We're sitting at my kitchen table, our cheerful surroundings contrasting sharply with the seriousness of our conversation. I was too jittery for coffee when I got back home this morning, so steaming mugs of chamomile tea sit in front of us, inste

"I thought I told you to just survive for one night!" Kent says shakily. We're crowded in the kitchen - Kent, Brady, Jack, two regular officers, and myself."To be fair, boss, we did survive," Brady says. He's slumped in his wheelchair with a blanket thrown over his lap; Kent and Jack had carried him downstairs while I brought the wheelchair. "The Doc here was a real hero - you should've seen her go at that guy with the lamp.""You didn't see it, either," I pointed out.

I love my villa and would never want to give it up, but I can definitely appreciate the accommodations here, too.My bed is gigantic, for one thing. Plus, the mattress is down, making it the softest bed I've ever slept in. And the curtains on the

Everything seems to stick to her skin, and she can't seem to drink enough ice water to slow down the constant drip-drip-drip of sweat down her neck and small of her back.

“I don’t know that it’ll be enough for the police,” Marcus says to me early that evening, after Daisy has gone to lie down for a rest and the recording is in the grim-faced Alpha’s possession. “But it’ll certainly be enough for the Werewolf Council.”We’re in Marcus’s suite of rooms at the Mansion, eating dinner from trays sent up by Mrs. Potts and sharing a rather excellent bottle of red wine from the Alpha’s personal wine cellar. A rich Merlot – I savor it as I swirl it in my glass.

The dinner is sumptuous, one of the most elegant dinners I've ever had, even by Alpha-family standards. It's an old-school seven course dinner, with hors d'oeuvres circulating on silver trays along with trays of champagne while the servers set up for dinner. Then comes the soup, which is a crab bisque that I could eat all night long, even if there were no other courses. I make a mental note to tell Marcus that I definitely want it served at our wedding.Next are the appetizers - a sort o
