I was about to leave the police station, feeling overwhelmed and frustrated. Kenolly's refusal to speak had left me seething with anger. I couldn't believe he was being backed up by someone, though I wondered who. I needed to take a break, from the asshole and his smirk.

As I reached the door, I saw a familiar face walking in. It was Jill, Linda's mother. My ex-girlfriend's mother. I hadn't seen her in months, not since the trial.
