Chapter 1

I am Sarah Lewis, the most unpopular and unloved girl in college. How pathetic is it in today's times if you wear glasses, don't use make-up, your clothes are not branded and fashionable, and you don't have any bad habits like smoking and drinking? You will be known as a nerd.

But what does it matter? I am not one of those rich, spoiled brats, so I am happy with the tag of nerd. But what happens when your heart falls on some spoiled rich boy?

Julia said, "Sarah, in a few months we will graduate and live our lives, and maybe we won't see each other, so this is your chance; go and tell him.

Sarah said, “He is Nicholas Hill, the son of the trustee of this college and the most famous boy. What if he rejects me in front of everyone?" I show my concern, but Julia drags me toward our classroom. She gives me a red rose and pushes me toward him, and here he is sitting with his friends. I looked at him; he was playing guitar. How nice it is. I fell for his smile, his blue eyes and black hair, his handsome face, and his talent. This man had the full package that any girl could want. As we approached Nicholas, my heart raced with nerves. Despite my fears of rejection, I knew I had to take this chance and tell him how I felt. Nicholas smiled warmly at me, and in that moment, I knew I had made the right decision.

Julia said, “Hey, Nicholas! She wants to say something." She shouted, and

Sarah said, “Bi*ch! I curse her in my mind; she shouts so loudly, which grabs everyone’s attention.

Nicholas, look at me. I am so nervous because of his sharp gaze. I was standing in front of him.

Sarah said, “Um, I... I want to say something." The whole class looks at me like I am kind of alien." I gather all my courage and continue, "I... like you... Will you go on a date with me?" I give him that, Rose.

He frowned, then looked at the rose, and then looked at my face. The atmosphere was as if someone had dropped an atomic bomb.

The tension in the room was palpable as Nicholas processed my confession. His eyes darted between me and the rose in his hand, his expression unreadable. I held my breath, waiting for his response, my heart pounding in my chest. The silence stretched on, the weight of his answer hanging in the air like a heavy fog.

I didn’t dare look at his face because my face turned red with shyness. It was like my body had a mind of its own, betraying me at the most inconvenient times.

Then I heard his laugh. I was confused, and then I heard the whole class laughing. I touch my face in confusion. I look at him, and he is laughing so hard. What have I done? This is confusing.

He took the rose from my hand, crushed it, and threw it on my face. Yes, my face...

My face was burning with embarrassment as I tried to process what had just happened.

Nicholas said, “Did you ever see your face in the mirror? You nerd, I will date a girl like you... How do you even think that? Jesus, go and check your face in the mirror. No one wants to date a girl like you. And your sticky hair... And, ah, look, she had a dark circle also... He laughs again, which makes everyone laugh.

I really want to die in shame. He rejected me that too brutally; not even this, he insulated me in front of the whole class. He could simply reject it. Why insult? How will I face them again? Tears fall from my eyes, and I look at him with teary eyes, then I run from there. It's going to be so difficult to show my face again.

************************

Everything changed after that day. Someone made a video where Nicholas insulted everyone, including the boy whom I once loved. Everyone makes fun of me and talks nonsense about me. I heard everything they said but tried to ignore it. I can't go to this college. Because it's only 3 months left for our final exams, I started wearing hoodies, masks, and goggles all the time to avoid their eyes. My small mistake is ruining my life now. Not only my life but also that of my family.
