"Two armies?" Christopher asked surprised. 'Fuck.' To many scenarios were running through his mind at the moment. He originally believed one army could possibly be on the move, but both their intelligence and scouts had nothing to report of any other armies mobilizing, the obvious choices were The Empire and Albrael, but something about the desperation in the man's voice reporting, made that thought sound like a sweet promise whispered in the ear.. "One of them is Albrael's army correct?"
"Yes sir. The other is-"
A rather fat man sat on a giant ornamental chair laden with Gold, silver, and many different jewels built atop of a platform being hoisted by different species. Hundreds of men were gathered around the make shift platform kneeling with their heads bowed reverently.
"HAHA I can't wait! I've never had an Emperor bend a knee to the rose yet!" The man cackled like a power hungry tyrant. Behind him were thousands of soldiers All flying the banner of a bejeweled crown, with a vibrant blue rose resting in front of it. "The city of eternity!? The only thing that's eternal is our goddess Martelise!" This was the second top ranking cardinal of The Holy State and appointed general, Antonio De Luca.
"RAAAAH!" The thunderous roar of thousands of soldiers shook the ground. As the army was cheering and stomping their feet. Their eyes were burning with a fervent fire, yet the same time if one were to look into their eyes they would see an emptiness, devoid of life. They existed for only one reason as far as the holy state was concerned and this was to serve their goddess's will as passed down through their cardinals or pope. They were religious fanatics, zealots.
'Time to at long last expand the influence of The Holy State and advance myself even further!' Antonio couldn't contain his excitement. Sure in a straight up fight The Holy State wouldn't be able to stand on even ground, but Antonio had prepared some welcoming gifts for Aldous.
"Your holiness. We're at the location we intended to camp for the night."
"Ah good and are-"
"Ah yes, the most devout worshippers of Martelise are awaiting your arrival so you may provide you blessings."
"Perfect lead the way to my tent then!"
To these soldiers Antonio was below one person, The pope. As soon as their army stopped for the night his tent and room was put together at the center of their camp within minutes. If they were taking a small break in their march the men would instantly move to assure he had a drink in his hand or food whenever he may desire it.
"Your holiness. It's been a day since we've fed the beasts. Perhaps -"
"Eh fine fine, go ahead and feed them! You keep feeding them this often and they're going to get spoiled you know!" Antonio waved his hand clearly showing the lack of any kind of care or emotion aside from disdain for what he deemed useless creatures.
"Yes sir! You heard the him feed the beasts! We don't want them dropping dead on the march!"
Soldiers rushed forward with baskets of moldy rock hard bread and began throwing it at the the feet of the half humans that were supporting the Cardinal's platform. While the Cardinal walked past thinking nothing of it.
His right hand man Vincenzo Gabrialdi led the way until they found themselves standing in front of a tent that was easily three thousand square feet, stitched in was giant blooming roses on each side of the tent flap along with other stitched designs such as the goddess Martelise preaching to her devout followers, then Cardinals passing on her will, and her holy warriors striking down the heathens that dare defy her love and will.
"A bath has already been drawn and heated using magic, and there's refreshments awaiting you inside. If anything doesn't quite meet your approval please call out for me and I will see to it immediately,"
Antonio stepped through the tent glancing around, there were several blazers lighting the room and a large elegant bed laid out in the center of the room. His gaze wandered towards the roof of the tent. Depicted was Martelise singing to the leaders of the holy state, her voice being projected onto a crowd of gatherers. 'Her words were law, passed onto the holy leaders... Which in the end meant their word was law. Antonio smiled seeing the portrait. 'That's right the goddess is looking down upon us, giving her blessings for our actions, to say we are wrong is saying the goddess herself is wrong!'
"Well then who's ready to be blessed?" Antonio asked shedding his robe. throughout the room were ten different women all waiting for him, already naked. Some were gathered at the table snacking, one was sitting on a swing set up to the side rocking back and forth, some were indulging in the fine wines of The Holy State awaiting Antonio. While they indulged in their desires, he would be indulging in his. A smile crept over his face as he approached the women on the bed who all smiled at him seductively.
"We await your guidance Holy one."
"Haha that's what I like to hear. Let's see who's truly worthy of the goddesses love!"
Back in Helenfel.
"Of course... The Holy State of Martelise. Guess it's not to surprising. Aldous is all about reputation and making a name for himself. Most of his army has been fighting on the south western side of The Empire. Though his current invasion is coming to an end soon." Christopher announced indicating towards the map. "He's been secretly shifting his army and supplies back towards the east leaving about double the man power needed in the west to finish the job. Most of all apart from the officers they're mostly his newest recruits.. He's using war as a makeshift training ground. Now that the west is mostly diminished and their spirits crushed it's the perfect place for their newbies. Now to the east he's already amassed his most elite forces in secret. Though I doubt Alayna would so openly betray her ruler as to say this, but there will be some vampires with his forces as well." Alayna had been summoned back to the capital of her homeland shortly after Brianna had placed her at the bottom of the totem pole. Christopher couldn't help but have a sneaking suspicion that this had something to do with that summons. Either her ruler would be ordering her to assist the vampires who were going to fight along side the Empire or for a report.
"But even without Vampires fighting for the Empire, why would The Holy State even think of invading the empire? I mean if the empire invaded I get the whole fight strong for your country, but -"
"It's simple. You said Albrael's army is assembling right?"
The messenger delivering the report nodded his head in affirmation. Seeing the answer Christopher pointed at the map. "Their staging point is probably on the east correct?" The man nodded again.
Christopher leaned back and sighed. "That will make things more difficult. I'm quite certain they're going to come north along the eastern border. Though the Empire is strong and together has a much larger force, but they're unable to leave their borders unguarded. They can only move their western armies east if it's an emergency, which is also why he's putting vampires into play." Collen consolidated different units to represent the three different armies and pushing them in their respective locations.
"So they're joining forces to eliminate the Empire?"
"Nope... Albrael knows we would take advantage of it and either cut their supply lines or attack their rear. They're going to march in a column, this is the only route big enough allowing them to maintain a formation to fend off attacks. They will form a solid battle line With the Holy State. Though they know the empire's strength, they intend to meet up with The Holy State's forces, and extend their formation into a giant J sweeping here... To attack what they see as the weakest objective.... Helenfel."
Silence.Everyone was well aware eventually the Army of Albrael would begin moving north towards Helenfel, but everybody was hopeful nobody would be willing to join with Albrael after their corruption and history of deceit was revealed."Guess it's not to surprising. What's more corrupt than religion. So long as it's not led by a god, there simply is no way to stop corruption from spreading. Chances are the pair will be looking to betray the other, but odds are they will likely wait until the war is over. If one has the advantage over the other I would be willing to bet Betrayal would be coming. If they end up even chances are they will uphold whatever their agreement is for the time being biding their time to strike at the other." Cassandra mumbled thinking the situation over. The corrupt siding with corrupt until their foe is vanquished, then turning on each other. Same story since the beginning of time."So this is the part that's going to
"Huh? I just got back!""And?""And?! Well if you really want an And, howabout the last time I tried dragging you there you tortured me half to death!""There is a key word in that sentence I would like you to pick out. DRAGING! And I only tortured you after you tried killing me and refused to give up the name of who ordered it! Besides you acted like a sex starved fiend afterwards. I would have thought I was doing you a favor not punishing you.""It was hot.." Alayna mumbled under her breath her face turning bright red. Sadist, Masochist. Both words could easily be used to described the half mad vampire Depending on the day. "But I was not some sex starved animal!"..."You asked if I was going to violate you! And when I said no you began begging me to fuck you! I remember you dragging by my ankle for an entire city block Pleading for me to and I quote. Pound my city gates like it was a siege!"..."I got caught up in th
Christopher and Alayna stood before the crowd of friends who gathered in front of Cassandra's manor to wish the pair farewell.Christopher sighed a small glimmer of sadness creeping over him. 'This will be the first time in years I will be away from Elise for more than a few days. Though he would miss Elise, he at least had been allowed to spend time with her constantly over the past few years. Where as Brianna, and Cassandra he had not seen in years, Alesia had already taken off someplace with Marielle, and now the moment he is back, once again he is being pulled away. A part of him was happy vengeance was not far off, but at the same time he loved them.. No matter how small the amount of time was away from them, it was painful. He missed them every time."Make sure you come back soon. We are going to need you." Taelin called out. 'By the gods how the situation flipped on it's head. Never thought I would hope for his return. Not that I hold any grudg
"So Taylor what brings all of you here?" Christopher by no means was ungrateful for the assistance the werewolves and others provided, but it was rather surprising. Last he knew they were back in Bael Karinne again, so the last thing he was expecting was to see any familiar faces during their Journey to The City Of Darkness."Hehe. Well I was just minding my own business and having lunch when suddenly my cup of water began having an argument with me! Telling me where you were, and there were people following you that may be trouble and that I needed to get my ass in gear grab a few others and track you down." Taylor announced with a light chuckle glancing towards the water dragon."Thought that dragon looked a little too familiar." Christopher smiled looking over his shoulder. The water dragon moved back towards the river and began losing it's form. "Hello beautiful." Christopher waved as the water completely collapsed back into the river. Behind it a beauty with tanne
"Wow." Christopher himself was close to stunned beyond words. "I may be a little crazy -" Began but was cut off by Elise "You said it." "BUT! Even I can recognize when there is something truly so beautiful, it is worth sharing with others." Alayna continued taking in the sight. "When you see something every day you can quickly forget both how beautiful it is and take it for granted. I can honestly say I never stopped loving this." For once Christopher was completely in agreement with what Alayna had told him in the past. "It's beautiful." Off in the distance there was a vast forest Many different creatures could be seen, a small river flowed through the underground forest. Wood and stone bridges could be seen further off lit up by blazers. As amazing as it was to see an underground forest thriving, what really did the number is everything was glowing vibrant different colors. Some plants and trees were pulsing as if they had their
"I'm telling you Cuddles the man slayer is the perfect nickname for her. If she doesn't kill them with her tiny cute like paw, then she will kill them with cuteness!" "Have you never had a pet before? I have never seen you this excited. We would pass dogs and other animals and you wouldn't even blink at it. Suddenly you find that thing! And you're going ape shit!" "MEWR!" "Shhh don't call her a thing! You're going to hurt her feelings! And for the record you see dogs everywhere. But look! How often do you see something so cute!?" "Well I will give you, they are rare. But let's see how cute you find it when she decides she's hungry." Alayna mumbled. Close by in a darker part of the cavern a pair of eyes were peaking out from behind the rocks. "It's almost time." A man whispered over his shoulder to a small group behind him. Christopher and his group were about to exit a bottleneck in the cavern that was perfect for an
"Now let's find out just how much you and your daughter wish to stay alive!?" Christopher cried out throwing his hands up in a grand manner."Not enough to let her sleep with a human just to save our lives!"Instantly Christopher's hands dropped to his side as he hung his head low. "W-Why does everyone assume that's what I want!?""Because you're a mad man! And you have a nympho and a crazy Vampire bitch with you!""HE-!" Alayna began to roar in anger, but Christopher raised his hand."Don't worry I shall not let his mistaken words stand!" Christopher moved closer the the man.SMACK!"I am not a mad man!"..."A-And? I thought you were going to correct his mistaken words?"..."I did." Christopher stated with a nod of his head. "I told him good didn- HIGUrk!" Christopher's words were cut off as Elise drove a fist into his stomach and Alayna punched him in the face."You didn't correct anything! He ca
Christopher watched on as both Gabreldi and Mikayla fell unconscious his vision able to see through the dense magic. After witnessing the pair collapse Christopher continued allowing the magic to exude from his body for a few more moments longer enjoying the moment. After feeling content he began allowing the thick cloud to dissipate."So.. Think maybe you overdid it a little?""Ugh are they really this weak?" Christopher sighed turning his attention back to his friends.Originally they hid well, their stances were well honed. All and all the group looked to be decent warriors. But to just fall unconscious? 'Hells I was holding back quite a bit.' But the sight in front of him was definitely a surprise he didn't expect."I don't think that was the issue." Alayna mumbled. Everyone was sweating profusely breathing heavily as if they had all just finished running a marathon as fast as they could maintain. Though none of them would
"They used siege magic on the rear line?" Alexis asked with a furrowed brow. "Why would they expend so much magic on the rear line?" To Alexis this didn't make any sense. If they were using it as an opener to an attack from the rear, it would definitely be justifiable. Have your men rush in taking advantage of the destroyed lines and chaos. But using siege magic alone and backing off, would be like someone taking a shotgun to kill a spider inside their own house. Beyond overkill. If they had struck the center of their lines, their commanders, or even their supply train, Alexis could understand the expenditure. Most magic users could fling spells they specialized in for a majority of the day. But siege magic? The average mage could use it four times in one day, but be severely weakened for the next couple of days. Sure they could use siege magic again the next day, but each day without a proper recovery time the power of the attack would be cut in half. "Well sir it seems the rear l
Inside Helenfel. "Right here." Cassandra pointed at a section of her map sprawled out on the table. "This will be the perfect place." Andrea walked around the table to stand next to Cassandra looking down on the map. "Hmmm good call. When they emerge here they'll be in a bottleneck." "That's not all. They'll be coming around a corner too. They wont be able to see our army waiting for them until it's too late. We'll also have archers along the cliff tops. that can shoot down on them." "Why not have our archers continue firing down on them the entire stretch? That's miles of cliff ledge we could use to thin them out." Garrett asked retracing the path on the Albrael army was taking. "Because we don't want to give away our archers. The reason we've barely had our men harass them the past day was leading up to this moment. Most of all we don't want them to double back, leaving the kill zone we've set up." "Isn't there a chance they sent men to the top of the cliffs too though?" "We
Multiple days had passed in the City Of Darkness following the surrender/purge of any still resisting dissidents. And life had begun returning to normal little by little after the bodies were removed from the streets. Havoc's army had upheld their orders. Those who surrendered were allowed to return home without any recourse for fighting against their new host. Neither the members of The Black Guard, nor their militia counter parts caused any unnecessary damage, nor did they loot and pillage the city. Frankly apart from the angered nobles who's homes had been bombarded during the siege, the city was peaceful and upbeat. The stalls were open, any artisans were back to their crafts. The children ran and played in the now cleaned streets that had been soaked in blood not long ago. Guards were posted on every wall and street corner. Christopher and the other leaders involved weren't fools. Though they had been merciful, eventually there would be some who would try fighting back. They e
Just a little earlier"This is big! This is really big!" Brisia grinned ear to ear as she paced back and forth hardly able to contain her excitement. Her little walk even leading her up the walls and onto the ceiling dancing, and skipping, somehow defying gravity."Shit! Shit Shit!" Alesia growled through grit teeth. "I knew something was coming, but even I never imagined this!" Alesia's current mood was about as close to polar opposite of Brisia's as it could get. 'This is the last thing we need currently! If they find out, especially in the middle of this war, we're seriously fucked! Like fucked on the level I was when all the other gods betrayed me and had me cast from the heavens! Perhaps even more fucked!'"I still can't believe it! I mean I suppose when you look at his track record it would make sense, but holy shit!" Brisia exclaimed. "Not just immortal but he's turning into a god.""I know... More so a god of death." Alesia groaned. The completed 'tattoo' pretty much confirme
Thunk.... Thunk..."Riggy... Any day now..""Y-You d-don't rush perfection!" Mortis groaned as his nerves were being grated against by a rather pushy spirit. "E-Elise if you think you can do better, by all means t-take over!" He snapped back.Thunk! Thunk!"Well look Riggy.. I don't mean to be pushy... BUT PEOPLE ARE TRYING TO FUCKING KILL US!" Elise roared flapping her arms up and down like they were wings.Fwee! As though on cue an arrow zipped between their faces, mere millimeters from giving Mortis a nose piercing he didn't wish for....."S-See not that bad.." He stood his ground glaring back at Elise who could only return his gaze with wild eyed disbelief.Thunk! Thunk! Thunk! Thunk!"That's because there's a wall of shields protecting you and your wrinkled ass!"Thunk! Thunk! Thunk! Thunk! Thunk! Thunk! Thunk! Thunk! Sure enough the members of The Black Guard had formed a wall of shields covering the pair as Mortis went to work claiming he had the means to bring down their gat
Christopher walked to the giant hole in the wall he had created when trying to incinerate Markous looking out over the city breathing a heavy sigh, hanging his head low and shaking it. "What's wrong? At this rate the city is as good as yours? Shouldn't you be happy?" Brisia asked walking up the wall before hanging upside down looking out of the hole too. "See your people are already working on the third gate. Isn't this what you wished for?" "I'll admit.. I wasn't expecting to get that old bastard's approval, but this didn't pan out as I had hoped." He shrugged watching balls of fire rain down upon the noble district from the trebuchets outside the city. "Sooo you didn't want the city?" "Pftt I could give two shits less about the city. I wanted the power that dwelled down here. On that note I suppose you could say this was a success. But by the gods the more I was stuck in the presence of that asshole, the more I want to feed his head to a thousand small animals. Just gotta hope th
"HAHAHA JUSTICE SHALL BE DELIVERED!" Vale cried out as though she were a poor soul who had been denied justice by the courts for far too long.BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM!The ground erupted all around both the twins and the behemoth of a Vampire. The girls quickly turned their backs to one another taken by surprise, readying themselves as best they could considering their injuries. Their eyes caught a glimpse of a creature emerging from the earth, and it was almost instant. The pair blinked and by the time their eyes opened the massive beings were already hovering well above their heads."You've got to be shitting me." Lala mumbled."If she could do this, It would've been nice of her to have done something sooner." Laura huffed her arm dangling limp by her side.Though still on edge the twins felt they could finally breathe a sigh of relief. The pair took several steps back returning behind their friendly lines. While the Vampire they had been battling constantly had a very differe
RAAAWR! A roar ripped through the caverns as the ground beneath their feet began to shake violently. Many people from both sides of the battle looked around trying to find what kind of ferocious beast could emit such a blood curdling sound. "I haven't heard a roar like that in thousands of years." "I've never heard that kind ever!" Their eyes scanned the surroundings. Looking side to side, up around the cavern ceiling, only to find nothing. The monstrous sound was far to loud for anyone to mistakenly assume they had just imagined it. The rumbling earth began shaking harder and harder although you couldn't physically see any movement, the people could feel the movements underneath their feet from whatever was coming, like a slithering serpent snaking it's way through the grass. It felt as though the very earth beneath their feet may collapse at any moment. If anyone in the vicinity were to claim the gods were angered and unleashing their fury on the city, many wouldn't doubt the w
This day and age when someone says an army they think professional soldiers, fighting and killing is their bread and butter, it's what they train for, it's what they're paid for. Their job consists of nothing besides honing those skills. Training and searching for a way to improve upon the ability to kill, to take the life of another human being. But there's times where an army consists of ordinary people, every day people. Bakers, smiths, teachers, sometimes even the students, people you who have never seen combat, mix these people in with some trained soldiers who're willing to advise and educate these people, and at times these armies can be just as dangerous as the professional ones. When you have a reason to fight, whether it's for a better life, to protect someone, to make a name, for your country, even if for a moment it places you at odds with it, you can become a force that's mighty. With no identifying uniform, the enemy will never know when they're about to strike. A man,
