“How?” He asked. His eyes narrowing in on her.
“She was shot in her leg and her stomach. I did what I could. Security found her driver and he helped us get out of there undetected.” She took a deep breath. She felt like she had said too much.
“Ah,yes. A Carlos Mendoza.” The detective said, skimming through some notes on a yellow notepad that sat in front of him.
“Yes. That's him.” She agreed.
“So, what next?” He asked, after jotting some things down on his notepad.
“We made it to the hospital. Mr. Mendoza gave me his jacket. He left. We left from there. I no longer felt safe in this area.” She said.

Why did she pass out? She hadn't felt like she was exhausted. She had tried to get back into the normal groove of her old life. It felt like just maybe her old life no longer suited her. She changed into the white cotton gown and got back in the bed. She felt fine at the moment. Rosa had left and she heard her husbands footsteps along with someone else. The bedroom door opened and it was her Doctor and Bradley. He smiled at her. Seeing that she was awake he rushed over to her side. “Darling, I'm so glad you're awake. I’ve brought Dr. Thompson.” Dr. Katherine Thompson was 5’9, of a slender build, with long blonde hair that she wore in a bun. She had a kind face and a warm voice. Elayna felt silly seeing her here. She didn't think a doctor was necessa
Nick had been drowning his sorrows in a bottle of whiskey inside of a bar somewhere near the rocky mountains in Colorado, ever since he had lost Elayna to her bastard of a husband three days ago. He felt like his life had no meaning left. She was his everything, and she was gone. The last couple of months had been the best days of his life. She had become everything to him in that short period of time. There had been no outside distractions, just them and the fiery passionate love they had for one another. It was as if they lived in a bubble. The forests had become their refuge and safe haven. They had stayed in tents, Teepees, and Yurts deep in the woods. At night they would gaze up at the sky and marvel at it richness, and during the day Elayna would have a firsthand view of the majesty and beauty of the wild life while Nick fished nearby. The sounds of the forest had become the background of their lives. It had made it seem ethereal and even more r
The next few days for Elayna were boring to say the least. She stayed at their home. Even though their home was considered a mansion she was confined to Bradley’s Suite for the majority of her days. She was allowed to walk the premises one hour a day. The control he had on her was worse than before. It had become stifling. Bradley was never far away and made sure to give her magazines that had their faces plastered on them with salacious headlines like: “Elayna is home! Will she stay…”, “ I was lost without her…” Another caption said with a rather handsome picture of Bradley on the cover. She opened that one and saw that he had done a center page interview. He made it sound like he was languishing in despair without her. It all clicked then for her. The reason he had been so caring before. He had already put it on
“You are mine. Do you understand?”He stated. She nodded her head ‘yes’. “I’m going to fuck you as much as possible so you will have no time to think about anyone else. Soon you will forget. I know you say you already have, but I am going to make sure you truly forget, because if you don’t I will take our child and you will never see it again.” He layed back down on top of her as if he had said nothing. She laid her head back down on her pillow. He was serious. She was so conflicted. Her emotions were fragile. Nick was the love of her life, but Bradley had once been the love of her life. Bradley was still, legally her husband. He was right. She was his. He would make it where she would never be abl
Her grandmother use to always say you love who you love. She finally understood what she meant by that. Even though her love had been for her husband now it had fully blossomed and turned into something better with Nick. Dinner had been uneventful and she kept having to turn down drinks from her husband’s business associates, even though she had told them she was pregnant. She of course reminded him as politely as possible each time. By the 4th time she decided to excuse herself to the ladies room. There, she sat down in a stall and got a grip on her bearings and composure. She was suddenly exhausted. She knew with each passing day she would get more and more tired. She thought it funny she hadn't felt this way when she was in Nick’s presence. She had felt confident, happy and energetic. She took a deep breath, stood up and walked back out of the ladies room.
Bradley’s veneer of civility was slipping away by the day and more and more he had become angry at her. This time it had been over something miniscule to anyone else, but not to her husband. She had yawned when he had been talking to her about what he had planned for the days ahead of them. She had tried her best to be interested and look that that way when he spoke to her. It just seemed like she was growing more and more tired as the days went by. He had grabbed her by her shoulders and shook her hard. She remembered trying to break from from his grip. There was no use, so instead she begged for her life. She looked into his eyes. They were cold. He didn’t seem to care. He railed at her and called her a slut and a whore with a bastard in her belly. He slapped her hard then. She fell to the floor ha
She spoke then. “Elayna, don’t worry. I have your back. We will find a way. We just have to put our heads together and think.” “I already have. I see none. He watches me like a hawk. Even today I had to have clearance just to leave my own home and come here.” “You’ve tried leaving?’ “No, but I’ve been scoping out the place. The morning sickness isn’t helping . I’m sick from the time I wake up until two o’clock in the day. It’s horrible.” “I’ve got something for that.” Danita got up then and went into the kitchen. Just then her front doorbell rang. Elayna paid it no attention.
Pete stood there waiting for her. Then spoke when she stood in front of him. “Mr. King is waiting for you.” “Alright. Have any of the guests arrived? He said we were entertaining company tonight.” “Yes ma’am. The guests have arrived.” “I am late then?” He laughed at that. It reminded him of a time when she was always late and always trying to make a good first impression with these uptight rich people. Now she was polished, and refined, they still hated her for being born poor, but they treated her much better. Elayna picked up the pace and walked faster. She lifted the front of her dress a few inches, as she descended the staircase. She heard the sound of stringed instrumen
