The first time I ever caught a glimpse of that horrid Erik Graham was on the day before my first ever spring fashion show since I joined his company.
He was sitting comfortably in the makeup room just as we were finishing up on the preparations for the big day and was successfully causing some kind of major uproar among all the stuff and models alike just by being in there with us. Apparently the jerk was handsome enough to make it to the top list of New York's super handsome men and even though I wasn't his biggest fun as of yet, I still had a heart to admit that he was indeed good-looking.
His eyes were a striking blue, like an ocean or one of those polished blue rubbies you find decorated on Christmas trees. His perfectly sculpted jawline had a hint of an upcoming beard, well more like a stubble actually which made him look even more handsome. His hair that he'd allowed to grow to shoulder length level, was dark brown and curly and it fell all over the place in a messy kind of way. He was wearing a plain white t-shirt which was a bit tight at the arms, a pair of ripped blue jeans which had only two cuts, one across his thigh and the other one on his knee. On his feet were sueve brown boots left unzipped. I couldn't tell if it was for style or just plain laziness to do so.
The guy was simply gorgeous and he would have easily won all of my awards for the most wonderful person alive if it weren't for his infamous arrogance which was evident from the way he kept staring at us like we weren't even worth his time. Infant, there were always rumors of how he'd go into fits of rage for the silliest of reasons and then go on a firing rampage where he'd fire whoever was unfortunate enough to be in his way during these raging outbreaks of his.
And that's why the people who knew him well enough, stayed clear of him and made sure to keep conversations with him as minimal as possible. The ladies however, were still dumb enough to keep doting on him regardless of knowing about his cruelty and now that he was even there, sitting around in the same room with us, the said ladies had gone and had a field day of showing off their gorgeous bodies and curly blonde hair to him with hopes that, one of them would catch his eye and maybe get lucky enough to date him for a few weeks or less depending on him mood.
I on the other hand, didn't even understand why he was even there in the first place. I would have much rather he left and let us work in peace, but it's not like I was in any position to question him or his weird reasons seeing as I was only a mere assistant. But even if I wasn't just a mere assistant, I doubt I would have had much to say to the most obnoxious jerk alive whose only mission in life was to make all the people around him as miserable as possible.
I think it's quite obvious at this point that I don't really like arrogant men.
In any case, our CEO decided to stay for as long as he wanted. Infact, he stayed for two hours straight and I swear I was about to have a fit from all the shrieking and giggling the girls were emitting whenever he so much as raised an eyebrow.
It was ridiculous to say the least and it was probably the most irritating thing I had to witness in a working environment in my entire life.
My prayers finally got answered when Mr handsome suddenly got a call and decided to leave. He summoned a bunch of people to follow him as he went like he was some kind of medieval prince who could never take a step forward if he didn't have a bunch of attendants failing all over the place for him. I swear he was so obnoxious that I had to fight several urges to follow him and slap him across the head. I did no such thing of course because I still needed to keep my job and that man seemed insane enough to send me off to the worst prison possible if I dared to ruffle even one strand of his perfect hair.
He was gone though so at least that was good enough for me. I went back to restocking the latest eyeliners to the appropriate tables but didn't even go two minutes into it before my friend hazel came rushing at me with a smile bright enough to go up against the sun. I didn't need to ask what had gotten into her because the answer was pretty obvious from all the dreamy smiles from everyone around me. I fought the urge to roll my eyes at the whole lot of them.
"Well isn't he the most beautiful creature you've ever laid eyes on?" Hazel squealed into my ear in what she thought was a soft whisper. I winced as her voice pierced through my ear and probably left some sort of irreparable damage to my eardrum.
"Yeah, he is definitely gorgeous." I said with an eye roll and started off to finish with restocking the latest eyeliner. Hezel didn't seem to notice my apparent uninterest in whatever she had to say about that man and so she just went on and on about how handsome he was and how everyone around was in love with him.
But at some point during her mindless droning, she realized that I had stopped listening and now she just stood there, staring up at me like I had just done something so terrible it merited punishment. "Are you even listening to me Ashanti?" She asked, her whole face furrowed up with several lines as she regarded me.
"No I can't say that I have but then again, I don't really care about that man and whatever it is he has going on. Am too busy for that and I would much rather you left and let me finish." I replied, nonchalantly which only earned me a death stare.
"You are so boring ashanti, I swear to God!" She exclaimed and stomped off to find whomever would be happy enough to share in her enthusiasm about that horrid man.
I sighed loudly and got back to work.
The sun had long set and the sky was already dark and twinkling with a number of stars that had come out and attached themselves to it like tiny jewels by the time I slipped out of the office and started for my car which was parked a good ten minutes away from my office in the main parking lot.It was fairly dark out by the time I was cautiously making my way around multicolored lamp posts with golden lights shining out of them and onto the cold pavement. The air was silent and freezing outside with a light cover of frost hanging around everywhere, creating some sort of haze like appearance that enveloped every single flowery shrub and trash can into it's shadowy embrace. It was deserted out there too, empty like a graveyard or one of those scenes from a horror movie that gives you the creeps just by looking at it even without any ghosts or other supernatural creatures poking out of the shadows. It was unnerving in a way, but only slightly because I
The arrived at the Golden Plaza at least four hours before the event had started, but still found the entire square of it swarming with people as they got ready for the high and mighty society fashion show. There were people everywhere, from exhausted looking staff milling about with heaps of designer clothes slung over their shoulders to overexcited supermodels in short denim jeans that exposed their super tanned thighs and clad tops that barely covered much of anything. And then they were the photographers, swarming around everywhere and clicking away their cameras at everyone from some of the most famous people in their designer clothes and overpriced shoes to the said models as they showed off their endlessly long limbs clad in the skimpiest of outfits. They all appeared very posh, intimidating even as they floundered about in their expensive couture designs, making me feel so unworthy in my simple flowery dress I got off at a buy two get one free deal from a lo
The air surrounding the three of us suddenly grew tense as I gasped softly, turned around slowly and then fixed my eyes on the man standing opposite me with the most gorgeous, yet overpowering body I had ever seen on anyone. His all powerful blue eyes had me frozen into place, dissecting me into tiny bits and pieces with each blink until I was nothing but a puddle of knotted nerves and anxiety. And so I stood right where I was, just a few metres away from the exit that would have provided me my freedom if only I had reached it in time. I cursed myself for not walking faster the moment I was given a chance to get out of there, but I also knew deep down that I wouldn't have gone far enough even if I had wings to fly me out instead of legs."Uhh sir, was there anything you wanted me to do for you?" I asked in a trembling voice as his fierce gaze bore into my own, piercing right through me until it sliced my wildly, helpless beating heart in two. It ble
I spent the next hour or two following Erik around like an obedient little puppy as he mingled around and made small talk with several famous people with whom I was far below status to even be allowed anywhere near a sniffling distance of. Among them were actors, actresses, musicians and those business tycoons we only get to read about in magazines and watch on TV.They talked and laughed about subjects that neither concerned nor interested me in anyway and so I tuned them out, opting to watching my fellow work force as they moved frantically about, taking care of a few finishing touches to their preparations as the show geared on around us.It goes without saying that I didn't fit in with that kind of crowd, I was completely out of place which got me to wonder why Erik thought it was a great idea to bring me along in the first place. Well unless his intention was to humiliate me in front of his rich guests as a way of putting me in my place which i
I got away from Erik as soon as the show ended and headed straight to where I had parked my car earlier that afternoon. There, I found Hazel leaning against the said car with her foot tapping inpatiently against the pavement as she eagerly waited for me. She stood up straigher as soon as she saw me approach her and I only needed to look at those huge eyes of her's once to know that I was in for a major questioning."Well if it aren't the best news gatherer we have in the whole company, are you here to get all the information about what happened earlier like a true journalist?" I asked her with a mocking smile as soon as I reached her and went ahead to unlock my car door. She rolled her eyes at me and then turned around to give me an accusing look as if what I said wasn't actually the truth."I don't see why you keep scowling at me Hazel, you and I both know that you are only here to ask about Mr Graham and why he pulled me away from you like that."
The next few days following my so called 'date' with Erik turned out to be such a hassle. I found that I had suddenly turned into some kind of celebrity overnight among my peers at work whose only interest was to find out what my actual relationship with him really was. I didn't know either as it turned out but apparently, no one listened to any of my explanations and just went on to assume that I was probably his latest fling.I hated being associated with that word. I wasn't anyone's fling and I sure as hell didn't want to be Erik's fling if at all I ever decided to do flings at whichever point of my life. He wasn't my type of guy, he was way too rich for me and didn't really fit into my simple way of life, but as it turned out, I was still powerless to stop the wild gossip and complete jealousy that haunted my every move just from that one harmless evening. It was the most frustrating thing I had ever had to experience and it got even worse on th
Once we arrived at my apartment building, Erik dropped me off right at the entrance and then had that Mafia looking driver of his, drive him off so fast it was as if he needed to get away from my neighborhood just so he could save his life. It's not like I could ever blame him really because my neighborhood isn't exactly the most secure of places to live. Instead, its one of those rundown apartment complexes and I'm pretty sure half my neighbors either sold drugs or were at the very least involved in some kind of promiscuous activities. I hated living there too but it was still the best I could come up with considering how expensive it is to find decent accommodation in New York. And it wasn't that bad either, it's not like we ever encountered shootings or kidnappings on a daily basis. The worst one could ever have to go through in there would be to lose a TV or some cheap jewelry at the hands of some petty thieves who'd probably just swap it for a roll of mar
"Ashanti! I want to see you in my office now." Madeline's Vernon laced voice pierced through the air like a sharpened sword, bringing my fast moving feet to an abrupt halt just as I made it halfway to my desk.I stood frozen in place as thoughts of whether I should call Erik or not evaporated right out of my mind like morning dew, leaving only about twenty pairs of eyes from ten other colleagues of mine staring up at me with looks that either pitied me, or were bottom line scared for me.It was never a good thing to be summoned by Madeline Ford at whichever part of the day or for whatever reason. It was a horrible thing that every person who worked in our department thrived to avoid with everything they had. She was a bitter woman who for reasons only known to her, was always in bad mood.Being called to her office was never for anything like a pat on the back for a job well done or for a nice conversation about the future projects assigned to us, it
