University starts in three days. I am excited and a little nervous at the same time. Nervous, because I have just started at Ravenwood and I don't know anybody. Excited,  because I can't wait to start classes!

My plane landed yesterday, in the evening, and the only thing I have seen of the town so far is this horrible motel room. As I am exhausted I could have slept anywhere. Thanks to jet lag, I slept until noon.

Today, I have to settle my registration formalities. For that, I have to go to the admissions office at the University. What a program! I think I’ve got everything I need for my registration in my little shoulder bag.

I am trying to explore the city, but it will have to wait. I pause for a moment in front of the university.

WHOAAA!!!!

Amazing! The architecture of the building facing me is really impressive. I love this mixture of modern and antique styles. Between the red break building and the sculpted columns, the atmosphere is really different, chic and studious.

I look at the paths lined with trees and areas of grass. It is very welcoming. I feel immediately in harmony with this place. I can already imagine myself spending my time here!

The campus seems huge. It looks like a neighbourhood in its own right. I hope I don't get lost. Thanks to the signposts, I manage to find my way and push open the doors of the administrative building.

But after about fifteen minutes, it becomes obvious: I have no idea where I am. All the corridors look the same, I feel a little lost. Which way should I go?

I hear footsteps coming up behind me. A young girl comes forward. She is very beautiful. She’s got an eye-catching trendy look about her. I can feel her energy.

Unlike me, she seems to know exactly where she is. Maybe she could help me?

“Excuse me….?”

She strides over to me. Everything about her exudes self-confidence. “Hi, are you here to enrol?”

“Yes, how did you know?”

“It’s the only valid reason to being here before the school starts!”

I chuckle at her wit. “I’m looking for the admissions office, but I’m having trouble finding my way…”

“You’re new?”

“Is it that obvious?”

“Let’s say I haven’t seen you around before and I’ve lived here forever. So it’s not hard to guess.”

“That explains why you seem so at ease.” I comment.

She laughs and links her arm through mine. “Don’t worry, I'll show you where it is. I have to go there too…. By the way, my name is Sarah.”

“Celeste Osborne” I introduce myself.

She takes me to the admissions office. Once outside the door, I take the papers out of my bag and Sarah grabs them. “I want to take a look at the options you’ve chosen!”

I watch her until she lets out an excited squeal. It startles me and I stare at her with round eyes. She’s a little weird, this girl.

“You’re enrolled on the course Myths and Legends! Me too!”

“Awesome!” Well, I think it is.

This girl is mysterious, playful and explosive at the same time—the complete opposite of me. I’ll have to adapt. As they say, opposites attract.

Given our differences, this is perhaps the beginning of a great friendship!

Once the formalities are over, Sarah drags me to exit. I have a hard time following her. “Hey… Not so fast!”

Once outside, she drags me along. We sit on a bench in the shade of a large oak tree. “I have a feeling this is new year is going to be thrilling!”

I stay quiet. Unlike her, everything is new to me. I’ll need to find my marks before I feel so enthusiastic.

Her brows furrow. “You seem a little anxious…”

This girl reads me like an open book.

“It’s not easy to move to a city where you don’t know anyone.”

“Well, that’s not quite the case… You know me, now!” she beams. Her enthusiasm is contagious.

“Anyway, thank you very much for guiding me through the labyrinth! I thought I was going to get lost!”

“Don’t worry, I know my way around here, tell me, what do you say to a little tour of the city?!”

“Maybe later, I already have a busy evening ahead…”

“Really, you landed in town yesterday and you already have plans? You don’t waste time, do you!”

“I committed myself to something before arriving. But when I arrived yesterday evening I was so exhausted that I rushed into the first motel that I came across.”

“Judging by the look on your face, it couldn't have been that great!”

I laugh with her. “Thank you!”

“If it’s that bad, I can put you up, until you find something else.” she offered.

“That’s kind of you, but don’t worry. I’ve found a place as an au pair in a local family. I’ll take care of their little girl and, in exchange, they give me accommodation, and it’s also a good way to help pay my school fees.”

“Well, that’s lucky.”

I smile. “I think so too.”

“Won’t it be too far from the campus?” she asks.

“I don’t know, I’m going tonight for the first time.”

“Who’s the family? Maybe I know…”

I hesitate about telling her, I hardly know her. Why is she interested? Well… After all, it’s not top secret… “Bathory, an old family, born and bred here, from what I understand.”

Sarah is transformed before my eyes. She looks like she has seen a ghost.

I put my hand on her shoulder. “Everything okay?”

She gets up quickly and backs away from me. “No, no… It’s nothing, I’ve just remembered i have something to do…”

“Something to do…?”

Sarah is really weird all of a sudden. Well… even weirder than before.

“Yeah, stupid, huh? Sometimes I'm a real airhead!” Yet that’s not the impression she gave me.

She’s already a way off when she gives me a wave. This didn’t sit well with me. I catch up to her and insist. “There seems to be a problem. Did I say something I shouldn't have?”

She pauses for a bit and says, “We’ll see each other in three days when classes start!” And with that, she literally flees. I just don't get it!

I watch her go off feeling doubtful. Ok… she’ll get over it, as my grandmother says!

I slowly get going myself. I’m in no rush, I want to make the most of the sun before nightfall.

I zap the bus and decide to go on foot. With a bit of luck, I'll start recognising the streets and neighbourhoods a bit. As I stroll, I think back to Sarah's curious attitude.I saw how badly she reacted to the name Bathory. Was I imagining it? Maybe I'm just seeing omens everywhere…Anyway, I'll find out soon enough! I'm seeing them tonight about the job. I'm looking forward to discovering where the Bathorys live and what kind of people they are…After going back to the motel and ordering a taxi, when I arrive at the Bathory’s, daylight has long gone. I taher my suitcase out of the trunk and pay the taxi driver. I stand a moment and watch him drive away. As I go through the gates of the impressive property I stop short. This was not what I expected. Ab imposing manor house, in immense grounds, stands before me. Amazing! Must be nice to live in this kind of place. It feels like a real fairy-tale manor! I shiver, tightening my arms against my chest to try to warm myself. At the same time, I contemplate the decor. The huge staircase in front of me takes my breath away.Everything is admirable: the steps are covered with burgundy velvet, the bannisters solid oak, the draperies, the marble floor, the paintings …What a refinement! No doubt about it... This family has means! I quickly pull myself together. I can feel my self-confidence ebbing away with every second... These kind of thoughts aren't helping.I try to put on an attitude as indifferent as his. I don't succeed. Without waiting for my reaction, he beckons me to follow him. "Come on, I'll show you your apartments.”I pull my suitcase up to the staircase. Draven rushes towards me. "Leave it, I'll take care of it.”I thanked him politely. He lifts my luggage without any difficulty and climbs the stairs. I hurry after him.Once at the top. I glance over my shoulder: the hall is even more impressive seen from here. Menu“Celeste, this way…”I follow him again. The sound of melancholy music seems to be coming from far off through one of the doors.“Where's that music coming from? "It's a little sad, but pretty!”"Oh, it's Peter. He loves to play this type of tune.”Melodies, music, what!“Is it him playing?”That's wonderful!Draven carries on until the end of the corridor without answering. Decidedly. he's very mysterious too …I don't ask anything further and rush to catch up with him before I get lost.Given the size of the manor, that could very quickly happen. I'm out of breath. I feel attracted in spite of myself... His eyes, so intense, have changed colour. They seem to have taken on the colour of blood. How can this be possible? I'm still surprised by Laura's comment. Suddenly I feel very uncomfortable. If a kid of her age can guess my feelings, I dare not imagine what her brothers are thinking."But... Uh... Not at, I hardly know him, you know..."Draven coughs discreetly, beside me. I turn to him and meet his amused look. I can't see how to explain my dislike for Lucian to a child of that age. And what's more, she is his little sister! Lucian still has that mocking air that irritates me a great deal. He runs his hand through Laura's hair smirking."Be nice to the little thing, okay? We mustn't play with her."He looks defiantly at Draven who stares back coldly. No, but who does he think he is? He's so pretentious! That nickname he's given me is really contemptuous. And that, I won't put up with it. I clear my throat and tap my fingers on the table to show how annoyed I am. Draven glances in my direction but makes no comment, Lucian just stares, boldly."Stop calling me that.""Okay, little thing." he smirks

As I go down to the dining room in the evening. Today's events are still foremost in my mind. What a day! As if discovering the university and the courses weren't enough. I got to know Sarah better, and I also got a little closer to Peter.Well, it seems that I didn't just make friends either. As I think about Caroline and Logan, I start to worry. If those two always behave like that they haven't finished causing me problems! I hope that things will calm down soon. For the first time since my arrival at the mansion, the dining room is empty. Since everything is ready. I take a seat. I'm so hungry! While I'm wondering whether I should wait or help myself right away, Draven joins me. "Good evening Celeste! So how was your day?""Hectic!""I wasn’t expecting such an answer! Things were as bad as that?""The classes were ok, I only had three hours in all and we mainly talked about the coming year.""Repetitive but essential, no doubt. Did you make any friends?" The engine is still running when I step out.I walk past a confused Draven who must be wondering what I'm doing with his brother. I hasten the pace when I hear Lucian behind me. "Sorry!""Are you okay?""The day was full of twists and turns and didn't end very well!""What happened?""I found myself between Logan and Lucian!""Oh...""Yeah, like you say." I enter the manor. Peter is still with me when I cross the big hall. I decide to go straight to my room.We both go upstairs and as we walk down a corridor, I start talking again. I need to get things off my chest. Lucian's behaviour is one of my main problems. I don't know what to do with him. Becoming his friend seems impossible, and avoiding him is equally unlikely, given that we both live under the same roof."You seem very thoughtful?""I was thinking about Lucian." Sarah's gaze darken at once."We don't get along very well."Sarah sighs. "Allow me to give you a piece of advice: stay away from him as much as possible.""I agree with you, but it's not easy, should I remind you that I live with him?""Yes, seen from that angle, but nevertheless you still don't have to spend all your time with him. The house is big enough, no?""Yes, but he always finds a way of running into me. It's as if he did it on purpose.""Okay, so it's more complex than I thought, between you two." she rubs her chin looking deep in thought."I absolutely have to get him out of my head!""Reason more to get out as soon as you can!" ACCORDING to my schedule, I have only one lesson this afternoon. I hurry, intentionally because I don't want to cross Sarah or Lucian. He drives me mad! And Sarah, well it's different. I like her but she's hiding things from me. And I don't like that.I hurry up to the aisle. At this time, during the lunch break, the gardens are crowded. I try to think of a way to learn more about Amelia Forbes and her sudden disappearance. I am now convinced that the Bathory's are connected with it. I'd like to have more details. After all, there's no harm in wanting to learn more about the family you're living with.If I'm in the slightest danger, I may as well know as soon as possible so as to run for my life! The best thing is to take advantage of my visit to the library to try to glean some information. Perhaps I can find some newspapers that write about the tragedy, as it happened only a few weeks ago.As I get to the library, I am surprised by the vastness of the room. The high ceilings and t

As we continue our lunch, talking, we're suddenly interrupted by someone calling out to us."Hey, hello Sarah, you must introduce me to your new friend!"A young man was so up to us, accompanied by the blonde girl who I saw Lucian with this morning. She is literally dangling on his arm and immediately makes me think of a leech. She doesn't seem happy to see him take an interest in us. Without behaving to ask, he sits down at our table with a womaniser smile on his face.Who does he think he is? Just because he's good looking doesn't give him all the rights and let alone invite himself to our table. He leans towards me, giving me a wink, probably thinking that I'm gonna faint from Ecstasy on the spot. I refrain from rolling my eyes. After all, I did want to make new acquaintances, this may be the chance."Celeste, this is Logan. He's our fantastic quarterback. Logan, this is Celeste. She just moved to Ravenwood!""So, you're new. The professor was as excited as a mollusc dying in the sun. I hope the next ones will be more interesting, otherwise, it's gonna be boring as hell. As I leave the auditorium, Sarah seems to have decided on following me."Come on, let's get some fresh air, I have an hour to kill before my next class." We stop at a vending machine for a coffee, then continue to wander through the corridors."I always get bored the first few days of the term, nothing much happens." It would be easy to stand on tiptoe, grab his shoulders… A sigh of frustration escapes me, and his eyes sparkle. Every second passed in his arms excites me further. My heart is caught in the vice of passion, my body becomes a furnace, and yet, I shiver. He tightens his grip around my waist, leans even closer towards me and looks at me through veiled eyes.
