<Xavier POV>

--------------------

What was an epic fate, meeting two well-named gangs in one day? And the fun fact was, I got the job of delivering the dead body of one of the mighty ones by the order of another one. I should have posted it on social media. I bet it would hit a million likes.

The person sitting in front of me in the van was another Romano. Brown hair, grey eyes, and fit built what an eighteen years old kid could have but the nerves of this guy, glaring at us as if ready to burn each one of us alive the moment we set him free.

The Romano Family ruled the New York black market over the decades. Italians were the most powerful gang before Kings came into existence. Both gangs were known for their hatred for each other. They have been thirsty for each other’s blood for decades.

Shit hit the fan when Evan kidnapped Johnson’s daughter (father of Ryker Romano and previous leader of Italians). Eventually, Evan King and Angelina Romano fell in love and married against the Romano family's approval. But after 5 years of their marriage, in one night the entire King family died in a car crash except for Evan, who was out of the country for business. Captivating family drama, right?

Tires screeched, and the van stopped when we reached Romano’s place. The front black gate was blocked by the armed guards. Kyle rolled down the window and grabbed Roman guy’s hair before pointing a gun at his head. That was enough for guards to open the gates and give us a way.

They might have delivered the news of our arrival because the second we crossed the metal gates, moreover 50 people were waiting for us in front of a vintage-style house, big enough to inhabit an entire tribe in it.

Kyle scoffed, “I don’t mind killing some fuckers, neither Reb gave specific orders not to.” Without turning to me, he instructed me to get the boy out whilst he opened the door and went out to greet the Italians as if they were his old buddies.

I helped Roman get out of the car, yet his hands were handcuffs, and his lips were sealed. I let my gaze wander to our surroundings, which can be described as a gangster movie scene. We are surrounded by around fifty men, bulky bodies all dressed in black and armed with the latest weapons.

“It’s been a long-time, dear friend. Oh look at you, you seem worried. Missing your boss?” Kyle mocked the man standing in front of him. Liam, right-hand man of Ryker, if my memory serves me right.

Liam was around thirty years or so, the guy with a tall frame and bulging muscles. His dark eyes were shining with rage and there was a mark slicing down his left cheek.

Liam glared at Kyle with eyes filled with so much hatred, fists balled by his side, and veins popping the side of his neck, making him look fearsome. Yet Kyle had no care in the world.

Kyle smirked proudly, enjoying messing with the Liam guy. He gestured to one of the guards with us without moving his gaze from the man in front of him. Guard ran to follow the order. He opened the car’s trunk and pulled out a big bag with the help of another guard. It seemed heavy for one to handle.

The entire surrounding went quiet as the air changed and all eyes drifted to focus on the big black bag which got dumped in front of the entire gang to watch.

At Kyle’s next signal guard opened the zipper to reveal what was inside it.

Waves of shocks crossed all of their faces, even the guards with us scrunching their noses in disgust and puked at the sight of the body laid in front of them.

…… dead body of Ryker Romano.

I clenched my jaw when I stared at the lifeless body of a powerful man. It could haunt the nights of grown-ups. 90% of the body was burned, and bones peeking out of the arms were coated with dried blood. No hair had left on his head. His face was unrecognizable. His body turned black as coal. If not for the romano family crest pendant dangling around his neck by a gold chain, it would have been hard to identify.

….. the devil could get scared of this sight.

No wonder she was known as the Evil Queen. She was merciless and possessed no heart in that beautiful body of hers. Yikes! Did I just call her beautiful? What’s wrong with me?

She killed people with her bare hands without an ounce of mercy. She was nothing more than a monster or something more terrible if exists.

A flesh of memories jumped back to the edge of my mind when I went inside that damn cell. Air was tainted with the smell of the burned chunk making me gag. I clenched my jaw so hard that my teeth hurt.

I exhaled sharply before punching the code and the door snapped open. Inside was stinking as dogs burned to death here. Unbearable, yet I survived.

The room was small with four metal walls surrounding it. It didn’t take long for me to find the body lying at the far end of the room. If you called it one anymore.

The metal walls had evidence of violent efforts. And the body was burned by current, not fire or teasers, I could tell. His arms peeled off any skin, and bones were visible for the naked eye to count. Struggle marks were left on the floor and walls, indicating that it was a painful death, not a quick shot.

The Killer wanted to torture his prey till his last breath and from the scratch marks on the floor; she succeeded in her task pretty well.

This man was breathing when the current burned his body, but what amazed me was the amount of burning. It needs a high voltage current such as a lightning stake or power plant, which was not possible to be available in this closed space.

“Gross, how can someone be so evil!?” a man behind me complained quite loudly for me to listen. We both didn’t know each other, yet Kyle ordered us to seize the body.

“I highly doubt you want this person to hear you bad-mouthing about him.” He shuddered at the thought.

“Yeah, man. You got me. By the way, I’m Manik. I joined yesterday.” I nodded.

“You can call me Xavier.” He arched his brow at me.

“Oh, so you are that newbie they were talking about?” Now it was my time to give a questioning glare.

“Um, let’s talk about it later. This smell is killing me!” Right, this smell was hazardous to breathe in. I hummed in reply and concentrated on carefully wrapping the body in a bag and loading it into the trunk of one of the cars waiting outside.

I knew the consequences I would have to bear if I dared to disrespect her words and did something rash. And believe me, mom turned scary, not a sight you want to witness.“Forgive me, Miss, I received orders to guard you until you enter the college building. And you are not allowed to use your mobile phone either.” Mr. Karim stated in his perfectly professional voice, which irked me off. I gritted my teeth angrily yet nodded curtly while handing my cell to him, no matter how much I wanted to run off, but I knew better. With this man as my bodyguard, it was safer to do as told, at least for now, because Mr. Karim had a sickness of endless loyalty towards his boss.Mr. Karim moved ahead to open

But nothing happened. I was left disappointed."You still have time to get on your knees and beg for mercy. I might let you off with a slap on the wrist—if I feel generous," I said mockingly.Still nothing.I began to wonder if someone had given me the wrong address just to mess with me.Suddenly, a blinding light flashed in my face.
