My mood has been sour since this morning, when Clarissa wished me a happy birthday.

I mean, there is nothing special about it; it’s a day I don’t want to remember since my mother died.

My birthday is my bottom line. I don’t know what I was thinking the day I mentioned it to Clarissa or what I was thinking when I agreed to celebrate my birthday with her just to please her.

Clarissa might not know that my dad intentionally traveled to avoid me making a fuss about my mother like I did the first year she married Clarissa’s mother, though it’s a secret between us. He forgot mom’s death anniversary and went out with Clarissa’s mom. I got so angry that I almost made him lose millions of dollars in the company then.

I have seldom cried since I became an adult, but I have no idea why I was tearing up this much right in my office today.

I just came out of the bathroom, where I went to wash my face, when I heard the sound of high heels. I don’t need a soothsayer to tell me that was.
