was the safest they could be. Meanwhile, Reed was ever so comfortable in his seat.
