18. Luncheon

last update Last Updated: 2024-04-15 13:56:57
It has been one week since Hendry met Sloan's family, and he had been pleasantly surprised when he met them. His mom was warm and welcoming. His overprotective sister asked a lot of questions, while her husband talked about how Hendry shouldn't worry about Vera, telling him that she means well and that she loves her brother dearly.

What surprised him the most was Sloan's nieces and nephew. Hendry never cared for kids much, but hearing Sloan's adorable nieces asking about him being their uncle's boyfriend, then Alexa yapping about her friend's dads and how it would be so awesome to have girls as future kids. They all had been his enlightenment. It was a wonder how Hendry's perspective of his future was being laid out in the open by toddlers.

"Mr. Camden, am I interrupting your deep thoughts on how to conquer the business world, again? Or are you just gazing out looking all serious while in reality, you have bad dirty thoughts about us?" Sloan teased, his voice low after closing the do

The day started with everything being off with her. She dreaded that she had to go to the silly women's luncheon, but Callie knows that it was what was expected of her from her parents. Now, more than ever because she was going to be married to Brody. She needs to fit with the lifestyle her mom had said, and Callie was pushing herself feeling like she was about to burst from the tension alone. For now, no one knows except for her, and Callie intended to keep it that way. The invitation that her mom had sent weeks ago was under her name, Callie Delaney Cromwell. But that's all that was right about the freaking day. First of all, she woke up late and hurriedly drove across town because she didn't want to come alone to the luncheon where everyone can be so judgemental with the likes of her. Yes, she wasn't born dripping with wealth and no matter how rich her family had become, the fact remains that her family was nouveau riche, new money. Whatever they called her family in soft whispers,

Brody arrived at the coffee shop fifteen minutes earlier. He had just finished with his meeting, and he hadn't have time for lunch. So he figured that he would get a sandwich with his ice coffee. When Callie finally arrived he was happily finishing off the last bite of his sandwich. He washed it down with a bottle of water before he continued to sip on his iced-americano. "Was that your lunch?" Callie asked nodding at the sandwich plate. "Why didn't you tell me you hadn't had your lunch, we could go to the bistro and get you some proper meal for lunch." His fiance scolded him just like she would whenever Callie noticed that he works too hard and forget about his meals. "Wow, are you on wifey mode already?" He teased before wiping any crumbs off his mouth with the paper napkin. "Princess mode." She muttered, clearly not happy that he teased her just now when all she wanted was for him to eat regularly knowing that he likes to work himself to the ground. "Wow, okay. Who got your pan

After Brody's call, Hendry couldn't get back to sleep. He stared at his phone for too long until he decided to numb his feelings with alcohol. He went to his home office and poured his fresh bottle of Whiskey and fill the glass to the brim. He knew it was too good to be true, he knew that he was going to mess something up. All his life he had never been that lucky. "Stupid...stupid...stupid!" He banged his fist a few times onto his desk. Then made the mistake of banging the last one a bit too strong that he actually hurt himself against the edge of his desk. "So fucking stupid." He cursed lowly when he saw the cut and blood tracing down to his fingers. The pain was nothing compared to the broken feeling he had when he forced himself to let Brody go. He didn't think he could, be he did. After all these years. Hendry ended the call and he felt like he had severed the only ties that teetered him to his sanity. He groaned and poured himself another glass, once again filling it to the b

Alcohol poisoning, the doctor said Hendry will recover but he needs to stay for an observation. Sloan was glad that last year Hendry had put him as his emergency contact. At that time Hendry joked that his parents were going to be too busy and that it was easier just to put Sloan's name on it. Sloan had spent the night by his hospital bed looking at the handsome man before him. His boss. The one person he'd managed to fall for and the guy almost killed himself for another man. Sloan was so screwed. When he found Hendry on his bathroom floor, he looked pale and was shivering. Hendry's hand was a bloody mess and he reeked of alcohol. Sloan was quick to call for an ambulance. Then, he spent hours panicking while he waited. His mom came to his rescue, she held him and comforted him. She even came back in the morning with Sloan's work clothes when he needed to go to the office. She stayed with Hendry assuring her son that Hendry was not going to wake up alone. That afternoon Hendry decid

When Hendry cuts him from his life, Brody felt like he just lost a part of himself. This was not how it was supposed to be. He was not sure if he could function without his best friend. Hendry said that he loved him, if he did, surely he wouldn't cut himself out of Brody's life, right? "Brody? Earth to Brody..." Callie called him out when he exited their conversation. "I'm sorry, it's just...shit, I shouldn't be thinking about this when I'm with you. You're my fiance." "Brody, I'm also your best friend. We've been best friends long before we started getting intimate before we were even engaged. So, tell me, what's been bothering you? Or should I ask who?" She asked with a smile on her face, clearly, she knows that whatever his response, it wasn't going to hurt her feelings. Yep, there was no doubt in Brody's mind that Callie knew that it was Hendry that has been bothering him. It pained him that he made Callie felt that he wasn't giving her the attention she deserved. Maybe it was

"Hey boss, how are you feeling?" Sloan peeked into his room telling him that dinner was ready. "Ugh...the pills are making me sleepy." "Maybe it's because your body needs to heal." "Yeah, but right now I'm getting hungry." Hendry drank his water before grumpily getting out of bed and followed Sloan to the kitchen. "How's work?" "Meh, it'll still be there tomorrow." Sloan waived his hand to let the matter go, though he still told him about the meetings Sloan had rescheduled and gave Hendry details about the internal meetings that he takes notes for his boss to look at later. "And by later, I mean tomorrow though I still think that it'll be too soon for you to go to work." "I'm bored," Hendry complained. "I know, but I thought me being here was distraction enough for you." He winked and that finally got Hendry to smile. Sloan didn't tell him about Brody's visit, he was concerned that it'll trigger his drinking. He was going to wait until he talked to Brody before going through wit

"You did what?" Hendry was giving him a look as if he couldn't believe what Sloan said when he got back from his lunch appointment. Hendry had said that he dreaded talking to the board members, he said that they were a bunch of stuck-up middle-aged dudes who talk constantly about their trophy wives or summer houses abroad. He told Sloan that if it wasn't for making nice with his dad's friends Hendry would never agree to the meet. "I met with Brody for lunch. Um...this was because he came to your place last night," "He what?" "Argh... really Hendry, is there something wrong with your hearing?" Sloan almost rolled his eyes, but he decided to close the door of his boss's office instead. "Look, Brody came, he met my mom who accidentally mentioned you being hospitalized. Then when I was back, I found him watching you sleep. It...Hendry, it was why I thought of this, just hear me first, okay?" Hendry nodded though his eyes held so many questions he looked like he was ready to burst. "

Hendry didn't expect to blurt out his feelings for Sloan. Yes, it was overwhelming for him to say that he loves his assistant. But in a way he did. He felt the warm nagging feeling since the day he had dinner with Sloan's family. It was amazing to be easily out with the whole family. He had never experienced such freedom, and he was embracing it. Everything falls into place when both Sloan and his mom actually take care of him when he had alcohol poisoning, that was a first. He knew he drank too much, too fast, but he didn't think that he would get alcohol poisoning. He was ashamed at that and he felt like an ass for giving them the hassle of taking care of him, though Hendry secretly liked the attention. "Hey, where did you go just now?" He smiled as Sloan asked, snuggling and resting his hand on his chest. Sloan took a deep breath before leaning to rest his cheek on the pillow, inching closer to his side. "I'm thinking of introducing you to my mom," Hendry confessed. "Um, we me

Sloan would never in a million years imagine he'd have the perfect life. Being a house-husband was never his goal, but turns out raising their children with Callie was his purpose in life and it filled him with love and made him feel complete. "Are you sure we have everything?" Callie asked as she once again tried to convince Caden to wear his clothes. Hendry had Paisley ready and Brody carried baby Sean while his other arm was holding Evan ready to get to the car. They were all going to go to Brody's dad for his birthday lunch. Brody's sisters were already waiting at the house with their families. It had been three years since Brody's mom passed away from a stroke. With all the problems she caused, it was a miracle to have

Six years later "Sloan, honey, go... we'll stay with the kids. Just take Callie and Sean to the doctor. You've done this many times already, you know the drill." Livia scolded her son. Yes, Callie was panicking when baby Sean was running a high fever. Marlene, Callie's mom was visiting since she and her husband just got back from one of Callie's dad's business trips abroad. And just like most dotting grandparents, they were bringing gifts for their grandchildren. Their oldest grandson looked exactly like his daddy, Brody. At five years old, Evan was the perfect big brother for his twin siblings who liked following him around the house trying to annoy their big brother. The three-year-old girl Paisley has their mom's beautiful hair and eyes, while her twin brother, Caden, looks just like young Hendry with an attitude to match. The youngest baby was Sean, at one year old the little boy already had the same pout as Papa Sloan and a cry like he was given the best sets of lungs. "Papa

"Damn, you sure know how to pick the destination. So, did you pack skimpy bikinis and speedos for Callie and Sloan too?" Brody asked grinning at Hendry. Their man was solely responsible for choosing their private villa with a gorgeous blue pool, and stunning volcano views looking over the Aegean waters. Brody was impressed, he'd never stayed at Santorini private villas before. The place was beautiful, secluded, and definitely romantic. "Of course I did, though I should've thought about buying the ones with matching colors for Sloan and Callie, they sure can pull one hell of a strip show for us." The man chuckled and Brody joined him taking a seat on one of the sunbeds at the Villa's terrace with the gorgeous view of the water. Sloan and Callie were checking out the villa and also unpacking. By unpacking it meant that they were checking out what Hendry and Brody had packed for their secret destination honeymoon. Though Brody was told what kind of clothes to pack, he didn't know thei

What he didn't expect was finding out that Holden had Sloan pinned and was seconds away from raping their new husband on their wedding day. He held Sloan in his arms, as soon as the guards Oakley arranged for them to hire had managed to take control of the situation. Hendry was just glad that Oakley had advised them to hire extra guards with the high-profile guests Callie's dad was inviting. Though deep down Hendry knew that Oakley had been in the business long enough to know that anything could happen. The man must've learned about Holden from the many times he spends time talking with Sloan and Callie. Though he legally would be married to Hendry, their commitment ceremony will include vows as the four of them become one in front of their closest family and friends. When the day finally came Sloan felt ecstatic. He felt his smile go up to his ears and he felt like he was about to burst into a dance and make himself silly like singing in front of everyone or singing in an empty room, just because he couldn't wait to get in front of people to sing his heart out. "Sloan, darling, you need to stop fidgeting." His mom scolded him like he was still ten and she was rightening his clothes cause little Sloan wanted to look his best for his end-of-year school performance. "Callie, honey," she turned to Sloan and realized that they had arrived and he was waiting by the back passenger door, holding it open for her. Sloan held out his hand and Callie took it. She heard Sloan tell their driver to go home before he ushered her into the house. Callie felt something was off the second she and Sloan entered their home. Brody had called them earlier and explained to them what happened. Sloan had Googled the accident and saw just how damaging the situation was. There were videos of cars crashing into a truck, the devastation was so harsh that it got her thinking about how Hendry's car could be involved in the accident. It made her realize just how fragile their lives were. She was glad that Brody insisted on them using a driver that day since she knew that Brody would be too nervous to share the news before they got home. Callie was still shaken and Sloan knew that she needed their men. The place was too quiet for her liking. The stillness made her hurry in

Hendry was beyond relieved when Brody gave him a quick call and told him what happened before lunch. He listened while his future husband blurted about how his dad was divorcing his mom and was coming to the wedding tomorrow. The call didn't last long since Brody was going to have a lunch meeting with his family and talk more about their future without his vindictive mother. Hendry let Brody get back to his family so he could get back to his work. Hendry had a few contract proposals to approve and some internal documents to sign until it was time for him to meet up with his dad and Harvey. His mom might not be as strongly opinionated as Brody's mom, but she was keeping it to herself and that was making everything worse for herself. Hendry's dad had been coming less and less to the office because he was taking care of his mom. Harvey checked up on them, though he reported back with nothing good. "You know it's not your fault, right?" Harvey asked as he walked into Hendry's office. H

Brody felt the envy shimmering under his skin, he wanted his parents to be excited about his future too. But no... his mom had to ruin his happiness by trying to end her life as if his action had shamed her to her death. Lately, Brody had to exhaust himself at work just to get a good night's sleep. Though good would be pushing it. The sleep had been decent at best. Brody was still stressed over his mom, though he tried to concentrate on his relationship. He couldn't help feeling that he was making things difficult for his lovers though they kept on supporting him. He knew he'd be as persistent as them if it was the other way around.
