Chapter 64: Fractured Alliances

Xander's POV

The tension in the council chamber is thick enough to choke on. I stand before the pack elders, their weathered faces etched with disapproval and barely concealed frustration. Elder Thorne, his silver hair gleaming in the firelight, leans forward, his voice a low growl.

"Alpha Xander, you leave us no choice. If you continue to refuse a new mate, we will be forced to challenge your leadership."

A ripple of shock runs through the room. I clench my fists, fighting to keep my voice steady. "You would risk civil war over this? Our pack needs unity now more than ever."

"What we need," Elder Marissa interjects, her green eyes flashing, "is a strong, stable leadership. Your obsession with finding Lyra has left us vulnerable. The other packs are circling, sensing weakness."

I open my mouth to retort, but a commotion outside interrupts us. The doors burst open, revealing Asher. His form flickers and blurs, power radiating off him in waves that make the air crackle with electricity.
