With what she had been doing for the past week, Olivia was definitely ready to meet Dakota again with her improved thievery skills. Sure, she was clueless about the other things that Dakota does in a daily basis but she was ready to take risks—or so she thought.
Since Olivia was a senior, it was easier for her to steal things from anyone. Erasers, ballpoint pens, keychains, and other random things from different people in school were peacefully staying in Olivia’s bedroom like a collection—a collection of stolen objects.
On Thursday last week, Olivia stole her history teacher’s favorite red gel pen because she was annoyed by the way she gives plenty of homework within a day as if she is afraid of not meeting her students the next day. She was not sure whether it was a good idea or not though because she ended up having the whole class listen to her drama for 20 minutes before dismissing class early—just because she lost her favorite gel pen. “It’s not just a pen. It’s the reason of my existence.” Olivia expected her history teacher to say that, but she unfortunately did not.
The next day, she stole another keychain from Rachel’s bag—it was an apple keychain this time. The blonde noticed that she was talking to her a lot more than usual as if they were friends, though she did not bother giving her attention to that as she just took it as an opportunity to randomly steal something from her. If Olivia succeeds in stealing something from Rachel again, she would then start to wonder if the latter is really ignorant or is just really letting her take her stuff on purpose.
Three days ago, it was Tuesday. Olivia succeeded in stealing the chain bracelet of one of the bullies in Tulip High when he left it on his desk in their classroom for math. His name was Travis, a junior yet even some seniors were terrified of him because of how merciless he is in making people suffer as if the crying faces of people were the only one that makes him alive. In short, Travis was a brute. A menace.
But Olivia managed to take something that belonged to him with no fear. Why would she fear him anyway? She trained self-defense when she was six years old and her father was the city mayor, even though no one knew that. Even though the rumors of Travis being infamous were known by every student in Tulip High, she knew that he would not be able to go further from what he usually does.
Currently, it was Friday in the third week since classes had officially started. The last class for the day was cancelled due to a teachers’ meeting. There was no practice for the basketball team as well so the others were just playing in the gymnasium for fun, though Theodore was just on the bench with Olivia.
“Let’s go shopping today,” Theodore said with an excited smile on his face as he turned his attention from the game to his best friend who was drinking carrot juice next to him.
“Nah, I have plans,” the blonde nonchalantly replied without giving him a glance.
It had been a week since Olivia met Dakota, and that was also the last time she saw her. She was eager to meet her again that she was always trying not to think of anything that was not Dakota for more than five minutes in order to not forget her face. Olivia did not know when would be the next time for her to see Dakota—or if there even was a next time. But while the fire was still blazing, she should not let it die that quickly yet.
“What?”
Olivia threw a glance on the brunet before returning her gaze on the basketball court while sipping on her juice, though she was not exactly watching the boys on the court play. It was more like trying to create an imaginary figure of Dakota there—almost like imagining her going to the same school as her and being the only girl who is currently playing basketball with the boys. If that did happen, Olivia would then start actually paying attention to basketball.
“I can’t go shopping with you today,” she simply responded.
“What do you mean you can’t? We go shopping every Friday!” Theodore was looking at her with wide eyes in surprise and pain. It was her first time not being able to go shopping with him when they always go shopping together every Friday for years.
“Yeah, I know. We can go next Friday or something.” The blonde then stood up with her bag. “I’m leaving now. Bye.”
“What? Where are you even going?!” Theodore stood up as well. The other boys were busy with their game that they did not care about the two of them.
“Female time, Theo. You don’t have to know,” Olivia said without turning to look at him as she continued to walk to the door while waving her hand.
Theodore could not argue more with that as he just slumped back down on the bench after staring at her back for a few seconds. He then began to think what she, his best friend, even meant by female time as he felt upset for being rejected for shopping. Shopping was literally their life.
While Olivia was walking across the hallway, Rachel suddenly stood in front of her which made her stop on her tracks and look at her with raised eyebrows.
“Hi, Olivia! There is a new stationery store near school. Do you wanna—”
“No. I have plans.” Olivia flashed a fake smile on her face as she did not bother letting the latter finish her sentence.
“O-Oh. All right. Maybe next time—”
“Yep.” The blonde then walked away from her and headed straight to the exit.
Olivia rolled her eyes when Rachel was no longer in sight. Why would Olivia even want to hang out with Rachel in a stationery store?
Fortunately, the driver was already waiting out the school gate so she did not have to wait for a few more minutes. As soon as the blonde hopped in the car, she told the driver to drop her off at the same convenience store where she met Dakota last week.
On the way there, Olivia started to create scenarios of what she would do if she did meet Dakota again there. Again. Because this was not the first time she told the driver to drop her off at that convenience store and started to think of the possible conversations she would have with her on the way there. It was almost like a daily routine actually.
Now that she thought of it, it might be impossible to meet Dakota in the same convenience store again after what happened with the cashier and their interactions. That thought made Olivia a bit down, but that was still not enough to make her lose hope.
She imagined Dakota to let out a long sigh if ever they meet again on the sidewalk near the convenience store and Olivia would tell her everything that she had been doing for the past week in order to make her proud. After listening to her story, Dakota would think she had great potential and eventually agree to be partners in crime.
“Yes. My partner,” Olivia accidentally said out loud with a smirk on her face. When the driver threw her a questioning look through the rearview mirror, she briefly widened her eyes in realization. “Oh, sorry. I just remembered a scene from one of the movies I recently watched.”
“Right.” The driver then returned his attention back on the road.
My partner.
Olivia realized she did not know Dakota’s name. All this time, she had just been calling her “my partner”. A bit delusional, but her ambition was stronger.
The blonde was looking out the window while thinking about the possible scenarios with Dakota when she did see her. On the sidewalk, there was Dakota walking.
With wide eyes in excitement, she immediately spoke without taking her eyes off the girl with red highlights, “Fred, drop me off here.”
“What? Not the convenience store?” he replied.
“Yes, Fred. Here. Now.”
The driver had no choice but to follow her order as he turned to pull over by the sidewalk. As soon as the car stopped, Olivia opened the door and got off the car without bringing her bag.
“I’ll just go get a taxi later. You can go ahead,” Olivia told him.
“But Olivia—”
“No buts, Fred. You can go ahead.” She flashed a fake grin and waved her hand.
As soon as the car started to accelerate, Olivia turned her head back to the direction where Dakota went as she quickly followed her.
Dakota turned right as she entered an alleyway. Olivia was about to follow her in when she realized that there were four men following her as they entered the alleyway after her. Nervousness and curiosity filled her in as she slowly walked toward the alleyway and waited until they were a bit far away from her in order to not get caught. When she saw the cement wall with small graffiti art on the bottom, she realized that it was the same alleyway where Dakota threatened to kill her.
“We don’t give a shit whether you were involved with Mathias’s mess or not. We’re gonna kill you here right now,” a man spoke.
Olivia carefully hid behind the wall as she peeked with only one eye to see what was going on. Just as she expected, Dakota was surrounded by four men who looked like thugs. The blonde was not sure on what would happen next as she decided to not do anything for now.
“That is if you can,” Dakota coolly replied.
“You’re as cocky as your brother, you little bitch.” One of them charged toward her and swung his fist in which she easily dodged.
The others rushed to take a hit on Dakota but she was too fast to take hit as she quickly gave counterattacks. One of them even pulled out a knife, but she easily took it away from him by grabbing his arm and elbowing his chest after.
Olivia, who was the secret audience, could not help but be more in awe to Dakota as she watched the latter kick all of their asses. It was a 4v1 match yet the only one opponent was easily defeating each one of them. Olivia felt ridiculous for feeling a bit intimidated by the men earlier because of their big physique and dark aura, only for them to end up getting beaten by a younger girl.
With one last punch, Dakota let out a heavy sigh as she stood there alone while staring at the four men whose faces were kissing the ground. When she saw one of them groaning and still moving, she did not hesitate to pull his collar and give him another punch on the face which finally knocked him out.
Dakota quickly turned her head in alarm when she heard footsteps coming closer followed with claps.
“As expected, my partner.” Olivia grinned as she continued to clap.
Like what she imagined earlier, Dakota did let out a long sigh as soon as she recognized her.
Tulip High was one of the schools that had four restrooms in total inside the campus: one for female students, one for male students, one for female faculty, and one for male faculty. Years ago, when Tulip High was still one year old since it was built, two of the big issues in the campus was bribery and teacher-student sexual relationships. There weren’t plenty of students enrolled in that high school yet at that time so there were plenty of chances for students and teachers to be alone together in restrooms. One of the teachers involved in bribery was caught after a student snitched, then another teacher involved in a same-sex sexual relationship turned out to be a wife and a mother of three children.Because of those issues, the president of Tulip High then decided to separate restrooms for students and teachers in order to avoid those issues from happening again even though they were unlikely to happen now that they became public.Unfortunately, though, there were still disadvanta
Saying something that is completely untrue in order to manipulate a person to be in favor with one would never be justifiable no matter what the reason is. Even by simply telling a person that one is wealthy for the other person to like one more is immoral. Lies of commission are what they would be called, and Olivia was good at using those.Ever since Olivia shared her story about having a miserable life in order to gain the attention and sympathy of Dakota, the latter changed—just a little bit. Dakota used to make it obvious that she did not want Olivia being around but now she was trying her best to hide it in case she hurts Olivia again. As if Dakota had always cared about hurting people’s feelings. The following days after that day when Olivia started telling lies about her life to Dakota were becoming entertaining for Olivia as she actually got to meet the latter every day. She went from visiting the convenience store after school every day with hope to meet Dakota again at leas
Purse? Check. Courteous smile? Check. Prepared Questions? Check. All that’s left to do was step inside and begin her mission. The blonde wore a smile on her face that was ready to feed lies as she stepped inside the grocery that was bigger than the small grocery that she and Dakota went to three days ago. People were in their usual lives as they roamed around the store with shopping baskets and carts without caring about the other people around. The employees were busy either assisting the buyers or rearranging the items in aisles that people purposely disarrange for literally no reason.Dakota told Olivia that she needed food for dinner so they were going to steal just a few. Olivia’s role was basically to distract anyone from catching Dakota while the latter does her thing, but that only lasted for a while. The blonde looked around until her eyes landed on the girl with red highlights who was walking around aisles with her hands buried deep in her pockets, waiting for the perfect ti
Like a completely different person, Olivia went to Mobi Street as if she was not just around there stealing jelly beans half an hour ago.“Hi.” She gave them a smile as soon as they saw her.Unlike earlier in which she had no makeup and was wearing a blue flannel shirt, a pair of gray baggy sweatpants, and dirty white sneakers—Olivia had a transformation over a short time. She suddenly had a cold because of the chilly weather of the last two weeks so she wore a surgical mask that was colored pink to match her fashion. She wore an off-shoulder long sleeved pink dress that was above the knee. Gold flat sandals. Different kinds of rings in each hand except the one Dakota gave since that belonged to her other self. Light makeup with an emphasis on the eyeliner along with gray contact lens that were lighter than her natural gray eyes. Lastly, a pink beret. She was definitely not the same person who was stealing in a grocery store with Dakota Soul earlier.“Hey! You came!” Theodore greeted
They did not meet up again until Thursday. And Dakota was not alone. Instead, she was with a girl and a boy who seemed to be their age. It did not feel nice for Olivia since she and Dakota were supposed to just be alone together, plus they were literally strangers to her—well, except the girl. The very same girl whom she happened to have eye contact with in the arcade. The blonde felt the same nervousness she felt when she used to care about debate contests before her mother died since she wanted her name to be announced as the winner every time and her mother was always there to watch her. Olivia stared at the raven’s face across her while trying hard to hide the nervousness from being obvious on her facial expression. Lia looked relaxed compared to her though she was not smiling as she stared back in silence. She was intimidating—or perhaps Olivia only felt intimidated by her because of the possibility that she might recognize her from the arcade three days ago. Lia lifted her h
It had been two weeks since Erica went to school because of what happened in the girls’ restroom which Olivia and the three girls caused. No one even noticed she was gone not until she got the courage to show up at school on a Wednesday. Some of the people at the hallway threw curious and contemptuous glances at her while the others simply did not care about her existence nor her absence. The poor girl was wearing an oversized hoodie and a pair of baggy sweatpants. Her hood was pulled over to try to cover her pale face. While her tormentors continued to live life and have fun, Erica had her mental health almost completely damaged. All of her life she just wanted to have a peaceful life with true friends without having to be the target of bullies, but life was really unfair that she could not have that. While walking at the hallway, there was only one thing that she was hoping for at that moment and that was to not meet or be seen by the four main girls that had been terrorizing her si
It was another day for them to add yet another sin on their list of sins. But there was something different than usual about the day.As soon as the partners met by one of the benches at the street, Dakota immediately felt a dark cloud surrounding them which was unusual because she felt like there was always a bright light around them whenever they meet. Olivia was always cheerful whenever they meet, and it always made Dakota think about how she looked exactly like a happy golden retriever especially with her blonde hair make the image perfect.Today, Olivia was a sad little puppy that made her heart ache at the sight of it.Dakota met her old social studies teacher from when she was a freshman in high school yesterday. That teacher had always been notorious for humiliating students whenever they get a low score in tests, and Dakota happened to be a victim of his back then. It was her first time to get a D for a test as she was not able to study the day before because of her mother wh
They stood across each other with their faces only a few inches apart while they stared at each other’s eyes. The other might not know it but both their hearts were beating in a fast pace.Dakota did not expect the blonde to do that as she had been frozen on her spot for nearly a minute. Shock was all over her face along with the red tint appearing on her cheeks as she blinked multiple times. She could not believe what just happened and she felt dumb when the first thing she thought of was I’ll only believe that it really did happen if she kisses me one more time.Unfortunately, their romantic eye contact moment was interrupted when a person abruptly sprinted past them followed by more running people. Instinctively, Dakota pulled Olivia by the waist to the side when she almost got hit by the people who were carelessly running on the sidewalk.“You damn thief! Get back here, asshole!”The two of them leaned back on the exterior wall of the stationery store next to the claw machine in e
In another place. In another fate. In another universe. Dakota wakes up on her squeaky single bed. It is another day to start the day. She gets up from her bed and heads straight to the bathroom to begin brushing her teeth. Her clothes that she will be using for the day is already prepared inside her small wooden closet. If only her room is only for herself, she would have bought a bigger closet. Dakota looks at herself on the mirror one last time once she is completely ready to leave. She runs her hand through her newly dyed orange hair and lets out a sigh, realizing what her new hair color means. A new hair color means a new chapter. And the new chapter in question is a new semester. Dakota walks out of the dormitory and joins the flock of students entering the university where she studies at. Her dream is just beginning as she stares at the huge logo of her university at the gate. “Hey! What time does your class start?” She looks at the person who suddenly appears next to her
The venue that was filled with delightful laughter and loud music was now filled with screams of terror and gunshots. The sudden change was like parkour. It seemed that it was going to be the biggest war to occur in Flyve City as the two most powerful gangs all came to fight.“Dead Soul vs. Blood Trouble” was about to be included in the future history textbooks.Dakota pulled Olivia to hide behind a rectangular that was pushed down to serve as a barricade instead of a furniture to hold food. She would take a peek and shoot the enemies that she could see, while the blonde would use whatever object she finds near her to hit whoever tries to get close to them. They were being great teammates. It was no wonder they became partners in crime.“Fuck you,” the blonde hissed as she hit the man’s head with a silver pot as hard as she could which caused him to fall unconscious.Olivia was panting from the exertion as she stared at the man lying on the floor in his unconscious state. A body was s
Just when the blonde thought that she was already completely falling into the void, the light came reaching out to grab her hand. Everything that happened all at once in one night was doing more to her than devastation that it was like each of them were throwing attacks on her until she ended up on the edge of a cliff—until she lost her balance and started to fall down to the never-ending hole with no one to catch her.Until she came to catch her.Olivia felt more than a hundred times better as she let herself totally fall into the taller woman’s embrace, wishing that the latter would just hold her and never let her go forever until she becomes okay again. The green-haired woman did not speak as she just hugged her tightly and gave her gentle pats on her back, letting the blonde cry as much as she wanted to. There was nothing that the gang boss could do but to just be there for her—because that was what Olivia only needed at that moment. Someone to hold her and make her realize that t
It all started on their sophomore year in high school. Theodore and his possessiveness of Olivia. They were already teenagers which meant that they were hitting puberty. The moment when hormones are developing to a new stage.“Give me your number.”Classes had just ended and they were all leaving school when a man with a man in junior year stopped the blonde from leaving. A smirk painted on his face as he shoved his smartphone toward the girl who absolutely no interest in the guy that was standing arrogantly in front of her.“Bold of you to assume I’d give you my number,” Olivia scoffed. She was about to walk past him when he moved to stop her again, making her roll her eyes. “I said, no.”“Oh? You’re being disrespectful to your senior.” He gasped, acting shocked at her response. “Girls like you need to be taught a lesson.”“What if I teach you a lesson?” Olivia threw a glare at him. She had to look up a bit because of their height difference.“In a kinky way?” His smirk grew wider as
A week passed by quickly since that day.Even though Dakota had always been softhearted to Olivia to the point that she could overlook every mistake she does, it was a first for the gang boss to stop being clingy for a while after a conflict.Dakota was speechless and shocked after finding out about how Olivia had to do things that she did not want to do for the sake of protecting her and their two friends. Dakota knew that Olivia was a changed person, but never did she imagine the blonde to be selfless for a decade just for her.The possibility of the two of them being in more danger by being together again made the gang boss suddenly snap back to reality. They were not the main characters in a love story with a happy ending, that was the fact. Dakota loved Olivia, but she was just realizing that it was wrong even though the thought of that hurt her a lot.The gang boss drove the blonde near the café that was near the hospital after finishing their lunch which happened quickly unlike
Everything that happened seemed to be fast. It felt like the first day that the blonde started to date Theodore was yesterday. It felt like the day that Theodore first confessed his feelings for her was just two days ago. It felt like she was just suddenly brought to the future in a split second with how everything had not been done processing yet.The blonde stared at the orange soda in the glass that she was holding as she swirled it around, watching the bubbles produce because of the release of carbon dioxide from the soft drink. She was told to watch TV to kill time though she did not even bother turning it on. Her head was currently full that she could not bear to let more things enter her brain from the television which contained plenty of things.“Hey, are you okay?” Olivia looked up and saw the green-haired woman with a curious and concerned look on her face as she sat down next to her while placing their food on the table in front of them.“Yeah, I’m fine,” the blonde replied
There were plenty of eyes around especially as it was daytime and the place was literally close to the hospital. Because of that, it really had become more difficult to meet up even though they wanted to.But it was not like that would stop them. The blonde walked in the café with a blank face. She had a natural posture and a calm expression on her face as she went to order a cup of cappuccino at the counter. It was currently work hours so there were not much people in the café except for people who were either having their break time from work or were just jobless.Olivia gave the barista a brief smile as she thanked him for her coffee before walking to a vacant table that was on the corner of the room, far from the entrance. She took out her phone and sipped on her coffee as soon as she sat down.“Do you even ever get a drink other than cappuccino?” On the opposite side of the room was a green-haired woman in a black leather jacket seated at a table while facing her laptop with a cu
The blonde was in deep concentration, processing the documents that started to stack because of her absence for a week. She realized how taking leaves at work were not always fun because the happiness would only stay for a specific duration, and she would later be in hell that’s hotter than before once she goes back to work.Olivia did not even notice someone entering her office because of how busy she was with her eyes glue on the computer screen, switching from the device and to the documents that were on her desk. She nearly jumped from her seat in surprise when the person knocked on her desk, making her finally look up and acknowledge the person’s presence.“Oh, Theo,” Olivia uttered as she leaned back to her seat and took her cup of coffee to take a sip on it. It was a good thing that the latter came by to her office because that would mean that she had to stop working for a while, which means that that would be her only break. “What’s up?”“Why didn’t you tell me that you had a
What was more romantic than a dinner reservation in a fast-food restaurant with a neat table that was fixed with a candle and folded napkins? Homemade dinner that would be cooked together. The rest of the night together was supposed to be romantic with the two women cooking their dinner together at the gang boss’s home. But it was not as romantic as expected.“Am I supposed to cut them like this?” asked the blonde after struggling to have her third cut on a single piece of potato.“What does it look—oh god.” The green-haired woman pursed her lips in as she gently pushed the latter aside and took the knife from her. “You’re even holding it wrong.”“Oh! I was?” She could not believe that Olivia was genuinely shocked at her statement.“Yeah. It’s basic knowledge that knives are held by the handle and not the blade,” Dakota spoke with a smile on her face to not make things serious. “It’s okay. I’ll handle it here. Just go wash the lettuce.”“Roger.” Olivia then went to the sink to finish
