ALPHA XANDER’S POV“Who the fuck is dead, Donovan?” I growl, my hands balling into tight fists.“Calm down, man.” He raises his hands up in surrender. He sees that I’m not in the mood for jokes and he sighs, runs his hands through his hair before finally speaking. “Khai.”I throw my head back and curse. I wasn’t fucking done talking to him, but I felt so much better for some reason knowing it wasn’t that damned Aiden that was dead. I know Adriana will take it a hard way and I have no idea how to explain it wasn’t some fucked up plan to kill him under the guise of it being a fight. I’m surprised by my own thoughts because I should be worried that the only person that has the information on Adriana’s mother is dead.“Fuck,” I groan. Closing my eyes.“Why did you want him alive anyways? I thought he was with the rest of the pack and you killed off all of them?” I nod, then shake my head when his questions fully register in my head.“No, he isn’t part of them.” He looks confused, I exhale
ALPHA XANDER’S POVI knew something was wrong the moment we stepped into the dungeon. There were blood smudges on the wall, a few pieces of someone’s insides that I don’t really want to make out what they are on the dirty bloody ground.“This is a fucking massacre,” Donovan mutters from behind me, he walks further and fans his hand over his face. Trying to get rid of the metallic smell of blood and the dark smell of death in the air.I can’t help but agree. The sight was gore and if I haven’t seen worse, I would have had trouble sleeping tonight. “Something isn’t right with all of this,”“It’s too wild for the man?” Donovan asks, his brows creasing. I shake my head and purse my lips, looking down at my feet where a piece of clothing lay, from a cloth being torn definitely.“No, it’s a little too convenient.” I mutter, crouching to pick it up. I hold it between two fingers and immediately smell a wolf on it. “Did they clean Aiden up?” I ask, looking up at Donovan who was looking at me
ADRIANA’S POVDaciana’s idea for the perfect distraction is to drink ourselves to oblivion then go shopping. After breakfast, she forced me to change into something more outing material. I stared at her like she grew two heads and when she saw I was not understanding what she was saying, she pushed herself into my closet and came out with a red shimmery dress I didn’t know existed.“Come on, you’ll look great in it.” she assured, giving it to me. I stared at it, a little cautious and she laughed. “It’s a dress Adriana, come on. We don’t have all day.” I look at the clock on my bedside that said it was barely ten in the morning, then I sigh and enter the closet to change.Daciana doesn’t give me shit for not changing in front of her and I appreciate her for it, more than she could ever know. When I put on the dress, my eyes immediately widen when I see it stops just below my mid-thigh and it is skin tight. It almost looks like it was sewn on my body, it leaves almost nothing to the ima
ADRIANA’S POVI almost jump out of the seat and throw myself at Aiden before I realize that is impossible so I settle for a little sit up and just jump excitedly in my seat.“Aiden, oh my God. I can’t believe you’re here, I can’t believe you’re okay.” A sob threatens to break out of my lips. I reach out and hold his hand, the only thing I’m able to do from here.“How, how did this happen?” I ask no one in particular, still keeping my eyes on Aiden like if I turn he would disappear. I feel like he would.“Lady Daciana helped me,” she clears her throat and laughs.“Please call me Daciana. The lady makes me feel like an old woman,” she winks at me when I turn to face her. I chuckle, tears rolling down my cheeks. It feels surreal, I feel like I’m dreaming looking at Aiden in the front seat, looking completely healthy and unharmed. The last time I saw him, he was on the brink of death. I’ll never be able to get rid of that image from my head. It makes guilt eat at my insides, knowing the m
ALPHA XANDER’S POV“Then how the fuck did he get out?” the words come out as a growl. Donovan, who obviously did not have a reply to my question, only stood staring at me with a blank expression, though his jaw is clenched showing just how equally angry he is.We’ve been sitting here trying to figure out how two prisoners magically got out of their cells, faked a death and then left the pack, all without being tracked or noticed. Khai I could say is more understandable because he doesn’t even have a scent, so he can’t be traced. Aiden, not so much. And he hasn’t healed enough to even be able to pull that shit off. But now that I think about it, the whole fight seems to be a fucking ruse too.The hospital has no idea how he escaped either, the doctors said he was pretty badly bruised when he was brought in and they doubted he would make it. They sedated him and left after making sure he was fine, only to come back to an empty room. And since it is known that he is a prisoner, they all
ADRIANA’S POVThere is this feeling, when you know you did something wrong and you’re caught, and you just kind of panic. There are two things that can happen, either you think smart and act smart, or you dumb down and freeze, your eyes wide like a deer caught in headlights. It’s not hard to guess which one my body decided to do when I saw Xander enter the bar an hour after we did.“Oh fuck,” Daciana murmurs under her breath as her eyes land on her brother. “So much for lowkey.” She doesn’t back down from the glare he is shooting her way. I’m grateful that wasn’t directed at me, I would have crumbled even before he spoke.“Daciana,” Donovan said, standing beside Xander. He shakes his head in disappointment. That seems to break the terse silence in the whole bar. Everyone is watching the scene, waiting to see what Xander’s next move will be. They all know him from their reactions, it’s no surprise to see them minding their own business. I mean, I would too if I were in their shoes.Xan
ADRIANA’S POVI sit still even when Xander parks the car when we get to the house. His hand hasn’t left my thigh and it is scalding hot on my skin, I wouldn’t be surprised if I find his hand print there after he lifts it.He is still seething beside me, his anger filling the enclosed space. I guess I’ve never really noted just how big he is and how very different we are until now. He gives my thigh one last squeeze before removing his hand. I instantly feel like I can breathe again. It doesn’t last long because he speaks.“Go now,” he tilts his head toward the house. I lift my head and give him a small nod then move my hand to the doorknob, but before I can feel it, he grabs my other hand, forcing me to sit back and turn to face him. His brows are pulled together, his lips tight with a frown and there’s that heat that makes my skin prickle, in his eyes.Overall I’m surprised because I’m not as scared as I would have thought I would be when I’m locked in a small car with Xander.“Don’t
ALPHA XANDER’S POV“What were you telling her?” I ask Donovan as soon as he gets into the car, he grumbles under his breath and turns away from me.“Nothing important.” He finally replies when I ask him to repeat himself. That answer doesn’t sit well with me of course and he sees it well written on my face, he ignores it expectedly.“Don’t make me ask again. What did you tell her?” my voice comes out slower, so he can know how very serious I am. I could just ask her and it would be easier, but I doubt she will tell me the truth. She is terrified of Donovan and with good reason, he seems intimidating and terrible to people who don’t know him, but he isn’t as he likes to make himself out to be.“Told her what she needed to hear.”“Donovan,” the word comes out with a warning growl. I start the car and drive out of the house, going at a speed that should only be allowed on the highway.“I reminded her how important it is for her to not act stupid. If anything happens to her, you’ll be dis
