*Rebel POV*
Xavier was light on his feet, moving freely around the boxing ring as if taking a stroll in the park, not facing Vincent—the second-best fighter we had after Kyle.
He was getting under Vincent’s skin, and it seemed to be working. Vincent was strong, but patience was never his strong suit.
After months of leaving the business under Kyle's supervision, I was finally back to take charge again.
Angelina hadn’t been thrilled, but as promised, I’d stayed back until my first-term exams were over, and she had honored our agreement.
Today was one of the days I actually looked forward to: rank promotions through boxing matches.
It was a Kings tradition.
Evan had started it to make sure his gang members had a fair chance to prove their skills and to keep them sharp and actively participating.
Vincent went for it, swinging his fist at Xavier's face, but before he could even graze a hair on Xavier’s head, Xavier slipped and threw an uppercut, knocking Vincent out cold.
The crowd that had been cheering for Vincent fell silent. It was over quickly but executed perfectly.
With that, the only person standing between Xavier and the final win was Kyle.
I looked to my side and met Kyle’s gaze. He nodded and prepared to fight.
He took off his hoodie, leaving only his boxer shorts. Flashing his muscles a bit, he jumped the ropes to get into the ring and face his opponent.
Kyle was many things, but he was also a big show-off, and the others seemed to love him for it.
The noise returned, with cheers for both Kyle and Xavier, echoing so loudly it could be heard for miles from the gym floor.
Raymond rang the bell, signaling the start of the match.
Xavier and Kyle tapped gloves before circling each other like predators, locking eyes, trying to read each other’s moves.
Xavier made the first move but missed as Kyle dodged quickly. He was nearly untouchable in the ring.
It looked like a dance. Both were in sync, moving skillfully.
Only in the last few seconds did Xavier break through Kyle’s defenses and land a hit, but Kyle was also in motion, and his punches were stronger.
When the bell sounded, Kyle was the clear winner.
He immediately went to check on Xavier, whose nose was bleeding, and offered him first aid.
I left them to it and returned to my room for the rest of the day. I had other matters to attend to.
Like keeping tabs on Drake Marshall.
In a short period, he and Ryan had become inseparable. I hadn’t forbidden my little brother from making friends, but there was something about Drake Marshall—a gut feeling I couldn’t shake.
I’d also found him snooping around the house a few times, mostly near my room. He tried to feed me some excuse, but I wasn’t buying it.
Yet his background was spotless. His parents had died when he was ten, and after spending two years in an orphanage, he’d been adopted by a decent family. Bright kid. No trouble on record.
Still, I couldn’t shake my suspicion. I just didn’t want Ryan getting caught up in anything dangerous.
I’d asked Karim to keep an eye on them in my absence and not let Angelina find out. Unlike me, she wouldn’t wait for Ryan to be hurt before removing the threat. She was fiercely protective of her son, especially since Evan had gone.
I couldn’t blame her. If I were in her position, I’d do the same.
---
That night, everyone gathered around the dining table—a tradition Evan had started—for a feast celebrating the rank promotions. But before that, the new ranks were to be announced by the leader, a.k.a. me.
I sat at the head of the table, with Kyle seated to my right, a fitting place for my right-hand man. The others stood in line, waiting for the results to be revealed.
“Do the honors, my queen,” Kyle said with a wink. He knew I didn’t like this part, and what was the point when everyone already knew who’d won?
Shooting him a glare, I cleared my throat and sat up straight, glancing at the others, who were clearly waiting to dive into the food prepared for them.
“There’s no doubt Kyle Martin was today’s winner, keeping his position as the Kings’ right-hand man. But there’s one more member who deserves recognition tonight.”
“Xavier Delano, step forward,” I called out to the gang's newest and fastest-rising member.
He stepped forward with a confident glint in his eyes, dressed in a black hoodie and jeans, giving off a slightly sinister vibe. The others had followed the rules and wore jackets with the gang's crest. Normally, I’d admire rule-breaking, but for some reason, something about this guy felt off. Kyle hadn’t stopped praising him the entire time I’d been gone—and Kyle didn’t usually give anyone that much credit.
Maybe it was nothing. Or maybe not.
For now, I planned to keep a close watch on Xavier Delano.
Putting on a faint smile, I looked him in the eye, meeting his intense gaze. “Gentlemen, here’s the new in-charge of all the clubs in New York under the Kings' jurisdiction.”
He’d lost the last match to Kyle, who kept his seat, but seeing Delano’s dedication, Kyle had requested that he receive a reward.
Kyle and the others, celebrating with food and drinks, seemed happy for Delano’s achievement; though, there were a few in the room who didn’t seem to take the news
well.
I left them to it and returned to the work that had piled up in my absence.
Ryan's POV“Let’s play Call of Duty tonight,” I suggested, walking down the busy hallways of my college with my friends.I liked spending time with them; with my friends, I felt less lonely. Hence no one at school wanted to talk to me since they knew very well what kind of business my dad was into. Life was painfully boring for me. --- “No matter how fast you run, you can't hide from your destiny because destiny has its way of finding you.” --- A tiny figure was running in the darkness of the alleyway. A fourteen-year-old girl, huffing, struggling to get enough oxygen for her lungs to function smoothly. Her tiny frame was trembling like a leaf, cheeks stained with tears. She was holding a shiny object in her shaky hands close to her chest, as if her life depended on it. The girl was none other than I, Rachael Santiago, the daughter of Raphael and Vanessa Santiago. My parents were council members of a secret society of supernaturals, Synx, and the owners of Santiago groups of companies. Supernatural, gifted, or part-human, you name it. In short, humans carry magic in their lineage. We could do stuff other people can only dream of or either pulled in movies. Every member of the special families, or as we called clans, has different and unique gifts of their own. We carried our gift from birth. We could feel
---------------Sitting in my office, I was trying to reach my contacts for help; I knew I couldn’t stand a chance against them, alone.I called my alliance like a thousand times, but every time whether it was unavailable, switched off, or complete ‘no’ in answer. I should have known that nobody would dare to step against the Kings. I cried out with frustration and threw my phone into the wall facing me to let the useless gadget crash into pieces. Before I ambled to open my weapons vault. I knew what I thought before perpetrating a suicidal plan, but I wouldn’t go to beg for mercy either, no. Never. It stated as the first rule of the underworld: ‘shoot first or be ready to die.’ I’m Ryker Romano, a mafia boss from whom people feared, a dangerous killer, merciless monster until she came into the game.I loaded my gun, ready to end what I started when my office doors burst open to show Liam, my right-hand man. He came rushing by my side, panting heavily. A combination o
--------------------- After killing Italian’s leader, Ryker Romano. I marched straight to my office, located on the 2nd floor. This floor contained my office and suite. It was Evan’s before. He loathed the idea of someone going through his stuff and gang’s details. I opened the spare door to my suite and hopped into the second door inside my room, which turned out to be the bathroom. Turning on the water, the white glass sink turned red. I washed my bloodied hands and face. I glared at my reflection in the mirror. I flinched when the face looking back from the mirror was not mine but a girl with pale skin, dark brown hair, and grey emotionless eyes. I didn’t know this girl, but I saw her running in a dark alley in my dreams so many times that I lost count. I never recognized her, but the shiny thing in her hands was something I remembered. I could tell she was running from someone to save her life. I shut my eyes and tried to escape from this horrible nightmare, but

They had gotten what they wanted, so they didn’t need me anymore. To be honest, I would have liked to go back to my room and sleep for days. I hadn’t gotten a wink of sleep for almost a week. Every time I closed my eyes, shadows of nightmares came crawling back to torment me.This time, they were more intense than ever, yet none of them made any sense. All vague images, like pieces of broken glass impossible to reassemble. However, it wasn’t just the little girl this time but also a little boy with her. *Xavier's POV*Giving Romano a ride home didn't turn out as I had speculated.I had to admit, the Queen knew her strategy very well. She had planned every step meticulously. She eliminated the elder Romano while sparing the younger ones. She knew how to instill terror among the populace—a calculated move.Standing in Romano's compound, not a single person dared to raise their head, even though their guns were loaded. She broke the Italians' resolve. They had no choice but to retreat and heed what Riker said as the Mafia Queen's envoy. That's the game they play. No wonder she rose to prominence so swiftly. She understood the game and played it with thoughtfulness. Two days had passed since that incident. As we reached the terrace, I shut the door behind me and took a moment to catch my breath.Damn Lisa and her muggers!I never understood why they couldn’t just focus on the task their parents were paying for: studying. Why not just live and let others live? This was the first time I interfered in college bullies' affairs. It wasn’t like it didn’t affect me seeing Lisa and her gang bully innocent people now and then. I just didn’t want to get involved and attract unnecessary attention, especially since my mother made it clear from day one that she didn’t want our family in the headlines. That was precisely why, despite our wealth, the King family avoided socializing. Angelina King despised us for having a social media profile, even.It may sound crazy, yet it didn’t feel weird at all. It was a small cost to live a normal life, so be it.“Are you… Alright?” I raised my head to look at the source of the voice.I was quite struck by the most alluring brown eyes I had ever seen
