THIRD PERSON POV:

Herald was in his study, looking over a lot of papers, ranging from the amenities the pack lacked to the bills and monthly pack budget. He had a lot of work to do, and he was lagging, but this wasn’t because he couldn’t do it; his spirit was down. Outside, he was the brave and ruthless Alpha king who ruled the Rune pack, but deep down, he was a man who had lost his family.

“This is all too much,” he said, pushing away the papers in front of him.

He took a deep breath, then he pulled open his drawer to take out a stamp, but he found a picture, which opened the floodgate of the brokenness his heart was trying to conceal. It was a picture of Bella, Evelyn, and him when Bella had just turned one. They all had a smile.

Taking out the picture, he placed it on his desk, then he ran his hands across it, shutting his eyes to that time. The smile on Evelyn’s face had been fake, and he hadn’t known she was suffering so much. He wished he could go back and undo whatever his moth

Bella’s POV:“Please do not abandon me, Dad!” My mother dragged me out of the house, and I cried out, attempting to reach my father. “I thought you loved me, and you promised I would not leave with her; please give me another chance.”“I am sorry, Bella, but I can’t. I love you so much, but that doesn’t change the fact that you are a murderer.”My father’s last words lingered in my mind for hours as Alpha Fredrick, the leader of the Frost Pack and my stepfather, drove my mother and me through the hills to their territory in the southern region of Moonfire.I never would have guessed that I would end my best friend’s life for a boy. But she betrayed me with the person I cared deeply about. Alpha Princesses and Beta’s in my pack found mates at sixteen, and I had turned sixteen a few months before and still had no mate. This is because I am a hybrid, half vampire, and half werewolf. My boyfriend, Sebastine, promised to mate with me when I turned seventeen without a mate, but my best frie

Bella:Ryder despised me and claimed that my mother was the reason his mother left, but that was none of my business. He never reacted negatively to my mother.“I am not afraid of you, Ryder,” I said, trying to stand my ground and ignoring my wolf, who could not stay in one place.“Looks like someone grew some balls over the years, and it is good to see that we can now play equally.” He said, glancing at the twins, who both smirked at me.My pussy muscles tightened as I stared into their gorgeous brown eyes. It was the mate effect, which made me feel both disgusted and horny.Kai and Finn circled around me,scrutinizing my attire. Finn grabbed my waist and pulled me to his chest, whispering in my ear.“Did you dress up for us?” I chuckled, slapping his hands away from my waist, and he pushed me toward Kai, who yanked away my daylight necklace from my neck.“Give it back!” I yelled, and he gave off a dark chuckle.“Make me,” he said, throwing it to Ryder, the tallest of them.Ryder did

Bella:It was the first day of school, and I tried not to let Ryder or the Lycanthal twins bother me. When I put on my uniform, I stood in front of the mirror to check myself. The skirt was a little tight, highlighting my curves.“Where are you going, dressed like that?” Ryder asked, and I looked in the mirror to see him standing behind me, his brow wrinkled.“School?” I raised an eyebrow. “What is the big deal?” “You are not my mother.”“Yes, babe, what is the big deal?” The blonde girl asked, grabbing his collar, but he drew her hands away.“You have been placed in my care, and you will not leave this dorm in something so short!” He stormed away angrily, leaving the blonde staring at me with squinted eyes. After that brief encounter with Ryder, I ignored him and wore my skirt out of the room to the dining hall, using the scroll as a guide. As I walked down the hall, people looked at me, murmured, and pointed to their screens. Some made hand job gestures with their hands, while other

Bella:The day of the mating ball had arrived, and the school was abuzz with a mix of nerves and excitement. I lay sprawled on my bed, music blasting through my headphones to drown out the rest of the world—particularly Ryder and Fae’s incessant make-out sessions on his bed.I wasn’t just battling the heartache of my mate being with someone else; I was also swamped with school work, having transferred mid-semester. To top it all off, the entire school despised me, so the ball was the last thing on my mind. When my aching heart stopped, I knew they had finished, so I took off my earpiece and got to my feet.I needed to get away to breathe, so I went to the fridge, grabbed a bottle of water, and Fae appeared, smug as ever.“You might want to start looking for another place,” she sneered. “After tonight, Ryder will officially be mine, and as the future Luna, I cannot have you around.”Her words stung, but I held back my response. “Thanks for not gracing the ball with your presence,” she

What if she dies, and we have to go our entire lives without a mate?” Kai said, pacing around the room, as Ryder and Finn looked at him. “We are horrible people, and we will live without mates. How will we carry out our duties if...?”“Kai, you are overreacting!” Ryder stated, and Kai paused to stare at him.“Overreacting?” He inquired in a raised tone. “Says the person who signed us up for this. It was your idea to bully her, and Finn and I agreed because we were supposed to be best friends; however, if she dies, we will throw away everything we have worked for, and...”“No one is dying, Kai,” Finn, who had been sitting calmly on a couch in the Alphas’ living

Bella:“Why didn’t you say something all this time?” Ryder asked in a loud voice, and I shrugged with a frown.“Are you going to yell at me for remaining silent after falling off a tall building because of you?” I asked, raising my brow.He was about to speak when the twins placed a hand on his shoulder and told him to calm down.I did not care because all I could think about was rejecting them, regardless of how many good things they did for me.“Look, Bella, we apologize for what we did and hope you can forgive us. I know it almost cost your life for us to apologize, and I sincerely hope we can move on,” Finn said, and I stared at him silently.Their words sound inferior to me because the last time Ryder attempted to apologize, he spilled the food, and they all mocked me. The thought of it caused untold pain in my heart, but I was not ready to talk about it.“Thank you for the gifts,” I managed to say, and everyone fell silent for a few moments.Someone knocked on the door, then ope

A part of me prayed they would reject me too, and the other part feared how much pain I would go through when they did.“What are you waiting for? Too chicken to reject me?” I questioned, trying to push them to their limit.Ryder was about to speak when Finn grabbed his hand and stood up.“We know better than to reject you back, Bella, and that is the only way the mate bond can be severed. Even though we are in pain,” he paused, grabbing his chest with a frown as he tried to maintain a firm tone, “We won’t reject you.”After he finished, there w

Bella:We went back to the apartment without Halle. She had asked Riley to go back with us, stating it was risky for him to drive back to the Dusk Pack, knowing that vampires lurked around the mountains on the deserted roads at night. When we asked where she was going, she gave us a warm smile, saying, “Adults worry about children, and not the other way around.”With that, she vanished.Soon, we made it to the parking lot of the apartment where Kai and Ryder were waiting for us. As soon as our cars came to a stop, they rushed toward us. We got down from the car, and then they rushed at me. Kai pulled me to himself first.“We had a feeling you were in danger, and I kept telling Ryder, but we shrugged it off, thinking Finn would call,” Kai said. I pressed my body harder into theirs.“What matters is that we are okay now,” I said to him, and then he kissed my cheek before pulling away from me.I looked at Ryder, whose face was drawn down.“I am not dead, Ryder,” I said to him, then he th

Bella: I was still in shock from the man’s words when Finn grabbed him by the collar, pounding his face multiple times. The rage embedded in Finn was enough to power an entire city when converted to watts. But I couldn’t let him kill this man. We needed information. I looked back at Halle and Hazel to see that both of them had gone into a state of unconsciousness. They sat in the circle, holding hands, and looking up into the skies, and their eyes had gone white, so we had only ourselves. “Finn, you will kill him! We need answers!” Riley yelled, grabbing Finn, who struggled hard to hit the man. “Good. Then he can join my mother!” Finn yelled, but Riley held onto him. I walked up to the man, then placed a foot on his chest, pinning him to the ground. “Why did you pull him away? He was only hurting himself, and I am enjoying it. My emotions are turned off, so I do not feel a thing,” the man said, and I pressed down harder on his chest, which made him chuckle. When he wouldn’t stop

I told them Halle didn’t want to go to Howlstone,” she explained to Riley and Halle as Riley drove to a random restaurant in town.Soon, they came to a halt and stepped out of the car. Then they made their way through the sliding doors of the restaurant. They chose a booth and made themselves comfortable. Then Hazel communicated the name of the restaurant to Bella and Finn. Luckily for them, Bella and Finn were close by, and soon they walked through the front door. The cozy atmosphere of the restaurant felt at odds with the tension that hung over them all. As they approached them, Hazel felt a bit of relief, which allowed her to soften he

THIRD PERSON POV:The early morning sun crept through the curtains, casting a soft glow across the room. Hazel stirred first from her slumber, her body aching as she shifted against the cold floor. A dull, throbbing headache pounded at her temples, and when she blinked her eyes open, the events of last night felt like a hazy blur.Next to her was Riley, who groaned as he slowly opened his eyes. His hand instinctively reached for his head, as if trying to push away the pain.“Ugh, what the hell happened?” Riley mumbled, squinting at the ceiling before glancing over at Hazel with confusion etched on his face. “Why are we on the floor?”Hazel pushed herself up, groaning as the ache in her muscles intensified. Her mind felt foggy. It was a jumbled mess of fragments of last night, but as soon as her eyes fell on her spell book, which was on the floor, she remembered the spell, and the shifting table, and the wind that took them out.Her voice faltered as everything pieced together. Then sh

The thoughts of what had happened earlier still swirled through her mind, and Riley’s comforting presence next to her did little to soothe the icy knot of fear and dread settling deep in her stomach. Something about the nightmare didn’t feel right—it felt far too vivid, and too real to be just a dream. Her parents’ faces and the accusations in their voices couldn’t be figments of her imagination, and the witch in her refused to let it go.“No,” she whispered in a shaky breath.Riley’s hand rubbed soothing circles on her back. “Hazel, it was just a nightmare. It’s okay—”He tried to convince her with a sleepy voice, but Hazel shook her head sharply, pushing the covers off her body as she swung her legs over the edge of the bed.“It wasn’t just a nightmare, Riley,” she said firmly, trying to steady her voice. Her parents had never come to her, and now that the
