Chapter 708

Author: Cozy Season
Melody and Shelia stood close together, the picture of a doting grandmother and her beloved granddaughter.

The sight of either of them was enough to disgust Erica, and now they had appeared together.

"What are they doing here?" she muttered with annoyance.

The manager quickly explained, "I've heard that Mr. Nichols is also getting engaged. I presume they're here to select dresses."

Erica frowned. "There are only so many high-end boutiques in Seamar City, and we just had to run into these two. Talk about bad luck."

Debra shook her head. "Bad luck? I'd say they're here to stir up trouble."

It didn't feel like a coincidence at all. Seamar City had plenty of boutiques, yet they had shown up at the same place and on the same day.

It seemed more like Shelia had intentionally found out where Debra was going and brought Melody along for support.

A staff member placed rows of dresses in front of Shelia. "Mr. Blair, these are our latest products. Feel free to take your pick."

"Well..." The staff member hesitated. The wedding gown and dress designed for Debra were not just any pieces. They were one-of-a-kind, custom-tailored specifically for her. The Houstons had even purchased the exclusive rights to the designs, ensuring their uniqueness.According to store policy, those gowns couldn't be sold to anyone else.Shelia grumbled, "Is there a problem?"The staff member replied, "Ms. Blair, this dress was custom-made for Mrs. Houston, specifically tailored to her measurements. I'm afraid it might not fit you properly. How about we have our designer create something just for you?"Shelia insisted, "But I want that design for my engagement dress. Either make me an identical one or make it better than what she's wearing."She shot Debra a smug, challenging look, and the staff members were caught in the middle. The tailor finished her job, putting away the measuring tape.Debra slipped back into her coat, her composure unshaken.Erica, however, was fuming.

Over the past few months, Shelia had immersed herself in the world of fashion, thanks to her time with the Blair family. She now had a decent grasp of fabrics, styles, and trends. When the staff member handed the chosen fabric to the manager, the latter asked, "What style did Mr. Blair choose?"The staff member replied, "She hasn't chosen a style yet, but we're about to show her some options."Debra glanced at the satin and said to the manager, "Didn't she say she liked the dress I'm wearing? Just show her my style."The manager hesitated. "But the gown you're wearing is a fishtail design. If we use the stiff silk satin she chose, it might not work well."Debra's gown was made from soft chiffon, which flowed beautifully and accentuated the fishtail shape. Shelia's satin, on the other hand, was stiff and not suited for such a delicate design."Well, that's what she requested," Debra said. "Maybe we think it won't look good, but who knows? She might think otherwise. Besides, the cu

"Why did you stop me from teaching Shelia a lesson?" Erica said, unable to contain her frustration. With Marion's influence in Seamar City, even if they had to face off against Juan, they wouldn't lose a step.It was clear to everyone present that Shelia had deliberately tried to outshine Debra."Did you notice the fabric she picked?""Satin?""And the style?""A mermaid dress."Erica paused, finally catching on.Shelia had picked the same style as Debra, but the fabric she chose was different.Erica mused, "And she wants to bedazzle the whole thing with rhinestones. My goodness! I can't even imagine what it'll look like."Debra grinned, "I need you to do me a favor. Talk to the designer and make sure they follow Shelia's instructions. I'll cover the cost."Erica gave her a thumbs up. "Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant."The engagement party was just three days away, and given the tight deadline, there would be no time to fix anything if Shelia's dress ended up a disaster. If

Debra scrolled through the comment thread beneath Marion's supposed alias.[Marion, use your main account.][Yeah.][The moment a Debra-Juan fan says anything, Mr. Houston's there to shut it down.]Debra liked Marion's comment and planned to exit the app when a video compilation caught her eye.It was a clip of her and Juan from their time on the island, meticulously edited to emphasize every small gesture between them. The captions painted a picture of intimacy and affection.[Whenever Juan looks at her, his eyes are full of love.][That hand he reached out? That was instinctive.][She's looking ahead, but he's only looking at her.]...Debra was dazed. She hadn't noticed these details during the livestream. But soon, Juan's cold face resurfaced in her mind. The last time they met, he was full of indifference. She wondered if he was pretending or revealing his true colors. With doubt in mind, she grabbed her phone and scrolled through her contacts, landing on Juan's name

Debra quickly checked out the announcement from Juan. It was made by a new account named "Juan Studio".And there was only one post. [No speculations].Debra bolted upright from the couch and asked Ben, "Is this account real?""I had it checked. It's a certified account. So, yes, it's true."Besides, it was the kind of move Juan would make. He had always hated being dragged into any sort of drama, preferring to handle things swiftly and efficiently. But still, Debra couldn't help but think back to the time they had survived a life-and-death situation together on that island. She didn't understand why he was going against her like this now.Ben continued, "Everyone now believes we're creating hype, and your reputation has taken a hit. Your fans...""I understand," Debra said. The Debra-Juan shippers were now either turning into indifferent bystanders or haters. The damage to her reputation was becoming evident.Debra checked out those comments."Let it be. Don't worry about it

Business magnates, real estate tycoons, and A-list celebrities alike gathered, each vying for a coveted invitation. The streets were jammed with high-end cars, creating a traffic gridlock that made it nearly impossible to pass through. The Royal Grand Hotel and the Maple Hotel were competitors, to begin with. Now their rivalry extended even to their security teams and ushers. Each team was determined to outshine the other, their bespoke uniforms a testament to their competitive spirit. The underground parking lots had been expanded to accommodate the flood of guests. From a distance, passersby whispered among themselves."Both families are throwing engagement parties today. Attending either will land you offending the other.""I think the Nichols have the upper hand. They're the top dogs in Seamar City. Who would dare disrespect them?""I heard Mr. Houston Sr. spent over 100 million dollars on this engagement party.""What? 100 million?"No one had expected the Houstons to pul

Liza screamed in fear as she glanced in her rearview mirror. The car behind hers was barely a centimeter away from crashing into her own.She fumed, "Who the hell drives like that? Do you have any idea how much this car costs?"The other car was common, and she assumed the driver was some reckless, nouveau riche fool with no sense of road safety. But when the driver stepped out, her blood ran cold. Her face turned pale as she recognized Randy. She had heard of the Osborne family's influence, even when she was abroad. In fact, her visit to Seamar City this time was to build a good relationship with them.Randy's icy gaze swept over her. "Who said Debra doesn't have a family? The Osborne family stands behind her."Cathryn stepped forward, trying to smooth things over. "Mr. Osborne, you're joking. Debra and you aren't related by blood. How could you support her?"Randy retorted, "That's none of your concern. I will be the best man at her wedding. That makes me as good as her family

Liza stood frozen, her mouth agape. The message was clear: with the Osborne family, the Mathis family, and the Potter family backing Debra, she was untouchable. Those who had originally planned to attend the Nichols' engagement party quickly reconsidered. With Seamar City's most influential figures all heading to the Houstons' event, where else would anyone of importance be?Meanwhile, inside the grand Maple Hotel, Melody frowned as she noticed the dwindling number of guests. "Where is everyone going?"A servant approached her cautiously. "Mrs. Nichols Sr., many of the guests have excused themselves and gone out. Something big might be happening next door."Melody took a deep breath. "I'll go take a look."Despite the Nichols family's high status in Seamar City, it seemed like the only people left at their engagement party were their business partners.Storming outside, she was met with the sight of a steady stream of guests heading toward the Houstons' party. Her anger flared.

Debra's eyes narrowed at this guy she'd never heard of.Michael had kept it under wraps, proving he had never fully trusted her."Mrs. Houston," Jason said, "I'm here for Mr. Austin to negotiate. He called this shareholder vote in the name of the biggest stakeholder. He's got the right to kick it off. Any objections?"Debra plopped into the head chair. "Cut the polite crap. Everyone's here. Objections or not, this vote's happening, right? No way it's that simple.""Mrs. Houston," Jason said coolly, "today's vote's straightforward: who's better suited as the McKinney Group CEO, you or Mr. Austin? Everyone here sees what you both bring. In the past two years, you've barely shown up. Mr. Austin ran the show, held a key role, and raked in profits. He's the clear pick for CEO.""So, you're saying I suck as the boss?" Debra shot back.Michael didn't even show, sending this random assistant instead. That already pissed her off.Now this guy's veiled jabs annoyed her even more."I'm ju

Debra's heart sank.Back when she'd teamed up with Michael, she had nothing, offering him Frazier Entertainment shares to seal the deal. Later, Frazier Entertainment merged into the McKinney Group, and she handed it off to him.To keep her identity hidden, she'd tossed him more shares. With Frazier Entertainment, he'd racked up 30%.She'd thought he deserved it. For two years, he'd run the show plenty. She'd never seen this coming."Madam, you there?" Ben's voice shook. This was huge and should stay quiet. Otherwise, the company would fall into chaos.Debra's blood ran cold. She hadn't expected Michael to go so far."I'll be there soon," she said, hanging up.She turned to Marion. "Michael scooped up loose shares. He's gunning for a vote as top shareholder."Over 40% wasn't half, but it made him the biggest player. Calling a vote was his right.Debra only had 40%. If 10% of the rest sided with Michael, he could oust her."Don't sweat it," Marion said. "We'll hit it together.

"Get your people searching. We need his trail fast, or he's dead."Once the Illuminati squeezed the stone's location out of Drake, they'd kill him.Orkgate was now controlled by Lara. Drake had no other value for them."On it," Marion said. They split up. Erica and Randy tapped their networks."Debra, don't freak," Jordan said. "Drake is not dumb. Injured like that, he couldn't have gone far. As long as he keeps that secret, they won't kill him."Debra nodded. "Hope he doesn't do anything stupid."She should've seen it coming. Outside their room, Drake froze mid-knock.His head was down, and his expression was hidden. Eventually, his hand dropped, and he sighed. He turned around and shuffled downstairs, leaning on the wall. He was a broken mess now, unwilling to drag them down....Debra woke up the next morning, reaching for Marion. He wasn't there. She bolted upright, threw off the covers, and ran barefoot downstairs, shouting, "Marion?"In the hall, Marion and Jordan turned as she stumbled in, still in her pajamas.Marion rushed up, slipping off his slippers for her. "What's with the panic?""I didn't see you." She heaved a sigh of relief. "Thought you'd...""Any luck?" Jordan asked Kale, who'd just walked in.Kale shook his head. "Not yet.""What's up?" Debra jolted awake from a nightmare, her forehead slick with sweat."Still torn up about Michael?" Marion's voice came from beside her.She settled into his arms, finally feeling a little relieved. These past two months, they'd faced everything alone. She hadn't curled up with him like this in forever."It's my fault," she whispered. "If I hadn't trusted Michael so much, the Eaton family wouldn't have been a mess. Mr. Eaton Sr. wouldn't have been in the hospital.""It's your fault," Marion said, patting her back. "Even without your trust, the Illuminati would've found a way in. That was their goal.""I just can't wrap my head around why Michael's one of them," she said. She'd spent all night recalling the past, from meeting Michael to building the McKinney Group with him. He was key to its success, but everything had been a lie."Maybe he was never with us," Marion said. "The Illuminati's everywhere. Didn't you check his background when you teamed up?""I..." "We're all in it for ourselves." Michael shrugged. "Jeffery did his part for the Illuminati, so I'll cut you some slack. He pushed the teacup to Juan. "But I don't buy it that you're all-in. Following in Jeffery's footsteps sounds nice, but you killed him, which shows your ruthless nature. We need people like you. I don't care if you're Debra's mole or chasing your angle. Save your energy. It's pointless. Just do your job and back us up. I won't say a word about it.""Should I thank you for it?" Juan scoffed. He'd thought Michael was forced into it, but now he saw how naïve that was.Though young, Michael was already a core member, suggesting his connection to the Illuminati dates back a long time.Only intelligent and influential ones could enter the core circle. That meant he hadn't defected midway.Michael sat down across from him. "Don't look at me like that. We're not the same, and you know it.""When'd you turn on Debra?" It was true they were both members of the Illuminati, but Fermin never signed up to be a lapdog.Back then, he'd teamed up with them for mutual gain. But the Illuminati wanted more than a partnership. They wanted the Eaton family on a leash. When Fermin didn't bite, Michael added, "I saw Miss Eaton crying her eyes out. We go way back. Should I cheer her..."Before he could finish, Fermin's knife flashed to his throat, nicking him. Blood trickled, but it was just a scratch."Stay away from her," Fermin growled. "Touch her, and I'll end you.""I'm just being nice here," Michael chuckled. "But if you're not cool with it, I'll drop it. But those terms? Think twice. We only help our own. If you keep playing your own game, that heart goes elsewhere. And trust me, you won't find another match."Fermin hated to admit it, but Michael was speaking the truth. She couldn't lose Bert or watch Fermin turn into this. She didn't want Debra's crew hurt either.Fermin pulled her into a hug. "Don't worry. Dad will be fine. I'll make sure of it."His promise unleashed her tears. The hospital hallway echoed with her cries.Once she calmed down, Fermin had someone take her away.A guard stepped up. "Mr. Eaton, our master is waiting ahead.""You've tailed me this whole way," Fermin said coldly. "Gonna keep it up? I don't like shadows."The guards stayed silent, just following orders. If their boss said stick to Fermin, they'd die before leaving his side."Loyal dogs to your master," Fermin scoffed, brushing past them.He walked into an empty ward.
