AMARA POV.Ace’s head immediately snapped towards my bedside table and his eyes narrowed before looking back at me. I ducked out from under his arms that caged me in, and I sighed in relief. His closeness was doing something to me, and I was glad for this little interruption. I quickly walked over to my bed and opened the drawer, and the ring tone filled the room loudly. The name Lena stood written across the screen, and I looked around at Ace. “Do you mind? I have a call.” I said and I swear I he grunted animalistically. “Who is it?” He demanded and reached for my still ringing phone, but I stepped out of his reach and held it up for him to see instead. “It’s a friend, okay?” I said and he narrowed his eyes at me as he read the name. Whose name did he expect to see on my phone? Jared’s. Fat chance of him calling me.“Can you please leave?” I asked and he squared his shoulders and without another word, he turned towards the door and left. I was about to sigh in relief when he turned a
AMARA POV. What the hell was going on? What were they talking about and what the fuck? Lena was actually Marlena, and she was Ace’s sister?! But… aunt Jenny was her mother and not Clarissa… could she be the result of a previous relationship, but that didn’t make sense as well unless… my head snapped up to the man beside me. He was looking in front of hi as we walked. He was looking pointedly at the woman down the hall that I considered a friend and it dawned on me. Lena was younger than Ace so that meant… “Your father had an affair, didn’t he?” I asked and his head snapped to mine before he quickly looked away. “Yes.” Was all he said, and I felt the bitterness in his voice. That was why Clarissa didn’t look at all happy to see her. “Was it her that phoned you earlier?” He asked but didn’t look at me. I felt him tighten his grip on my hand and realised that I haven’t removed my fingers from his, but for some reason I didn’t want to. “Yes, it was, but I missed the call. I guess I took
LENA POV. “We are werewolves, Amara.” I said and Amara’s face dropped to show no expressions or emotions. Her eyes darted to my father and his Luna before they came to a stop on Ace. He was standing as still as a statue, watching her and I swear he was holding his breath in anticipation. I once again realised how different my brother seemed. I noticed it when I first walked through the doors of the pack house. There was something different about him and it was only when I he looked at her as he took her hand earlier, did I realise why. Mate. Having your mate by your side can change a person. “Werewolves?” Amara said in a flat voice as she took another turn to look at us all. “O-kay.” She said slowly and I could see that she didn’t believe me. “I’m being serious Amara.” I said and she raised an eyebrow at me and snorted. “Look, I don’t know what you are playing at Lena, but this isn’t funny.” Amara said and I pursed my lips and looked towards Ace know
AMARA POV. He must have seen that I was afraid because he spoke to me softly. “I just want to talk.” He said as he took a small step towards one of the office chairs in front of his father’s desk and I felt my heart start to settle when he sat down. “I won’t hurt you, Amara. That I promise you.” He said and I slid down from the top of the couch to sit on the seat again. I swallowed nervously as I looked him over. He had his pants back on but not his shoes. He had put on his dress shirt again but didn’t button it up and his hard muscled abs were taunting me as he breathed while he sat there and I had to force my eyes back to his face. I had to take a breath because my face suddenly felt flushed and hot. “W- What are you?” I asked stupidly and to his credit he didn’t give me a sarcastic answer. “I am a werewolf, Amara.” He said and I swallowed. There was no jokiness in his demeanour and I closed my eyes, taking a deep breath as the truth of the situation started to sink in. “But how?”
ACE POV. A startled gasp escaped her throat before I felt a foot come down hard onto my own and I hissed in pain. It wasn’t that it was actually painful, it was that it was so unexpected that I jolted back to the then and now. I immediately let go of Amara as the look of fear was a bucket of cold water over my lust and I took a deep breath, forcing my wolf to the back of my mind. ‘What the hell, Coal?!’ I chastised my wolf for him momentarily taking over. Coal skulked to the back of my mind with his tail between his legs. I understood his frustration but I didn’t want to scare Amara more than what she already was… For Goddess’s sake! I just promised her a few moments ago that I would never harm her. “WAIT! I’m sorry.” I said when Amara tried to make a run for the door. I grabbed her by the arm and pulled her back towards me. “Let me GO!” She said and practically screamed out the last word. Before I could explain what happened, the office door burst open and Lena stood there with wid
ACE POV. To say that I barely slept is an understatement. I didn’t even come near my bed as I planted my ass in the chair in the bar lounge in the bottom of the house. I was very grateful to my grandfather for thinking of this. A lot of our young wolves tend to reach a rebellious stage and want to sneak about to the human bars and what not and then a fight usually occurs, putting out kind at risk of exposure when the wolves try to show off in front of the human girls. So instead, they can come down here and blow off some steam and if they want to fighting, they can brawl their heart out on the training fields. There are still the few that sneak off though, but if caught then they are punished. Punished! That is what Coal should be getting! Punished. I thought and I felt Coal stir for the first time since I chased him to the back of my mind when he tried to take his chance with Amara. ‘I’m not going to apologize, Ace.’ Coal said and I huffed angrily and audibly at him. ‘Whether or no
AMARA POV. I watched Lena open the door as I sat back against my pillow. My headache was starting to subside but it was still lingering at the back of my head. “Okay, thank you.” Lena spoke, gaining my attention again. She closed the door and walked over to my closet. “You have a visitor at the gate.” She said and opened my closet and started to rummage through it. I sat there dumbstruck for a moment before it sunk it what she just said. “What? My brother is here?” I asked as I got out of bed. I ignored the pounding that returned as my heart thumped nervously. Alex was here. He actually came to see me. “Yes. Go take a quick shower while I get you something to wear.” Lena said and I dashed to the bathroom to do just that. The shower was quick but it made a lot of difference. I felt better but now my stomach was rumbling as I realised that I didn’t eat last night. “I’ll see you later, okay? I love you.” I heard Lena say when I entered my room again. I didn’t have time to ask who she
AMARA POV. “Wood?” I heard Ace’s voice behind me and Alex and I simultaneously turned around to see my shirtless husband standing in the doorway of the house. My eyes travelled over his sweaty chest and I swallowed. Why did he have to look so hot this morning? My brain stilled. What the hell did I just think? I realized with a shock and I looked away from the smug look that he had on his face. It was as though he knew exactly what I was thinking but luckily Alex’s voice came to my rescue. “Milton.” Alex greeted back. Alex briefly glanced at me before he stepped towards Ace and stuck out his hand. “Congratulations with the wedding.” Alex said and Ace raised an eyebrow. He too briefly looked at me before he reached out and took Alex’s hand. “Thank you.” He said and they released their hands. “I would have congratulated you two earlier but this whole situation kind of caught all of us off guard.” Alex said and I groaned internally but Ace smirked at Alex as he came to stand next to me a
AMARA POV. “Lilly, this is my big brother, Alex.” I said and the little girls face lit up. “Hi!” She said excitedly and before Lena could stop her, Lilly had hopped on top of her stool and jumped into Alex’s arms. Shock registered on his face for a moment before he laughed at the girl. “Hello Lilly, it is nice to meet you.” My brother said with a wide smile and he looked to Lena. “I didn’t know you had a little sister; she looks just like you.” Alex commented, smiling but he quickly noticed the silence from everyone until I spoke. “Alex. Lilly isn’t Lena’s little sister; she is her daughter.” I corrected him. Alex’s head snapped to mine before he looked at Lena and then to the little girl again. Lilly still had her wide smile on her face and it was like it was contagious because Alex smiled wide at the girl again. “You really cute.” Lilly spoke shyly and giggled to which Alex laughed too. “Why thank you, so are you.” Alex said back and Lilly blushed in the cutest way possible. I co
SLOANE POV. I ended up following them to the local guest house in town. It was one of the popular places to stay over and I see they made a few improvements on the old place. I parked around the corner that enabled me to see the entrance and the side of the building. Sitting in the car for a few minutes, I watched if they were going to come out again but after fifteen minutes, I knew they weren’t. I was about to get out of the car when a movement caught my eye on one of the balconies. My heart leaped as I quickly sat back in my car. There she was. Amara was talking to that woman. She looked so familiar and it was about a minute longer that I realised who she was. “Lena?” I uttered aloud in disbelief. When did she get back into town? I wondered and I felt anger stir in my chest. I remember the last time I saw her. She caught me sneaking outside of Amara’s house one night. She punched me that my ears sang before she ran me off with a warning that she would kick my teeth in next time if
AMARA POV. We drove through town and soon we came to a guest house. I knew this place. It was one of the oldest buildings in town and a favourite place to overnight in from travellers. “I wanted to ask you this before, but…” I started to speak and Lena smiled sadly and knowingly at me as she locked the car and we walked to the entrance. “Why I don’t stay at the pack house?” She asked and I nodded. “From what I have seen, there is more than enough room.” I said and she nodded. “Yeah, but my mother isn’t welcomed there anymore.” She said and my mouth dropped open. “Wait! Your mom is here?” I asked shocked and she nodded. “Yeah, we left town together back then.” She spoke. “I take it is because of Ace’s mom that she isn’t welcome there?” I asked and I felt awkward and guilty to ask this. To my shock, Lena shook her head. “No, she can go to the pack but the pack members are snappy bastards.” She said and I immediately thought to how Shiela was towards me this morning. “You see, my mom
AMARA POV. “Why would I be mad?” I asked in confusion because I couldn’t think of a reason why I would be mad at her for wanting to be happy. “It’s your brother, Alex.” She said and I felt lost for words. “The Moon Goddess gave me a second chance mate and it is your brother.” She said and it took a moment for what she said to sink in. “My brother is your mate?” I finally spoke after a few seconds. Lena was watching me nervously and I wondered why. This was great news! “Lena, that is great!” I spoke and the look of relief on her face was huge and she burst out crying. I sat there, taken aback. Wasn’t this supposed to be good for her? “What’s wrong? Lena, why are you crying?” I asked as I scooted closer to her and wrapped my arms around her shoulders. “Because Alex is with Emily!” Lena said in a heart broken voice and that was when I realised that she didn’t know and I burst out laughing. Lena looked at me a little offended and started to pull away but I just hugged her again. “No, he
AMARA POV.I watched Ace from across the breakfast table. My cheeks felt like it got sunburned as I kept thinking back to last night. It was the most amazing thing that a man has ever done to me. Well… he was the only man that had even gotten past my panties. Not even Jared managed to get so far except for some heavy kissing and grinding, but I always stopped before it went too far.“Are you okay my dear? You look a little feverish this morning.” I snapped back to present and swallowed down the dryness in my throat and my cheeks burned even more when I saw Clarissa looking at me as she sat next to her son at the breakfast table. She had her teacup raised to her lips but I could see a smirk hiding behind it as her eyes sparkled knowingly at me. “Y-yes, I’m fine.” I said and Ace sneaked a look at me knowingly and winked. I quickly busied myself with my plate. I wasn’t feeling all that hungry… at least not for food. Ever since I woke up this morning, all I wanted was to feel his mouth on
AMARA POV. The swoosh of the blades of the helicopter nearly lulled me to sleep as I sat next to Ace. The evening was actually enjoyable and a smile formed on my lips as I thought back to everyone that I met. I half expected them to treat me like an outcast, but I was warmly welcomed. I wondered if this was due to me being at Ace’s side but there were times that Ace had to leave me alone to speak to other alphas and the people that he left me with were kind. To my amazement, there were others like me too. Human. They were the mates of others that were there, I was the only human that was ‘mated’ with an alpha at that event. It still felt strange to use the words like mating and marking and bonds and so forth but I was getting used to it. The helicopter landed with a soft thud, that stirred me back from nearly falling asleep. I caught Ace smiling at me as I righted myself as I found that I was dozing of on his shoulder and to my honour he didn’t say anything about it. Ace helped me o
SLOANE POV. I watched as Jared stormed away from the Amara and Ace. I had to admit that it felt satisfying to see Jared break Amara’s heart by admitting that he cheated on her… that meant that he only had to get rid of Ace… then there would be nothing standing in his way to get Amara. I watched her walk away with Ace with the Milton seniors behind them and I follow. To my disappointment, I see them get into a helicopter and disappear out of sight. I stood there, trying to think of my next move all the while my father’s voice keeps echoing inside of my head. Warning me to stay away… I shake my head to clear it of his voice. I knew I shouldn’t do this, but I couldn’t help myself. After seeing Amara again, I realized that my feelings for her have never gone away, the medication only buried it deep down. I looked towards the sky where the chopper disappeared to. Tomorrow, I’ll go back to that little bakery where I found out that she worked. It was a perfect setting to see her regularly…
AMARA POV. "Jared!" His name passed my lips before I could stop it. He was standing alone as others passed him on their way to the exit. No sign of Claire anywhere. "Is this really what you want, Amara?" he asked as I stood next to Ace at the entrance to our booth. I could feel Ace tense next to me when Jared spoke. My eyes were tearing up again as I saw the heart broken look on his face as his eyes darted to my hand that was holding onto Ace’s arm and I tried to pull my hand back but Ace clamped it tightly to his side and I let it be. Not wanting to make a fuss with so many people still walking past us and with Ace’s parents standing behind us. “Is it, Amara?” Jared asked again and I swallowed nervously as my heart thundered in my chest. I became aware of eyes staring at me from behind. I knew Ace’s parents were looking at me in anticipation but so was Ace. “Amara?” Jared prodded me on, waiting for an answer. "Yes." I answered as I didn’t know what else to say. I was about to wal
AMARA POV.I looked back and saw Ace speaking into his phone. He had an angry frown between his eyes and I wondered if it had anything to do with Jared being here. Speaking of Jared... he and Claire had just come through the front doors and before we could make eye contact, I turned to face the front again.I startled a moment later when I felt an arm wrap around my waist and for a moment, I thought it was Jared, but it was Ace. He didn’t have a long phone conversation it seems. “And?” I asked and he looked down at me. “I’ll tell you later. Why don’t we enjoy the show.” Ace said and urged me on to walk forward.I sighed but walked on. It didn’t surprise me when the hostess took one look at our tickets and indicated to us to take the elevator up to the box seats where they had the very best view of the theatre. His parents walked on ahead in front of us as we followed them and I noted that my hand hadn't left his and it felt comforting to feel his big hand in hers and it disturbed her
