Chapter one hundred and six

Smarter

Lily's POV

The rough hand over my mouth was finally withdrawn, and I gasped for air. My lips were dry and my face ached from the tightness with which they had gripped me. I blinked fast, hoping to be able to view the people standing in front of me, but their faces were covered.

They were all wearing black masks and caps, so it was impossible to recognize them. Their clothing was dark, and their eyes were unreadable.

I swallowed hard, grinding my teeth in a bid to keep calm.

"Who are you?" I remarked calmly.

There was no reaction.

I ground my teeth some more. "Fine. You don't feel like talking? Then go ahead and strike me. I do not care. But I do know you took me here for a reason. If it has to do with the leaked confidential documents, then tell me so. Stop stringing me along."

A slap on the cheek.

Pain ran through my face, but I would not make a sound. My skin was burning, but all I could do was softly laugh.

"Is that all?" I breathed. "If you hit

Chapter One Hundred And Seven : Desperate SearchSimeon's POVI was walking back and forth in my office, fists balled. Each passing second and no call from Lily stung like a punch to the chest.I called her. Over twenty times. No reply. Her phone had never gone for so long without a call ringing through before. She always answered at once. Something was amiss.Nelson was sitting at my desk, furiously typing at his laptop as he attempted to pinpoint her last known location. His normally calm demeanor was beginning to crack. He wasn't talking much, but I could see the stress in his shoulders. He was as anxious as I was."Damn it!" I slammed my hand on the desk. "Where the hell is she?"Nelson gasped, massaging his forehead. "I don't know yet. Just give me a second.""A second? Nelson, it's over an hour! We don't have a second!""I know that, Simeon!" he snapped back, glaring at me. "But panicking isn't going to bring her back! We have to be smart here."I massaged my hair in frustration

Chapter One hundred and eight :Trapped in the DarknessLily’s POVMy heart pounded against my ribs as I sat on the cold, hard floor, my wrists burning from the rough rope tied around them. My breathing was shallow, my lips dry, but I forced myself to stay calm.I had sent the message. I had shared my location. Now, I just had to wait. But waiting was torture. The room was dark, with only a dim light flickering from a single bulb hanging from the ceiling. The air was heavy with dust and something metallic—probably blood. The silence was suffocating, broken only by the occasional footsteps of my captors outside the door.I clenched my fists, forcing myself not to cry. Crying wouldn’t save me. Panic wouldn’t help me.I needed to think. They Underestimated MeThe men who kidnapped me thought I was weak. I had let them believe it. I had cried, begged, let them slap me, all while pretending to be scared out of my mind. And I was scared. But fear didn’t mean helplessness.I had to use their

Chapter One hundred and nine: Trapped in the DarkLily's POVThe cold in the room's air gave me shivers down my skin. My head hurt and my legs and hands ached, but that was not important.Because the knife was in front of me.They were really going to do it.I had hoped this was a threat, that they wished to scare me, maybe rough me up a little and let me go. But now, as I gazed at the shining blade of the knife, I knew I had been wrong. This wasn't a joke. This was serious. The man holding the knife smiled as though he was enjoying this. He drew the blade down my arm, the steel cold on my skin, and I shuddered."Do we cut here?" he called out to the others."No," a voice answered. "Let's start somewhere more painful."They laughed, as if this was funny.I swallowed, my heart racing in my chest.A Dangerous GameI had to be brave. If I wept, if I begged, they would enjoy this all the more. I couldn't provide them with that satisfaction.I lifted my chin, looking squarely into the man'

One hundred and twenty : Still in DangerLily's POVThe shiver on my body as I stood outside the warehouse, legs shaking beneath me. My heart still racing, wrists sore from where they had tied me up. Even though I was free now, I still felt trapped, like those masked men were still hiding around, waiting for the right moment to grab me again.Simeon was beside me, his muscles strained, his eyes burning as he watched the police take the kidnappers away. Nelson was explaining to one of the officers what had happened, but I barely heard him. My mind was stuck on the moment when these men had tried to hurt me.The laughter. The callousness. They didn't care if I lived or died.I ought to have felt a relief that it was done with, but I didn't. Something did not feel quite right.Simeon glanced back at me, his voice low. "Lily, you okay?"I shrugged, eager to tell lies, to lie and tell him I was okay. But as I tried to release words, nothing was produced.Rather, I shook my head.He sighed

Chapter One hundred and twenty One: The ArgumentLily's POVThe morning sunlight streamed through the curtains, bathing the room in a warm glow, but doing nothing to lift the heaviness in my chest. I had slept little. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw their faces—the men who kidnapped me, how they laughed, how they looked at me like I was nothing.I shook my head, trying to push the memories away. Today was a different day. I had stuff to do, and I couldn't let fear control me.I took a deep breath, stood, and reached for my phone on the nightstand. While getting ready, there was a knock on the door."Lily," Simeon's voice sounded from the other side.I sighed. I already knew what this was about.I opened the door, and there he stood, arms crossed over his chest, his piercing gaze raking over me. "Where do you think you're going?"I lifted my chin. "To work."His expression darkened. "No, you're not."I rolled my eyes. "Yes, I am, Simeon.""No, you're not," he repeated, stepping into

Chapter 122 Suspicion Lily's POVI was sitting at my desk, trying to focus on the sheet of paper before me, but my mind was restless. The house was too quiet, yet I could feel the weight of unseen eyes on me. It had been this way since morning—an uncomfortable feeling that something was amiss.Simeon had insisted that I stay home, refusing to let me go to work. We had argued about it, and I had tried to get him to see that I wasn't some fragile person who needed to be kept under lock and key. But in the end, I had given in—not because I felt he was right, but because I knew he wasn't going to change his mind even if i sins it, he and Nelson already agreed. Even now, I could hear him walking around downstairs, locking doors, making calls, keeping security around the house tight. Nelson had also joined him, informing me that the ones pursuing me would not let go so easily. But that was not to mean that I was going to just sit here and do nothing.I looked back at my computer, but my

Chapter 123 : Scary MessagesLily’s POVI was sitting on the couch, staring at my phone, when it vibrated in my hand. The sound made me flinch.I hadn't been seeking a message. Not from anyone. Considering all that had happened, every little something felt like a warning, like something was lurking in the shadows, ready to attack.Shaking fingers opened my phone.Unknown NumberMy heart pounded as I hesitated.A half of me didn't want to open it. A half of me wished I could have thrown my phone across the room, pretending I hadn't read it, that everything was fine. But I was smarter than that.I gasped slightly as I tapped the message."You can hide behind Simeon and Nelson all you want, but that won't stop what's coming. Chapter 124 : MissionCara's POVThe room was quiet, but not in a peaceful way. The silence clung between us thick and heavy with tension and unspoken words and exhaustion weighing on all of us like a heavy burden. Only the tick of the clock that loomed on the wall cut through it, every tick sounding like the marking of some inevitable countdown.Nelson leaned back in the couch, rubbing his forehead, his face expressionless but his body language screaming frustration. He was tired. His shoulders were slouched, his usually piercing eyes lackluster with exhaustion. He had slept little in days, and it was starting to catch up with him.Simeon, though, paced back and forth by the window, his jaw clenched. He was always the one who kept it together, the one who would never give in to panic. Even in all that had happened, he was steadfast, trying to keep us from falling apart.I stood next to the table, looking down at my phone. Chapter 155: The Surprise KissPOV: LeoraThe house was quiet that evening. I had just come home from work, but my mind wasn't quiet at all. Everything felt strange nowadays. Camila's message, her deceit, and this wonderful scheme we were all cooking up—it was all so much to handle sometimes. I was tired, but I couldn't get Nelson out of my head. He worried all day long. I knew his heart was soft, and no matter how hard he tried to be macho, I could see through him.I went to the kitchen and made him a hot drink—ginger and honey tea, his favorite way. I did not know why I was doing this, but something inside me told me he needed comfort. Maybe I also needed a reason to sit next to him, just this once. I told myself that it was nothing serious. I just wanted to talk. When I opened the door, he was over at the foot of his bed. His face was crumpled downwards, his hand grasping his phone. I noticed that he was re-reading Camila's message. I stood quietly at the entrance for a moment."Ne

Chapter Title: She Must Not ComePOV: LilySimple English | Very Long | Emotional & SuspensefulI was in the living room, laughing with Leora. We were talking about a movie that we all watched the night before. It was funny and confusing at the same time. Nelson was in the kitchen, trying to warm up the leftovers. Simeon was reading something on his phone and drinking tea.Leora smiled and continued, "That time when the man stormed into the wedding with the incorrect trousers still makes me laugh!"I laughed too. "And the woman fainted! I did not even know if she was pretending or not!"Simeon smiled but did not say anything. He was subdued. Then Nelson's phone beeped. He looked at it and stiffened right away. His smile disappeared. He stared at the screen for a long time.Simeon noticed. "What is it?"Nelson didn't answer. He just handed the phone to Simeon.I turned back to look. "What happened?"Simeon read slowly from the message."Hi Nelson. I'm fine now. I've missed you. I want

Chapter 154 : The Picture That Changed EverythingLily's POVThe afternoon sun cast a warm glow through the windows as we remained in the living room. Simeon was on the phone, fingers moving quickly. Nelson was across from him, looking at the floor, while Leora had a sip of tea in silence next to me.Simeon's phone suddenly buzzed. He looked at the screen, and his face immediately altered."Deji just sent something," he said, voice tight. He opened the message and we all clustered in silence. The picture revealed a woman at the hospital reception speaking to the receptionists. My heart jumped."That's… Camila," I gasped, recognizing her immediately."What? Let me see," Nelson's head snapped up.He grabbed the phone from Simeon and looked at the photo. "No, it can't be. She told me she was at home the entire time."Leora leaned in closer. "Are you sure it's her?"Simeon nodded. "Deji explained to me that she was attempting to convince the hospital staff to report Camila was taken in if

  • From Lies To Love   Clue

Chapter One hundred and fifty three : The Hospital ClueDeji’s POVI ventured out in the early morning. The message we had gotten last night did not escape my mind. Camila was supposed to be at the hospital. Redhill Hospital. But we all knew that it was a trap. Nelson had come very close to going, but we discouraged him. Now it was my turn to check out the facts.I just wore jeans and a shirt. I did not want to be noticed. My phone was charged, and I had a small camera in my backpack in case. I rode a bike to the hospital so I could go fast and unnoticed.Redhill Hospital was massive. Very clean. Nurses hurried in and out, patients wandered about, and there was a hint of medicine in the air. I walked straight to the reception desk. There was a woman in her late forties at the desk. She wore glasses and was weary-looking but pleasant."Good morning, ma," I said to her with a grin. She looked up and smiled at me. "Good morning. How can I help you?"I tried to remain calm. "Please, I'm l

  • From Lies To Love   My brother and I

Chapter One hundred and fifty two : Just the Two of Us(Lily's POV)I had just cooked. The aroma filled the whole kitchen—grilled chicken, spicy sauce, and fried rice, Nelson's favorite. I had observed he was quiet of late. He did not laugh as much, did not smile as much. Since that message regarding Camila and the faked emergency, I knew he was troubled. Maybe food could get him to open up.I laid the food daintily on a tray and entered the living room where he sat on the couch, looking at his phone. The TV was on but he wasn't watching it. "Hey," I spoke softly with a smile. "I made your favorite."He looked up and a small smile appeared on his face. "Thanks, Lily. You always know what I need."I sat beside him and gave him the tray. He started to eat slowly. We didn't say a word for a couple of minutes. Just the muted sound of the spoon and the quiet hum from the TV. Then I took a good look at him. He looked weary—not just physically, but also in his heart."Nelson," I said slowly

  • From Lies To Love   A New Plan

Chapter One hundred and fifty one— A New PlanWe all sat in the lounge, quiet and thinking. The message still echoed in my head:"Camila is in Redhill Hospital. Emergency. Come quick."But we knew something was wrong. Simeon had checked. Camila hadn't sent it. The number was hidden. It was a trap. And now we had to think carefully.Simeon stood by the window, arms crossed. Nelson sat on the sofa, head bowed, deep in thought. I placed a cup of tea in front of them. No one touched it.I broke the silence."So… what do we do now?"Simeon turned round slowly. "They think we're stupid. That we'll charge into danger without asking questions."Nelson raised his head. "But it could still be true. What if Camila is really hurt?"I sighed. "I know. But we did look. The hospital did not have her as a patient. Simeon's contact said no one with her description was admitted."Nelson rubbed his face. "This is all too much."Simeon moved closer and sat beside me. "Nelson, you like her. That's okay. B

Chpater Pne hundred and Fity : A Message That Changed EverythingLily's POVI went to clear the plates after we ate. Everybody had loved the food. I had cooked peppered chicken and served with fried rice and served it with cold drinks. Leora helped clear the table as Nelson and Simeon sat in the living room, chatting softly. The house was quiet, warm, and peaceful. For the first time in a very long while, I felt relaxed. I even smiled a little when washing the plates. But that peace didn't last."Lily!" Nelson's voice cracked.I rushed to wipe my hands and followed him out. I saw him standing with his phone, his face with worry. Simeon was standing next to him, gazing at the screen as well."What's happening?" I asked, my heart starting to thump."It's a message," Nelson said. His voice was low. "Someone sent me this."He gave me the phone.I read it out loud:"Camila is in danger. She's been kidnapped. Chapter: The Emergency MessageI had just prepared the food. The smell of fried rice and chicken with pepper filled the kitchen with a savory aroma as I gingerly placed the final plate on the dining table. It was a peaceful night—one of those rare moments when we could all sit together and have a meal without stress.Simeon was already seated, his sleeves rolled up as he leaned back in his chair. Nelson was scrolling through his phone, and Leora had just come down from her room, looking tired but smiling.“Wow, Lily,” Leora said, sitting beside me. “This smells so good. You’re really spoiling us.”I smiled, wiping my hands on a napkin. “You all deserve it. It’s been a long week.”We all sat down and started eating. The food was hot, and everyone appeared to be in a calm mood. Even Simeon, who was always preoccupied with something, appeared to be enjoying a moment of peace."This is great," Nelson said, his fork stabbing into his chicken. "You've done a great job, Lily."I smiled gentl

  • From Lies To Love   A Quiet Evening Together

Chapter 148: A Quiet Evening TogetherIt was an odd moment. Nelson and Liora were out, and the house was quiet. The normal business chaos, the plans, and the anxiety were all forgotten for the sake of a moment. I had been cooking for my day, something that I no longer had time for. I prepared a simple dinner—nothing fancy, merely some pasta, some salad, and some bread. But the smell of cooked food permeated the house, and I couldn't help but feel a little proud of the meal that I had prepared.I put on a loose dress, one that I usually reserved for times when I needed to unwind. Soft and unadorned, it was the perfect dress for an evening in. I had no idea why, but tonight felt different. Maybe it was because we were alone, the two of us. Maybe it was because, for the first time in what felt like an eternity, I could breathe.I walked into the living room where Simeon was, organizing some papers. His usual composed self was there, but his gaze was on me when I walked in. When eyes met,
