Chapter 5

Rachelle's mind raced with different ways to convince him to accept her proposal. Rejection wasn't an option. Though he seemed like a well reserved and secretive man,she couldn't just assume Morgen and her mother wouldn't find out about her actions.

She inhaled deeply, maintaining eye contact "compared to my sister,you will definitely enjoy my company and full support"

His tensed expression relaxed "you're right. Morgen is quite spoilt and clingy,a polar opposite to my preference"

Rachelle leaned forward with a knowing smile "don't you think this is an opportunity to get her of your tail? Like I said earlier,I won't be a burden to you,I can handle myself"

Remeo stared intently at her,eager to decipher the motive behind her abrupt actions. The thrill in his heart increased as he marveled at her unwavering confidence. He scoffed, believing it was an opportunity to get rid of a growing leech.

He cleared his throat,his lips curved in a smirk "considering the benefits I'm likely to obtain,I will accept your proposal"

"What?" Rachelle was taken aback by his quick response. Her least expectation was for him to ask for time to reflect on it but he had given a quick and positive answer which gave her the chills. But now wasn't the time to think about it. It was definitely an answer to rejoice over.

"I'm quite surprised. I actually thought you might want to wait a bit more before giving a response" Rachelle expressed her thoughts,an amused smile plastered on her face

"I'm a business man. I don't waste time when it comes to beneficial and interesting cooperations like this" Romeo replied,his eyes full of pride.

"That's understandable!" Rachelle uttered,her voice firm and expectant "so,when do you plan to break the news to them?"

Remeo raised an eyebrow,his amusement evident "Not so fast, Rachelle. First,we need to sign an agreement to avoid problems in the future. I'm quite sure you thought of that"

"No,I didn't" Rachelle muttered,her eyes apologetic "It never crossed my mind"

"If I may ask,what is your motive behind all of these?" He questioned,his words dripping with curiousity. "Laura and Morgen are both families"

Rachelle weighed the situation properly before answering with hesitation "Let's just say I'm paying back old time grudges"

Remeo only smiled in response,his eyes studying her as he swerved his chair slightly "I'll inform Morgen about the cancellation of our engagement. You have nothing to worry about" he assured which made Rachelle grateful he didn't pry further.

"When do you plan on doing that?" She probed further

"Tomorrow morning" he declared

After finalizing the agreement, Rachelle's heart leaped for joy,excited about the latest development which was working in her favour. She couldn't wait to see how Morgen will take the heart breaking news. Her angry and disappointed face would undoubtedly be a priceless sight.

She hailed a taxi and gave the address grinning widely. The taxi stopped in front of her mother's house. Majestically,she alighted,paid the driver and sauntered into the building.

Morgen and Laura were sitted in the living room. She scoffed, ignoring their suspicious gaze and trotted up the stairs when she heard her name.

"Rachelle,have you apologized to Dominion?" Laura asked,her voice low and threatening "I haven't gotten a call from him yet"

"I thought I made myself clear enough to make you understand that I won't be marrying him anymore" Rachelle glanced aggressively at the duo. "If you're that interested in building ties with him,you can permit Morgen to marry him"

"What? That's impossible!" Morgen jumped on her feet,eager to claw off the smile on her sister's face. "Everyone knows I'm engaged to Romeo. You're just so ungrateful"

"Oh! Is that so?" Rachelle arched an eyebrow,her voice laced with sarcasm "and here I thought you both were just having a fling"

Laura's anger was tipped up. She marched straight to Rachelle and attempted to hit her but this time,she managed to dodge it.

"I didn't say anything wrong. I only stated the obvious" Rachelle defended herself,her voice soft yet gloating.

Laura glared at her with intense hatred "how dare you speak to your sister like that? Unlike you,she knows what's best for the family. She's engaged to Romeo Barrington. Get that into your thick skull!"

Rachelle knew she had to leave her mother to avoid any physical attacks but another part of her wanted to spite them more,to give them a hint of the pending disappointing news that was about to befall them.

She glanced at Morgen who had fake tears bubbled up in her eyes "I hope he loves you the same way you love him. Heartbreak is not a good experience. Trust me, I've been there before"

"Don't say that! Of course he loves me" Morgen pouted, infuriated by her sister's mocking tone "I know he's busy most times but he still finds time to spend with me"

"Why does it sound like you're trying to convince yourself?" Rachelle held her chin feigning concern. "I hate it when my fellow woman goes through the same pain I went through. You should be careful!"

After saying those words,she literally ran upstairs to her room to avoid her mother's yelling and Morgen's wails and sobs. There's was no need having dinner with them,so she decided to go to bed with her heart beating with excitement.

THE NEXT DAY

Rachelle woke up early and freshened up before going downstairs for breakfast. She glanced at the wall clock and suddenly remembered she had forgotten to ask Romeo what time exactly he would be coming. He was a busy man who took time as a precious asset.

Her gaze rested on Laura who ignored her presence as usual. The only thing different was Morgen's decision to act like her mother. She was always ready to throw one question or the other to express her fake concern.

Rachelle was obviously in a good mood and decided to do the unusual "good morning mum,sis. Hope you both had a wonderful night rest?"

Immediately, Laura's spoon accidentally dropped from her hands while Morgen's mouth was wide agape. They both stared at her in bewilderment but she ignored them and sat down to savour her breakfast.

"Ma,Mr. Barrington is here" one of the maids announced few minutes later.

"What! He never informed us of his visit" Laura exclaimed,her face etched with worry. Morgen on the other hand,was on cloud nine. She stood up as soon as she sighted Romeo walking into the house.

"Romeo" she ran to hug him but to the uttermost surprise of everybody,he ignored her and walked straight to Laura who was flabbergasted by the shocking scene.

Remeo threw a quick glance at Rachelle who silently acknowledged his presence before shifting his gaze back to Laura.

"I came here to discuss something important with you" he declared

"O.. okay. We could sit and discuss then" Laura quickly ushered him to the couch and shouted at the maid to get him some refreshment.

"I'm fine. You didn't have to" Romeo rejected her kind gesture coldly.

Meanwhile,Morgen was still rooted to her spot trying to convince herself that she must have done something to make him annoyed with her. She summoned up courage and walked up to him.

"Romeo darling,did I do something wrong?" His hard glared stopped her from sitting next to him

Laura swallowed hard and sat right in front of him, hoping he was just in a bad mood

"I'm all ears,Mr. Barrington" she muttered,her voice barely above a whisper

Romeo made himself comfortable on the sofa like the business lord that he was and smirked. "Without mincing words, I'm breaking off my engagement with Morgen"
