Vincent Patrick Academy, Nick thought with a dark scowl, with a curse he pushed away from his desk and went to stand in front of the massive window overlooking the city of New York, at night the view would be breathtaking but Nick rarely ever had the time to appreciate it, his father often accused him for not having the eye or the patience to appreciate beauty but Nick had the eyes and patience what he didn't have was the understanding for it.
As he looked down at the busy streets and colorful shops, he couldn't help but think back to eight years ago, when all he had ever thought of was leaving the small sleepy town that seemed like a prison to him and a chance at a new life for his father. The days he had lived in lover's valley still had him clenching his fist. ''Lover's valley my ass'' There was nothing lovely about the town, there were only hateful and sad memories for him there. Highschool had been a nightmare, he could only get through it because of his father. His father was the only person that had accepted him the way he was when everyone pushed him away even his own mother hadn't wanted him, his father Ryan Stone was Nick's happy place but the people of lover's valley didn't spare him that small bit of happiness.Nick's mother had walked out of his and his father's life when Nick was only eight years old, he had cried and begged her not to leave but she left anyway screaming that she couldn't deal with a failure for a husband and a child who was nothing but a burden although Nick had been so young he didn't understand and all he had wanted was for his mother to stay. His father had told him that if he was a good boy his mother would let him come visit her so a young Nick so eager to please his mother had studied hard, never got in trouble, ate his vegetables and never stayed up late he had practically been the epitone of a perfect child and every christmas he would write his mother a letter telling her how he had won many awards and how well behaved he had been and then drag his laughing father to the post office and everytime the letter would be sent back to him unopened but that hadn't been enough to dampen his young spirit. He did that for ten years.
James stared at the minute of the meeting in his hands, this had to be the tenth time he had gone through it, he doesn't think his sanity could afford any more scolding from his boss. Nickolas Stone was all about perfection and organizing, he had the looks of a greek God, black raven hair and piercing green eyes that most times seems like it could see through a person, every fashion magazines dubbed him as prince charming only those who knew him knows that he was far from charming, sure he was a generous and fair boss but that was as far as nicities went for Nickolas Stone. People at the office nicknamed him 'stone heart' James doubted there was anything in the man's chest.`
''James'' Nick called out, startled, a bunch of papers fell out of the young secretary hands, Nick used to his secretary clumsiness rolled his eyes.
''Yes sir''.
''When is the meeting with Blake and Co?''.
''The people from the law firm?''.
"No James, the people from the chocolate factory" Nick retorted with a blank look.
"Oh I don't think you have any meetings scheduled with any chocolate_".
"For fuck's sake james!" Nick gawked at his secretary not sure if the boy was serious or just messing with him.
"I'm sorry sir, I'll find out right away...".
"Christ I swear I can feel myself getting dumber just by looking at you".
"I'm sorry sir, I'll try my best to look smart so you'll feel smart by looking at me".
"Oh my God".
"Should I email you the schedule of the meeting for Blake and Co?".
Nick stared at his secretary and wanted to bust into tears, when Mrs Asher got back from her honeymoon he would pay her a handsome fee and make her promise to never leave his side. James stared at his employer's back as he walked out of the conference room. He let out a breath of relief and bent to pick up the papers on the floor.
#########################################"That would be all ma'am, whenever you're ready just give me a call and I'll prepare the papers for you right away".
"Thanks Kimberly, you're a good kid".
"You don't have to thank me, I'm just doing my job". Kim stood up to walk the elderly woman out. "Have a nice day Mrs Smith".
Walking back to her desk she pressed the intercom. "Sarah I need a minute".
A few seconds later her secretary Sarah Baxton entered her office. "You called for me upholder of justice" Kim rolled her eyes at the statement.
"I need you to reschedule any meeting I have, move the important ones forward and postpone the other ones".
"Why, are you travelling?" Sarah asked, tapping on her tablet already making changes as instructed.
"Kinda. I won't be coming to work for a couple of days......I'm going home".
Surprised by her boss's words sarah paused to take a good at her employer. "Is everything okay?".
"Oh yeah just something I need to take care of".
"Okay then, when will that be?".
"Eighteenth of febuary till the twenty-second".
"Alright, I'll make some changes and get back to you, in the mean time you have a meeting with the crew in five".
"Okay, I'll head to the meeting room when I'm done here".
"Alright let's start" Kim said as soon as she took her seat in the meeting room. "Charlie do you have the file from Stone Corp?".
"Yeah, this is big Kim, if this goes well and we become their legal team then.....Wow".
"Cool your horses Charlie".
"I can't boss, this is huge for me, for us".
"I know that, which is why we can't mess this up, why do they want to change their legal team in the first place. We need to find that out so we don't make the same mistake, whatever that is".
"You're right" Britany said making everyone turn towards her, she had that arresting aura about her, she always seem to grab everyone's attention whenever she spoke which was why Kim hired her, that and the fact that she was a damned good lawyer.
Blake and Co was everything to kim, it had always been a dream of hers to be able to defend people and stand up for what was right. It had been hell opening a business of her own but it was worth it even though she had started alone. Immediately after college she had used up every single penny she could raise to buy a building, the economy wasn't exactly friendly to a fresh out of college dewy eyed girl looking to open her own business. Kim had graduated top of her class, which had of course opened up a few doors for her but she had refused to work under anyone, the part-time jobs eventually paid off, plus her parents worried about her, gave her more money than she actually needed. She had won the very first case she took on then, her parents had been overwhelmed with joy and she had even cried right along with her client, ever since she had always won every case she fought, she called the first win luck but the rest had been solely based on her hardwork and studying and she was proud of herself. The media had called her 'The upholder of justice' she was vicious and merciless in the courtroom and now she had six employees who were just as hardworking.
"I'll be absent for a couple of days so we need to finish up this deal with Stone Corp and Charlie I need you to draw up a contract, I'll brief you on the contents later. Zoey how's the boyfriend case going?".
"Miss Olivia still doesn't want to press charges agaisnt her boyfriend, I've tried everything I can to convince her. She believes he's going to change and her mother wouldn't stop calling".
"I know, I had to send the poor woman away again with a promise to press charges against him, I'm running out of excuses and legal soothing words".
"We can only do so much, we can't force her that would be against her rights".
"Send me her details, I'll speak to her hopefully she will still be alive by the time I get to her".
I'll do that, I just don't get why she's still with him, he abuses her and treats her like a slave". Zoey shook her head with her a sigh."What about you Xander? How's the couple's case coming along?"."Crazy. The man's wife is absolutely nuts, you seriously have no idea how much she's demanding for alimony, the lady is after his life I tell you. For now I'm trying to convince them to reconsider or at least come to a decision where the man doesn't end up living on the streets"."That's good, I think you should do more digging though the woman may be up to something. It's not the first time a woman has tried to rob her husband in the guise of divorce. How many kids?"."Two"."Uhmmm, Ma'am you still have that interview" Sarah interrupted with a frown. "It's in two hours so they need you to come in now to go through the script"."I thought that was supposed to be next month"."No that's a different one, and you already rejected t
"I don't think that's what you're supposed to say to someone you almost killed".Taken aback Kim stared at the man like he had sprouted a second head. "Almost killed?" She moved closer towards him and tried to pull the hood off his head, he avoided her hand by sidestepping her."What do you think you're doing?" He snapped."Trying to see if the fall had somehow affected your head because clearly you're out of your mind. Almost killed? Well I wouldn't have 'almost killed you' if you hadn't tried to cross the road with your eyes closed or perhaps you thought you were invincible right"."I think it's you who has your eyes closed because if you didn't, you'd see that the traffic light had a big red glowing light which means stop" Frustrated and feeling guilty Kim gave the man a dark look, although it was her fault but he was making it worse by refusing to go to the hospital and arguing with her instead. "I advice you to take the driver's test again because obviou
James rushed forward and pushed the double doors open with shaky hands, Nick noticed and heaved a frustrated sigh and proceeded to enter the room. There were seven people inside the conference room, that including people from Blake and Co, Donnie and a few employees from Stone Corp who all stood up as soon as Nick entered. "As you were" He said taking a seat at the end of the table.Kim stared at the man with wide eyes and thought he must be a fallen angel. Nickolas Stone was as the paper described him except the photos of him didn't do his looks any justice though, the man was a greek God come to life. His raven black hair was glossy and trimmed to perfection, it had a messy look about it that made it seem like he had been running his fingers through it, his black suit hugged his figure so well his tailor must have been proud to see it on him. He should be well over six feet Kim thought because he seemed to tower over everyone in the room his bright green eyes were the show s
"No. I mean yes...." Oh God how would she explain to them, shooting Nick a glare did he seriously have to bring the accident up in front of other people, couldn't he have approached her like a normal person and settled it amicably. She would have taken responsibility."Nick what the hell are you talking about?" Said Donnie with a raised eyebrow."Well she did run me over with her car three days ago, Donnie you asked me how I got this, didn't you" Nick said pointing at the bandaid above his eyebrow.Oh boy! It really was the nut job in the grey hoodie she thought. "I think there's been a misunderstanding, why don't we allow Kim to explain herself" Tom said eyeing her, He had always been the serious one among her employees, if you had a problem Tom would find a logical explanation and solution for it, if he wasn't a lawyer he would have been a detective.Feeling stuck and frustrated Kim let out a nervous laugh, so she was the culprit who should be sued, tried a
"Lover" She finished for him embarrassing him even more, since when did he feel embarrassed by trivial things like this."Yeah and now she won't go away. She follows me everywhere, I was trying to escape her the day you ran me over" He said enjoying the way she frowned when he mentioned the accident."Have you tried getting a restraining order?"."Of course. It just never seems to stop her" She stayed silent for a couple of minutes and Nick was almost convinced she was mad at him until a slow smile crossed her lips and for a second he could only stare, just stare and appreciate the sight it was indeed a lovely one."Tell you what, you give me her details and I'll take care of it on one condition".So that was what the smile was about, he couldn't resist his own lips tugged in a slow smile he would indulge her. "Name your price"."You forgive me for running you over and we never speak of the incident again" Surprised he could only stare at her in f
"What? It's true, remember the last time you were supposed to come to Slade's wedding, you totally bailed out on us" Sam said refering to her second older brother Slade, Sam was the only girl with three older brothers, Stanley, Slade and Stephan who all took turns watching over their little sister, Sam only found their overprotectiveness embarrassing. "Your excuse was so lame I almost weeped"."I'm serious I was really sick" During Slade's wedding three years ago Kim had promised to go if only for his wedding, she hadn't made it as far as her livingroom, she had stayed up all night thinking about the possibility of running into her ex and her ex best friend that she had tired herself out and had woken up with a monster headache even still she had managed to shower and drag her suitcase to the living where she passed out only to wake up almost two days later with a million missed calls from her parents and Sam, no matter how much she had tried to tell them she was sick they nev
"This sure brings back memories" Kim said and saw her mother's smile fall, then she added. "Happy ones mom. How's the clinic?" Her mother was the town's doctor, the lower part of their house had been transformed into a clinic and she had a couple of the town's people volunterring or working part-time at the clinic Kim herself had helped deliver her own fair share of babies when she in highschool, she had loved every single part of it the joy she got in being able to help bring a new life into the world was phenomenal."Same old, same old" She replied with a dismissive wave of her hand."Well would you look at that" Kim said as she studied her room painted in pink and blue her two favorite colors. "Yep that me" Laughing Kim pulled him in for a quick hug he pulled her back to stare at her. "Wow, you're still as pretty as ever I bet someone's snagged you for himself"."Nope no one's snagged this pretty flower".Tommy laughed revealing rows of perfectly white teeth. "Well then the city boys must be blind"."Yeah they must be".Tommy looked behind Kim with a pained look on his face. "Looks like words gone around that you're here" He said making Kim grimace he gave her shoulder a gentle squeez. "It's nice to see you again Blake"."Leaving me to my fate now are you?"His reply was a quick wave, she watched as he walked away from her in long strides. Kim sucked in a deep breath, plastered a smile on her face and prepared to play the 'Oh my god is that really you' game.Kim laughed at what Susan had said, another one of her past friends that she had forgotten about since she left eight years ago. They were so happy to see her and they a
Sometimes when the forces of nature decides to mess with you, they are always cruel. Obviously something or someone was trying to fuck with her if not she wouldn't have to go through this, it was absolutely unfair, Kim thought. Kim stared at her best friend and ex boyfriend and felt the old anger resurface and along with it the hurt she had felt years ago. Jane looked stunning as she always had dressed in a tight black knee length dress that hugged her tiny frame she still had the deceitful innocent face, a face that had fooled Kim and so many other people. Jane held lane's arm hanging onto him like he was going to disappear any minute which made Kim roll her eyes. Staring at Lane Kim shook her head in disbelief, she had been in love with him once upon a time or at least she had thought she was. Lane was good looking, he looked like the kind of person that would play the 'prince charming' role to perfection with the blonde hair and blue eyes. Dres
Kim wiped her palm on her thigh suddenly feeling nervous and self conscious, her heart tudded a little too loudly for her liking. She thought of hiding but felt it was useless since he had seen her and it would arose more questions from her friends, and if she acted like she didn't know him that would even be worse so she stood where she was and watched as he walked towards her in long commanding strides.Nick stopped a few inches from Kim and just stared at her for a couple of seconds ignoring everything and everyone around them, she was so breathtaking in the long red gown that hugged her figure like a lover that he was content to just look at her all night long and the slit by the side of the dress was messing with his head."Good evening ladies" He said looking at the women who stared at him with a fond smile which he returned not that he knew who they were anyway. "Miss Blake" Nick said nodding at her and wishing she would stop looking at him like he had sprou
