‘Serena.’ She reached out to her wolf, only to be rejected.

To Bree, it had been only yesterday when she passed out on the floor when she saw Grayson standing naked with Marina in the bathroom

But if Grayson was telling her the truth, that they had been together the past few days, it meant she had been having memory lapses again, which only happened when Serena took over.

Bree reached out again, pleading for the wolf to let her in.

‘You wanted to forget. But I don’t,’ Serena answered while Grayson observed her with a puzzled expression. Brianna looked like she was in a trance, so he assumed she was talking to her wolf.

He learned early on that whenever Brianna’s eyes glazed over; she was busy communicating with her wolf. It was something that should come naturally to werewolves, but since Bree did not grow up knowing she was a shapeshifter, it was taking some getting used to.

He could easily talk to Slate and not lose concentration or sight of what was in front of him. It was natural

Grayson sighed. He knew it would take time to convince Bree of his sincerity, but he had an explanation that would allay her fears. “Nobody but Aiden knows this, but before you came, I’ve been sleeping in my office every evening. The couch becomes a bed at night.”“Why?”“I’m the alpha and I have certain duties. I can’t have a horny teenager dictate my sleep schedule.”“You said nothing can stop her. She can just as easily get into the office as in your bedroom.”“That’s not true. It’s the one room in the house where nobody but I can enter without an invitation.”“And you think I should believe that?”“I will be here first thing tomorrow morning and you can sniff me all you want, for evidence.” He grinned.“I have a lot to think about. Maybe you should go.” Bree couldn’t pry herself from his lap. She had comfortably sat on his knees and it was hard to move from the snuggly position. One move was all it would take, and they’d be naked and doing the horizontal dance again. So Brianna

After Bran left, Bree went inside and found several sheets in the boxes, so she made all the beds in the house. To make it look more welcoming. Having all the furniture and boxes sitting around made it feel eerie. She laid her head on the pillow, but sleep wouldn’t come. How could she stay indoors when she knew Bran patrolled the area around their new house? So she stayed up the entire night and opened more boxes. There were a lot of books about werewolves written by fantasy authors and she thought it would be a good idea to pass the time by reading the materials. As Grayson said, not everything that was written about the wolves was accurate, but at least she could compare notes using her experience. She found a bookshelf downstairs and started stacking it up. The family seemed to have a penchant for reading fantasy books, as they also contained stories about mermaids, fairies, and witches. There were tomes that looked old and dusty, so Bree set those on the bottom where all the he

“We are destined to always go back on our word, aren’t we?” Grayson smiled before kissing her sweet, red lips. There was nowhere he’d rather be at the moment, and he was afraid speaking would break the spell.“This thing between us, is it real?” Squeezed tightly together on a medium-sized couch was the weirdest place to question the validity of their relationship. But he was glad that Bree was open to talking about it.“It is, and the house deed only proves we would have been together earlier had your parents not met their accident.”Brianna looked away. It was not helpful thinking about the what-ifs when it would never bring her parents back.“Thank you for comforting me last night. It was hard to learn about all this without Bran.”“Happy to help. Do you want me to stay and make you breakfast?” Grayson wanted to lie with Bree on the couch all day, but her tummy made some grumbling noises.“No, thanks. You’ve done enough already. We should get up.” Bree lifted her head, the close quar

Elizabeth warned me of danger several times, making me wonder if she was an oracle. I had the mark of the sisterhood and anybody in a coven recognized each other, but since she never opened up about it, I had to see for myself. Was she a witch in hiding? Is that why they kept moving?‘Wait! What?? Brandon. Mom is a witch?’ She was glad he had checked in earlier and accompanied her while she read the diary. A big revelation, such as their mom being a witch, would be hard to contain.‘No wonder we always had those herbs hanging around in the kitchen and little bottles with all sorts of things inside them.’Brianna slapped her forehead. She should have gotten a clue from the books when she put them away. The covers did not look like any regular storybook. Then the pages looked timeworn and most of the text was handwritten in cursive, which is the reason she did not read in the dark.‘There were a lot of clues and we never connected them together.’‘Well, we were kids when witches and wer

“Come, the food is ready.” Brutus was in charge of the barbecue and as he opened the cover for the grill, the glorious smell of roasting meat made Brandon’s stomach grumble. It had been days since he last ate. He doesn’t even know how long he’s had grilled meat and hearing the fat sizzling on the hot red coals made him salivate. The men around him laughed, but his attention was focused on the darkened slab of ribs Brutus took out, and seeing his hungry expression, the pack enforcer did not hesitate to give him the first serving. “Hmm…” Brandon closed his eyes as he savored the meat melting in his mouth. The sauce dripped down his fingers and he licked it off clean, not caring that people were watching.Slice after slice of meat appeared in front of him together with potatoes, cobs of corn, and several pieces of bread, and Bran gobbled them all up like the starving man that he was.“Save some for us,” Rick joked after seeing Brandon had stopped growling and slowing down. “I’m sorry,

Brandon couldn’t walk out of the cabin even if he wanted to. It had been a struggle to keep his wolf form, and he doubted he could even walk upright since he remembered crawling most of the way to get to the cabin.Every muscle in his body was tingling and his bones felt weak, making him wonder how he helped the woman the last few days when he couldn’t even move. Then he remembered he had been handling the Calabar beans without gloves and had been inhaling the fumes every time he brewed the tea.He heard Violet mention it was poisonous, and he did not heed her warnings about brewing the tea in an open area to have the least amount of contact with the poison. The effect on him had been gradual, given that he was also a werewolf whose body could heal itself. But over time, and with no sustenance to replenish the energy used to flush it out of his system, the poison stayed in his body longer. It was Brianna who figured out what was making him weak when he was unresponsive after two days

He was sure it was a trick his mind was playing on him.Bran was weighed down by several blankets to keep the cold away and as he peeled them off slowly, he noticed the scents of the items around the room reminded him of home. He hadn’t expected to stay in his human form, but after his drastic shift, it became difficult to switch back. Thorne had warned him not to interfere. But the thought of leaving a human in need felt wrong. He only had to think of Brianna lying alone in the woods and his protective instincts kicked in.Bran remembered visiting this human in her dreams repeatedly, giving him another reason to help.He could feel the sorrow and the pain she felt, and he wondered if he was empathetic towards her because he had felt the same feelings while growing up. Momentary silence…then angry growls erupted around her. Bree tried to reach for Bran through their link, but all she felt was fear. The terror she felt from her brother had been too great. It consumed her as well. She did not know what was happening, but if Bran was scared, it meant something horrifying was happening. He was the bravest person and feared nothing, so she knew to keep quiet instead of crying out for help.Heavy footsteps thudded closer to her location, and Brianna strained to see what made the sounds. Labored breathing told her they were closer. Sitting upside down distorted her perception, but a window to the left that remained uncrushed offered her the opportunity to see the feet of an animal twice the size of any regular dog she’d seen. It had such enormous claws that Brianna almost let out a scream.‘Bran, I’m scared.’ She cried to him as her body shook in fear. ‘Close your eyes, Bree. Marina woke up in the comfort of her bedroom a few days later, weak and thirsty. A glass of water sat on her bedside table, and she gulped the liquid greedily, spilling some of its contents down her sleeping gown. She sat up in bed and wondered how she got there. The last thing she remembered was running through the forest and crying her eyes out. She had eaten the berries by the riverbed and asked for death to take her, so when the hooded figure appeared, she was sure all her problems were gone. It was death, come to take her home.Marina laid back down and screamed at the top of her lungs. She stomped on the bed and used both fists to pound on the soft cushion like a child throwing a tantrum. She was mad that even death wouldn’t allow her the peace she wanted, so she blamed other people. Why me? I wanted to die. This is all Brianna’s fault. That bitch keeps interfering with my life. And the first thing she did after taking a shower and hatching out her plan was to call Seth.“I s

Brianna just stood to the side, and Violet pushed her toward the house. “No, Vi. This is Brandon. I’ve never heard of a wolf having telepathic abilities outside the mate bond before.”“I guess we are rare. They said wolves never had twins before, either.”Brandon scolded her for telling their secret, and Brianna just smirked. How else could she explain his sudden appearance?Brandon was getting impatient. ‘Give me the pods so I can make the cure.’‘You have to shift. Violet says every part of the plant is poisonous and putting it in your mouth might kill you before you can help your friend.’‘Place it in a bag and wrap it around my body. Hurry Brianna. Brianna had been worried about Brandon. After he almost ran into Seth’s men, she had been more worried, but he was stubborn, unwilling to compromise his freedom.Grayson was right. They were more vulnerable apart. So she tried to convince him to stay in the cabin with her, but Bran insisted Grayson was enough to do the job of guarding her. So she let him be. There was no convincing Bran to do things when he’d already said no. Not having her link with Bran made it more difficult to stay in the cabin and read through her mother’s books. She couldn’t bother Grayson too much during the day because he needed to concentrate on doing his job as the sheriff.Bree was amazed at the amount of information the books contained. It had everything from the beneficial uses of everyday household items to love potions, curses, and cures for every ailment. She wondered if modern medicine would benefit from reading through any witch’s journal.‘What is the cure for Belladonna?’ Bran interrupted her thou
