RAAAWR!
A roar ripped through the caverns as the ground beneath their feet began to shake violently. Many people from both sides of the battle looked around trying to find what kind of ferocious beast could emit such a blood curdling sound.
"I haven't heard a roar like that in thousands of years."
"I've never heard that kind ever!"
Their eyes scanned the surroundings. Looking side to side, up around the cavern ceiling, only to find nothing. The monstrous sound was far to loud for anyone to mistakenly assume they had just imagined it.
The rumbling earth began shaking harder and harder although you couldn't physically see any movement, the people could feel the movements underneath their feet from whatever was coming, like a slithering serpent snaking it's way through the grass. It felt as though the very earth beneath their feet may collapse at any moment. If anyone in the vicinity were to claim the gods were angered and unleashing their fury on the city, many wouldn't doubt the words, especially if any were to discover how Markous and the other members of the council had treated Alesia.
...
All until it ceased. No more rumbling, no more monstrous roars. Silence for a solid thirty seconds, until the closest well erupted. A giant serpent burst from the hole in the ground sending dirt and brick flying into the air, ripping open a hole twice as large as it's original size.
"Wha-!?" People of both side jumped back in surprise. Never had any witnessed such a creature despite there being an abundance of rare and undiscovered monsters throughout the darkness.
The creature slithered up into the air until it coiled down into a resting position above the well.
"What the fuck is that?"
"Is it a dragon?"
"But it doesn't have any wings."
"Calm down everyone it's just an illusion created by magic!" A man roared above the fears of his comrades.
The serpent slowly turned it's head to face him, arching it's neck backwards.
"I-It's just water!" One called out, though despite his bold declaration, his voice clearly was lacking in confidence.
Sure water. Have over a twenty foot wave collapse on you, see if you have air in your lungs still, if your even able to fight the rip tide. Take a quick blast in the face from a pressure washer, see how much that tickles. Best example though is a water cutter. Nothing but super pressure water, yet it can cut through brick, steel and damn near any material for that matter.
Like the snapping of a rubber band the creature shot forward towards a small group of knights. Their armor meant nothing to it. Where men had been standing was now the lower halves of several people, those taller men even less so. Legs dropped to the ground, as though they'd appeared out of thin air. A few of their arms, some hands, fingers, and swords cut in half scattered about. Their owners completely pulverized out of existence. The serpent moved about the crowd carefully selecting it's targets ensuring no friendlies were harmed by it's attacks. After assaulting several small groups of knights the serpent returned to it's original position above the well. Many people would think nothing of this, but to one of the knights familiar with magic, this was seen as both great comfort, and a horrifying reality.
Water magic couldn't exist without water. Sure other types of liquids could be controlled by magic users in it's stead, but either or when the supply was gone, the magic was gone. Yes there was the fact magic users could summon water at will too, but a magical creature of this size would need a source even for the best of water wielders.
Cut off the source, metaphorically cut the head off the snake. The only issue was the fact the well was on the other side of the road. And the area was thickly embattled from both sides clashing, and the creature would obviously attack those closest to it. Calling it difficult to reach would be far from an understatement.
"Someone seal the well!" The other option would call for a large destructive force, do enough damage to the body and the magic coursing through the creature would be severed and unable to maintain form. Where as if one person even slightly competent in earth magic could simply fill in the well cutting off the water supply.
"I got it!" One knight cried out rushing through the crowd cutting down a few enemies in his path.
....
A few problems here. If it were a mindless beast that would in fact be one thing unto itself. But it's being controlled by another being, one clearly with both ears and a mind. You may as well drop your pants, shove a flare up your ass and walk around flapping your arms like they're chicken wings, because you've just done everything but paint a bullseye on your back.
The serpent honed in on the man immediately turning to face him.
"FuuUUUCK!"
A sound very similar to a fire hose being opened up, could be heard by those in close proximity. Though by sound they were very similar, there was no comparison. It hit them man mid torso . Like a wet paper bag being held out stretched tight and having a machete thrown at it would stand a better chance. The man's chest and up separated from his body sending him spiraling towards the ground. While flipping through the air he had the pleasure of seeing his own ass fly off into the distance hitting one of his comrades in the back of the head.
...
'Yea saw that one coming.' The man who originally called out for magic users grumbled.
The first gate."Son of bitch... Mocking me.... Fucking cock sucker-"
Vale hadn't moved the entire time. Sitting crouched on the ground with her palms planted on the brick road. Though the soldiers of The Black Guard had no idea what it was precisely she was doing besides angrily cursing someone the entire time, barely taking the time to breathe. They figured it best to cover her with whatever means they had. Though it didn't require much since it just looked like a little girl lost that final bulb lighting up her brain.
The twins both stood glaring at the giant battered and bruised, they cut, chopped, and stabbed only for him to endure, and their own injuries were simply building up. Though there were excellent healers mixed amongst their group, despite their best efforts they've been unable to keep up with the giant's seemingly endless regeneration. So long as the battle raged on, so would his blood supply. Calling this fight an uphill battle would be like calling Mt. Everest a small hill.
"Got any great ideas?" Lala asked, her breathing both haggard and pained. She stood barely clutching her sword with one hand, and her ribs in the other.
"I thought you always said leave the thinking to you?" Laura smirked as a small trail of blood seeped from the corner of her mouth. For some time they've been enduring both external and internal injuries, that would have most men fall unconscious from the pain alone.
"Guess that's a stupid question."
....
"Wait are you saying the possibility of me having ideas is stupid?"
...
"No."
"Oh Okay."
"I'm saying you're stupid."
...
"You bitch!"
The giant once again could only watch on finding himself too amused to attack the bickering twins. Even a brute like him couldn't say no to watching a cat fight.
"Well perhaps me informing you of you're short comings will assist you in correcting the issue."
"If I wasn't so tired I would break my sword off in your boney ass!"
"You know our asses are about the same size. And besides Master likes my ass quite a bit."
...
"Which means he likes mine!"
"Na he said your ass is as flat as a pancake."
"WHAT THE HELL!?"
"Just kidding." Lala giggled
The twins breathed a sigh turning their gazes back to the behemoth who they swore they heard emit a chuckle at their expense.
"Well we really let him down didn't we."
"Apparently so." They both breathed an even deeper sigh. "You don't suppose that whole no sex thing was a joke by any chance?"
"God do I hope so. You can't just get someone addicted and then cut them off cold turkey." The two's shoulders drooped to an all time low. Apparently it wasn't even the battle that was going to defeat them but the lack of action that was bound to follow.
BUT!
As if on cue the rumbling trumpets of salvation could be heard from beneath their feet. Though the twins had absolutely no idea what the sound was and hopped back backwards sensing extreme danger. The monster of a Vampire on the other hand stood his ground readying the deceased Happy Flower's club arm, looking around a little confused and slightly alarmed. Though he was indeed a big dumb lug, even he could sense whatever was coming presented a good amount of danger.
"HAHA EAT MY ASS!" An all too familiar wail could be heard from behind.
"HAHAHA JUSTICE SHALL BE DELIVERED!" Vale cried out as though she were a poor soul who had been denied justice by the courts for far too long.BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM!The ground erupted all around both the twins and the behemoth of a Vampire. The girls quickly turned their backs to one another taken by surprise, readying themselves as best they could considering their injuries. Their eyes caught a glimpse of a creature emerging from the earth, and it was almost instant. The pair blinked and by the time their eyes opened the massive beings were already hovering well above their heads."You've got to be shitting me." Lala mumbled."If she could do this, It would've been nice of her to have done something sooner." Laura huffed her arm dangling limp by her side.Though still on edge the twins felt they could finally breathe a sigh of relief. The pair took several steps back returning behind their friendly lines. While the Vampire they had been battling constantly had a very differe
Christopher walked to the giant hole in the wall he had created when trying to incinerate Markous looking out over the city breathing a heavy sigh, hanging his head low and shaking it. "What's wrong? At this rate the city is as good as yours? Shouldn't you be happy?" Brisia asked walking up the wall before hanging upside down looking out of the hole too. "See your people are already working on the third gate. Isn't this what you wished for?" "I'll admit.. I wasn't expecting to get that old bastard's approval, but this didn't pan out as I had hoped." He shrugged watching balls of fire rain down upon the noble district from the trebuchets outside the city. "Sooo you didn't want the city?" "Pftt I could give two shits less about the city. I wanted the power that dwelled down here. On that note I suppose you could say this was a success. But by the gods the more I was stuck in the presence of that asshole, the more I want to feed his head to a thousand small animals. Just gotta hope th

Just a little earlier"This is big! This is really big!" Brisia grinned ear to ear as she paced back and forth hardly able to contain her excitement. Her little walk even leading her up the walls and onto the ceiling dancing, and skipping, somehow defying gravity."Shit! Shit Shit!" Alesia growled through grit teeth. "I knew something was coming, but even I never imagined this!" Alesia's current mood was about as close to polar opposite of Brisia's as it could get. 'This is the last thing we need currently! If they find out, especially in the middle of this war, we're seriously fucked! Like fucked on the level I was when all the other gods betrayed me and had me cast from the heavens! Multiple days had passed in the City Of Darkness following the surrender/purge of any still resisting dissidents. And life had begun returning to normal little by little after the bodies were removed from the streets. Havoc's army had upheld their orders. Those who surrendered were allowed to return home without any recourse for fighting against their new host. Neither the members of The Black Guard, nor their militia counter parts caused any unnecessary damage, nor did they loot and pillage the city. Frankly apart from the angered nobles who's homes had been bombarded during the siege, the city was peaceful and upbeat. The stalls were open, any artisans were back to their crafts. The children ran and played in the now cleaned streets that had been soaked in blood not long ago. Guards were posted on every wall and street corner. Christopher and the other leaders involved weren't fools. Though they had been merciful, eventually there would be some who would try fighting back. They e
Inside Helenfel. "Right here." Cassandra pointed at a section of her map sprawled out on the table. "This will be the perfect place." Andrea walked around the table to stand next to Cassandra looking down on the map. "Hmmm good call. When they emerge here they'll be in a bottleneck." "That's not all. They'll be coming around a corner too. They wont be able to see our army waiting for them until it's too late. We'll also have archers along the cliff tops. that can shoot down on them." "Why not have our archers continue firing down on them the entire stretch? That's miles of cliff ledge we could use to thin them out." Garrett asked retracing the path on the Albrael army was taking. "Because we don't want to give away our archers. The reason we've barely had our men harass them the past day was leading up to this moment. Most of all we don't want them to double back, leaving the kill zone we've set up." "Isn't there a chance they sent men to the top of the cliffs too though?" "We
"They used siege magic on the rear line?" Alexis asked with a furrowed brow. "Why would they expend so much magic on the rear line?" To Alexis this didn't make any sense. If they were using it as an opener to an attack from the rear, it would definitely be justifiable. Have your men rush in taking advantage of the destroyed lines and chaos. But using siege magic alone and backing off, would be like someone taking a shotgun to kill a spider inside their own house. Beyond overkill. If they had struck the center of their lines, their commanders, or even their supply train, Alexis could understand the expenditure. Most magic users could fling spells they specialized in for a majority of the day. But siege magic? The average mage could use it four times in one day, but be severely weakened for the next couple of days. Sure they could use siege magic again the next day, but each day without a proper recovery time the power of the attack would be cut in half. "Well sir it seems the rear l
My day.. Let me tell you something about my day. It began like any other, which is to say bad, hell I'd go as far as to say miserable. Since the start of the day I was harassed, walked in on a situation I didn't want any part of, had a group of thugs try to kill me, and a stray princess was forced into my care... Today began as a miserable day. But now... Now that the day is over... Gods has it been a good day. Earlier in the morning."Remember today not only are we celebrating the end of the war that has allowed our great nation to flourish, we will also be feasting to celebrate the great union between our Prince Halbert whom is the pride of our nation and the Emperor's daughter Princess Sarah Everheart!" yelled a crier from atop the podium competing with the sounds of the market. 'Yes. Yes. We get the message. I'm amazed he still has a voice.' The young man thought to himself. 'The poor stooge has been up there for the past week announcing the same thing and giving updates on pro

This day and age when someone says an army they think professional soldiers, fighting and killing is their bread and butter, it's what they train for, it's what they're paid for. Their job consists of nothing besides honing those skills. Training and searching for a way to improve upon the ability to kill, to take the life of another human being. But there's times where an army consists of ordinary people, every day people. Bakers, smiths, teachers, sometimes even the students, people you who have never seen combat, mix these people in with some trained soldiers who're willing to advise and educate these people, and at times these armies can be just as dangerous as the professional ones. When you have a reason to fight, whether it's for a better life, to protect someone, to make a name, for your country, even if for a moment it places you at odds with it, you can become a force that's mighty. With no identifying uniform, the enemy will never know when they're about to strike. A man,
