As if my world had stopped swirling for a second upon listening to Damon's remarks. My brows furrowed as my hands trembled with the fear that my father had done horrible things in the past.

But still… I need to defend my father, who gave life to me.

“Was it really him? The person who's sitting in that driver's seat, hitting Cassie in the middle of the road and running away as if he had seen a ghost? I wet my dry throat as his jaw clenched. “Dad never drives his car, especially at night,” I said with a shaky breath, trying to control my emotions. Not in front of him.

Dad always shut his eyes while silently taking a nap in the back seat for a quick rest whenever he came home late at night. So, it's possible he didn't know.
