Edira's Pov

"What do you mean we have to warn Ricco? What's going on? Did you have a vision?" Baldo asked, and I nodded. "Yes, I did. I saw Ricco getting hurt, and it did not end well!" I replied, and Baldo gulped.

"This will not end well, Edira. I can feel it. With Ramon and Ricco gone, the pack will face a dark future ahead." Baldo sighed.

"I need to warn Ricco, Baldo." I replied, and I closed my eyes and put all my energy into connecting Ricco. My body was trembling, and I repeated the words repeatedly, determining for him to hear me.

Baldo placed his hands above my arms, channeling his energy with mine.

Ricco's Pov

We had been running over these mountains for days, and it was getting harder to get ahead.

More wolves were sent out to take us down, and the battles grew more challenging.

I had a hunch that something was coming at us, something dark.

I wanted to save Marise but knew I might need Edira to help us find the Black Shadow Pack's hiding and take down whatever was coming

Juliana's Pov I cast a defense spell, which created a temporary opening through the shield, but we had to be quick before it closed again. "This way," I shouted as we entered the building where she was held. I let my force of energy freeze every guard in our way, and we rushed up the stairs to the second floor. "Grab her, Valentino!" I screamed once I kicked open the door, turned, and threw a defense spell at the witch and a colossal werewolf coming down the hallway. I already knew they would come, and we would make it out, but I would be drained for days after this rescue mission. Valentino had the girl in his arms, and we exited the building and zoomed out of the shield, running the fastest we ever had before. It was night now, and the darkness was creeping around us. I hear nothing except my own heavy breathing and Aesira's impatient stomping. "Let's go now, Rona," Aesira said through the mind link. I looked at Aesira as she walked impatiently across the trail and quickly ducked around the tree branches, leaning over the pathway. The full moon shone down on her red fur, and the sheen made it look like she was set on fire. "Yeah, let's go," I replied through the mind link. Aesira took the lead and soon found a stable rhythm I could quickly sink into behind. She leaped joyfully over a rock and made a great leap over a river that crossed our way. We made our way deeper into the forest. We had run for two consecutive days, and the forest we traversed was elongated and thick with trees and wildlife. But we didn't see an issue with that. The other animals ran the other way when they sensed us coming. We're two big werewolves, after all. And humans were scarce in this area of the woods.

  • Fighting Alphas: Catching Fire   Chapter One: Marise

I am tired. We are tired of running. We had to look above the shoulder all the time. Knowing that the dark hunters would get us if we dared to stop and take a breath. We have spent a year crossing the borders of Europe. We never stayed at the same place for more than a few hours, and then it was time to run again. But from whom are we running? And who am I?My name is Marise Hyman, and I am eighteen years old. I am a werewolf. I was born in Russia into the "The Black Shadow" pack. It is the most giant pack in the world. Our pack grounds are high up in the mountains, far from society. But we don't have to worry about being seen by humans since we have a protector that keeps our ground hidden. How? Magic. My family contains me, my mom, and my sister Edira. She's not my blood sister, but she's been living with my family since I was 5, so I consider her my sister now. Edira is part wolf, part witch. This mix is not popular amongst our kinds and is called Impure-bloods by many. To me, that

Edira's PovMy name is Edira Vatroslava, and I am twenty-one years old and a hybrid.Which means that I am a witch and part wolf. My mom's family comes from a solid and old, pure bloodline of witches who can manage the fire element. We can do other spells as well, but the fire element is our base ground. My wolf's name is Aesira; she has red fur and is really fucking cool.Since I am a hybrid, she came through to me the first time I turned fifteen. Typically, your inner wolf would contact you around your tenth birthday. We did our first shapeshift around my 18th birthday, which was more painful than it would be for a full-breaded werewolf. It took me a few months to perfect the shifting, but it was worth the pain.My mom, Juliana, was shot in a cold-blooded murder when I was seven.A big witch hunt occurred fourteen years ago, where most witches were ordered to be shot on sight by the big five Alphas and the vampire king.Mom and I ran through the forest by Marise's pack border, follow

Marise's Pov We participated in a great event to represent the pack just one month before my 18th birthday. I was nervous to go, but I had Edira for support during the night. It occurred in a magnificent place, and the theme went in gold and red. Orfeo had bought me a gold dress that covered my body from head to toe, but a strip was tied around my waist to give it some form. It was a friendly atmosphere, and everyone attending was dancing, eating, and drinking together. Many of the top-ranking wolves were there that night. Edira and I ran away from Orfeo and his family on our arrival. We hid in the back of the ballroom, drank champagne, and enjoyed each other's time. We had such a blast together, and I remember being happy for a while, forgetting my horrible reality. Throughout the evening, I felt a presence in the room seeking my attention. And soon, the air around me was filled with the fragrance of the first snowfall of the year, mixed with leather and jasmine. It was so intoxica

Ramon's Pov Oh yes, baby, just like that. Mmm. Good girl. Fuck, baby. Keep going... Mm. Yeah. I grabbed her hair and pushed harder into her mouth and cum. "Mmm, yummy." She smiled at me like the fantastic mouth-fuck she was. But that's all she is to me and will ever be. Since that night, I couldn't touch another girl like I used to. I only saw the girl with long dark hair and piercing blue eyes—the girl who knocked me over and stole my heart in one heartbeat. Fuck, her juice smelled terrific, and I was dreaming about her every night. I was playing it all over and over again. I always woke up when Marise turned around, and the last thing I saw was her eyes, full of horror before I woke up breathless. If this fucker had never attacked me, she would have been under me this year; she would beg me to take her again and again. She would stand alongside me, reigning with me over our pack. When I recovered, I tried to find her, but she'd been gone a long time. A woman named Ana told

Marise's Pov It was August, and the temperature in Spain was hot; a heatwave was taking place, causing the grass that was once green and lush to brown and burnt down. Edira and I spent most of the day in a river in the woods, a few miles from the cabin. It was unsustainable to be indoors. It was a sauna during the daytime, and we still needed to fix a fan or air conditioner. We found a shallow part of the river where we could sit and splash around most of the day to cool off. We could sit and talk for hours or just be quiet. I loved that with Edira. We did not always have to speak, but we could sit quietly in consent and enjoy each other's company in silence. I just needed to feel her presence to feel calm. I was so lucky to have her in my life. She is so wise and kind with a brave heart. Sometimes it feels like she has lived for an eternity, and I often find myself deep in thought after we have spoken for hours, processing it all. "How are you today? Your energy feels calmer and

Ramon's Pov We arrived at the cabin, and I nodded to Ricco to check on the house as I looked around the courtyard. Only a little to see. But I could sense a familiar smell beating on me. She had been here. Marise. The girl I've been trying to find for a year. I yearned for her so much. The girl who drove me a bit mad during her absences. I felt my wolf, Nero, go utterly crazy within me. This can't be true. "Ricco. That's her." I yelled and ran inside the cabin, which smelled more pungent. Ricco turned around and ran into me in the chamber. "Are you serious?" He looked at me with an air of confusion. I nodded. "Yes. She was here." We were interrupted by a roar that hit us from the woods. F*ck. One look at each other, and we ran out and moved into our wolves and departed in the direction from which we heard the roar coming. Several other roars were heard, and I could feel my increased rage. I could hear motions through the mind link from the young pups, and one of them was hurt. Idi

Ramon's Pov. "Make it stop!" I growled to Edira when I felt my neck burn like it was set on fire. I had been tortured ever since Marise was taken, and it was getting insufferable. My body was weakened, leaving me vulnerable. And if it came out that the Alpha of the El Eclipse de Luna pack is weak, and his brother wasn't there to protect him in the presence... It would not end well. I saw Edira freeze in the movement, and the feeling of something warm was dripping down my neck. "I don't understand," Edira mumbled, her eyes fixated on my neck. Baldo frowned, and it looked like something clicked for him. "Mirrored pain...." Baldo mumbled, "What does that mean?" I growled at him, feeling the neck of my skin being torn off me. "I can't describe in detail for the moment, but I think it means that a mated pair will experience the same physical pain through a dark spell, but I don't know how it works in practice." Baldo stammered. Edira's Pov. Mirrored pain... If that was the cause,

Edira's Pov"There must be something we are missing here," I mused, glancing over the ocean. I could see Baldo nod and sigh in the corner of my eye. Marise had been gone for weeks, and my hope sank daily. I felt like the biggest failure. How could this happen? We were so careful.I finally thought everything was going to be okay. "It's not your fault, you know. Stop blaming yourself." Baldo mumbled, and I felt his hand on my arm. "I know that in my heart, but my mind tells me otherwise... I was so close to getting to her... But I just let her slip away. I don't understand how he got her. Marise would never run to him willingly." Baldo's eyes narrowed, and then he stood up quickly, "There is one spell that can let you take over other beings' will and power, but only a powerful witch could do that. And it would require the use and knowledge of black magic." Baldo clenched his jaw, and I felt my heart drop. "So Orfeo must have had a witch with him? And knowing Orfeo... It can't be

3 days since Marise was taken - Edira's Pov. The days passed by with no trace of Marise. Ricco had left the pack with two trackers hoping to find clues to where she was being taken. Ricco left Delta Rafaela in charge since Ramon could not rule the pack in his condition.Ramon was locked inside his bedroom due to his wrestling pain. The pain increased and was getting worse with every passing day. His whines shook the pack's ground, and the wolves ran with their tails lowered as their Alpha's pain weighed down their souls. But this also meant that Marise was in the same pain. I felt the tears streaming down my cheeks at the thought of Marise in the hands of that monster. Our worst fear had become our reality. Baldo and I tried to find a way to help Ramon, but we were stuck. No spell we had tried had helped him, and I feared that this was something that couldn't be stopped easily.Baldo introduced me to Niebla during this time. She was a very remarkable little woman. Marise's Pov I was so tired of running, but I couldn't stop myself from doing so. It felt like someone was controlling me from the outside, making me go forward. I was running through the woods quickly with the wind in my hair. I saw the nightfall come and the sunrise before me.And then I saw the face of the man I never wanted to cross paths with again. "There she is," Orfeo said with a smirk, and my brain screamed for me to turn around, but my legs forced me to go forward. "Bojana," He uttered and then glanced down at the petite lady standing next to his side, "It's time," He muttered, and the lady nodded before she stepped before me and hung a necklace around my neck. "With this necklace, now I seal this soul, loveless, fearless, and no emotions to longer grow. May this soul forever be dark, to never feel any more sparks or talk." Bojana kept mumbling, and I wanted to tell her off, but my whole inside froze. I couldn't move or speak. "Perfect," Orfeo mumbled when Bojana stepped

Ricco's Pov I have stayed away for a month, a whole fucking month. My mind is going wild; my wolf is crying, begging me to return to Marise. But I can't. She's my brother's...mate...I don't know why I feel like this. The only thing I can wish for is to find my mate, so this madness can stop... Because we can't be destined, Marise and I... That's impossible. This was so fucking unfair, and I don't know what I did to deserve feeling like this towards someone's other mate...I glanced out over the busy streets of Barcelona, wishing that this would all go away. Marise's Pov I went back and forth inside the condo, reflecting on the encounter with Ramon and Ricco... I was so confused. "Marise?" I overheard Edira calling my name while knocking on the door, "Hey!" I said when I opened it for her, and she stepped inside the hall. "What's going on?" asked Edira, and they stared at me, confused. "What do you mean?" I replied and frowned. "Ramon's acting crazy, and Ricco packed his bags and left."" He left?" I replied nervously,"That's your concern?" Edira said and wrinkled her nose. "What about your crazy mate?" Edira added, "What the hell is going on, Marise?" Edira sighed and fell on her back across the bed. "I don't know that myself?" I mumbled and lay down next to her side.We lay in silence for a while, and my thoughts were dispersed. Why did Ricco leave? And why did I feel so strongly connected to him?
