Chapter 5
Ana's pov The ride to his mansion felt like a thousand years and yet when we finally arrived, it was as though I had only been squished between his bodyguards for a second. I saw him descending from the other car in front, he gave me a brief glance before two maids approached him. He pointed to me and made some gestures with his hands, the maids left him and rushed over to my side. “Mr Blinge said we should prepare you,” one of the maids said, and I was given no other explanation as they pulled me into the mansion taking me to the west wing, the place was massive and every inch of it reeked of wealth and opulence. If I were to disappear in a place like this… Would my mother even find out? What sort of sick twisted things was he planning for me? I thought the maids were just taking me away to lock me up, but instead they helped me wash up with luxurious soaps, shampoos, and made me wear a perfume whose flower scent almost took me from the floor. Then, they gave me a simple red gown to wear. It was a handless sparkling gown that was fitted down to the waist, and then flared just below the knees. They applied light makeup on me afterwards and also did my hair. I was confused but went along with it, I had no idea what that ruthless billionaire had planned for me, but I knew that I definitely didn't want to smell like sh*t while I endured it. It took hours, but finally I was ready, at least visually–mentally I was breaking down with tension and fear. The maids were blind to my worries, or maybe they were just not paid enough to care. They told me to wait until I was summoned to see Mr Blinge. I waited for about half an hour. In that time I had planned an elaborate escape several times, but all of them came crashing down like a pack of cards. So I surrendered myself to fate. A maid returned to the room to escort me over to his study where he was waiting. He seemed to be glossing over a book when we came in. “Mr Blinge, she's her.” “Alright, leave us alone.” The maid quickly obeyed, and I almost reached out and grabbed her leg begging for her to stay. Not like it would make much of a difference, but being alone with this man made me even more frightened than I already was. He signaled for me to approach his desk and I slowly counted my steps. “I don't have all day, Miss Miller,” he said, closing the book so suddenly that I was nearly jolted from my body. I walked faster until I was in front of him, then he invited me to sit down across from him. I looked at the chair suspiciously, then sat down. “Mr Blinge, I know nothing I say can excuse what I did but my Mom…” “...has been in dire need of a heart transplant for almost 3 years, correct?” My mouth fell open but no words came out. He crossed his legs together, smirking. “You really thought I didn't do my homework on you, how do you think I found you?” He asked, tapping his finger on the table. I was speechless, unsure of what to say, normally I was more cautious but that night I was so desperate that I practically threw caution into the wind. “I already knew who you were, the night you approached me…” It was like the walls were beginning to close on me, he knew? Even before that night? “You see…” he continued explaining, “... I've heard of you by word of mouth from some business associates, and I couldn't help being curious. Though they work small fry compared to me, I knew eventually you would try to up your game…so I've been attending practically every event I've been invited to for a while, with hopes that you would approach me,” It sounded so surreal, if he didn't speak with such confidence, I would have assumed that he was bluffing. But he wasn't. Not one bit. “But I always wear disguises,” I told him, “and not only that I go by different aliases that don't remotely look like my name…how did you?” “From the moment I saw you, I knew that you don't win a fish out of water by learning to walk, and I have to admit that you've done an impressive job at it…you're still just a fish,” “Oh…” Did I really look that foolish pretending to be one of the upper class? “From the way you outbid me at the exhibition, it was clear that you were trying to get my attention. So I played your little game, then I had you followed down to your apartment building. From there it was easy to dig into you and your past,” My head fell, he had all the evidence he needed to put me behind bars for fraud. So why wasn't he doing that? Did he plan to mentally torture me first then– His fingers held my chin and tipped my head until I was looking directly into his eyes. “You're shaking like a leaf,” he said, with a twisted smile on his face, “I already told you that I am not going to report you to the police,” “Why not? You feel sorry for me because my mother's dying?” There wasn't much of a change in his expression, but I noticed that it softened a bit. “I'm going to make you an offer, Miss Miller, you intrigue me and no woman has held my interest this long,” “I'm flattered,” I said sarcastically. He released my chin, and went back to his chair. “I'm going to make you an offer.” “If I don't agree, will you hand me over to the police?” He shook his head, “No, I didn't pursue you because I had a sense of justice for those slime balls you deceived,” he said, pushing a document under my nose. “I want you to be mine...on contract,”Chapter 1 Ana’s pov “Dr Grey, please I just need a little more time…I'm begging you, don't let my mother die.” I pleaded with the head surgeon of Fountain hospital. He gently took off his reading glasses and placed them on his desk. “Miss Miller, we are doing everything we can, but if your mother doesn't get her heart transplant soon…” he allowed the silence to convey the gravity of his words as I was crushed beneath it. “How…how long does she have?” I managed to say in between sobs. “Two…maybe three months at best.” My heart sank to the floor. “Dr Gray, where do I get 1.5 million dollars within such a limited time!” Having sold virtually every single property I and my mother owned, down to our TV. I was only able to raise a miserly $20,000; which is hardly enough to scratch the surface. “Don't you have health insurance?” The doctor asked hopefully. A dry chuckle escaped my lips. “Sort of…” I said wiping my tears with the back of my hand, “I've called and made se
Chapter 2 Ana's pov All eyes in the gallery, including his, rested on me, and one emotion that they all shared reflexively was outstanding shock. I had not simply made a bet on the art piece but also directly challenged one of the wealthiest and ruthless men in the country with that simple action. The night had only begun, but I had thrown all my chips into the game. So I was either going big or going home. If I couldn't get the balance for my mother's surgery, the rest of the money would be pointless anyways. I was hoping that he would outbid me, after all from whatever has been read about him, he was a competitive man but strangely he didn't offer a higher amount and the painting was sold to me. It felt like the ground beneath My feet was beginning to spin when the painting was declared mine; I thought he would challenge me and this will give me an opening to approach him but now…I had lost everything...my Mom was going to… “And just when I thought tonight had alread
Chapter 3 Ana’s pov Usually, I waited till my targets were comfortable and at ease, boldly flaunting off my charms to draw them deeper into the hook then whisk them out as my catch. The wine was helpful a lot too to have them let down their guards. When I had convinced him to take his fifth glass while I was only on my second, sipping away delicately, I suddenly wore a confused expression on my face. “Oh no, where is my phone? My father must be worried sick. If I don't call him he'll probably have the entire police squad looking for me by tomorrow morning.” I made sure to inject an exaggeratedly large amount of panic into my voice so that he would take me seriously. It worked, and he offered to help me look for it, I smiled and thanked him. While his back was turned I sprinkled some white powder into his drink that quickly dissolved without leaving any traces. “Oh, Mr Blinge, nevermind…it was in my purse all along, silly me let me text my father,” I said, faking relief.
Chapter 4 Ana's pov “My love, I'm sorry, but do you mind explaining everything to me again?” My Mom asked me; each word that passed through her lips did so with intentional efforts, so much so that it made my heart basically ache to watch my once energetic mother struggle with something so basic as speech. In the past weeks, I had mastered the art of crafting believable stories. I told her that I have been working for a rich old lady who was in dire need of a caretaker. “So what went wrong?” She inquired worriedly. “The woman passed away, but her kids refused to pay me…I would take them to court but…even that isn't an option now, besides they can always bribe the judge to favor them.” My Mom settled in her bed, a look of complete resignation claiming her facial features. “I suppose it wasn't meant to be, you did your best, and that means the world to me…” “But Mom…” “It's okay,” she said soothingly as she stroked my hair, “It's, Okay, my love.” I burst int
Chapter 6Ana's POVThree days. That was the amount of time I had to make a choice. Either I save my mother or risk finding out what Marcus Blinge would do to me. I let out a frustrated sigh as I stared at the brown envelope in my hand containing the contract. How did I get myself in all this? I sat in the dimly lit hospital room, my teary eyes were fixed on my mother's frail form. Memories of how energetic and healthy my mum had once been filled my head making the tears run out even more. I would just have to get another job, I can't take this contract. I had always imagined how happy I would be on my wedding day when I would be getting married to the man of my dreams, but here I was being offered a loveless marriage with a ruthless man. I threw the brown envelope to one corner of the room angrily.I held my head as I grimaced in pain. I think I have done a lot of thinking for today. " Everything would be alright my darling." My mum would always say. I just have to find another jo
Chapter 7Ana's POV I stared blankly at my small bag that was stuffed with all the clothes I had. I heard a knock on the door, Marcus had called me earlier to inform me that a driver was going to come pick me to take me to his penthouse. I was really doing this. I picked up my back and pulled the door open. " Hello Miss Miller, I'm Burnley and Mr Blinge sent me here to pick you." " You can call me Ana." I said with a small smile." Let me help you with your luggage." " No that won't be necessary." I said as I passed him and went out. As we drove to his penthouse, I couldn't help but feel a sense of unease. What have I gotten myself into? When we arrived at the penthouse, Marcus was already waiting at the door. As I walked to him I could see his eyes scanning me but I couldn't tell what he was thinking of. Probably the fact that my luggage looks like I was coming for a one night sleepover. He pushed the door open revealing the most beautifully furnished pent house I had ever see
Chapter 8 Ana's POV At the door of my office was an angry looking Marcus furiously typing on his phone. " Where have you been?" He said in a deep yet calm tone. " I... Went for lunch." I stammered. He stared at me scrutinizing me from hear to toe. His look wanted to make me shrink into the ground. " I don't see any food with you." I glanced at my hand embarrassed. " I.. never.." " We have a meeting in the next thirty minutes get ready for it." He interrupted my blubbering mess. " You're going to be taking the minutes so don't make me look for you." He said sternly before walking away. I let out a sigh of relief immediately he entered his office. I don't understand how I can walk into a room full of powerful and rich people confidently but I turn into a stammering mess when it comes to Marcus Blinge. His aura has a way of making me intimidated or maybe it's just the evidence he has against me. " Miss Miller I want to believe the conference room has been set up." Marcus said
Chapter 9 Marcus POV The shrill ringtone of my phone jerked me out of my thoughts and back to reality. I reached for my phone in my jacket. " Burnley, this better be good." I said immediately I picked the call. " I can't find Miss Miller." He said breathless like he had been running. "What do you mean you can't find her? Isn't she in the penthouse?" "No sir, I have been waiting for her so that I could drive her back home and I haven't seen her and she isn't in the office." I rolled my eyes frustrated and glanced at my wristwatch. It was almost eleven PM, where could she be? A surge of annoyance ran through me, I didn't have the time to be worrying about this. I had a business to run and an empire to build " Don't worry Burnley, go home." I said before I hanged up. " Turn the car around, St Caroline hospital." I said to my driver. She better be there. I got to her mum's ward and heard giggles and laughing coming from the room. The door was slightly open so I could see Ana,
Chapter 20Ana's POVSilence stretched between us after Marcus’s confession. His words hung in the air, cold and unwavering."I never want to have one."I gripped the wine glass tighter, my heartbeat pounding in my ears. My free hand instinctively brushed over my stomach—over the tiny life growing inside me. He had no idea.I swallowed hard, forcing a small, casual laugh. "Marcus, just because your father was a terrible parent doesn’t mean you will be."His jaw clenched. "You don’t understand, Ana.""Then make me understand."He exhaled sharply, rubbing his temple as if debating whether to say more. "I don’t just hate children. I fear what I’d become if I had one. My father—he was a tyrant. He controlled everything—my mother, my childhood, my future. He made me believe love was a weakness. That family was just a means to an end."I watched him closely. This wasn’t the arrogant, untouchable Marcus Blinge I knew. This was someone burdened by his past, by the demons he tried to outrun.H
Chapter 19Ana's POV The following week came by pretty quick, with Marcus being less annoying and demanding I had no problem doing my job. I was surprised that this part of him existed. He smiled more often, we went to work together and got back together, we ate breakfast and dinner together. It was gradually becoming a routine that I was looking forward to everyday. Sometimes I get lost in the thought of that day. The memory of his hand, his lips, the way he whispered that I was his. It all clung to me like a second skin that I couldn't wash away. I glanced at myself in the mirror for the last time smoothing the creases on my gown. I was wearing a purple coperate flare gown, and I must say it looked beautiful on me. I arranged my hair again before I picked up my bag and walked out of my room to the kitchen." Marcus, I'm done." I called out as I entered the kitchen. I didn't get a response." Marcus?" I called out again, still no response. I noticed a note on the covered plate of
Chapter 18Ana's POV I woke up to the sound of steady breathing beside me. For a moment, I forgot where I was— until I felt the firm weight of a hand draped around my waist. My eyes snapped open and I turned to see Marcus still sleeping peacefully. I picked up my phone to check the time and it was four AM. I think I have to leave before he wakes up. I carefully peeled his arm off me and sat up, he stirred but didn't wake up. He looked so relaxed and incapable of being rude or strict. I exhaled deeply and ran my fingers through my hair before standing up, I had to get out of here before things get complicated. I tiptoed around the room and picked up my bag and shoe. Just as I reached the door, I heard his groggy voice." Ana." I turned back to see him sitting on the bed, rubbing his eyes. " Good morning, Sir." I said with a tight lipped smile. " Morning, where are you going? It's still dark outside." He said picking up his phone to check the time. " Home?" I said stating the ob
Chapter 17Ana's POV I stared at my reflection in the bathroom mirror, the intense redness of my eyes indicated that I had been crying. I pulled my hair into a messy bun allowing few strands of hair out to frame my face. I needed to pull myself together, today was not the day to fall apart. I splashed cold water on my face hoping it would wash away the exhaustion that cling to me like a second skin. It was already seven AM, I let out a tired sigh grabbing my bag and headed out of the apartment. I looked around the buzzing city but I felt disconnected from it. My mind kept replaying the picture of Marcus and Daisy throughout the entire ride to the office. I don't know why I got my hopes up that we could have a chemistry. I was just his property, another thing he acquired via a contract. What hurts the most is that he reminds me of it at every moment he gets. When I arrived at the office, immediately I noticed something was off. Marcus packing space in the garage was vacant. That's w
Chapter 16Marcus POV I stared at the picture of I and Daisy that had spread all over the internet like wild fire. She had locked lips with me that night against my wish. She had invited me for a meeting that night, I went with the intention of cutting her off completely and warning her to stay away from Ana. But she obviously had tricks up her sleeves. I walked into the penthouse hoping that Ana had not seen it yet, at least until I explained it. The elevator opened at the floor of the penthouse and she was standing right there with a small bag. " Where are you going?" " Far away from your drama obviously." She said as she tried to walk past me. " You are not going anywhere until we talk this out." " You want to talk Marcus? No! We can't talk." She yelled angrily. She's going to make me do this the hard way." You are not allowed to leave to anywhere without my permission." I said sternly as I arranged my suit." Says who?" She shot back. " Says the contract, so if you still
Chapter 15Ana's POV I had not seen Marcus since the day at the cafe. He didn't show up at the office and he didn't even drop by the penthouse like he used to do. I was left to manage the office alone, Jolene was a great company though. We ate lunch together so I wasn't really bored but I could feel his absence at the office. I tried to focus on work but I couldn't shake off the feeling of sadness that settled in my chest. I decided to take a break from the work cycle and visit my mum at the hospital. I hadn't seen her in a while. I walked down the hallway that my mum's ward was on. When I got to her ward she wasn't there. The place was cleared like no one was ever there. My heart started beating fast and it felt like the world was spinning. I rushed out of the room panicking. I really hope she is fine. I saw a nurse walking down the hallway and decided to ask her." Excuse me." I said obstructing her way. " I'm looking for my mum, room 516. She's not there." " I don't know where
Chapter 14Ana's POV I stared outside the window watching the passing building as I got lost in my thoughts. He was definitely avoiding me this morning. I felt a knot in my stomach as Blinge Empire building came in view. " Thank you Burnley." I said as he pulled over in front of the company. I stepped out and walked through the reception greeting everyone I came across with a smile. I glanced at the clock at the office it was already past eight AM. Hurriedly I picked up a cup of coffee at the cafe across the street before heading to his office with a file containing his schedule for today. I stood at his office door, took a few breath to calm myself down before I pushed the door open. " Good...." I paused when I noticed his seat was empty. My eyes roamed around the office but it was empty. It was unlike him to be late to work. I had hoped to be able to talk to him before work hours start proper. As I set down his schedule the door burst open. A furious Marcus marched into the ro
Chapter 13Marcus POVMy eyes sprung open, I didn't want to close it so that I don't return to the nightmare that hunted me every night. My heart was racing and the sheets were drenched in sweat. I heard soft snores coming from beside me, so I turned to see the source of the snores. It was Ana.Everything came rushing back, we back home and I had made her drink water to sober up. She even vomited on her dress so I had to get a female cleaner downstairs to help her change into a comfy cloth. She held onto my shirt so tight and made me to stay with her till I eventually slept off. I stared at her, taking in her peaceful features. I had wrapped her long black hair into a bun so that it doesn't get into her vomit. I stared at her slightly parted full lips that were really tempting. I couldn't help but admire. She looked really beautiful up close. I tucked a few strands of hair that slipped out of the bun behind her ear.She turned a bit as my hand made contact with her ear then her eyes
Chapter 12Ana's POVI laid down in bed staring at the ceiling. I used a white napkin to clear the line of tears that made its way down my cheeks. I was still wondering what came over him that made him to take such rash decision. I felt my phone vibrate, it was probably Marcus calling me to remind me how I'm a property given to him by contract. I didn't want any of this wedding at all. I haven't told my mum yet, she's going to be so surprised and she would probably not like this. My phone vibrated again, I rolled my eyes at the caller. Can't I just have a little time to myself. I swiped the answer button and kept it on my ear without even a glance. " Marcus what do you want?" I asked in a frustrated tone." Our boss calls you even on the weekends?" A feminine voice came through the phone. Immediately, I took it from my ear to see who it was. It was Jolene. " Jolene! I'm so sorry, I had no idea that it was you." I rushed out, sitting up." It's fine." She said with her contagious lau
