The faint sound of various life-supporting systems rang on as Amelia shifted around in her cabin. Her eyes stared at the ceiling for a moment before recognizing that the light was all too real; the overhead fluorescents in the kitchen poured down on her now as she glanced at the ceiling. For a minute she was temporarily perplexed as she struggled to grasp where she was and how she had gotten herself there. Memories, as in a torrent, flooded back to her and then she rose slowly. Amelia stepped out of the cabin, holding the tiny bag that she had casually tossed things in over the last couple of days—money that she had been able to save and a few of the belongings. The road was deserted. Amelia moved quickly, not walking in the middle of the road, staying near the woods, and hiding from anything that could see her as she traveled. She had learned all the paths but was unsure if the witch locator spell was working. When Amelia came close to the main road, she could hear someone moving towards her. She felt her heart surge up her esophagus as she crouched in behind a big tree and held her breath as the person drove away.
