Chapter: The Road to Victory

(Simeon's POV)

The night was colder than usual. A bitter blast of wind blew through the open windows of my training hall, but I gave it none. My muscles ached, my breathing was heavy, and sweat dripped from my brow. Yet I would not stop. I could not stop.

I hit the training dummy again, my knuckles slamming into the hard surface. Nelson. His name echoed in my mind. I would have to confront him soon in a battle that would decide everything. Whoever won would take over the other person's territory. That gave me no choice but to win.

I turned, expecting to be alone, but Lily was there staring at me. She had her arms crossed and looked severe.

"You're pushing yourself too hard," she said.

I wiped my face with my arm, sweeping away the sweat. "I have to. You know what we could lose."

Lily stepped nearer. "I do. But wearing yourself out won't help."

I looked at her, seeing the concern in her eyes. She had been with me throughout all of this, and I knew that she

Chapter Title: Trapped in ShadowsLily's POVThe night was quiet, too quiet. The wind whistled through the branches and left the leaves whispering to each other. The sky was a dark inky blackness with only stars blinking down to the world below. I was sitting beside Simeon in his office, the gentle light of the lamp lighting up his face. His jaw was tense, his eyes set on the message that had been brought in."The elders have spoken," Simeon growled, his voice clenched and tense. "Nelson and I fight. The winner takes the other's territory."I leaned back in my seat, interlocking my fingers. "It was what Nelson wanted. He waited for it to happen."Simeon expelled a breath, pulling at his hair. "I know. But I just don't get why now. What switched?"I thought about it. With all the fighting, all the attacks, and all the threats, why did the last showdown happen now? Nelson and Vivian were desperate, but something was amiss. They were too desperate."They have something up their sleeves,"

Lily's POVTrapped Like a PreyPain burned through my wrists as I woke up, my body stiff and sore. My arms were tied behind my back, the rough rope rubbing against my skin. My ankles were also bound, so that I could not move about. The cold air came in contact with my bare flesh, and I shivered down my spine.I lifted my head, blinking in the dim light. The room was small, damp, and smelled of old wood and sweat. A single flickering lightbulb hung from the ceiling, casting grotesque shadows on the walls. My heart pounding, I looked around me. Where was I?There was a slow, mocking clap in the room."Finally awake, are we?"I jerked my head toward the voice, my eyes narrowing. Nelson. He was standing near the doorway, arms crossed, a smirk on his arrogant face.Beside him, Vivian was leaning against the wall, twirling a knife through her fingers. She was amused, as if she were watching some sort of street performance rather than standing in front of someone they'd just kidnapped.I gri

Seeing her like that had made something snap inside of me. I had come close to tearing the entire place apart just to get to her. But before I could, she had freed herself. Now I was waiting. Waiting for her.The door flew open, and my heart halted.Lily was upright, her clothes torn, her face smeared with dirt and dried blood. Her breathing was uneven, her eyes bright with anger and fatigue. Yet despite all that, she was upright. She had made it.I exhaled, my fury momentarily lost to relief. "Lily."She did not say a word. She just looked at me, her eyes searching mine. Then, just when I was about to step closer to her, she swayed. "Lily!" I stepped forward hastil

It was the kind of silence that crawled under my skin, the kind that only came before something terrible was about to go down.I paced before the window, looking out into the darkness, my mind restless. My body screamed with pain as every muscle shrieked from the beating I had received hours earlier, yet I could not possibly lie down. How could I? He was a king heading into battle. His black suit was immaculately tailored, his broad shoulders squared, his piercing eyes icy and focused. But I could s
