I watch hopelessly how Rain cries, not knowing how to comfort her. Her wail of grief cut deep into my heart. If only I were fast enough… if my hands weren’t damaged… maybe I could have prevented Caleb from being taken by the feral rogues.

“Make sure it is really Caleb,” I ask of Katherine. Then to Kevin, I say, “Stay with them. I am going to make a phone call.”

Jordan keeps his distance. Is that a smile on his face?

I fish my phone from my pocket and dial Tatiana’s number. It is still out of range, as it had been since she left for England. So, I send her an email instead.

Rain is having a mental breakdown, and Kevin and Katherine take her back to the pack. Jordan and I remain with Caleb.

“I guess he was not as strong as everyone thought. Look at how many scars he has. He must have sucked at fighting,” Jordan mocks Caleb.

My fist connects with his face. “Don’t be disrespectful towards the dead,” I snarl. If he says another word, I will rip open his neck.
