Chapter 19

Grim had come out to the courtyard to catch some fresh air. Last night he had been so bent up that he had to hold himself from causing any harm to Feria.

She had walked into the room with a fit of anger. Meanwhile, Grim, who had just come back home from a patrol along the border, had hoped to catch a little rest. But she had to interrupt his rest sharply.

Grim had spun to his side ready to rip apart whoever it was. It wasn't until he noticed it was Feria that his features softened into a less aggressive state.

“It's time to get rid of that new girl. Everything about her spells evil. First, she comes in here and disrespects you and now she is trying to take you away from me. I don't like what is going on here.”

“Can you stop nagging for once? Is it until I tear apart one of your limbs before you learn a lesson?”

Feria rolled her eyes. “That's not even the reason I came here. Get up from your slumber, we need to talk. It is important.”

“Can't whatever y

Chapter 20That was a question Grim didn't know the answer to. It was a yes or no question but nothing about that question was simple. “I can't answer that question right now. You know that we have a lot on our hands. The pack desperately needs us right now and I can't let something as flimsy as marriage keep us distracted.” “Stop beating around the bush, My Lord. That's what you've been saying anytime I bring this topic up. It's always one excuse or the other.” Grim looked away. Of course, he was going to keep coming up with excuses. Maybe because he was never truly ready for marriage. At least he didn't see himself that way. “It was never a matter of time, okay. It's a matter of being ready all round. I'm not ready for the whole commitment just yet.” That sounded like another excuse but really that's just the truth. It was one thing to walk down the aisle or whatever the case may be. But it was another thing to live with the same person forever.“What's there to be proposed f

Chapter 21 Grim was on his way to see Dale when he saw Feria approaching. He kept on walking, neglecting her. She had to run down to catch up with him. The padlock holding her lips shut broke as soon as she got to him. “Lord Grim. What is the news I'm hearing of you going on a trip?” She asked. Suddenly pleasantries mattered to Grim. “Is that how you're supposed to greet your leader when you see him?” Even in her anger, Feria bowed. She kept both eyes open in case Grim wanted to use that opportunity to flee. “Now that I have greeted you, can we get back to the reason that I'm here? I have just been told that you're taking Rose on a trip to see Vanessa.” “Where did you hear the news from?” Grim asked, annoyed. He couldn't believe that Rose couldn't keep her mouth shut. He had wanted the trip to be discreet. He wanted to slip out without being noticed. His planned company was just Dale and Rose. “Who other than the woman you're trying to elope with?” Grim sneered. “Elope with?”

Chapter 22Grim wanted to discuss the details of the trip and the strategy with which he would use to pull Vanessa out of whatever rabbit hole she was lodged in. Meanwhile, Feria stormed out of the courtyard. She was happy to be brought along but didn't know why he was punishing her by banning her from bringing along a handmaid. She went to get her things packed nonetheless. Just as she was heading into the palace Judy and Rose were walking out to get some supplies for the trip. A guard had dropped by earlier to hand over an ATM card with an outrageous credit limit. Outrageous in a good way just to point out. Rose and Judy spent the entire day together grabbing everything that Rose felt she would need for the trip. She had no idea how long the trip would last. It was better to be overpacked than to be found wanting. They however managed to fit everything into one piece of luggage. It consisted of clothes, shoes, and a couple of snacks and food items that would last Rose throughout

Chapter 23The tension in the truck would give any blade a hard time to cut through. Everyone was silent but still, the unspoken words were deafening. Everyone was battling with their inner thoughts and battles. Feria was stealing gazes once in a while at Rose. It was taking every fiber in her being to stop herself from stretching out and burying her fangs in the latter's neck. Why the hate? There were a lot of reasons why she was upset. Feria usually wanted the front seat for the ride. She had hopped into the truck with the hopes that Grim would be the one driving. But she was disappointed when it was Dale who had hopped into the driver's seat. Dale was pissed that he was the designated driver. He had expected his younger brother to take the wheel. He wanted to protest, but he already knew what Grim's response was going to be. “I am the ruler and I'm ahead of you. When I give you an instruction, I expect you to obey.” Not ready to be embarrassed in front of the others he had q

Chapter 24Grim has spent the majority of the trip watching Rose sleep. As fate would have it, the woman drifted to him, putting her head on his shoulder. She looked so innocent in her slumber. It came as a surprise to see her in such a calm state. For a moment he was beginning to doubt his plans for her were the right thing. They had only spent the past hour with each other and he was already rethinking his actions. But when he remembered what was at stake here, he snapped out of his delusion. Meanwhile, Rose couldn't contain her excitement. She was finally going to see her mother. She turned to hug Grim out of excitement but held herself back. Everyone stepped out of the truck. But Rose delayed a bit. She didn't have to worry about her luggage, Judy had already gone to get it. She was more bothered about the environment they had just arrived in. She had expected to be taken to some beautiful vampire pack that was crawling with people and beautiful scenery. Instead, she saw h

Chapter 25Grim was conversing about something random with Dale when he saw Rose approaching. He knew a time like this would come so he prepared himself for this conversation. “Where are we, Lord Grim?” She asked, getting in front of Grim to block his path. “For the tenth time, it's ‘My Lord' to you,” Grim scolded. “Please answer the question. I was hoping to see my mother. I have no plans to fight a war.”“You're not here for that. These are the men that are going to help us find your mother.” “You said that she was going on a courtesy visit. What do you mean by they're here to find her? Is there a chance that she is lost or is in trouble?” “She didn't reply to the messages we sent out to her. This is the only way that we can find out what happened to her. Rose walked towards the poster. Right then a pair of telescopes would be highly appreciated but unlucky for her they are not lying around anywhere. She looked around. No long rods were lying around. The only thing that would give her a clear view would be climbing onto one of the buildings, especially the one that overlooked the pole directly. A strong wind swept by brewing up dust and dirt. Chapter 34It still felt like a dream hearing Grim speak the truth. She would never have taken him to stoop so low to not only say the truth but also apologize for what he did. “He went on his knees and begged for your forgiveness?” Judy repeated just to be sure she heard right. Could you blame Rose for spicing the details? She may have exaggerated some of the details of how it had happened but now that she saw Judy's reaction it was worth it. By now they had returned to Nostville. Lord Grim had specially put Rose in charge of taking care of him. That was the only way he could think of getting her to spend more time with him on the ride back home. As you would expect, Feria wanted to skin Rose alive but the warning from Grim stopped her from making a move. All she could do was stare with evil eyes and keep making plans to finally make Rose flee. “I was just as shocked as you are. I was expecting him to leap and tear me to pieces but instead, he was asking for my forgiveness,” sh

But Judy wasn't giving up on her anytime soon. “I know you're scared, but it's fine.” Her next words were to be for Rose to ‘trust her’ but she knew better than to request for her trust after the way things had ended the last time. “But Lord Grim is personally requesting to see you.” Rose felt like she was in trouble. Maybe he wanted to punish me for walking away from him earlier, she thought to herself. ”Don't worry I'll be by your side this time. I'm not going to let anything happen to you,” Judy assured.Rose mustered the courage to follow Judy into the chambers where Lord Grim was being kept. All eyes were on her when she walked in and the different gazes were for different reasons. If looks could kill, Feria's eyes would have turned Rose into dinner as soon as she walked in. She held onto Grim closely as if just Rose's presence was enough to capture her fiance's heart.Dale didn't bother to give her more th

Chapter 32Grim had felt his world turn blank. He would have screamed for help or at least tried to convince Rose to stay but he had lost his voice. He didn't blame her. He had treated her worse and if she saw this as payback then that was fine. His last wish was for her to at least believe his words because they were the truth. Then she came back. When he thought all hope was gone she came back and took him up. She had risked getting spotted by any vampire and getting hurt. That sacrifice from her meant a lot to him. Literally, he blacked out from the pain before they could get to the shrine. The healer walked out when she heard the commotion outside. She was an elderly woman with her silk white hair fixated with ornaments of sorcery. Bracelets and rings of different shapes and sizes adorned her hand. She was clad in a robe that showered down to her feet. She walked down and collected Grim from Rose. “Thank you for bringing him,” the healer appreciated. “Wait here, I'll take him

Chapter 31Rose jumped out of the bed she had been placed in and raced to a corner of the room raising both hands in surrender. “Please, don't kill me, please. I'll do everything else you want but please don't kill me,” she begged. There was no escaping this time. Grim looked at her with concern. It was kind of hilarious that the woman who had been making fun of him would be so terrified of him. Meanwhile Rose saw death flash before her eyes. This is not being said metaphorically, poetically, or in any other fancy way. Grim looked like death straight up to her. Only when her back was pinned to the back of the wall did she realize that her dizziness had set in. It came like a wave and she had to place one hand on the wall to avoid slumping from her weak knees. Her first instinct was to look for the best way of exiting the room. The door looked back at her seductively but she knew she wasn't getting to it before Grim, especially in her weakened state. The window was the worst optio

Chapter 30 Rose woke up to the sound of crackling fire and the distant sound of screeching owls. She held her head trying to battle her dizziness. She looked at her legs and all the wounds that she had sustained while running away were cleaned and healed. She turned to see Judy at the other end of the fire. The latter was watching the flames as she brandished a penknife on a rock. “Where the hell are we?” Rose asked, looking around. It felt like they had fallen into a hole.“We are in a cave I spotted on our way coming here. It should give us enough shelter for the time being until we can figure out what is going on.” But her words didn't bring Rose comfort. “What about the guards? Did we lose their trail?” “Yes, we lost them a long time ago. Judy grabbed a cup of freshly brewed tea and handed it over to Rose. “Take this, it should help with the headache.” Rose peered at the drink with a skeptical gaze. Just smiled. “Don't worry I will not try to drug you like you did to me. It

It was just a floor down but it looked like she was gazing down a steep bottomless hill. At the end of her view was a trashcan loaded with trash. “Please tell me we are not landing on those bags of trash,” Her wolf said. “We have no choice, Daisy. Either we get out of here now or risk being hanged in front of everyone.” That was the most gruesome death Rose could imagine. “Never!” Daisy rebuked. “Then brace yourself for impact. We are jumping out of here and we are jumping out of here now!” This time the banging on the door has increased. It was so intensified that Rose began to fear that the door would give way. She first dropped the satchel off watching it fall into the bags of trash. One of the trash bags expanded as soon as the satchel landed on the heap. Rose climbed on the window frame looking down at the incinerator hoping that she would make a safe

She was sure that she had applied the sleeping liquid to the food in enough amounts to knock everyone out. How then did Judy manage to escape being affected? “Nothing, Ma'am. I was just looking for you. When you didn't come back from dinner I was worried. I had just walked out of the room when I found you here.” Her words are calculated and she didn't want to give off her true intentions. Rose was baffled. She couldn't stop wondering if the other woman had seen her take out the poster from Dale's coat. If Judy was awake did that mean that she had noticed her walk into the room before?“Oh, I was just rounding off a few things before I came to rest.
