Fire swarmed around the area as smoke billowed heavily, making breathing impossible. The little girl huddled in a corner crying. Her hands, which were balled into fists, were covered in blood from a fruitless struggle for freedom.
Her throat, which was dry and sore from screaming, had begun to feel hot and dry. The feeling was beginning to become unbearable for the little girl as she tried swallowing again and again, but that didn’t help.
"Please…" the little girl rasped as she pulled her knees closer to her chest. "Mommy, daddy, please… I’ll be good."
The words came out in barely a whisper as the girl's eyes began to burn from the smoke that was beginning to fill the room. It wouldn’t be much longer before the entire space caught fire, ending the girl's life.
Feeling all hope disappear, she closed her eyes and prepared for the worst as heat pressed against her skin.
Amelia sat up quickly, her eyes wide open, her heart pounding in her chest as she tried to catch her breath. Sweat covered her porcelain skin, causing her strawberry blonde hair to stick to her cheeks in tufts.
"Just a dream." Amelia murmured as she tried to compose herself.
The room around her was still dark as the sun hadn’t quite begun to rise just yet. On either side of her, Jacey and Amanda slept peacefully in their beds, both oblivious to the torrent of emotions that were burning within Amelia.
Unable to fall back to sleep, Amelia quickly got out of bed, heading towards the communal shower. The halls beyond the dorms were empty and silent. A soft white light glowed, lighting the pictures of the Goddess Mediocris watching over the lands and permeating them with her healing light.
Just from the sight of the Goddess, Amelia could feel her heart and thoughts beginning to settle. Even if the world around her were to fall apart, her faith and love for the Goddess would always keep her going.
Stopping Amelia, fixed her gaze on Mediocris. Placing her hands before her, she said a quick prayer in the way of a morning greeting. Although she would be doing so later with the rest of the sister’s, it never hurt to say one extra for good measure.
"May peace and light wash over this land, in your name, amen." Amelia finished smiling as she turned and hurried along her way.
"Our Goddess Mediocris, we praise thee." Sister Rosario’s voice echoed around the chapel. "Bring forth your light and let it wash down on all of us sinners. Let it bless those in its path, let it heal our illnesses, let it bring peace across the land of Pacificus."
"In your name we pray, amen." The congregation echoed before rising.
“Remember girls!” Sister Rosario called drawing everyone’s attention. “We need to be extra diligent these next few days. The purple moon is fast approaching.”
Amelia felt a shiver run down her spine. The purple moon, the day that the Succubus were supposed to wander away from their mountain to feed. It was also the day that they would reproduce, a tradition that the Succubi had followed for years.
The Kingdom of Vi was a peaceful place, only because the Werewolves and Succubus remained in their respective areas, except on special occasions. For as long as Amelia could remember she had been warned about these creatures, they were evil and wouldn’t hesitate to kill a human if they ventured too far. That was why it was so important that humans remained locked within the walls of the kingdom. The furthest they were allowed to venture was to the land of Pacificus, the area that the Church of Lux Solis resided in, Amelia’s home.
Letting another shiver run through her, Amelia attempted to push aside thoughts of the supernaturals, they were disgusting creatures that all deserved to die. Thankfully the hunters were making sure that would eventually come to be a reality.
“With that said, have fun at the festival!” Sister Rosario finished smiling. “Do come back early, just because you are allowed out for fun does not mean that your chores and prayer sessions tomorrow are cancelled.”
"Amelia!" Amanda called out, rushing up to Amelia as she got up from her seat. "Are you going to wear what you’re in? You aren’t going to change? We are supposed to be leaving soon!"
"Leaving?" Amelia asked in confusion. "What do you mean by leaving soon?"
Looking down she took in the simple white dress she was currently wearing. It was the standard outfit of nun’s. What exactly was wrong with what she was wearing, in the convent it was normal? And what did Amanda mean by leaving soon?
As far as she could remember, she didn’t have any plans with Amanda. Amelia had expected to simply stay in and pass her 18th birthday in the peace of the convent, surrounded by those she cared about the most.
"Don’t tell me you already forgot." Amanda huffed, placing her hands on her hips.
"What is it that I was supposed to have forgotten?" Amelia asked, genuinely confused.
"THE FESTIVAL!" Amanda squealed, eyes growing bright with excitement. "Sister Rosario has given all of us permission to go out and enjoy ourselves to celebrate the Goddess Medicoris! We are also going to celebrate your 18th birthday! How lucky to have the Goddess’ festival fall on your birthday. This must mean that you are holy as well, what a lucky woman you are!”
"Oh right…" Amelia murmured.
Now that she thought about it, she did vaguely remember Amanda mentioning this a few days prior, but after that nightmare she had, her brain was still quite a mess.
"Go get ready then!" Amanda sighed, placing her hands on Amelia’s back and beginning to push. "Time waits for no man!"
"It is still light out." Amelia pointed out, looking over her shoulder at her friend who was steadily pushing her along. "You’re acting like we won’t have any time."
"If you don’t hurry up, we won’t." Amanda countered as they reached the dorms.
Taking no time at all, Amelia quickly got changed as she felt her excitement begin to grow. The festival of the Goddess Mediocris happened once every five years. The last time it had happened, Amelia fell ill and was unable to attend, so this time was somewhat of a makeup for what she had missed.
Heading back out, she found Jacey and Amanda waiting for her with big smiles on their faces. Smiling, Amelia wrapped her arms around her friends and allowed them to lead her out into the crisp autumn air beyond.
Out in the streets, families hurriedly moved forward towards the center of town, where vendors and game booths had been set up. A group of musicians sat in the middle of the street playing an upbeat song while children danced around them laughing. By the looks of it, the entire town had come out to celebrate, a sight that immediately left Amelia feeling warm.
"Come on, I want to get a candied apple." Jacey announced, pointing to a man that was selling the delicious treats.
"Let’s…." Amelia began as something caught the corner of her eye.
Turning her head ever so slightly, she found herself staring straight into the piercing green eyes of a woman that looked exactly like her, only a her that was much more mature and sophisticated.
Smiling, the woman lifted her hand to her lips and blew a kiss to Amelia, a gesture that sent a chill up Amelia’s spine. Winking the woman allowed a group of men to pass in front of her, obscuring her from sight entirely.
"Who…." She tried as Amanda touched her arm.
"Amelia, what’s wrong?" Amanda murmured, her voice full of concern. "You were just about to say something when you froze."
"You didn’t see her?" Amelia asked, whirling around trying to locate the woman that was now gone. "She was just right here."
"Who?" Jacey asked, looking at the people that milled around them. "No one was here, Amelia. Are you sure you’re alright?"
Feeling slightly off kilter, Amelia nodded, plastering a smile on her face for her friends. Maybe she had been seeing things. After all, she had woken up quite early and could just be growing tired.
"Yeah, I’m okay." Amelia assured Amanda. "Jacey wanted a candied apple, right?"
Once there, Jacey and Amanda busied themselves with the vendor while Amelia stood to the side looking around. Goosebumps had begun to grow on her arms and she wasn’t quite sure if it was because of the chill, or if it was something else.
"Aaaammmmeeeeelllllllllliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiaaaaaaaaa."
The haunting yet hypnotic voice drifted through the wind like a soft lullaby to Amelia’s ears. Turning, she tried to find the source of the voice.
"Aaaaammmmeeeeellllllllliiiiiiiiiiiiaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa."
"Who?" Amelia asked as she continued to search before her eyes came to rest on the same woman she had seen earlier.
Smiling, the woman wrapped an arm around a half drunk woman that stood in front of her, talking animatedly with a man. The woman seemed oblivious to the hands that were caressing her neck and stomach. It was almost as if she wasn’t there at all.
Winking, the woman licked the side of the woman’s face before vanishing entirely. Feeling her heart plummet to her feet, Amelia let out a shriek.
"DEMON!!!"
After the incident at the festival, Amelia was forced to stay in her room. The other sisters thought that maybe she was simply exhausted from too much work, but Amelia knew that wasn’t true. What she had seen was real, whether they believed her or not didn’t change that fact.Ever since returning home that evening, she continued to see the woman. She would be in the chapel, sitting on the very back pew, smiling from ear to ear while motioning provocatively to Amelia. Or in the halls as Amelia would head somewhere, the library, the dorms, she was everywhere. And every time the woman appeared, Amelia would feel an odd thirst that left her gasping. Nothing she did could satiate it, and the longer it lasted, the farther it traveled down her throat and into her stomach, leaving a line of fire blazing within. After seeing the woman one too man
Sister Rosario’s mouth hung open in a silent show of ecstasy. Her hands caressed Amelia’s face and neck tenderly, as Amelia’s hands wandered around underneath the woman’s hiked-up dress.Amelia wasn’t quite sure how she knew what to do, but it was like second nature running a hand along Sister Rosario’s thigh up to the edge of her tights. Pulling, she easily lowered one before the other, wanting them fully out of the way."Your skin is so tender, Sister Rosario." Amelia murmured nipping at the woman’s ear.Beneath her touch, Sister Rosario convulsed, sending a wave of white light rushing towards Amelia. Bending down, Amelia placed her mouth against the woman’s once more, allowing the light to enter her."Delicious." A
Chills of fear and hunger ran through Amelia’s body. The hunters had been brought into this. Hunters were cruel and ruthless men that were both feared and respected. Raised from youth to be elite killers, the hunters bore no emotions. The only thing that they knew was to kill or be killed. If the hunters were being enlisted to take care of Amelia, that meant that there was no possibility of her making it out of this alive.Feeling a sob build within her, Amelia curled in on herself even more. Fresh tears began to well up in her eyes before spilling down her cheeks as she gasped for air."Crying will get you nowhere."Startled, Amelia lifted her head to see who had spoken. One of the guards that had locked her away had returned, and the
Albert remained unmoving as Amelia closed the distance between them. Reaching her arms up, she allowed them to wrap sensually around his neck before pulling him closer to her."You smell wonderful." Amelia whispered, leaning in close to Albert’s ear. "My mouth is already watering."A shiver of pleasure ran through Albert as Amelia allowed her teeth to graze against his earlobe, as a low groan escaped his full lips."For someone who hates monsters so much." Amelia giggled as she nipped at Albert’s neck. "You seem to be enjoying yourself."Groaning Albert grabbed the back of Amelia’s hair, pulling just enough so he could gain access to jaw. Moving his mouth closer he allowed his teeth to graze the delicate skin there before moving along
For a week after that, Amelia spent her days switching between resting and running. She had travelled as far away from the church as possible, finding herself in a small farming village just on the outskirts of Vi.The first day she arrived, things were peaceful. However, later in the day, hunters managed to find their way to her, marching through the streets, banging on doors, doing immediate inspections. Causing as much trouble as they possibly could. When they didn’t manage to find Amelia hiding within the homes, they moved onto barns and sheds.By the end of their inspection, the peace that had lain over the village was upturned and ruined. Knowing that she couldn’t stick around anymore, she found herself fleeing once more. That was how things went each day. She would find herself in a new vill
"Welcome." An older man with long grey hair and a beard said while standing and beginning to make his way towards Amelia."Um…" Amelia stammered and began to back up. "What’s going on? Why am I here?""Don’t be afraid." The old man urged as he continued to close the distance between them. The others that still remained around the fire were watching Amelia with looks of curiosity and alarm."Please…" Amelia yelped as she tripped over her own feet. "Stay back."Hitting the ground, Amelia quickly tried to scurry out of the old man’s reach as he stepped into the room with her."Child, you do not need to fear me." He said, holding out a hand to show he w
"Tell me…" Albert sighed, irritation flaring. "Why did you insist on bringing me to this?""Come on mate." Ben urged smirking. "You can’t constantly live your life training and going on missions. Sometimes ya just got to let your hair down and have a good time. "Grimacing Albert looked at Ben. The uncontrollable urge to punch him ran through him. Lifting his fist, he slammed it down on top of Ben’s head, causing a string of curses to escape the man’s lips."What the hell?" Ben growled, rubbing the spoot Albert had hit. "Why the hell did you do that?""Because you’re a moron." Albert responded."Come on you too. We’re blocking people." Peter sighed, placing his hands on Albert and Ben&rsqu
"I’m so sorry." Amelia wailed, collapsing on the ground with her face in her hands."How many times are you going to say that?" Victoria huffed in annoyance. "Shit happens. It just means that we need to get moving.""Victoria." Bryllie hissed, kneeling down and wrapping a protective arm around Amelia. "Can’t you see she is upset? Show some compassion.""Why?" Victoria asked, her eyes narrowing. "So that she can continue to be weak? This is a kill or be killed world, the sooner Amelia learns that, the better. ""That’s enough." Tobias hissed, shutting Victoria up immediately. "Amelia, you need to pull yourself together. We managed to escape thanks to Bryllie’s quick thinking, but if we don’t get moving now, there is a possibility her efforts
When Amelia arrives back at the Nomads domain, there is a lot of fussing going on, and all of it is coming from the cabin that Albert was being kept in. Gasping, she rushes forward and barges into the cabin to find that Victoria is hovering over the hunter with a knife at his throat.“Where is she?” She hisses, pressing the blade against his skin enough to draw blood. “Tell me where you’ve taken Amelia!”“I told you I haven’t done anything!” Albert growls before his eyes snap to Amelia. “She’s right fucking there!”As he speaks, Victoria’s eyes slowly pull away from the hunter’s face and come to rest on Amelia’s. However, they don’t stay there long before they’re traveling to her neck, and a look of fury crosses her face.“You went to see that wolf bastard?” She roars, pressing her knife harder against Albert’s throat so that a grunt of pain escapes him. “What the fuck were you thinking?”“First,” Amelia says, taking a tentative step forward. “Move your weapon.”“Why?” Victoria asks,
The next morning, Clarence woke up to Amelia’s scent, but when he turned over, half expecting her to be in bed with him, he found that the space beside him was empty and cold.“Fuck,” he growled, looking down at his bare body. “What the actual fuck happened?”Sitting up, he looked around his tent, taking in all the empty beer bottles that covered the floor, and realized that he had drank too much.“Must have been from the alcohol,” he grumbled, getting up and throwing on some clothes. “There’s no fucking way she would be stupid enough to come here anyway.”Deciding that he was simply yearning for her in his delirious state, he began to exit his tent, only to stop as Nadia came rushing in.“Alpha!” She gasped, her wide eyes taking in the space around him. “There…”“There what?” Clarence snapped. “What the hell is it so fucking early?”“There has been a death.”“Death?” He roared, storming past Nadia and out onto the grounds to take in the group that stood around something, or rather, s
The room around Clarence swayed as he brought his fourth, or maybe fifth, bottle to his lips. Downing its contents, he throws it against the ground and then slumps onto his bed."Fuck!" he growled, throwing his arm over his eyes as if it would stop the fucking spins. “What the hell?"So far, no one had managed to find a single trace of Amelia, and despite knowing he shouldn’t give two shits if she was dead or alive, Clarence couldn’t stop the torrent of emotions in his body.‘Mate,’ Griffin whimpered, causing Clarence’s frustration to grow more. ‘Find her.’‘She isn’t our fucking mate!’That’s right. She wasn’t Clarence’s fucking mate. She was a damn succubus that tricked him with her powers, and that was why he couldn’t stop the attraction he felt toward her.‘But her abilities were blocked,’ Griffin counters, showing Clarence a picture of the ring that Amelia always wore. ‘She was sincere.’Sincere. There was nothing sincere about a fucking succubus. They were evil, and they pretend
Soft moans of delight escape Bryllie’s lips as Amelia’s tongue swirls around her nipple and her teeth nip at it.“Amelia,” she whispered, wrapping her hand in Amelia’s long strawberry hair.“What is it, beautiful?” Amelia purred, lifting her glazed gaze to meet Bryllie’s. “You aren’t wanting me to stop, are you?”“No,” Bryllie whimpered, caressing her head. “I want you to do more.”As she speaks, Bryllie’s skin flushes ever so slightly from the embarrassment of admitting her deepest desire. If only Amelia knew just how Bryllie felt for her from the minute she laid eyes on her there in the woods tied to that tree.Since then, she had been watching her while she made mistake after mistake, and when she decided to go to that wolf, it was a harsh blow. And although Bryllie had made him promise to take proper care of Amelia, he still fucked up, and after that, she couldn’t possibly let another soul hurt the woman she loved.“Make love to me,” Bryllie continued. “Make me feel like I’m the o
“Are you sure?”Jimin’s words leave his lips slowly as he continues Amelia’s request. Was she sure? Of course, she was sure of this. She had the entire kingdom of Vi after her, and if she didn’t learn to fight and hone in on her succubus abilities, she would be nothing more than a sitting duck.“I don’t want others to continue to get hurt because of me,” she said slowly. “I want to be able to not only protect myself but also those I care about.”Right. This was what she wanted. She couldn’t continue to be that weak girl who grew up in the convent. That girl was gone, and she would never return.“We can easily handle things,” Jimin pointed out, not quite budging. “You really don’t…”“I do,” Amelia countered, cutting him off before he could continue. “This isn’t only for those around me; this is for me. I’ve been weak my entire life and accepted things as they were because I was led to believe that it was the way of our goddess, but how can I possibly continue to trust in the plan of an
The world around Amelia faded in and out as she tried to get her bearings. How much time had passed since she came out here to clear her head? How much time did it take for her other self to completely combine with her current self?‘How do you feel?’Feel… That was an interesting question, given that she didn’t feel anything.Frowning, Amelia lifted her hands and examined them as if they were foreign to her, but they were her own. The same slender fingers, the same pale skin lightly peppered with freckles. She was still her, but she didn’t feel like her.‘Fine, I think,’ Amelia responded, slowly getting to her feet. ‘I just feel... nothing.’‘No pain?’ her succubus self purred. ‘Has all the heartache that bastard werewolf caused you disappeared?’‘Yeah.’If she truly thought about it, all her heartache was gone, as was the confusion she felt in regards to the hunter and the odd memory she found.‘Then you should head back to camp and face that damned bastard Albert.’Not seeing any r
Amelia continued to stare at Albert as he seemed to come out of whatever daze he had been in from her prying on his memories. "What the fuck did you just do?" he growled, attempting to lash out. "Who saved who?" "You," Amelia responded, still trying to make sense of what she saw. "When we were kids, but why don’t either of us remember?" Frowning, Amelia tried her hardest to recall the memory she saw, but even she couldn’t find that she had it. "You shouldn’t waste your breath on him," Victoria huffed, deciding to break the silence that was beginning to fall around them. "It’s clear that he didn’t care enough to remember it, so you shouldn’t care too much either." Even though Amelia knew that she was probably right, she couldn’t help the warring emotions she was beginning to feel. She and this hunter had a history, and they were clearly close enough for him to risk his life, but why were they like this now? ‘Those emotions are going to ruin you,’ her succubus side warned. ‘You nee
"Is this the last of them?"Clarence’s voice rang out, drawing his underlings attention toward him.He was pretty sure that all the hunters that littered the ground were all the ones present, but he wasn’t about to risk the chance of any still hanging around."Frank," he continued, spotting his beta close by. "Have you scouted the area?""Yes, alpha," Frank responded. "There are no more hunters."Nodding, Clarence found himself beginning to relax. Great, there were no more hunters, so for now his pack was safe, but that didn’t necessarily mean that this wouldn’t happen again."You should take better care of protecting her."The kitsune’s words echoed in his mind unbidden, causing a wave of conflicting emotions to begin to roll through Clarence."Fucking hell."Letting out a string of profanities, he began to take in the area around him. Noting how all the tents that his pack mates lived in were in fact not safe if a serious threat were to come their way."Maybe it is time to relocate,
Amelia jerks backwards due to the hunter's strong dislike of her. Even though she should have expected as much, she couldn’t quite shake the pain she felt toward it."I will once you’ve calmed down," she says slowly, trying to keep her voice neutral. "But you should really try to relax, as your injuries could reopen."When the hunter was brought back with Amelia and the others, he was sporting deep scratches along his stomach and arms, all of which needed to be stitched up to keep him from bleeding out."I promise once you’re healed enough, you will be released, and we will disappear.""Disappear?" the hunter repeats, rage flashing in his eyes. "Like hell, that will happen! Do you know how long I’ve waited for the moment we met again so that I could take your life with my own hands?"Giving a sad smile, Amelia simply shook her head."You’ll have to get in line for that, I’m afraid."Now that she had enough time to process it, she knew that he, along with the rest of the kingdom of Vi,
