The driver stared at his watch and he sighed for the umpteenth time, while cursing his luck for being the one sent to pick up the girl. Her plane had landed over thirty minutes ago, and she had still not come out of the airport.
As if on cue, the lady he had been waiting for, stepped out of the airport. "Miss Mabel, over here, ma'am," said Rufus, the driver who had been assigned the responsibility of picking her up from the airport. He had been sent hours before her flight even took off, as her family wanted to make sure she wouldn’t try to pull a fast one on them. Mabel’s family guards had also been scattered inside the airport to make sure she didn’t run away.If they didn’t manage to bring her home then he wouldn’t live to see another day in his job as her father wouldn’t have spared him if he didn’t bring his daughter back.As soon as he informed them that Mabel had come out, they left them alone as their job had been done. All that concerned them was making sure that Mabel came out of the airport, and not making sure she got home safely."Good evening, Rufus," Mabel greeted with a forced smile on her face. "How have you been?" she asked out of politeness."I have been fine, Miss Mabel,” Rufus answered as he opened the door for her. “We should leave, so we can get home, so your father won’t complain,” he said to her.“Let me guess, he made you come here before my flight took off so his property wouldn’t run off again?” Mabel scoffed, as she knew her father."Yes, he did make me come here early but not because he sees you as his property but because he misses you and cares for your safety, Miss Mabel." Rufus lied and she scoffed once more as she didn’t believe a word he said.“You’ve been gone for five years, I’m sure he misses you,” Rufus persisted in reassuring the girl.“I may be only twenty-three but I’m not stupid, Rufus,” Mabel said and she entered the car. Rufus closed the door behind her and he entered the driver’s seat. After making sure she had her seatbelt on, he started the car and left.Mabel rested her head on the door and she sighed as she was returning to the place she dreaded. The home that had more terrible memories than good ones. Was there even any good one? She wondered. Her name was Mabel Deville and she was the youngest child of one of the most powerful and rich families in the world. Many dreamed of a life she had, but she hated it as it was a terrible life. Her mother was the first wife of her father, Anthony Deville. However, she was unable to conceive and her father, wanting to continue his family legacy, went and got married to the biggest devil in her life, her stepmother.Somehow, her step-mother conceived two months after she got married to her father and gave birth to a son and two years later, her stepmother gave birth to her sister.Mabel didn’t quite understand what happened after that but according to her father, whom she refused to believe, her mother came crying back to him and he decided to give her one last chance to prove herself. That last chance led to her being born. One would think that he would finally love her mother but he didn’t. Instead, her step-mother managed to convince her father that she wasn’t his daughter, and the old man didn’t waste any time in exiling her and her mother. She was just a month old when it happened, and her father kept the news of his first wife conceiving and taking in a secret. He only brought her back after her mom died. She was just eight and that was where all her troubles started. Her step-mom and siblings didn’t hesitate to make her life a living hell and well, her father didn’t care about her and so, he turned a blind eye to whatever was happening to her."Rufus,” she called the driver.“Yes, Miss Mabel,” he answered.“What has home been like after my dad sent me out of the country?” she inquired. Due to her father not accepting her, he kept her existence hidden from the whole world. No one except a handful of helpers, guards and drivers knew the Deville’s had another daughter. He sent her to boarding school in order to keep her identity hidden and as soon as she graduated, he sent her out of the country to complete her degree as punishment. It was when he sent her out of the country that she had attempted to flee but who knew her father was keeping tabs on her as his men dragged her back to her college where she was punished severely for running away.“They missed you,” Rufus answered, and she chuckled.“Rufus, why do you like to lie to me?” she asked.“So I won’t have to hurt you more,” Rufus sighed bitterly.“I think if you hurt me more, I’ll come to terms with the fact that I’ll never be loved by anyone, especially my family,” Mabel retorted and she closed her eyes once more. She opened it a few minutes later, and she stared out the window. She noticed a car which was parked upfront with the trunk open. Standing beside the car were two men and they looked agitated. Her car passed by them and Mabel looked back. “Stop!” she said to Rufus, who immediately stepped on the brakes. “What happened?” he asked her worriedly.“Two men are stranded,” Mabel answered as she unbuckled her seatbelt and got out of the car.“Miss Mabel, we are already late, your father will be mad,” Rufus tried to stop her, but she didn’t listen as she walked up to the stranded men.‘This girl will be the end of me,’ Rufus muttered to himself as he stepped out of the car to follow her.The two men turned to face Mabel when they heard footsteps approaching them. She studied the two men and she was immediately able to make out who the employee was and who the boss was. One had a cold look on his face and the other was busy with the car.It was obvious from the car that the man was rich. She observed him from head to toe. He was wearing a black suit and Mabel observed that he had beautiful features; blue eyes as deep as the ocean and jet black hair with a stubble and sharp jawline as well as full lips and high cheekbones. He emitted a cold aura and had an icy gaze.“Do you need any help?” she asked. She didn’t even realize she was mesmerized by the cold looking man until he spoke.“No!” the cold man answered rudely, which shocked Mabel. “Now turn back and get the hell out of my sight!”Was this really how he was going to treat someone who offered to help him?"Sir, I was asked to remind you about the meeting scheduled with the investors who are interested in the project tomorrow,” Hank, Christian's driver, told him as the car moved along the highway.“Hmm,” Christian mumbled in response."Your mother also called to remind you about the lunch meeting she scheduled for tomorrow. She said you should be there or else, she'd be upset with you,” the driver continued to convey the messages he had been sent to convey to his boss.Dorian, Christian's brother who was sitting beside him, grinned seeing the sudden distressed look on Christian's face upon hearing what his driver said.Christian and Dorian were the most famous bachelors in the country but unlike Dorian who had dated countless women, Christian had no love life, even his personal life was rarely exposed. Many women had tried to gain the attention of Christian but had failed miserably as he had no interest in seeing any women and it was becoming a source of worry for his mother."Looks like
There was a moment of silence as Mabel was contemplating on what to say to the rude man. “I was just trying to help. There’s no need to be so rude about it,” she finally responded.“You wanted my attention and so you punctured my tyre. Well now you’ve got it. Now leave, women like you who stoop so low for attention aren't really my type,” Christian told Mabel who was left astonished with his statement. Her brows scrunched into confusion as she had no idea of what the man in front of her was talking about. Did he really think she had nothing better to do than stooping so low to get his attention? Sure he was good-looking but that was as far as it went."Excuse me? I honestly do not understand what you’re talking about," She stated as she stood unfazed and unbothered by the man's gaze."So you just managed to pass by at the same time my car’s tyre got punctured?" Christian asked as he started to move closer towards her.He had encountered women like her who would try to get his attentio
Mabel was still making her way to the car when she felt something graze her arm, causing her to cry out in pain. When she looked at it, she saw her clothes had torn and her skin was very red.She immediately turned and found the man pointing a gun at her with a crazy look in his eyes. This man was crazy! All she wanted to do was to help him and the asshole actually shot at her.“Are you crazy?!” She yelled at him. “I won’t be nice and miss next time. Apologize for puncturing my tyre,” Christian demanded. “You really haven’t gotten it through your thick skull that I didn’t puncture your tyre. It was a darn coincidence that I showed up,” Mabel scoffed as she stretched her hands towards Rufus.“You have five seconds to…” Christian couldn’t complete his words as he felt something graze his arm and he felt a slight pain. It all happened so fast that he didn’t see it coming. When he looked down, he saw a graze on his arm. She had actually shot him, well, grazed his skin but still. “You’r
“Ma’am, we have bigger things to worry about, like the one who just called,” Rufus said, referring to her father so she would come back to her senses. It thankfully did the trick as Mabel slowly lowered her gun. Not wanting to delay anymore, she turned and faced Rufus. “Can you fix the tyre?” she asked him in a shaky voice.“Yes, there’s a spare, but your father is not going to be happy about what happened,” Rufus replied in a whisper.“We’ll cross that bridge when we get there, please fix the car,” Mabel requested and Rufus immediately got to work. Not wanting to give in to the urge to kill the crazy man, Mabel walked away from the car while waiting for Rufus to finish.“I’ll call for another car, sir,” Christian’s driver said and he immediately brought out his phone. Christian didn’t say anything, instead, he focused his attention on the woman who now stood at a distance from him. He saw her pacing around, and his eyes furrowed when he noticed that she was shaking. He was no expe
"I-i," Mabel stuttered as she didn't know what to say.How was she supposed to help when the family didn't even include her in anything they did? She had no idea who this supposed family was and why they were her family's enemy. All she knew about the Romeros was that they were her family's arch-enemy. Nothing more, nothing less."Don't worry, I already have a task for her," Anthony responded to Kendra and Mabel knew she wasn't going to like the task as it would be close to impossible. The rest of dinner went by silently for Mabel as the rest of the family talked while she just stared at her empty plate as she was unable to eat anything.“Honey, aren’t you going to eat anything?” Claire asked after they were done having dinner.“Mom, leave her alone, any more food and she’ll blow up like an inflated balloon,” Kendra mocked Mabel. “Just a few years apart from us and you have gained so much weight.”“I’ll go get settled in,” Mabel said, immediately standing up from her seat. “Excuse me,”
Mabel woke up the next morning to the sound of someone banging on her door. She groaned in annoyance as she had barely gotten any sleep due to her trying to clear the dust from her room."Wake up, you fat pig," she heard her half-sister's voice, and this just urged her to continue her sleep."Fine, I'll go tell Dad that you refused to see him after he called you," she heard Kendra say, and this was effective in getting Mabel up.She jumped off her bed and opened the door to find an annoyed Kendra at her door. "You fat pig, do you know how long I've been at the door?!""Less than three minutes," Mabel rolled her eyes at her overly dramatic sister."Wow, someone seems to have grown some guts after spending time away from us," Kendra sneered and she dragged Mabel by her hair. The latter was left helpless as if she touched Kendra, her father and stepmother wouldn't spare her."Just because you managed to get into that prestigious college and graduate top of your class doesn't change the f
Anthony had everything planned out. He was tired of Mabel and he finally wanted to take her out. She would die without him having to touch her and he would take down Christian. The two biggest problems in his life would be out for good. It was like killing two birds with one stone.“Keep an eye on her to make sure she doesn’t mess up the plan. Use force if necessary,” Anthony instructed his son.“With pleasure,” Kelvin responded with a devious smile on his face. It had been a long time since he had fun with Mabel and he had missed it a lot. After Mabel left her father’s study, she headed straight to her room. Thankfully, she hadn’t unpacked yet and so she didn’t have to go through the stress of packing her bags once again. She was however met by someone when she got to her room and that was her stepmother.Mabel took a deep breath as she knew that the woman didn’t have any good intentions coming there. “Mother,” she called.Claire turned to look at her and in her hands was the takeou
When Christian woke up the next day, he was more calm and composed than the previous night but that didn’t mean he was going to let the lady go scot-free.He immediately got himself ready for the office after which he left his house. As per his custom, his driver drove him to the coffee shop his mother owned, where he usually got coffee every morning before going to the office. When he however got there, he found someone else already in the shop. This made him frown a bit as he had given strict orders that no one should be allowed in until after he got his coffee in order to avoid dealing with anyone. In case he didn’t show up by a particular time, the coffee shop was free to open. He looked at his watch and it wasn’t even yet time so why was someone already in it.Without wasting time, he made his way over to the woman who didn’t know he was there as she had her back turned to him. As he got closer, he realized that there was something annoyingly familiar about her. His eyes went o
Eugene stared at the mansion which was built away from a residential area in the middle of nowhere which was swarming with guards and he squinted his eyes. His brother had to be very foolish if he thought he didn't keep an eye on him even while outside the country. There was no property his brother brought that he didn't know about and that included those that weren't even bought in George's name.He was standing in one of such mansions and he chuckled when he saw the guards as if they would stop him from getting his hands on George.“Dad, please get a move on it!” He heard Mabel say to him through the earpiece that was shoved in his ear.His children as well as Christian had wanted to come along but he refused as this was something he wanted to do by himself. It was a score only brother-to-brother could settle.Seeing as they wanted in on the action, he settled for attaching a camera to himself so they could see what was going on.Hearing how Mabel was impatient, he nodded to his ri
Eugene paced around the room as he waited for the asshole to be brought in. The bastard had dared to treat his daughter like that? He would make him pay for the rest of his pathetic life. The door opened and he came face to face with the bastard. The guard nodded to him after which he closed the door.“Who are you?” Anthony squinted his eyes at Eugene who immediately closed the gap before them and landed a punch to the former's face.“Are you crazy?” Anthony roared as he moved to attack Eugene.Eugene easily dodged and he landed another punch on Anthony. This time, to the gut.“That is nothing compared to the hell you put my daughter through for the last sixteen years,” Eugen growled and the realization hit Anthony.“Eugene Lansley and it's not a pleasure to meet you,” He said as he lifted Anthony and threw him against the table.“Guards!” Anthony called when he realized he wasn't against the man who was allegedly Mabel's father.“You decided to punish my daughter because your fragil
Kate then smiled at her and she smiled back. Mabel felt Christian rub her fingers and when he turned to look at him, he had a smile on his face as he was happy that they had sorted out their differences.Mabel and his mother were the two most important women in his life and he was happy they had found a way to co-exist. “I'm going to kill him,” they suddenly heard Eugen roar. Everyone at the table with the exception of Mabel immediately got up to see what the commotion was all about. When Christian noticed that she wasn't following, he immediately came back and dragged her away from her seat.“What happened?” Mabel heard Reginald ask when they got to where Eugene was. He was currently heading out of their mansion but he stopped upon hearing Reginald speak.“Check your phone, George has made his move,” Eugene told George. He had been in the middle of catching up with Dorian when he got a call from his men asking him to check his phone and when he did, his blood boiled when he saw the
Dorian didn't like how Pauline blamed herself and so he decided to hug her to assure her that he wasn't mad. It wasn't her fault and people dealt with grief differently. He didn't want to imagine what would have gone on in her head after losing her second child. “I'm so sorry, honey,” Pauline apologized as she hugged Dorian back. All those years of suffering immediately vanished from her head as she held her son. Her mind took her to when he was pregnant with him and how he had troubled her by keeping her up late at night. She remembered the first time he kicked her and how she had been so excited to see him. She had been so happy that she got a son as she won the bet against Eugene who prayed for a daughter, one that would look like her while she wanted a mini Eugene.“It’s not your fault,” Dorian stated. If there was one thing the accident that almost claimed his life had taught him, it was that life was too short for him to delay accepting his parents who had already been throu
When Mabel opened her eyes, she saw that it was already morning and when she turned to look at Christian, she saw that he was not beside her and when she touched the bed, it was cold. She immediately picked up her phone to see if he had left a message and sure enough he had. He informed her that he was going to visit George’s mansion as the bastard had gone into hiding. Her eyes darkened when she remembered what George had attempted to do to her had Christian not shown up. As violated as she felt, Christian had made her feel better by holding her in his arms till she fell asleep. Thoughts about Dorian and the two people who were claiming to be her parents rang in her head but she pushed them to the back of her head as she wasn’t playing when she said they weren’t her parents, nor Dorian her brother. Her stomach growled, reminding her of the fact that she didn’t have dinner or lunch the previous day. Without wasting time, she quickly brushed her teeth and headed down to have whatever
Dorian turned to look at the woman who had fallen asleep beside him, which was the reason why he had asked to watch a movie in the first place. He had known that she would be too worried, and he didn’t want that.He gently made her lie on the bed, after which he covered her up. Taking one last look at her, he headed out of the room and gently closed the door behind him.Without wasting time, he headed straight to the liquor room and when he got there, he stopped in his tracks when he saw Christian already seated down and he already had a glass in his hands.“I’ve been waiting for you,” Christian stated as he tapped the other glass he had brought out. “How’s Mabel?” Dorian inquired as he went to sit beside Christian.“She’s sleeping,” Christian answered as he poured a drink for Dorian. “What about Nala?” “Sleeping as well.” Dorian didn’t waste any time in gulping down the contents of the glass. “A lot has happened,” Christian sighed as it still felt surreal to know that his brother
“Dorian, how do you feel?” Nala asked him as she entered his room. They were currently in Christian’s mansion as Kate had refused to allow him to go back home. She wanted the entire family to be together so her mind could be at rest. Nala couldn’t sleep as she wanted to see Dorian to know how he was holding up, hence, the reason she came to his room.“I don’t know, Nala. I don’t feel anything and it’s puzzling,” Dorian answered. He didn’t know how he was supposed to feel after finding out that Mabel was his sister and that his actual parents were back.Ever since he was young, he had wanted to know who his father was and after he had found out that his mother wasn’t his real mother, he had been itching to know who his parents were and now that he had discovered who they were, he didn’t know what to feel. All the taunts about him being a pauper who leeched off a rich family came to his head and he didn’t even feel excited to know that it wasn’t true. He just felt numb.He turned to
Everyone turned to face her and they watched as she stood up. “Because one bastard says you're my biological parents, doesn't mean I'll accept you as my parents,” Mabel stated and it was as if someone had poured ice on Eugene and Pauline.“Mabel…” Eugene was the first to speak.“My mother died because your brother killed her. You two are not my parents and you are not my brother,” she faced Dorian.“So I suggest you don’t think too much about it and leave me alone,” she told them and with that, she turned and headed up to her room so she could finally get the rest she needed.Pauline blinked hard to stop the tears from falling. After years of sorrow, she finally found her happiness and her daughter wasn't accepting of her and that hurt deeply. Christian immediately got up and he followed Mabel as if there was someone she would talk to, it would be him. When he entered his room, he saw her changing into one of his shirts and he smiled before he approached her.“Go have a shower and ch
When they however got back to the mansion, they found something waiting for them there. “What the hell?!” Dorian exclaimed when he saw the gates of the mansion had been brought down.Christian frowned as he had spoken to his father minutes ago and the old man didn't tell him that something had happened or did it happen after the call. The guard at the gate on seeing the car quickly approached them.“What happened?” Aaron was the one who asked and the guard didn't waste any time in narrating all that took place that night. After the guard was done, Mabel raised her head and she turned to look at Dorian especially due to the fact that the guard said the man bore a resemblance to Dorian. It couldn't be, Mabel thought to herself.“Let's go meet them,” Christian simply said and Aaron drove past the gates of the mansion. When they got to the mansion, Dorian was the first to get down and Christian assisted Mabel. Her heart pounded in her chest as there was a possibility that George's brothe
