Selene's pov.

The Next Day.

I cramped all the files that Jakob had given me a few hours ago just so that I could have a little bit of peace. We had established the fact that nothing good was ever going to come out of this. The earlier we perished,, whatever thoughts entered our minds, the better for everyone.

After waiting for so long and realizing that there might be nothing else, but the usual way of handling things had to be from the beginning to the end. I had so many words on my mind and I hoped that it was better to just remain mute

The meeting started at exactly 10:00 a.m. with Jakob and Mia in their seats.

"Good morning, everyone; I think this is the best time to announce to you that we are going to be having a shift in the way things will go henceforth. I want to introduce to you, the new person in charge of the company's financial ideas."

If the men seated were surprised they pretended like they were not and this made me even more happy. I didn't have to battle with peo

Selene's POV.At the Close of Work. I took a deep breath as soon as I dropped my bag on the table. My heart lurched with anger, but I contained myself. The only mistake I made was the fact that I had not recorded the conversation and used it as direct proof of her bullying.I wasn't going to stay here and allow her to poison me all in the name of being mature. Even if I couldn't tell anyone, I needed a piece of evidence. I decided to go downstairs to take some water when I bumped into her again, also trying to come out of the kitchen area. She gave me a wicked smile and I kind of got annoyed by her. "It's a pity how you have decided to reduce your worth simply to becoming a placeholder and now a secretary. I mean maybe Jacob is right with his sayings that you are nothing but a gold digger. I would have disputed that but seeing how you behave around him?" She clicked her tongue as though I was nothing but a worm in her presence. I kissed my teeth, still swallowing my answers. I did

Selene's POV. If anyone had told me that staying here was going to cause me so much interruptions and interceptions I would have refuted but here I was annoyed that everything was going haywire but the most annoying part of things was the fact that those who were involved didn't think it was necessary. "Now that you have decided not to get involved with me, because of whatever Mia said how am I supposed to present this to the board? A lot of people have expectations and you are about to crush them simply because you don't think it's important. Why do you even act this way?" Jakob demanded from me. I refused to let him get away with this conversation especially when I knew what I wanted. There were a lot of things that I wanted to say to him but the most important was to keep quiet and watch him. "When you are done with this conversation, then you should let me know what you have concluded with her. If she wants to frustrate my life then she should be ready to fill in for you. I do

Selene's POV. I kind of understand that even if I refused to attend the dinner with him he was not going to flop. This was just his way of making me feel a lot more guilty than I should on a normal day simply because he wanted to make his agenda come to pass. Guess who was not going to be fooled by him? Of course, me. I refused to even speak about anything concerning this and was wondering how far this was going to go before things went out of hand. I spotted Mia descending the stairs gently with a wicked smile on her face. She probably thought that she had gotten me where she wanted but I was only just looking out for the both of them. They looked like they were having troubles understanding each other and wasn't my business in any way but I just felt a lot more for JakobMia's heels clicked as she approached me with a daring smile. "I didn't know that not only were you jealous, you are also one not to keep your words. I mean I should have figured it out but I thought that you we

Selene's POV.My normal appearance at Julie's bar was usually a hit but today was worse and I knew why. I just need to leave that house so that I didn't run myself mad. Immediately Julie spotted me her nose wrinkled in disgust. "You look like trash and I mean well." I laughed at her reality check. If there was one thing I knew about my friend, it was the fact that she would never sugar coat things no matter how much I was going to be hurt. "And this is where you come in and take care of me as a good friend that you are, isn't it?" I retorted, sticking my tongue out as I pulled out a barstool. "Damn, you are one of the most hilarious people I have come across because, never would you come here except you have a problem, and when you do, you act like I'm supposed to pull out some advice from thin air simply because you are my friend." She said, poking her fingers at me. I reached for a glass of champagne she passed on the table towards me with a small smile on my face. "You just ha

. Selene's POV. I followed Julie to her office, catching a glimpse of tears trail down her eyes. I caught her arm just as she was about to enter her office. "I didn't know that I did something that triggered you. I'm sorry for whatever my offense is but I need to know what exactly I have done to you because right now I'm confused." I said, my tone was a bit shaky. Julie blinked back tears while staring at me and looking away. "Oh, really? I mean you have a man who loves you and cares about you and he sometimes defends you whenever Mia is acting up, I think you are about to throw something great away just because of your fears."My eyes widened at the partial insult, even if she had not called me out directly, she had inflicted that I was not wise enough to see what was right in front of me. I could accept that I might have done a few things that might be considered extreme but this wasn’t even my fault. "I tell you that if you have anything to say to me why don't you come out str

Jakob's POV.As soon as we got home I noticed a change in Mia's demeanor. "Pray tell what I did to offend you this time again?" I asked her jokingly, waiting for her reply. Mia stomped ahead of me leaving me downstairs with no help to push me up. Selene would never do this to me even if she was at her boiling point. I didn't realize how much they were different until these scenarios. "Aren't you going to help push me upstairs? You can't just leave me alone here."She threw a glance behind her back and laughed. "Why don't you just watch me instead?" My eyes widened slightly. I must have offended her so greatly for her to behave this way. Selene had helped me secure a major deal from Mr Mike, making him realize how important she was to me in just a few words and seconds. I couldn't compare her to my beautiful woman here because that would be a huge disrespect but even at that, the marginal difference was a whole lot. "Why have you decided to become a pussy especially to everything

Selene's POV. I laid on my bed not having anything to do today which was a plus because it had been a long time since I had such a long rest. The fact that I didn't have to cater to Jakob any more because he now had a fiancee who resurrected from the dead and didn't care about him kind of gave me the chance to breathe. Looking at my reflection in the mirror gave me some kind of chills that had me wondering why I lost myself in the first place. I mean there were a lot of things that I could have done but I decided to shelve it down simply because I didn't want to look like I was doing too much and now it was getting me pissed off. With a slight yawn, I came down from my bed. I'm going straight to my closet. I needed to start regaining my sense of style and everything that I had worked so hard to build so far. I had so many things on my mind but one of the most important of them all was also topping the chat whether or not Jakob was involved. My love for modeling and making people

Selene's POV. I refuse to give anyone the sole power to control my emotions especially when they were not there before. I had a life before meeting him and that wasn't going to change for anything in the world. If Jakob wanted me to do whatever he wanted, he better prepare to do right by me and not allow me to waste my time nor energy on the wrong things. I was not going to forgo a lot of important things just to have him to myself because I knew deep down that it was not going to last. Scraping my feet on the ground helped me to get out of the annoyance I was currently feeling. I just had it in mind that picking my priorities over anyone's words was going to do me more good than required and I was perfectly fine with that.I look at my reflection again in the mirror enjoying how bossy I looked. if it wasn't going to make any sense then I wouldn't do it, as long as I could have a lot of time to myself, then I could make the best decision for myself. My descent had a lot of heads sp

Epilogue(Author’s pov) The afternoon sun streamed through the windows, casting golden lights across the room. Selene sat on the bed, her laptop was open and her fingers flew over the keys as she responded to emails. Her work demanded her attention too much these days, but it was difficult to concentrate when Ethan was running around the house like a whirlwind. The little boy had energy that never seemed to run out. He kicked his small red ball against the walls and let out triumphant cheers when it bounced back, then ran after it with wild excitement. Selene had gotten the ball for him on his 3rd birthday and ever since, the boy had turned it into his companion and his father hadn’t stopped talking about how he was going to be the best football player in the world. His tiny feet thudded against the floor and along with his squeals of excitement, Selene was frustrated. She didn’t know how else to caution him and had already gotten tired. "Ethan, slow down!" Selene called, he

Selene’s Pov; I kept hearing voices, some were familiar and others, unfamiliar, but what enraged me was that I couldn’t tell whom the voices belonged to. My eyes fluttered open slowly after a while and I blinked rapidly, trying to adjust to the blinding light in the room. The room was unfamiliar and I glanced around, trying to recall how I got here. The ceiling glowed with the harsh fluorescent light. The sharp scent of antiseptic burned my nose, the rhythmic beeping of a monitor filled the silence around me and my body ached, as if I had been torn apart and stitched back together. I tried to move but my legs didn’t respond and panic rose to my chest. I sucked in a sharp breath, my hands moving to my thighs. My fingers trembled as they pressed against my thighs and then my knees, nothing. No sensation, no movement. Nothing at all! A strangled noise escaped my throat as I tried again, harder this time, but my legs remained dead weight beneath me. No, no, no. My heart slammed

Author’s Pov; Logan glanced around quickly, his breath came in ragged gasps as he sprinted through the prison corridor. His palms were slick with sweat, and his heart raced, but that didn’t stop him. This was his moment. This was the perfect opportunity and this time, he was going to ensure that he was successful. But fate had other plans for him.Just as he reached the gates, someone yanked him back. "Going somewhere?" The warden’s voice was taunting. He had been watching the man and knew that he was up to no good. Turns out he was right. Logan gritted his teeth, trying to pull himself out of the man’s grip, but it was useless. Within seconds, two more guards tackled him to the ground, pressing his face into the cold floor. "Son of…" Logan growled, struggling against their grip. "Shut it," one of the guards barked, twisting Logan’s arms painfully behind his back. "You really thought you could buy your way out this time?" Logan chuckled darkly, despite the pain. "Do you ev

Selene's POV The doors opened, and the soft melody of the piano filled the small chapel. My heart pounded so hard I thought everyone could hear it. I took a deep breath, but it didn’t help much. My hands felt empty without someone holding them. I had dreamed of this day since I was a little girl, but in those dreams, I never imagined walking down the aisle alone. I had imagined my father to be the one ushering me down the aisle in my glistering and beautiful wedding gown and then into the hands of my husband but I guessed everything happens for a reason. I gripped my bouquet tighter and took my first step. My mother sat in the front row, smiling at me with teary eyes. Jakob’s parents sat beside her, their faces warm and kind. Martha gave me a thumbs-up. Sean nodded, his face serious, but I knew he was happy for me. Julie was grinning, whispering something to her boyfriend, everyone looked at me with love and support, but the empty space beside me was too loud, I was not supposed

  • Forced To Marry The Crippled Billionaire    CHAPTER 170

Author's POV Two weeks had gone past since they returned to the country. It had been a hard time, keeping memories of sorrow; joy, however, was to remain valid for this night. Jakob and Selene’s parents sat together for dinner, sharing laughter and memories in a great camaraderie of friendship. Summer warm, one could hear names and clinking of glasses and rejoicings. Jakob surveyed the table. He breathed in once. “I want to say something, there is something very important I would like to say.” The attention of the room shifted to him. Selene appeared sweetly and placed her hand on his. He lifted his glass. “But before I say what I have to say, first of all let us take this toast,” he paused as they all took their glass of wine, " To family.” “To family!” Everyone chimed in and raised their glasses. Jakob looked on smiling. “I wouldn’t be here today if it weren’t for all of you. You have been my backbone, my strength. You pulled me out of the deep waters. Selene’s father..” J

  • Forced To Marry The Crippled Billionaire    CHAPTER 169

Author's POV Mia planted herself on the cold bench within the jail cell and tapped her fingers against the metallic bars, letting out a huffed breath as she pulled out the tiny phone she had hidden in her pocket and moved her fingers quickly to dial Jacob's number. She needed to act fast before the prison guards on duty came to check on her and caught her, being without a phone was the worst thing that could ever happen to her in this cruel place. She cleared her throat and she mentally went on the words she was going to say to Jakob. The phone rang: once, twice, three times, and then he finally picked up, his voice barely above a whisper. "What do you want, Mia? How were you able to call me anyways?" She swallowed hard, pressing the phone closer. "Jakob, listen, I don't have much time so you have to listen to me attentively. I need you to get me out of here." Silence. Then a small chuckle. "You need me to do what?" Mia clenched her teeth. "Bail me out, Jakob! I shouldn't b

Selene's POV The TV had been on for some time, but my focus had wandered off entirely. My mind had been busy wandering amidst all the things I had to do when my name rang a bell.I blinked."Selene Carter’s art collection is making waves throughout the industry!" said the host, announcing. "People are talking, and the demand to see the owner herself is growing loud."I froze.Jakob must have been scrolling through his phone. "Did they just say your name?"I nodded slowly. "I think so."Jakob raised the volume. The host continued: "Collectors and critics are raving about the unique style, and emotion behind every piece. The name Selene Carter is being whispered about in art circles, and they want to know who she is?"My phone buzzed again, and a notification popped up, someone had mentioned me in a tweet."Where is Selene Carter? We need to see her! #ArtGenius #Masterpiece."Another tweet appeared."This woman’s art speaks to my soul. Who is she? Someone tell me!"I swallowed. This co

Jakob POV I breathed out the moment the plane touched down. It was a lengthy flight. Selene shifted beside me, stretching her arms. She didn't look at me, nor had she for most of the flight. I cared little, not my problem anymore. "We're here," I said, unbuckling my seatbelt. She sighed. "Yeah, we are here finally. The journey for me is so tiring, I need a cool bath and a soft bed to lay on." "Hmm,” I hummed, nodding in agreement to what she wanted. We got our bags and walked out from the plane. The airport was teeming with people; I barely noticed. My eyes straight went to the front where our parents stood awaiting, they spotted us instantly. My mother waved cheerily, and my father grinned beside her. Selene's mother stood there, too, blood-shot but relieved. I expected just a simple greeting, maybe some hugs but as soon as we stepped closer, laughter broke out. My parents were laughing so hard I had to blink, "What's so funny? Is there something on us or did we do something

Jakob's POV. At this point I knew that I was in for some huge ride and I needed to prepare myself for the reality of the situation. This was absurd for me to say the least, but even at that I was only hoping that I will be able to do what I should. Sometimes I wonder why I bothered myself so much with her situation when I should have been able to decipher that she didn't think of me in such a manner. It was more like a thing of convenience for her and even though I didn't want to accept it I guess I found myself doing that already. It didn't mean that I loved it, but I had no choice. "She was going to fight tooth and nail just to have her freedom, or what she considered freedom and I needed to be wise about fighting someone like this. It almost never ended well. I picked up my phone and called my friend. He was the only one who could tell me the truth without hiding. "I need your help because I think I am running mad. I need your help because this woman is about to make me into som
