Signing The Papers

"Don't tell me you didn't know that? Didn't you get the symptoms?" Louisa asked and Alexa shook her head slowly, not being able to comprehend the words that flowed out of her mother's mouth.

She seemed to forget all her pains and concentrated on this new revelation. It was only until five months ago that she stopped taking contraceptives if she and Liam had sex. When they first got married, they had agreed to not have a child too early, until they were ready.

But two years later, Liam still insisted she had to take them. She pretended like she did, but then she didn't take any, instead she flushed them all down the drain without Liam noticing anything.

And now...

She was pregnant?

"Can I see the test results mom?" She asked hurriedly.

Louisa's face lit up in a smile as she handed over the test results to Alexa, which she opened and read hurriedly. The papers fell down from her hands as she got to the middle and she stared at her mother in shock.

"Two?" She muttered and Louisa nodded excitedly.

"You are with twins, child." She said.

Alexa gasped as tears rushed out of her eyes and Louisa gasped in shock.

"Alexa, why are you crying?" She asked.

"Mom, I'm pregnant." Alexa muttered.

"That's a thing of joy, baby." Louisa replied and Alexa nodded her head slowly.

"It is. I can't believe I'll be having my own babies soon." She muttered in between tears.

"I know, right?" Louisa smiled.

"Now clean off your tears, while I quickly give a call to your in-laws." She said.

"What? No way, mom." Alexa gasped and Louisa stopped.

"Why not?"

"There's no way I'm letting Liam father my children. I'm not going to let him do that."

"But Alexa, he has a right to know."

"He doesn't. I've made up mind to divorce him and nothing is going to change that. Please support me in this. Do you want a cheating father to train these children?" Alexa asked pleadingly.

"Alexa, think about your unborn children. How would they feel without having a father?" Her mother asked.

"I'm going to make sure they feel nothing. I'll take care of them. The point is Liam must not know anything about this, not even his parents. This is our little secret." Alexandra stated and Louisa sighed, staring at her daughter in disbelieve.

"Okay, that's fine. I won't tell him." Louisa said.

"Thank you mom." Alexa smiled a bit. Though she felt greatly hurt by Liam, it seemed God was still on her side, giving her a light of hope, something she could live for.

Something she had to protect...her unborn children and she was going to do just that, without Liam, without anyone.

Alexandra sighed as she dragged her set of boxes down one after the other. She didn't take anything she didn't remember buying with her own money. Not even the clothes she got as a gift from Liam, not even her wedding ring.

She gave the house a look as she walked to the table and read the divorce papers once again. Then she signed her name boldly.

"Goodbye, Liam." She muttered as she walked out. She didn't take her car, instead she called a cab which took her to her mother's house immediately. She was going to fly out the next day, to start afresh. Her new beginning with her two little babies.

In the can, she texted Eugene a message, which read; I've signed the documents, you can come get the papers.

Short and simple. She removed her sim card after that and threw it outside the window. It immediately got smashed by another car passing by.

Looking at the serene environment where she had spent almost three years of her life, Alexandra had the urge to cry again. She felt bad, not for Liam. But for her children who would not have a father and her parents in law who had no idea she and their son just divorced.

Liam's mother adored Alexandra so much, though his father didn't particularly like her, seeing she didn't come from a conglomerate family like theirs. But after getting married to Liam at all costs, he begun to refer to her as his daughter. He once stated that he always wanted a female child and since his wife didn't birth that, he could as well refer to Alexa as his daughter.

She had betrayed them this way, by abandoning them and leaving without their knowledge. But she was sure they would get over it. Especially Liam's father, he would rant and say to Liam, I knew that girl wasn't good enough. Alexa laughed inwardly.

She understood the man quite well, he would pretend to be strong headed outside when actually he was soft hearted. She knew he would feel hurt by what she did but he would mask it. Liam's mother on the other hand would try so hard to find her and find out what exactly happened, then try to beg her to return but she had made up her mind, to end all connections with them. It was the best decision for her and her kids.

*~*~*~

"Boss, your wife sent a message saying she has signed the papers." Eugene said the moment he got the message.

"She signed it?" Liam said unbelievably.

"Yes sir." Replied Eugene.

Liam went silent for a moment, wondering if he should be happy or sad that she signed the papers. Strangely he felt something else inside him and he didn't understand what it was.

"Okay, Eugene. Give her a call and tell her you'll be there to pick it up." He said with a sigh. Eugene nodded and clicked on her number, calling her immediately.

"Boss, her number is unreachable." He said.

"What?" Liam muttered and picked his own phone, calling her number.

It said the same thing.

Within some minutes, Liam was in his car, driving home in fast speed, against all safety rules.

"Alexa!!" He called as he got home, rushing into the house. The first thing he saw was the divorce papers, signed. She really sighed them.

He sighed as he dropped the papers and rushed upstairs, going into their room. It was almost empty, judging from the wardrobe and how everything looked. Most of her things were no longer in the room and going closer to the bed, he saw the wedding ring on it. Picking his phone, he called Eugene.

"Find out where she went."
