“How do you feel?” He asked, his voice low and dangerous. “How do you think I feel?” I returned the question, staring back at him defiantly. “Perhaps I should continue?” “I don’t know what you’re talking about, Can you please step back, your fiancée is just meters away and this is not the right way to stand with a woman”. I said, my voice firm, and his face turned into a scowl. “Why are you keen on torturing us?” He asked, one of his hands trailing downwards, “What do you think you’re doing?” I asked, my voice barely a whisper. “Do you like it when I flirt with her?” He inquired, his hands now in between my laps and I bit back a moan, “Do you want me to touch her like this?” He added, his fingers slipping into panties and I immediately held his hands, “Stop! Guards and maids are around, Sophia is still at the dining table” I replied, trying to keep my voice steady. “Answer the question, Ava”. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ After her husband’s betrayal and a hospital error, Ava discovers she’s carrying the child of Billionaire Zayn Beckham. “You spent everything?!” I exclaimed, my voice rising as my hungover husband stumbled into our room and onto the bed. It was 6am, but I hadn’t been able to sleep since I found out that he had closed our joint account on the count of bankruptcy. Ethan groggily lifted his head, his bloodshot eyes squinting at me. “Keep it down, woman,” he groaned, his voice rusty before he gulped down the hungover drink I made him. What a joke? I wasn’t even going to talk about the fact that he was coming in by this time.
Tossing a pillow over his face, he muffled, “My head is killing me, just let me sleep this off, okay?" I was shaking in anger as I re-read the paper on my hand, “Ethan, our joint account is empty, and you want to do what? Sleep it off?” “I’m pregnant! I’m with child, and we have nothing but this house? What happened to our savings! What happened to…” “That’s enough woman, you wanted this and not me, so please don’t just start! I fucking lost an investment and all I want to do is sleep away the pain!” He yelled before groaning softly, massaging his head. “It can’t be! We…” “You…. Not we. You have a child coming. It’s all your baby!” He kicked before bursting into laughter as I stared at him in shock. The nonchalance in his tone made my blood boil. “You promised Ethan,” I said, tears threatening to spill. “We agreed to have this baby together. You said—” “God, Ava, you’re so exhausting” he muttered, running a hand through his hair. “I have oligospermia. I shouldn’t even be a father, Ava. I thought maybe it was a sign that this whole thing wasn’t meant to be. But no, you wouldn’t let it go and keep pestering now see.” He laughed bitterly. “This is no joke, Ethan!” I begged in between sobs. “Just stop! Our emotions are high and wild, I have something to tell you tomorrow, okay? I’m tired and need rest!” He tried to explain, but I wasn’t interested. However he added, “this wasn’t planned, the investment was to double over the weekend after we let the products out, but it crashed in the market faster than lighting!” He was almost sounding pitiful at this point. “Check my phone, if you don’t believe me” I hesitated, then grabbed his phone. The screen lit up with a series of emails coupled with the threats that had reduced my anger to nothing but just when I was about to drop it, another message popped up, one that made me freeze. “Thanks for the Birkin, baby. I would have preferred it in ombré, you already got me the red last week” it read. The sender's message continued to scroll in, “The diamond ring was too small and the Louis Vuitton pumps you got wouldn't match our color for dinner!”.My eyes widened in shock as I read the message and when I thought I had seen it all, another message came in. “I’m coming over”.
This was the investment?I mean, it was saved as Investor!
This was what Ethan had been going on and on about, the one he'd supposedly sunk all our money into? I felt a wave of nausea wash over me as I stared at the phone, my hand trembling with rage. Still in shock, I turned to Ethan, my voice shaking.“Your investment just texted you, Ethan!” I exclaimed, my voice trembling in fury.
In an instant, Ethan's demeanor changed. He sprang to life, his eyes flashing with a mix of panic and anger. Without saying a word, he grabbed the phone from my hand, his fingers closing around it faster than I could say stop.
I tried to react, to grab the phone back from him, but Ethan was too quick.
He pushed me back, his hands on my shoulders, sending me stumbling backward. My hand instinctively wrapped around my stomach, a moan escaping my lips as my back hit the wall with a jarring thud. “What the fuck, Ethan!” I cried out in pain, a moan escaping my lips as I tried helping myself up. “I am pregnant, you sick fucker!”. A tear slipped out, “Was pushing me really necessary? I just found out you cheated and spent our SAVINGS on Birkins and bikinis and lags!” I yelled at him, trying to control my tears."What excuse do you have now, huh?” I asked and let out a scream before bursting into tears.
“Why are you doing this to me… to US!” All I felt was pain. It was all happening too fast.
A few hours before I had found out about our bankruptcy, it was all perfect.I was pregnant with a man who loved me, the same man who had argued to do IVF even though it was against his belief was the same one in my front acting like he had lost his DAMN mind.
I didn’t know what I felt, but I wished it was a nightmare and I would wake up to see it was over.
“The investment failed, what am I supposed to do? Kill myself? I’m sick of this conversation already, please let me be.” He responded nonchalantly.
He was trying so hard to divert the topic. He was out here buying expensive bags for his mistress when our accounts were empty. "You are crazy, Ethan! An investment is your mistress?” I screamed, my voice hoarse with rage and desperation. “You'll pay for this!” I spat, my words dripping with venom. But Ethan's expression darkened, his eyes blazing with anger, and in horror I watched as he snatched the cup that had held his hangover drink and hurled it at me. “Shut up, Ava!” he threw back, the sound of shattering glass and my own terrified gasp filling the air. “I don't have the strength to drag this shit out with you, and I won't be defending myself.”“And what does it matter that I had a mistress, you're still my wife, stop making this a big deal.” He added, and I just cried as I was too speechless.
My heart was scattering into a million pieces, and he didn’t care! He didn’t stop, “Stop making noise, the deed has been done and now we have nothing! So you get to choose now… our marriage or that unborn child”. My mouth hung open at his ultimatum, I just can’t believe it, what changed? I thought we were happy and this baby will make us complete. “You’re drunk” I said weakly, shaking my head. “You don’t mean that”. “You heard me, make a choice, Ava”. Ethan knew all too well how desperately I'd always wanted children, how much being a mother meant to me. And now, he was cruelly ripping that chance away from me. Tears blurred my vision as I clutched my stomach “I'm not taking out my child, Ethan,” “You know what it took before I could carry this baby, you know how much this baby means to me. Please don’t make me choose”, I pleaded, searching for that man I had said yes to and left everything behind for.Looking into his eyes, I couldn’t see him… My Ethan was gone!
“Please…” I pleaded, but he just fired at me with his cold eyes, piercing through my heart.
“You already made your choice, baby,” he sneered, his voice dripping with malice as he casually brought out a brown envelope.“And to think I'm broke, so there's nothing that would be allocated to you." He chuckled, a low, mocking sound that sent a shiver down my spine.
My eyes swept through the paper and I quickly ran after him, “You can't do this to me!” I begged, my voice cracking with desperation.Tears uncontrollably streamed down my face, but Ethan didn't even flinch as he coldly said, “You choose that child over me, over our marriage, so pathetic!”
How long had he been planning this to be this cold?
“I choose you both, I choose the marriage and our baby. We can still make this work” I pleaded. “Baby!” I heard someone scream as Ethan opened the door. The blonde jumped into his arms, trailing kisses on my HUSBAND!
He let her… while I stood watching.
The only emotion I could feel was defeat. Lisa?
Lisa was the lady he was sleeping with? I have been stupid to have let this happen under my obnoxious nose, and I was so certain something wasn’t right between them.
Lisa, his cousin, was his mistress!
“I thought she was your cousin” I said, my voice shaking. “You told me she was your cousin, Ethan.”. “I don’t owe you any explanation again, Ava. I've signed the papers, and move on with your bastard" he said, his voice detached. And with that, he turned with Lisa who had a smug look on her face, slamming the door shut behind him.
I was left standing there, frozen in shock.
This was too much to bear, I didn’t deserve any of this.I fell on the floor defeated. Not only did I lose my marriage today, I also found out my husband has been cheating with a lady I assumed was his cousin.
Seven years, seven years with Ethan and this happens? I felt like breaking down, but I knew I had to be strong for the life inside me, my baby. I held my stomach as the tears dropped from my cheeks. The shrill ring of my phone jolted me out of my crying fit. “Am I speaking to Ava Brown?” a deep, unfamiliar voice asked. I sniffled, trying to compose myself before responding. “Dr. Smith? Yes, it's Ava,” I managed to stammer, subtly clearing my throat in an attempt to mask the tremble in my voice. His urgent tone cut through the air, “Ava, you need to get to the hospital as soon as possible. It's an emergency”.AVAI’ve lost count of how many days I've stayed here. Escaping proved more difficult than I thought it would. The other day I found out that Carter had changed my name, and even created a new passport. How he was able to do that in my unconscious state still amused me. Everything about the house was creepy, from the colors of the room, to the old maid, to the numerous bodyguards. Who knew Carter, Zayn's supposed bodyguard and trusted servant, could be this rich? I’ve not been allowed to leave the house and anytime I ask why, Carter's excuse was that I am not strong enough to start moving out. And when I persisted, he said I didn’t have the right clothes to go out with. And so today, he decided to get me the ‘RIGHT’ clothes. The sound of his horn broke me away from my thoughts. I didn’t need a soothsayer to tell me he’d arrived. I hurriedly went into the room and laid down on the bed. In no time, the door was open ajar and Carter walked in. This has been the normal routine of com
CASSANDRA I stepped out of the house for the first time in two months. I couldn’t leave the kids for a second with the fear that my mother would strike. Seconds, minutes, days and now two months, I have cried every night and woken up to different nightmares. Her face haunted me—I could still remember how she looked when she found out I had betrayed her. Guilt was killing me slowly, and it only worsened when I looked into Zayn’s eyes. I see him struggling every time, the other day I found him crying in the garden. The last time I’d seen him like this was when he lost his mother, and it hurts that I partook in his pain. I was stupid, wicked and misled. Sometimes I felt like coming clean, but that will make him hate me and distance me from the kids I’d vowed to protect with my life. And now, I was in my car, going to see the mastermind behind all this—Rebecca Beckham. My mother. I was done hiding, it was time to stand up to her. It was a three-hour journey and
ZAYN It’s been 74 fucking days since I last saw her. Papers, files, documents, and lots more were scattered on the table, all contained clues and places I’d already searched. But I wasn’t stopping anytime soon.If I have to, I’ll search the whole world for her. I refused to accept that she died. It seemed too convincing. The shrill of my phone rang loudly, and I didn’t bother checking it, “Any news?” I asked, immediately, my voice hoarse from days without proper rest. It was my agent, Noah. “No sir.” He responded, “But one thing is confirmed, she is not in the waters. In all my years of expertise, if someone dies in the water, the current always returns to the body after a few days, a week, or even a month. But in Ava’s case, there’s nothing to show even after continuous searching.”I heaved a sigh of relief. This was what I wanted to hear—that she didn’t die in the water, that’s why I asked them to search. This was also confirmation that Ava was RESCUED. She had been pulled out,
AVA The door creaked open, and I shut my eyes immediately, pretending to be asleep. I could hear footsteps coming closer to where I laid. And then—strong, sweaty hands roamed around my body and I felt like I was being pricked by a needle. I already knew who it was…his fragrance was choking the hell out of me. His hands reached my chest and I stiffened. What did he want to do? My heart was racing and just as I was about to hit his hands off, the shrill of his phone rang. His hands left my body as he stood up, I heaved a deep breath. “Blackwood speaking.” His irritating voice spoke out, and I peeked my eyes open to see him by the window. “I can’t believe it worked. The universe seems to work in my favor.” I froze, my ears listening attentively, I couldn’t hear what the other person was saying but from Carter's response, I already had an idea. “She doesn’t remember a thing, Noah!” He squealed in delight and I tightened my hands underneath the bed. “I’m not let
AVA What was he saying? Christopher? My husband? Why was Carter telling lies to me? Or were we in any sort of trouble?Every nerve in my body screamed at me to react, to shout, to call out the lie—but I didn’t. Something about the way he was looking at me…the way his words were so carefully chosen… told me this wasn’t just a misunderstanding. This was a setup. My heart was racing beneath the calm facade I put on my face. The last thing I could recall was the sound of the gunshot…falling from the cliff and sinking deep into the river. And then…darkness clouded by vision. But here I was, Alive and Awake with Carter spilling lies to me. My eyes scanned around the room before landing back on Carter, he had a smug expression on his face. “Where are we?” I asked, my voice low.My body ached so bad, especially my legs and I could barely sit upright. “My love, we are home.”Home? This didn’t look like home. The vicinity didn’t even look familiar, and it made me wonder where I was.
CARTER.United Arab Emirates, Abu Dhabi, Cleveland Clinic, 9am. The sound of the beeping machines was the only thing that could be heard in the room. I walked to where she was laying down…looking so pale but her beauty remained untouched. She was still as beautiful as ever. Infact the most beautiful lady I have ever seen. I heaved a deep breath taking a seat beside her, my eyes fixed on her. I couldn’t stop wondering— what if I didn’t get there in time? When I called that fateful day, and she didn’t pick my calls, I knew something was wrong. My men confirmed it when they spotted her car speeding out of her house. We tracked her location but by the time I got there, it was already too late. The divers began their work and Ava was found deep in the water. It was a miracle that she still had a faint heartbeat. We made sure to clean all our tracks before leaving the vicinity. Treatment commenced immediately in New York but when I discovered Zayn still believed she was alive I had t
ZAYN. I staggered into the house, my head spinning. This had been my daily routine for two months now, and I didn’t care. Ava has left a deep void filled with darkness in my heart and no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t bring myself to accept she was dead. I ended up getting drunk every day, so I could see her in my dreams. Immediately I stepped into the sitting room, the light was turned, and I covered my eyes with my hands. “Who the fuck is that? Turn off that light!” I yelled, my head pounding. “When are you going to stop this?” Cassandra’s brittle voice spoke up, “For goodness sake, Zayn, it’s 4am in the morning, and you have been in the bar all day.” She continued, “You think this is what Ava would want? You drinking yourself to stupor?” “I …w…wasn’t drinking.” I lied. She scoffed, “You reek of alcohol, Zayn. From your clothes to your scent, everything about you and it’s so infuriating since you’re supposed to be a father of newborn babies.”
ZAYN I heard it. A gunshot. My stomach twisted as I redialed her number, but it wasn’t going through. Without hesitation, I dashed out of my office—running. I didn’t care about the stares I was receiving as I shoved past anyone in my way. The last words of Ava kept ringing in my ears. “Save the kids…” My breath was ragged as I ran down the stairs. I couldn’t wait for the elevator. The panic…the fear… in her tone shook me to the core. They are in danger. My family is in danger! In minutes, I was at the parking lot. I got in my car, my hands trembling as I started the engine. “Nothing is going to happen to them.” I kept muttering to myself, like a prayer I was trying so much to believe. I tried her number once again, but it kept redirecting to voicemail. My heart sank. With one hand on the steering, I called the police. “Ava and the kids are in danger.” I said, my voice laced with urgency, “I need your men at my house, now.” The ch
AVA My eyes widened in shock as tears threatened to fall from my eyes….Casandra…was the…. “Fuck you!” I yelled at her, “What did I ever do to deserve this from you?!”I trusted her.I thought we had a sisterly bond, but she wanted me dead all along. She couldn’t look me in the face and from where I stood I could see a teardrop from her eyes.“Why the hell are you crying, you witch?” I continued, as tears rolled down my cheeks, “Zayn warned me….he did! But I choose to trust you.”Why did everyone I trust always end up hurting me? She raised her face to look at me, “I… I’m sorry, Ava…it wasn’t supposed to happen like this. This is not about you, and I’m so sorry you got dragged into all this, but it has to happen.”What was she saying?“What…”“Oh, dearest Ava,” Sophia cut in with a smirk on her face, “let me answer your questions.”She stepped closer, the gun still in her hand, her eyes gleaming with satisfaction.“Cassandra has never been the angel you thought she was…..remember Am
