Baked bread, grilled meat, and fried bacon teased the senses as Brandon regained consciousness. A warm, soft hand pressed against his forehead before brushing the hair away from his face.

“You’re going to be okay,” an old woman’s voice tickled his ears. Stirring him from slumber.

“Nana? I’m sorry…I failed you.”

The cushion by Bran’s hip dipped low. “No, you didn’t. You did good. Brianna, Grayson, and the rest of the pack are safe because of you.”

Bran struggled to open his eyes, it had been only hours since he had been rescued and his werewolf blood was supposed to wipe out the toxins from his body easily, but the people who captured them dumped too much of the concoction into his body that it would take several more hours to be completely gone.

“Do you know you were able to mask every pack member’s presence as they waited outside for their chance to attack?”

“What?”

“The pack members who were present said the forest appeared like something from a horror movie. Everything was inky bla

It had been several days later when Bran finally woke up, and even though he tried to recount the events of what happened in his head, Bran could recall nothing. Two months, he had lost two months from his memories and he wondered if he was missing anything else aside from what Brianna had already told him.He was walking in the pasture, heading for the cows grazing the field, when a scent tickled his nose. The sweet intoxicating aroma of newly baked butter cookies teased his senses and he couldn’t help but follow.“Wait! Who are you?” Bran called out as he caught up to the person weaving between the trees, obviously trying to avoid detection. He was surprised to find a woman clothed in black, her hair tucked under a black beanie.“I don’t want trouble. I just wanted to see how you were doing.” “I’m okay. My memory is a little rusty, but everything will return soon enough.” Marina heard about his amnesia, and she wondered if he knew who she was. They were never officially introduced,

Bran had never been smooth with the ladies, but he never knew anyone who would knee him in the groin without provocation. He just asked for her name. Was that not allowed in society anymore? After recovering from his pain, Bran limped back to the ranch, spending time with the cows forgotten. He figured having a scraggly beard and mustache did not make him appealing to anyone. He probably looked like a hermit, foraging in the woods.‘Not ugly,’ a voice whispered.“Hello!” He called out behind him, wondering where the voice came from.A sharp pain stabbed Bran between his eyes, radiating to the back of his head. The intensity of his headache made him double over and fall onto the leaf-strewn forest floor.‘Bree!’ He called out before hitting the ground. At the ranch, Brianna was busy exchanging stories with Amelia when she heard Bran through their link. “Brandon has burn marks on his back and they looks fresh.”“What? Where?” Bree tried to pull the blanket covering Bran’s body to see the evidence herself, but Grayson used his feet to sweep her aside.“You know that your brother is naked under the sheets. Do you think he’ll be happy to know that you saw him without his clothes?”“I’ve seen him naked plenty of times.”“Brianna,” Grayson scolded, and for a brief moment she had a reason to smile. “I didn’t see any fire at the site. Where did he get the burn marks?”“Must be a cattle prod, alpha. We found one lying around a few feet away from the site. They tried to hide it, but we were better.” Someone from the back replied.“Bring it to the kitchen. We can locate which ranch it came from.”Gray headed to Brandon’s room as Bree followed behind with worry.“Who would do this? Do you think Seth’s grandpa had found out what happened and sent someone for retaliation?” She asked, eager to know what happened and if they needed to be cautious.

“Bree—help—Silver—having dreams—wolves—out of time—don’t come.”Beep! The answering machine recorded the message just as Bree opened the door. The key always stuck, and she always thought of fixing it but never had the time. Her heart sank when the last beeping sound signaled that the person on the other line had dropped the call. She heard Bran’s voice on the other side of the door as she wrangled with the stubborn lock.He never called during the week, knowing she was at work, so she felt disappointed that she made a last-minute decision to pass by the grocery store instead of heading straight home.Bree tried to call the number back by dialing *69 but it gave her the busy dial tone. It had been a couple of weeks since they last spoke and not having her brother nearby for more than half the year got her concerned. And after the puzzling message Bran left on the machine, she felt more anxious. Why would he ask for help, and then tell her not to come? He had been in trouble before,

Days after Bree got that nagging feeling that something significant was about to happen in their lives, she made time to confront him.“What is happening, Bran? Why now? Why are you leaving? Aren’t you happy here with me?” She stood to level their stare, but he had grown more than a foot taller in just a year, making it hard to plead her case when he looked down on her.“I just want to find out who I am, Bree. See if I can do this on my own.” Bran stood by the bookcase in the living room, picking at the well-worn books on the shelf, ignoring her, so she sat back down.“Of course, you can do anything,” she said encouragingly. But then tried to pull at his heartstrings. “But why now? I’ll have no one.”He raised a brow. They were adults, and Bree had been always independent since they were kids. So he knew this was an attempt to make him stay.“Because we’ve always talked about this hiking trip with Mom and Dad, remember? And it’s time to conquer the great outdoors.”“I remember, but th

“Bran, is it too late to convince you not to leave?” Brianna asked as she picked on the straps of his backpack. She was still hugging him and wouldn’t let go. They were at the airport and Bree took the day off to drop him off before his big adventure.“Bree, I’m just a few states over.” Brandon pushed her off his chest a few inches so he could see her face, but she had her head bent because she did not want him to see the tears in her eyes. He grimaced and kissed her forehead. “You can always hop on the plane and see me if you want.”He hugged her again, making her tear up more.“I know that. I guess I just don’t like being left behind.” She mumbled.“I’ll be back in six months and then you’ll tire of having me around the house. Enjoy your time without me. Grab a boyfriend or two while I’m gone.”Bree snickered. “Sure, let me flirt with the hot police officers while I’m training. That will do me good.”“As long as you like them, then I’m okay with that. Don’t let them intimidate you

Bree paced at the car rental shop. The number of customers ahead of her could be counted on one hand, so there should be no reason for the delay when there were two employees present. She could hear the person in the front struggle with signing up. They were having issues with the mode of payment as the credit card company put a hold on the approval.Bree usually had the perseverance to stand on the sidelines and listen to people’s issues, but today she was getting short. As if sensing her anger, the other staff member finished making small talk with the person they were helping and directed them to another employee to get their car. When she got the approval to find her brother, Bree immediately booked the rental. The place he last called from was an hour away from the closest airport, so public transportation was definitely out of the question.Chicago had very awful traffic, and they had trains and buses everywhere, so there never was a need to get a car. And now she wondered if ma

Grayson and their group looked out of place. Muscled men coming out of several sports utility vehicles in a hiking area in the middle of the woods didn’t look like a friendly hiking expedition. The sunlight was fading fast in the mountains, and the pack knew the darkness would help camouflage their identities when they shifted. They can’t have reports of multiple untagged and undocumented wolves running around the park when it wasn’t necessary. It could give away their entire existence. But time is of the essence. Seth had intentions of severing the mating bond between Grayson and Brianna. They figured Seth wouldn’t dare kill her, but he could always take her against her will, and that could damage her confidence and reject her bond with Grayson because of her mental state. Not having the exact location for the turnoff marker and the cabin could be troublesome, but they had to do everything for Brianna, or he would never forgive himself.‘Grayson, where are you?’ He almost toppled o

Every wolf hoped to have a mate fated for them to love until the end of time. And when this event happens, nobody could intercede, unless one of the couple decides to reject the bond.“I have a fated mate,” Victor replied, challenging James’ statement.James sneered. “Brianna rejected your bond and has mated with Seth, my most promising alpha, and he deserves it.” Grayson remained impassive. “Our bond goes beyond the physical. I would have felt if it had been severed.”“Which only means there is no such thing.” James sneered.“Just because it never happened to you, it doesn’t mean it’s not true. Do you want to remain obstinate by keeping the twins?” Victor inquired.“Leave one of them to show good faith.”“No! The twins are better off together.” Victor replied.“What are you talking about? Never in wolf history did anyone have twins because they often eliminate each other in the womb. So these two will eventually kill each other, whether you like it or not. Why not separate them now

“Grandpa, what are you doing here?” Grayson was holding a meeting with the Silvercreek pack elders, which included the werewolves, all the magical individuals, and other shape-shifting creatures that called Silvercreek their home. “I know you are the alpha of this pack, grandson, but it’s not frowned upon to ask for help from your elders when you are in a bind.” All the elders gathered around the table nodded. Earlier, most of the group had expressed that Grayson should have asked them for help before meeting with Seth in the clearing, so the kidnapping could have been avoided. “Attacking another pack should be the last option.” Victor Walker, the pack’s retired alpha, had flown on the red eye from Florida when he learned about the abduction. He wanted to get there first thing the next morning to scold Grayson for not coming prepared.“I am sorry. I know I should have consulted you sooner, but I thought we had it under control.”“How could you let a woman string you along and lead

Something felt wrong, but Bree couldn’t stop from sighing and leaning into the lips that were kissing her neck. She felt a soft hand caress her hip down to her thighs, and she moaned. It had only been a day since she last saw Grayson, but there was a hunger inside her whenever they came together. Would it always be like this? She had never been with a man so generous with his affections before. There was no guessing about his feelings when Grayson was concerned. Bree could always tell what he was thinking, even without probing his mind. And that was usually sex when she was concerned.Bree was glad to be back in Grayson’s arms, in her home, with nobody to hear her moan and pant when he gave her pleasure. She was going through all the motions of seduction, but why could she see Brandon in the corner of her eye?‘Get out of here, you pervert.’ She hissed, scolding her brother through their link.‘That’s not Grayson, Bree.
