I tried to open my eyes but the light was too much to handle. I felt my body ache...My arms, my legs, not to mention my abdomen. It felt like a hundred needles were piercing my entire body.
I tried harder and harder and I eventually managed to move my eyelids, the light was too bright but I opened them. I had to...
I looked around. I was definitely not in my bedroom...The place around me looked like a hospital. The walls, as well as the floor, are white. There are curtains in a light shade of blue covering the window. A chair is beside me but there's no one there... I look at my body and my hands are full of cables connected with all kinds of machinery. On the screens, there are strange numbers and measurements and a steady beeping fills the room.
Even though my body is so tired and heavy I have to get up and get the hell out of here... During the last year, I had developed a fear of hospitals... Not the best experiences... Not after what happened...
"Miss!" said the nurse. The truth is that I didn't hear her the first time she called for me. I hadn't eaten for days and I barely slept... I was so stressed these days I couldn't bring myself to sleep, to eat and I wouldn't do anything but sit in this uncomfortable chair waiting...
"Miss, the doctor is ready to see you now.." the nurse's voice brought me out of my thoughts. I stood up and followed her in silence.
"Hello, Evie.." said the doctor in a smooth voice. I couldn't say anything so I just nodded my head for him to continue and sat down in one of the black leather chairs in front of his office.
"Unfortunately the news is not so good for you... Leon is, what I mean to say is that he-he didn't make it.." he said and I felt my eyes water immediately. The next thing I knew everything was black and I could hear voices shouting, but none of these matters since he was dead, my Leon was ... dead.
I woke up and I found myself sitting on a bed in a hospital room. I looked around and I spotted my mother sitting in the chair next to me. She looked up and tears were in her eyes.
"Oh my Evie..." she said in a sad voice and brought me in a bone-crushing hug.
"Mom? What happened?" I asked when I managed to get out of her arms.
"It's best if the doctor tells you, dear..." she said and left the room to get a nurse.
Dr. Collins, the doctor who looks after Leon, came in and looked sad.
"Evie, are you feeling better?" he started but I had a feeling he came bearing more bad news. I nodded.
"Well then, I am sorry to be the one who brings you bad news yet again, but I am afraid to inform you that you had a miscarriage. You'll have to," he continued talking, but I couldn't hear any further. I had lost a child... A child I wasn't even aware I had. I lost the last thing that connected me with Leon...
My eyes watered even at the thought of that day...It was probably the worst day f my entire life...The man I loved and our baby had passed away... And there was nothing I could do; they both slipped through my fingers and left.
I quickly wiped my cheeks and moved the blanket on top of me. I was going to get out of here no matter what...
No one and nothing is going to stop me from getting out of this cursed place.
I made the first step successfully and sure of myself moved forward confidently. Little did I know though, because at the next step I made I fell on the ground taking down with me most of the machinery, something that made a lot and I mean a lot of noise.
Most of the mechanisms in the room started beeping, quite loudly if I say so myself, and I started getting dizzy. The room started spinning. The noise was getting too much. I felt my eyelids close, but then the door opened, and inside walked a man I had never seen before but for a reason, he looked so familiar. He looked at me with wide eyes and came quickly beside me to help me get up. My head was still in so much pain.
Then Lora walked in and another guy, pretty muscular and handsome, walked in behind her...
"Omg, are you okay? What are you doing out of bed?" she said the moment she laid eyes on me and ran towards me to hug me... I couldn't hold back my tears... I needed my best friend at that moment. I was scared and I really didn't like being in a hospital. Not to mention that there were so many people in the room.
I mean who were these people. They do remind me of someone but I just can't put my finger on who they are...
That's when I realized that I don't remember how I got there. What happened?
Lora's words brought me back "Shhhh, relax...everything is going to be fine.." she whispered and hugged me tighter while she rocked our bodies slightly.
"Get me out of here...please...I can't be here..."I whispered slowly enough so as not to be heard by the other two.
"Is everything alright? Do you have a problem with your bed or with the room?" the first one said and his tone showed worry.
Worry that you would express for a person close to you. But I don't know him, not enough.
"No, everything is okay...I just...I want to get as far away from this hospital as possible..." I said in a low voice not facing him in the eyes. He just nodded and moved closer to the bed and sat on the other end of it. I pulled my legs away from him and started panicking. I pulled away from Lora and looked into her eyes. She knew the real reason why I didn't want to be in here and I was counting on her to get me out of here.
I knew that she would be the only person that would tell me the truth no matter what.
"Where am I? Why am I here? What happened? And most importantly who are these people?" I shouted and my eyes started to fill with tears. I am a complete and utter perfectionist and right now my life is so out of control it's frustrating.
I looked up and all of them stared at me as if I was some sort of an alien.
"You-you don't remember what happened, or who he is?" Lora asked pointing at the man on the bed, tears threatening to fall from her eyes. I just nodded in a negative way.
"Someone call the doctor. NOW!" Lora shouted. She was fully crying right now.
The men were in complete shock as well. They were giving each other looks, communicating through only their eyes. They were staring at me from time to time, but no one would tell what is going on.
What the fuck is going on?
Saying that I was so shocked is the one thing that completely described me when I heard Evie say she doesn't remember me. It was fun at first but when I realized that she was deadly serious I couldn't do anything but stand there and look at her like she was some sort of an alien. On the other hand, though, what am I supposed to do, or say? After we called for the doctor we had to exit the room and Lora called her parents. They came as soon as they heard. The moment they stepped foot in the hospital we could hear George yelling at nurses demanding to see his daughter. After calming them down, we sat with them waiting for the doctor. We didn't talk much though, we just sat in silence. You could hear a pin drop. The doctor stepped out of the room and took George and Ellen to his office. The thoughts in my mind were driving me crazy. I could not think straight. I had to think of the deal that would be obviously delayed or maybe even canceled, but I als
The moment Evie's words left her mouth, I felt devastated. And on top of that, her parents agreed with that man, Lockwood, and now not only does she have to marry him, but also, she is to believe that they are in love and willingly engaged! What makes me even more frustrated is the fact that I can't do anything about it! I was walking up and down the corridor of the hospital trying to figure something out. What if I kidnapped her? "Whatever you're thinking I'm pretty sure it won't work. Not when you frown that much…" I heard a voice behind me and turned around fast enough to get myself a nasty cramp. I eyed the man in front of me. He had the typical playboy image, styled hair, designer clothes, and a smirk that makes you feel weak in the knees. If I didn't know better I would say he was a good guy, but Jordan Black was far from it. "Jordan, right?" I looked at Alexander's friend who was smirking at me. "Yes indeed. And you are? I don't
After George talked with the doctor and filled in the paperwork, we were finally able to leave the hospital. Evie had fallen asleep in my arms while we were driving back to my penthouse. George decided it would be best if we started living together so that her memory would -and I quote- 'come back' sooner. I really feel bad but what's done is done and there's nothing I can do about it... I look down at her. She is so calm, so oblivious of everything that's happening around her... When we arrived at the building, she was still sleeping so I just picked her up bridal style, and walked inside. The elevator ride was silent but then I felt Evie moving. She didn't wake up though. She was probably dreaming. She moved again and that's when she started mumbling things in her slumber. She was having a nightmare. "Evie, it's just a dream," I whispered in her ear but she wouldn't listen to me. She started moving more intensely and she was now scr
I was walking down a dark alley and then suddenly a shadow appeared out of nowhere. He lunged at me but I kicked him and started running. I ran and I ran but there was never an end to this hell. Another figure appeared and tried to do the same. I continued running and I looked behind me for a brief moment. Big mistake... The two figures approached me rapidly when I fell on something or actually someone hard. I looked up and I screamed at the top of my lungs. This can't be happening to me. The man held me strongly in his arms. "Leon, let me go! Please..." I said but my voice broke and it came out more like a whisper. "Not a chance sweetheart. You killed me! Now it's my turn!" he growled through his teeth. I looked at him. At the man I once loved... he had changed so much. He had a huge scar on his left cheek and instead of his kind and warming smile he had an evil grin plastered on his face.
After everything that happened, and for the sake of my sanity, Alex actually talked with his dad and they worked some things out. He explained to him that I am his fiance and not just another random girl, and he seems to have accepted that. So, Harry and I got to know each other and turns out he is a really funny and outgoing person. I quite enjoyed my time with him.I can still remember the look on his face the night after their talk.I was sitting on the couch watching TV when the door opened suddenly and in walked Alex with Harry. The one came straight at me kissing my forehead and after a quick and almost inaudible "See you in a bit", I was left alone in the room with Harry. He was standing in the corner of the room looking everywhere but me."I won't bite you if you walk closer." I said breaking the silence."It's not that. After the last time I saw you, I feel so embarrassed. I shouldn
I was sitting on my bed relishing the calm that was in the house. My date with Jordan was a few days ago. He took me to a restaurant, and we actually had a good time. I honestly did not expect him to be so easygoing and fun."And then Xander kicked the door open and left the entire meeting shocked!" he finished his story. We were sharing stories about our friends."No way!" I was laughing so hard. Thank god we were in a more secluded room, or else the entire restaurant would be looking at me funnily."What about you? No fun stories?" he asked and after looking back at mine and Evie's lives, I replied with a story of my own."Well, there was this one time, when Evie and I were really young, and she was over at our place with her parents. We didn't have much fun back then, because our parents -mostly hers- were obsessed with 'proper manners'" I said imitating Helen Harrison as best as I could, "and we neve
Today I was swamped at the office. I kept thinking about Lora and the day just wouldn't go by. I was so out of it.The moment I got home I was greeted by Max, my german shepherd, and then I immediately went to bed. God, today was exhausting...I had been sleeping for a couple of hours when the phone rang. I checked the caller ID and Lora's face popped up on the screen."Angel?" I heard Lora pant. Was she running?"I need help! There- There was someone in my house, and now I'm running, and there's no one around here." She said and I heard her soft sobs. I was out of bed in a heartbeat."I'll be there in a few. Keep moving and go towards the small gas station, ok? The one that's on the way to your house?" I instructed her and grabbed my car keys. There was a long silence, nothing but pants could be heard on the other side of the phone."Angel? Are you there?""Yeah... I'll see you in a bit." I heard her reply as I was getting in my car.
"So how are you keeping up honey?" Lora asked when we sat down at the luxurious sofas in the living room. She kept looking over her shoulders. Derek and Jack were sitting at the other end of the room."Don't worry about them. They look intimidating, but once you get to know them you'll see that they are quite the cinnamon roles!" I joked and the guys send playful glares my way."You know, it's been really weird if I'm being honest, I never really expected to be in a situation like that and now I'm thrown in it. But! Alex has been so sweet and supportive and kind and so understanding through this whole thing and you can't imagine how helpful that has been. I don't know how we used to be before my accident but I can surely tell you that I really care about this man, Lora... I don't know if I'd call this love -it's too early for that- but there is something there... I guess I'll just have to wait and see..." I said honestly and Lora was looking at me dumbfounded.I
