Olivia's POV
I ran. As fast as my legs could carry me. If I were a strong wolf, it would have been a different thing, but the strength of my wolf was barely any different from the strength of a human. The sounds of the guards were getting closer, and I knew that if I didn't do anything soon, I would be caught and a date worse than death awaited Elana and me. My heart was scared for her and I found myself worried. “I think she went over there.” I heard one of the guards yell in the direction that I was running in. I quickened my pace and soon found a waterfall. I hid at the back and waited for a while, the water should be able to mask my scent until the guards had given up on their search or at least changed directions. “I don't think so. We should go back to the palace. It's already late, and you know how close this is to the Lycan borders. We don't want their crazy mysterious animal king to hurt us.” another one said, and I was relieved that they were changing course. After I had waited for another thirty minutes to one hour, I carefully made my way out of the waterfall and tried to climb so I could also find a way to hide from the lycans. Just as I set my foot on a steep wrong, I missed my step and was sent tumbling head first into the water. The last thing I remembered was the muffled sound escaping from my mouth and then tasting the metallic feel of my own blood mixed with salty water. When I regained consciousness, I was in a room. It was one of the most beautiful rooms that I had ever seen, but somehow it didn't feel strange. I felt so strongly that I had been in this room before. The blinding lights caused a wave of headache to hit me as I tried to sort out my thoughts and adjust my eyes to the brightness of the room. The door suddenly opened and a very handsome man with a tanned face came in. “Oh, miss. You are finally awake. I am truly pleased about that,” he said, immediately he noticed that I was awake. “Where am I? What happened? How did I end up….” “One question at a time, miss. You haven't changed one bit Mistress.” the man said, I looked at him shocked. He didn't sound like he was a stranger to me. “Do I know you from somewhere?” I asked him, my heart nearly jumping out of my chest. “Yes you do, but you'll understand that later. It is not in my place to tell you the truth about the questions you ask me.” he responded calmly, leaving me more confused than I was. “Where am I?” I asked him, willing myself to not ask a barrage of questions like before. “You are home. Next question.” he asked. “What's your name?” I asked him. “I am Alexander.” he answered curtly. “How did I get here?” I asked him, genuinely concerned about that. I silently hoped that the guards from my lack had not found me after I fell in the water and taken me here. At the thought of my fall in the water, my hands instinctively reached for my head, and I found that it had been heavily bandaged. “You were found floating in the water by the edge of the pack, our alpha found you and brought you here.” he explained, and I heaved a sigh of relief. “Oh.” the sound escaped from my lips, barely more than a whisper. “I advise that you do not leave your room or go anywhere. You might find the environment slightly hostile, just be patient.” he said, but the look on his face made me feel that it wasn't just the environment that he had been talking about. “Thank you.” I replied, too scared to ask him anything else for fear of what would happen. As soon as he left, I got up and looked around for the nearest possible escape. The door wasn't locked, which made it a lot easier for me to leave the confines of my room. I was definitely in a palace because this was the most beautiful place I had ever seen. I was almost changing my mind, but the uncertainty of the fate that awaited me if I stayed made me want to leave. I made my way to what, I thought, was the entrance, but it only turned out to be the kitchen. I heard sounds and immediately hid behind a counter. Several servants dressed up, and they looked like they were delivering food for a special occasion. “The alpha has never wanted to kill something so big to celebrate. This must be truly special.” I heard one of the servants say, and a cold chill ran up my spine. The alpha was planning to kill me. Elana's sacrifice had been in vain, as it now looked like I was being dealt the same fate as I had been in my pack. The only thing that was different was I was not going to sit back and watch myself get treated badly anymore. I got up and continued on my escape, stopping at intervals to steady myself whenever the wave of dizziness hit me. When I finally managed to go outside, there was a frenzy of activity going on, and I wondered what the festival was that made them even want to kill me for it. Finding my way to the back of the house, I tried climbing the fence, but I couldn't. I looked around for a tree that was close to the fence and eventually found one. I managed to climb it, cutting my hand with the sharp edge of a rock. “Shit.” I cursed. I felt a sweet scent hit my nose, followed by a strong pull that nearly knocked me down the tree. “Mate” I heard my wolf growl with a strength that I had never heard before. I felt myself dizzying out again. “Took you long enough to find me.” I heard a man's voice just before everything went black.Chapter 6 Olivia's POV “How much longer do you think she would sleep for?” I heard a man's voice, the same registering in my head now as the same voice I had heard, just before I passed out.“Master, you have to be patient and give her time. We talked about this and you agreed.” I heard the unmistakable voice of the other man who had earlier introduced himself to me as Alexander.“Shhhh, she's waking up.” the man said and I opened my eyes. The blinding lights nearly blinded me, accompanied by one of the worst headaches I had ever experienced. I quickly closed my eyes and tried to adjust my sight to the light. “Turn off the light Alexander.” he said. “Who are you?” I asked the man, meeting his gaze for the first time.As soon as I set my eyes on him, it was almost like I had seen him before, flashes of a life I never knew passed through my head and I knew that whatever we had been the best romance I had ever experienced. “We have been waiting for you to come back.” the man said,
Chapter 7Augustus's POV “Quit kicking me” I yelled at her. She was obviously going to make this hard for me. Even though I was supposed to be gentle with her, the cluelessness on her face was pushing me overboard. “But, I don't want to go anywhere with you!” She yelled at me while furiously slapping my back with her hands. Infuriating more than I have ever experienced. I dropped her roughly and pinned her to the wall, trapping her fingers in between mine and locking them right above her head. “Quit being so feisty. This isn't the first time that you are meeting me.” I snapped at her, making sure she saw the fury in my eyes. Alexander had talked about my temper even though I was struggling to work on it. Her refusal to make things any easier than the other lifetimes, coupled with the thought of this being my only chance at ever living a fulfilling afterlife, pushed me beyond my limits. “I am willing to entertain you. I saved your life. You are not going anywhere until I say so.”
Chapter 8Olivia's POV How dare he?I thought to myself angrily. There was no way I was going with him anywhere, he had seemed serious about it, but I doubted he had anywhere else to be. I didn't know how much time had passed, but my door was thrown open, and he matched in again. Not knowing what he wanted, I squared up, ready to dish out the venom in my soul. “So, I haven't changed my mind about the journey. I just realized that you are not ready, and you have no idea the kind of life I am about to introduce you to. Alexander will teach you for the next one week, make sure to learn all you can...”“What exactly are you? You live in a lonely castle right in the middle of the evil forest, what do you want to reach me? How to swing from trees?” I fired at him. At that moment, I could have sworn that I saw the fire come alive like an active volcano in his pupils. He walked to me and I began to move back involuntarily, not stopping until my back was pressed to the wall. “You are test
Chapter 9Olivia's POV Four months later“Stand straight and aim at the target,” he said, his voice vexing me as he helped me straighten my arm to aim better at the target. “I am doing all I can. I don't know how else you want me to stand straight” I snapped at him, too exhausted to do anything else and also frustrated that nothing I was learning today was entering my head. My life had slowly taken a turn from what it used to be into something more interesting, I was beginning to enjoy the stability of knowing what I would do for the day. “If you don't stand right, you can easily be taken out by a target, why are you so stubborn?” He asked me, his frustration showing on his face too. “Fine,” I said, my voice slightly elevated and faced the target, without even waiting to be ready, I released the bow and the arrow lunged forward. The arrow missed the target totally and landed on the floor. I turned around to meet the furious face of Augustus. His eyes were hard, and he looked at
Chapter 10Olivia's POV My body swirled with emotions, one that I never knew existed. My toes curled up, and I felt the overwhelming urge to wrap my hands around his neck. He seemed to understand what I was feeling because his tongue invaded my tongue and my knees nearly buckled. Seeing myself responding to him with such shameless abandon made me feel upset with myself. I didn't like him, I hated him even, but he could evoke emotions in me more than anyone else I've met in my life. “You'll learn to obey me next time,” he said, and I was snatched out of my reverie to face the reality of him wearing a smug look on his face, looking down at me. It was then I realized that his lips were off me and I had totally fallen for his stupid games. I pretended to have hated it and wiped at my lips furiously, nearly causing it to bleed. The fire of desire in me immediately turned to the fire of rage, and I was determined to let him have a lick of everything.“You are not much of a good kisser.
Chapter 11Augustus's POV I took a long swig of the bottle in my hands, willing myself to feel some sort of intoxication, but it was of no use. Food and drinks had no importance in my life now because of the curse, but even if they did, I doubted that alcohol would have been able to douse the embers of lust that I felt. Even though she was not the same as my Ariel, there was something about her that would never change. She was fearless, it was one of the things that had attracted me to her at first, her eyes lit with the rage that I knew only I could evoke from her. Somehow, she had managed to curse us both, to be slaves to our love and her hate for me. “Help!” I heard the voice, clearly in my head. I got up, thinking if it was the alcohol that was finally having an effect, but, I didn't feel drunk. “Hel…help me” I heard the voice clearly and knew that it was Olivia. Alexander ran in almost at the same time, his face etched with worry and concern. “My king, I can't find the mist
Chapter 12 Olivia's POV My body convulsed in pleasure and I grabbed Augustus, my fingers digging into his back as I orgasmed on his fingers. He held me in place until I was done and the realization of what I had just done, dawned on me. My eyes were tightly shut and even though it was dark, the moon illuminated the entire forest. “Are you okay?” He asked me, his voice breaking my train of thought. “Yes…" I mumbled, trailing off. I felt so weak and tired, the new emotions that I had been introduced to slowly lulling me to sleep. I could barely move a muscle and lay there, trying to catch my breath. Even though I knew the activity had made me tired, having to ward off a hungry lion for almost an hour was no easy feat, and I was glad that Augustus came at the time, he did. Even if I was not going to let him know. Mustering all the strength that I had left, I tried to get up. It was already late, and we should have gone to bed hours ago. Chapter 13Olivia's POV My eyes flew open, I didn't know how long I had slept but everywhere seemed oddly familiar. I knew this was not the room I had fallen asleep in. I looked around, and my eyes caught the picture of a woman hung on the wall. Her eyes were captivating and even though she looked nothing like I did, I felt like I was looking at myself from a different age. I stood up and looked around, surprised that even though I knew that this was my first time here, I could swear that this was my home. The door was thrown open, and a strange man walked in. I tried to back away, but I couldn't move, instead, I walked to the window and stood there, my back turned to the strange figure. I willed myself to turn away from the man, his clothes were exotic, but they looked as if they had been brought straight from an ancient museum. “Ariel, do not turn your back on me!” The man barked, but I didn't feel the need to answer him, instead I shook my head. “I am not Ariel, you have the wr
Chapter 17Olivia's POV My body froze when I heard a female's voice in my room. I turned around to find the mossy stunning woman looking at me, she was seated on one of the sofas in my very exquisite bedroom. Her eyes were blue, and I could see the raw strength coursing through her veins. “Seems like we both have a man who doesn't give a damn,” she said, laughter playing on her face. “Who are you and what are you doing in my room?” I demanded, grabbing a bread knife from the dining table and clasping my robe tightly together. “I should be the one asking you who you are, don't you think?” She said, and I stood there, not knowing exactly what to introduce myself to her as. “I thought as much. Augustus does not love you, he is only using you so he doesn't lose his right to making it to the afterlife, you should know better than to be deceived like that, little girl” she said and got up, her intimidating frame towering over me, but I didn't care, and I was not scared. “I don't care
Chapter 16Olivia's POV My body shifted comfortably on a soft, lofty bed. I curled up with one of the softest pillows I had ever used as I battled to stay asleep. Suddenly, a searing pain tore through my head, so badly that I stayed completely still, not even daring to shout, hoping that it would pass soon enough. A bell rang right above my head and I nearly punched through the bed covers. The headache finally calmed down, and I managed to get up, opening my eyes in what felt like a long time. My body was hurt, almost like I had been asleep for a long time. The room began to register in my brain, and I realized that I had never seen this room before. There were sounds outside which could only mean that I was where there were plenty of people. The events of the past nights hit me with recognition, and I clutched my head again, trying to bear through the heart-wrenching pain it came with. Augustus! The door opened and a beautiful young woman came in. She looked like she was just aro
Chapter 15Augustus's POV Two Days Later“We are on our way,” I said and carried Olivia into one of the sleek black vans that was now parked at the front of the castle. I had mixed feelings about my sudden decision to return to the palace amidst the rumors going on, but I needed Olivia to be in a safe space. “Everything is ready, Your Majesty. The official ambulance that you requested to ride in with the queen is now waiting too. He arrived just a few minutes ago” Alexander reported to me. He had returned barely a few hours ago and had now set up for movement. The doctors and nurses carried Olivia on a stretcher carefully and took her to the royal ambulance. I grabbed a bottle of water from the fridge and took a deep breath, looking at the house one last time and seeing the memories that I had made her. "We have to go your majesty. Shadow hunters have increased around these parts, and we do not want to get up with them. I nodded my head and matched out, followed closely by Alexan
Chapter 14Augustus's POV When I saw her struggling on the bed, I knew what was happening to her, and the dread of what happened next scared me. It was the same thing, every time and I regretted having not told her the whole truth before now. I grabbed her and shook her awake, but she looked at me in horror, a look I had thought every time that I had grown accustomed to but always broke my heart. She was terrified of me now. Talking to her was of no use and I felt myself losing her again. I couldn't let it happen, and I tried to get to her, but she ran away, slipped and hit her head. “I am not Ariel” she murmured as I tried to get her. Her head was bleeding badly, and she had passed out. I carried her in my arms and marched down the stairs. Alexander joined me as soon as I got out and kept asking me what I did to her, his tone irritating me with every step I took. “Why don't you shut up and do something useful?” I barked at him. He didn't say anything else after that, instead,
