Selene's POV.

The house was completely silent as soon as we walked in and I almost asked if this was a graveyard.

It wasn't too late into the night so I expected to see Martha and probably Brenda walking around but that was not the case around here.

I was feeling anxiety and at the same time also feeling like something was wrong somewhere.

My suspicions were very true because the door opened behind us almost immediately making us turn.

Mia.

Mia stared at us suspiciously as my eyes ran down her length. She was making my head spin with what I saw her put on. How does she walk around the house looking so naked without feeling weird about it? I mean it was probably so much to ask of her to cover herself up.

I decided that this is not my business because anything I say right now could be used against me. Mia and I had not had any conversation particular to this issue.

I felt like there was more to it than she was willing to let on. One of the major reasons I would have allowed whate

Selene's POV. I paced around my room as Julie's cell phone kept on ringing. "Pick up." I mutter to myself hoping that she instantly does and then I am able to tell her everything I feel. This was bad. I wasn't supposed to be caught in a mix of love triangles. This wasn't supposed to be happening to someone like me especially after I had been dealt with a heavy hand. Was I going to listen to sound correction? Of course not, I believed that everything was going on smoothly but I didn't know why it was taking me so long just to get rid of the emotions coursing through me. When would I ever learn how to separate my feelings from being with a man? I was supposed to have understood the handwriting on the wall but here I was still feeling like a fool.Jakob was probably laughing at me in his room and I still remained foolish. What if he tells Mia? That lady would mock me for eternity. Luckily, Julie picked up after so many rings. "Where have you been? I have been trying to call you the e

Selene's pov.The Next Day. I cramped all the files that Jakob had given me a few hours ago just so that I could have a little bit of peace. We had established the fact that nothing good was ever going to come out of this. The earlier we perished,, whatever thoughts entered our minds, the better for everyone. After waiting for so long and realizing that there might be nothing else, but the usual way of handling things had to be from the beginning to the end. I had so many words on my mind and I hoped that it was better to just remain mute The meeting started at exactly 10:00 a.m. with Jakob and Mia in their seats. "Good morning, everyone; I think this is the best time to announce to you that we are going to be having a shift in the way things will go henceforth. I want to introduce to you, the new person in charge of the company's financial ideas." If the men seated were surprised they pretended like they were not and this made me even more happy. Selene's POV.At the Close of Work. I took a deep breath as soon as I dropped my bag on the table. My heart lurched with anger, but I contained myself. The only mistake I made was the fact that I had not recorded the conversation and used it as direct proof of her bullying.I wasn't going to stay here and allow her to poison me all in the name of being mature. Even if I couldn't tell anyone, I needed a piece of evidence. I decided to go downstairs to take some water when I bumped into her again, also trying to come out of the kitchen area. She gave me a wicked smile and I kind of got annoyed by her. "It's a pity how you have decided to reduce your worth simply to becoming a placeholder and now a secretary. I mean maybe Jacob is right with his sayings that you are nothing but a gold digger. I would have disputed that but seeing how you behave around him?" She clicked her tongue as though I was nothing but a worm in her presence. I kissed my teeth, still swallowing my answers. I did

Selene's POV. If anyone had told me that staying here was going to cause me so much interruptions and interceptions I would have refuted but here I was annoyed that everything was going haywire but the most annoying part of things was the fact that those who were involved didn't think it was necessary. "Now that you have decided not to get involved with me, because of whatever Mia said how am I supposed to present this to the board? A lot of people have expectations and you are about to crush them simply because you don't think it's important. Why do you even act this way?" Jakob demanded from me. I refused to let him get away with this conversation especially when I knew what I wanted. There were a lot of things that I wanted to say to him but the most important was to keep quiet and watch him. "When you are done with this conversation, then you should let me know what you have concluded with her. If she wants to frustrate my life then she should be ready to fill in for you. I do

Selene's POV. I kind of understand that even if I refused to attend the dinner with him he was not going to flop. This was just his way of making me feel a lot more guilty than I should on a normal day simply because he wanted to make his agenda come to pass. Guess who was not going to be fooled by him? Of course, me. I refused to even speak about anything concerning this and was wondering how far this was going to go before things went out of hand. I spotted Mia descending the stairs gently with a wicked smile on her face. She probably thought that she had gotten me where she wanted but I was only just looking out for the both of them. They looked like they were having troubles understanding each other and wasn't my business in any way but I just felt a lot more for JakobMia's heels clicked as she approached me with a daring smile. Selene's POV.My normal appearance at Julie's bar was usually a hit but today was worse and I knew why. I just need to leave that house so that I didn't run myself mad. Immediately Julie spotted me her nose wrinkled in disgust. "You look like trash and I mean well." I laughed at her reality check. If there was one thing I knew about my friend, it was the fact that she would never sugar coat things no matter how much I was going to be hurt. "And this is where you come in and take care of me as a good friend that you are, isn't it?" I retorted, sticking my tongue out as I pulled out a barstool. "Damn, you are one of the most hilarious people I have come across because, never would you come here except you have a problem, and when you do, you act like I'm supposed to pull out some advice from thin air simply because you are my friend." She said, poking her fingers at me. I reached for a glass of champagne she passed on the table towards me with a small smile on my face. "You just ha

. Selene's POV. I followed Julie to her office, catching a glimpse of tears trail down her eyes. I caught her arm just as she was about to enter her office. "I didn't know that I did something that triggered you. I'm sorry for whatever my offense is but I need to know what exactly I have done to you because right now I'm confused." I said, my tone was a bit shaky. Julie blinked back tears while staring at me and looking away. "Oh, really? I mean you have a man who loves you and cares about you and he sometimes defends you whenever Mia is acting up, I think you are about to throw something great away just because of your fears."My eyes widened at the partial insult, even if she had not called me out directly, she had inflicted that I was not wise enough to see what was right in front of me. I could accept that I might have done a few things that might be considered extreme but this wasn’t even my fault. "I tell you that if you have anything to say to me why don't you come out str

Jakob's POV.As soon as we got home I noticed a change in Mia's demeanor. "Pray tell what I did to offend you this time again?" I asked her jokingly, waiting for her reply. Mia stomped ahead of me leaving me downstairs with no help to push me up. Selene would never do this to me even if she was at her boiling point. I didn't realize how much they were different until these scenarios. "Aren't you going to help push me upstairs? You can't just leave me alone here."She threw a glance behind her back and laughed. "Why don't you just watch me instead?" My eyes widened slightly. I must have offended her so greatly for her to behave this way. Selene had helped me secure a major deal from Mr Mike, making him realize how important she was to me in just a few words and seconds. I couldn't compare her to my beautiful woman here because that would be a huge disrespect but even at that, the marginal difference was a whole lot. "Why have you decided to become a pussy especially to everything

After waiting for some time, I suddenly decided to take a deep breath and try to understand what the hell was going on.The room went silent on my grandmother walked in. "Don't tell me that he is still trying to come up? He is doing a lot more than I expected him to. Annie, what didn't you inform me when you arrived?" I rolled my eyes at her provocative tone. Selene's POV. The doctor might have agreed to keep his mouth shut for now. But I knew better than to rely on just one person to keep my secret. If I wanted to stay ahead I needed a backup plan. My mind searched through the people I knew trying to figure out who I knew could keep a secret or who I could trust but no one came up. They’re all fake and trusting them is like digging my own grave. I inhaled resting my head on the pillow when a mane struck my thought. Roslyn If I can at least give some 50% of my trust it should be Roslyn. She’s unpredictable sharp and good. I wasn’t sure if I could trust her but I also knew she was my best option. I picked up my phone and dialed her number. The phone rang twice before she picked up. “Jordan?” Her voice was steady but I could hear the sight edge of sorry beneath it. “Where the hell have you been?” “Worried about me?” I smirked. “This isn’t funny!” She snapped. “Do you have an idea of what’s happening? Selene's POV The private suite was just as quiet now as when I arrived. The kind of silence that felt unnatural pressing down on me like a weight I couldn’t shake. The steady beep of the heart monitor and the occasional shuffle of the doctor moving around the room were the only sounds breaking the stillness. Pain throbbed through my ribs with every breath a dull ache reminded me of just how close I had come to losing everything. My libs were still sluggish from whatever medication they had pumped into me but my kind was clear too clear. I wasn’t supposed to be here I wasn’t supposed to be alive but somehow I managed to escape death. Maybe that was lucky or not. I was about to ask the doctor for water when he suddenly pulled out his phone his expression tight. He glanced at me before pressing a button putting the call on a speaker. “You need to hear this.” He muttered setting the phone down on the table beside me. I frowned but said nothing he must have something to show me s

Selene's POV It felt like I was floating on my air, the world around me felt like it was spinning. I had never felt this type of hangover in a while, it must have been a crazy night… I thought as I tried to steady myself gripping the sheets of my bed wondering how I had been so careless when muffled voices reached my ears. Slowly I tried to focus on the voices when I heard a slight beeping machine, slowly my eyelids fluttered open and I was faced with a ceiling that was certainly strange making it clear I was not in my room. "You should have been here earlier." A soft feminine voice uttered, making me incline my head in the direction ignoring the throb in my head. I tried to focus on who was speaking. "Annie, don’t start." A familiar voice shot back laced with frustration. "Don’t start?" Annie retorted, scoffing. "He was bleeding out, Josh! Where were you?" Blood. The word sent a slow, crawling heat through my chest. My fingers twitched against stiff sheets, memories flickeri

Selene's POV The beeping of the heart monitor filled the hospital room, the steady rhythmic sounds of my heartbeat had long since faded into the background of my mind. The scent of strong antiseptic clung to the air, sharp and sterile, an obvious and never ending reminder that I was still in this place— bedridden.I let out a little sigh—I had spent enough time on this bed to memorize the exact placement of every single object in the room. To anyone else that might have sounded a little funny.I noticed how the curtains danced in the breeze whenever wind came, it made me crave for the outside world and not the way the cold sheets felt against my skin. Or the numb ache at my sides. But none of these discomforts compared to the unease brewing within me as I turned my head toward my grandmother who sat silently on the cushioned chair next to me.No matter how many times I had tried to shrug the thoughts off, they just wouldn't budge. She had been acting strange for a while now—too stra

Coming from someone who had waited so long to get answers I guess the taste of victory still lingard in my mouth as I tried to figure out what exactly the problem would be if I went on with my idea. Absolutely no one to support me besides myself and my persistent belief that I could do this. I didn't even bother about going on and on above the usual. I just waited and sealed deals from my office. Julie was my greatest supporter as she didn't miss a day to gas me up and tell me how amazing I was. This was the kind of person I wanted in my life who was going to always prove that there was a reason for me to always have sufficient people around. It wasn't going to change the fact that I was going to suffer to bring my vision to limelight even though I had a few agencies who wanted to mingle with me. I had to turn most of them down when I realized that their visions didn't tally with what they wanted me to do. It was always prohibited to mingle with such people as long as t

  • Forced To Marry The Crippled Billionaire    CHAPTER 107

Seline’s POV Yes! We did it. The joy of the victory I just got spread like wildfire in my body, I couldn’t contain it. The doors of the courtroom swung open and I stepped into the daylight. The sun, high in the sky, hit me with a blend of heat and severe brightness. I had to cover my eyes for a second to adjust to it. I opened my eyes to see a large number of crowd made up of people who Mr Fisher had unjustly robbed in the name of getting treatment in his hospital, and their families, journalists and news agencies all waiting patiently for the result. The moment they all sighted me, a sudden hush fell over them. Some had their palms joined together, mumbling words of prayers. Others simply held hands with or embraced their relatives in hope of good news. “We won!” I declared and the crowd erupted into cheers. Many couldn’t contain their tears and broke down. I held tightly unto the folder of legal documents close to my chest, an evidence of the justice I won for myself and ev

Author's POV. The courtroom air? Stale. Stiff. Like a morgue with better lighting. Dr. Fisher sits slumped. Tailored suit. Empty eyes. His lawyer, a slick weasel in pinstripes, adjusts his tie. 'Nervous'. Prosecutor Amelia Voss strides forward. Heels 'click-clack' like a ticking bomb. She slaps a file on the jury’s rail. Papers flutter. “Ladies. Gentlemen. This man”—she whirls, points at Fisher—“is no healer. He’s a 'chemist of death'.” The jury leans in. Fisher’s pen trembles. “Forged prescriptions. Falsified records. 'Profit over pulse'.” Voss tosses photos—bottles with smudged labels, scribbled dosages. “He didn’t 'mistreat' patients. He 'weaponized' them.” A juror gasps. Fisher’s lawyer stands. “Objection! Speculative—” “Overruled.” Judge Calloway’s voice grinds. Granite face. Ice-chip eyes. “Proceed, Ms. Voss.” She smiles. Feral. “Gladly.” ''' The witnesses come. A parade of ghosts. First: Mrs. Eliza Trent. Apron stained. Hands raw. “My husband… his arthritis
