Damian’s POV
I stood inside the room with all the supposed leaders of our supposed pack. Each of them had a look of seriousness on their face as I came inside. “Are we leaving now?” I asked as I looked around the room. A boy with red hair grunted as he stood with the flame flickering from his movements. “Not yet, as we are waiting for when it is closest for the rain to pour. That is the moment humans stay inside more.” “But that isn’t the reason you called me here, Dennis,” I said, realizing even before them of their plan. “You are the only one who associates with her,” He said, looking around the room like everyone inside had the discussion already. “She helped us escape when the humans attacked our former hideout two years ago, yet we all ostracized her because she has never transformed,” I said, gritting my teeth. Dennis heaved a sigh. “She is not one of us until she transforms, Damian. Even she would slow us down when we try to escape.” “You should have her stay behind with the young ones if you don’t trust her capabilities,” I said, fuming at how easily they had concluded. “That is not what we mean.” another boy with blonde hair stood — Pharrell was his name and he was a beta just like Dennis, but his blood purity was lesser. “I will take care of her in this raid, if that is what you want,” I said as I swung my hand in the air. Dennis heaved a deep breath as the other members of their group standing with him. “Then this is settled.” I nodded, moving out of the room before them. “Is it time to leave?” Elsa asked as she saw me coming outside of the castle. I nodded as I placed my hoodie over my head, helping her cover her head as well. Dennis stood in front of us, looking around at the people present. “Everyone should get back home safe and without being tracked. That is the only word I can say,” he said as he turned around. We moved out with our sights on the closest village less than four hours close to our camp with the rain drizzling. It was a wonder the people still had not noticed us. Probably out of fear, or it was our luck as we got closer. The village was quiet, with Dennis giving direction to everyone. We moved out according to our direction. I went with Elsa, braking into a barn filled with chickens. I smiled as I took two chickens, giving it to Elsa while I took some for myself. “Thief!” someone screamed as we stepped out of the barn. Cries of thief suddenly changed to shout of wolves. I turned to Elsa, seeing the fear on her face. “Run,” I mouthed to her with the both of running towards the forest. Lights flickered on over the little town as we made away with as much animals as we could get from their farms. “After those damned werewolves!” Screams came out of the house as they chased at us. I could see my friends morph, escaping swiftly through the village while I held on to Elsa. Fear enveloped me, knowing there was no way I could take her on me as the villager rounded us as the only ones who hadn’t escaped yet. “What do I do?” I asked myself as we broke through into a corn farm, separating while we ran. “Fuck!” I cursed, knowing I could not call her name without them realizing where she was. Leaves rustled some distance away, and I could tell it was her, but I could not call out to her, walking closer to reach her. “They are in the corn plantation!” someone screamed. I felt my heart leap as I stood at a place. If I transformed; I could escape, but that would involve me leaving Elsa to the humans. The chase continued, stopping after a while, with dogs barking and men muttering. “Elsa,” I muttered as followed the sound of the barking dogs, watching as the flames flickered with the men surrounding her. “Are you a werewolf like them, or you are one of us?” They asked her as they cornered her. I fell back to the ground, gasping for air, as I did not know what to do. “She seams to be one of them. Let’s take her with us. Maybe she would tell us the truth,” another voice said. “I have to help her,” I said to myself as I readied myself to transform, when I heard shrieks of terror. Elsa growled at the men with her body transforming. I was startled as I watched her changed, moving when I realized they would kill her. “Run!” I screamed, transforming to my wolf's form as I stepped out of my hideout to take their attention when I saw blood splash in the air. She growled, dropping to the ground after the people ran away with one of them dead at Elsa's feet. I swallowed hard as I reached to her side. “How could you pass out from just transforming?” I asked myself as placed her on my back, transforming before they could regroup and come for us. “You are a wolf,” I muttered as I ran across the field, heading back for the castle before they could track our scent. The rains were another reason we raided when it fell, as it would wash our scents away. “They made it back,” a voice said as they saw me return with Elsa, with her retreating wolf attributes. I was happy, for saving her life and also the look in their faces. Now they had to accept her fully for who she was and not what they thought she was. “Give me that,” I said as I dragged a coat from someone, realizing she was naked and she had no extra clothes with her. Dennis nodded his head at me, causing the crowd to give me the chance to take her inside. I nodded at him as I carried her in my arms, heading to her room. I could feel my heart beating as I stared at her lovely face, unaware of what was happening. I could tell I felt something for this girl in my arms, but I had to make sure she felt the same way for me as well. I sighed, shaking the thought from my head as I dropped her on her bed while I waited for her to wake. “Where am I?” she asked as her eyes flickered open. Her hands flailed in the air with fear in her eyes. I rushed to her side, holding her still. “It’s Damian,” I whispered as I tried to calm her. “Damian?” she repeated my name as she fell into my hands, sobbing. I understood her fears, as she was close to losing her life with those humans around her. “I’m never leaving your side. Never again,” I said, wrapping my hands firmly around her.Damien’s POVThe morning sun broke through the canopy, scattering golden light across the clearing. It was as if the forest itself had exhaled after so many months of tension. I stood at the edge of the camp, watching as the pack moved about, their steps lighter than they had been in weeks. Conversations were punctuated with laughter, and there was a spark of life in their eyes. For the first time in what felt like forever, hope wasn’t just a distant dream—it was here, tangible and alive. But even as I took in the scene, my instincts remained sharp. The Shadow Council was gone, but their remnants—the shadow wolves—still posed a threat. Callan’s warning from the Northern Ridge had lingered in my mind since the day he arrived. The shadow wolves were regrouping, recruiting smaller, defenseless packs. We’d formed an alliance with the Northern Ridge pack and two others since then. Together, we had created a network of patrols, shared resources, and fortified borders. It wasn’t perfect, but
Elsa’s POVThe forest was quiet, save for the rustling of leaves in the cool night breeze. The campfire in the center of the clearing had dimmed to glowing embers, casting soft shadows on the ground. Most of the pack had retired for the night, their exhaustion from the day’s events finally catching up with them. But I couldn’t sleep. The weight of everything sat heavy on my chest—the lives lost, the responsibilities waiting for me, and the knowledge that the shadow wolves weren’t truly gone. Tonight, I felt like the battle had only shifted, morphing into something more insidious.I stood at the edge of the camp, staring out into the dark expanse of trees. The silence should have been comforting, but it only amplified the noise in my head.“Elsa.”I turned at the sound of Damien’s voice. He approached me quietly, his golden eyes glowing softly in the dim light. He looked as tired as I felt, but his presence carried a steadiness that I desperately needed.“You should be resting,” he sai
Damien’s POVThe aftermath of the battle hung heavy in the air, even as the light of dawn painted the forest in shades of gold and amber. Wolves moved through the clearing, tending to the wounded and collecting the bodies of the fallen. There was no celebration, only quiet resolve and somber reflection.Elsa stood near the falls, her silver hair catching the soft light of morning. She was staring out at the water, her arms crossed tightly over her chest. From where I stood, I could see the weight pressing down on her shoulders, the burden of every decision she had made in the last few weeks.I wanted to go to her, to tell her she didn’t have to bear it all alone, but I hesitated. Elsa had always been strong—resilient in a way that inspired everyone around her. But now, her strength seemed to be tearing at her, leaving her raw and vulnerable.Lyra appeared at my side, her quiet presence grounding me. She looked as exhausted as the rest of us, her dark hair falling loose over her should
Elsa's POV Echoes of the Scout's ominous words in my mind suddenly a warning that makes my blood run incredibly cold. Dark silhouettes of wolves emerge from murky twilight shadows. Even after the fall of Shadow Council dark remnants lingered silently beneath the surface waiting for the perfect moment to launch a surprise attack. Damien stood tall beside me, his golden eyes sharp and intensely focused underneath dim lighting. Darkness surrounded us and murky silhouettes murmured softly beneath faint moonlight that filtered through icy night air. I drew a deep breath inward slowly forcing myself to remain calm. They require my leadership skills now rather than see me utterly fail.“How far are they?” Damien asked the scout, his tone clipped.Damien asked the scout how far they were, his voice low and curt suddenly.“A mile or two… maybe less. Scout staggered forward slowly, exhaustion making his legs wobble badly under him.“We need to act quickly. A mile roughly or maybe a bit less than
Damien's povThe moon hangs high above trees beneath a silver glow that spreads over camp. Whispering Falls murmured softly beyond a nearby hill, its gentle hum soothing my frazzled mind completely. Tonight peace felt eerily distant somehow. I stood near the edge of a clearing watching wolves from various packs work together in a surprisingly harmonious fashion. It was a sight I never thought I'd see yet here it was somehow holding strong under circumstances. Elsa sat by fire, her head resting deeply in her hands surrounded by faint shadows. She looked utterly spent beneath the weight of all we worked tirelessly toward which pressed heavily on her narrow shoulders. Tension abruptly seized my chest upon catching sight of her faintly smiling face. She lugged an absurd amount more than anyone should bear. I moved silently across open space, my footsteps deliberately slow. As I reached her suddenly her pale blue eyes reflected flickering flames in dim light.“You’re supposed to be resting,
Elsa’s POVThe forest was still, save for the occasional rustle of leaves in the gentle wind. The calm was deceptive, though—it felt as if the world was holding its breath, waiting for the next challenge to unfold. I stood by the edge of the Whispering Falls, my fingers trailing through the cold water. Familiarity stared back at me from a face that looked somewhat different now somehow. My face had sharp cheekbones, a stubborn jaw and eyes that gave away pretty much everything but weight in my gaze felt different now. The battles, the loss, the responsibilities, they had all left their mark.“Elsa.”I didn’t need to turn to know who it was. I didn't need to turn around abruptly in a swift motion knowing full well it was Elsa standing behind me. Damien's voice remained steadily present, somehow grounding me deeply in unexpected ways.“You’ve been quiet today,” he said softly, his golden eyes studying me.He walked up beside me, his footsteps silent on the damp grass. He spoke softly, his
