“What?!” I exclaimed in shock and began rushing down myself.
“Marcy, come on, wait for me!” I heard Martha call out to me from behind as she tried to keep up with me. She didn't know why I was this anxious, I couldn't let my mates fight and kill each other.
Outside was crowded, the entire pack was watching the duel. Once I got there, I struggled to get past the people watching, I could hear their conversations as I walked by.
“Who do you think is going to win the duel, Alpha Ryker or Evan?”
“Hmm, I stand with Alpha Ryker. He is more experienced in fighting and when it comes to leading the pack, I think he is doing a good job so far”
“I disagree. Evan is a prodigy in combat hence his title as commander in chief to the pack's army. Through his current position, we can all see his leadership skills aren't lacking either. He deserves a chance as alpha, Alpha Ryker can't rule forever”
…
The arguments continued heatedly among the audience, I didn't care about who was alpha or not, all I wanted was to stop my mates from fighting to death.
At last, I got to the forefront. What I saw involuntarily formed a lump in my throat, I could feel the mate bond twisted in anguish as I watched them.
It was a duel to death. Each move or attack on the opponent was nothing short of fatal. They were strong, they were both bleeding from different parts of their body but none surrendered or stopped. They were really ready to kill their own blood… What deep rooted conflict could have caused them to be like this?
I couldn't bear to watch them fight anymore, I had only just known them yesterday but the bond already made me feel connected to them.
“STOP! ENOUGH!!!” I screamed at the top of my voice as I walked into the fighting circle.
All eyes turned to me and everywhere went deathly silent except for the fighting duo.
“Has she gone mad? What is she doing?”
“Does she know she just committed a grievous offence by interrupting a duel between alphas?”
“How foolish! Who does she think she is, Luna?”
…
I expected the reactions from the crowd, I knew I looked crazy but I cared not.
“Stay out of this!” Ryker said with a warning growl while in a temporary lock with Evan.
“I will not. I will not stand and watch my mates tear into each other's hides and worse still… kill themselves” I retorted with a firm tone.
My statement rose a round of confusion among the audience,
“This omega sure is brazen, she is going to die a useless death of she doesn't shut her mouth”
“Mates? Pfft… yeah right, in her wildest dreams”
“Father and son mates to one measly omega, she sure can dream”
…
Some people bursted out laughing and marveled at the impossibility of my statement.
Alpha Ryker and Evan stopped fighting and turned to look at me, Ryker looked even more livid.
“Go back inside, woman,” Ryker warned again.
“No, I will not go… not until you both stop this duel” I insisted, growling slowly.
There was silence again as everyone waited for what the two men would say next, they were probably expecting guards to take me away to be prosecuted for disrespect.
After what felt like hours which were actually seconds, Alpha Ryker exchanged looks with Evan before saying in a loud voice.
“The duel has been canceled. Please everyone return to your homes”
The announcement was of course not met with acceptance. A life and death duel was a fight till one person died so once initiated must be seen through to the end. This was the first duel to be canceled halfway and it was all because of me so that could only mean one thing…
What I said was true, both dueling opponents were my mates.
“No, Father and son mated to one person is unacceptable”
“Agreed. She is an omega too, she can never be our Luna”
“We will not accept this mateship! It's not right”
…
An uproar broke out and everyone began speaking heatedly. Meanwhile, I was relieved that the duel was canceled, I didn't think they would actually listen to me. I knew I was going to be in trouble when Alpha Ryker marched towards me and grabbed my hand roughly. He pulled me with him as he walked into the alpha building, Evan followed behind us.
I could only whimper because his grip was hurting my hand but I dared not to speak. We got into the building in a few minutes and the door was slammed shut.
“You crossed the line today, mate. Who permitted you to tell the pack about our bond? Huh… ANSWER ME!” His loud angry voice made me flinch.
“I…” I stammered, not knowing what to say when faced with the alpha's wrath, I unconsciously looked at Evan for help but he looked away as if to say I was alone in the one.
“Do you know what you have just done? The pack wasn't supposed to know, goddammit!” he continued barking at me.
“Don’t let him talk to us like that, Marcy. He has no right!” Celline suddenly came forward, seemingly angry at Alpha Ryker. Her mood lit up mine like a match and I began feeling angry too.
“What was I supposed to do? I was left with no choice watching you both fight to death. Have you forgotten that you are both my mates?” I replied to him with a bolder tone.
“First of all, he asked for a fight to prove a point and I never backed down from one. The fight has nothing to do with you, a weak omega like you had no right to interfere… I could get you beheaded for this”
“Hey, you should also know that I was ready to kick your alpha ass down to hell, I never back down from a fight especially the one I initiated” Evan chipped in. Seemed like he would never let Ryker have the last words.
“Secondly…” Ryker ignored him and continued, “We are not mates, I do not accept any bond with a mere omega and I'm definitely not sharing a mate with my son. So get over your head because I reject this mate bond” he spat out looking me dead in the eyes.
Celline anger crackled inside me and I retorted, “I am not an omega so don't call me one again, omegas don't shift but I did before your eyes yesterday. My name is Marceline and we are mates whether you accept it or not”
Alpha Ryker growled in warning and replied “Watch how you speak to me, I am still your alpha. I don't care about who or what you are, I refuse to accept the bond and that is final. Go cling to my son and stay out of my way”
“There he goes again about being the alpha, my due position. Anyway, I am not interested in the mate bond either. Omegas disgust me and sharing a bond with my father and rival is just plain nasty. I reject the bond as well”
Facing two rejections simultaneously evaporated my anger in seconds and I felt my heart hurt from heartbreak. They both rejected me like I was some trash to them…
“No, Marcy. We are definitely not trash…” Celline said in a sad but still angry voice.
I was about to reply to her when the door suddenly opened and the two people I would never wish to see ever again walked in.
My rapist uncle Levi and his wicked wife, Rena…
That was when all hell broke loose within me, Celline went crazy.
Celline growled fiercely within me and began struggling to come forward. I had to grip a chair to balance myself and push her back.“What is it, Celline? Talk to me, what is going on?” I asked in confusion.“These two people hurt us, I watched them hurt you and I couldn't do anything about it but now I can. Let me take them on Marcy, I will tear them to shreds” she barked out.I pushed her back with every willpower in me, “I understand your anger but no, they are still family and I don't want to kill anyone” I explained, it took a while before Celline finally calmed down.Meanwhile Alpha Ryker and Evan turned to look at the guests. “Council elder Levi and his wife, what are you doing here?” Ryker asked.“Greetings Alpha Ryker, I know this is a sensitive time to come around but as it is, this matter concerns me because Marcelline here is my late wife's sister's daughter” Levi said in a cool voice that irritated me and my wolf.“Oh, is that so? I didn't know. Either way, this matter co
Ryker looked down at me with a mixture of surprise and pity in his eyes. He knew the kind of danger I was facing and the fear in my heart was palpable. “Marcelline, you don't have to do this. You are not a slave, you are a wolf and you deserve to be treated with respect and dignity. You are not going back to that house, I promise you that” Ryker said firmly.I couldn't believe what I was hearing, the Alpha was going to protect me? I never thought I would find someone who would stand up for me and defend me against my own family. “Thank you, Alpha Ryker. I am forever grateful for your kindness and generosity. I will do my best to serve you in any way I can” I said with tears still streaming down my face.Ryker helped me up and turned to face Uncle Levi and Aunty Rena, who were watching the scene unfold in shock. “Marcelline has made her choice and I support it. She stays here in the alpha house under my protection. Any objections?” Ryker asked, his tone challenging.Uncle Levi and A
The room was dead silent. I knelt on the cold marble floor, my hands trembling as I clasped them together. The words I’d just spoken hung in the air like a suffocating fog.I gulped waiting for a verdict but got no reply. I didn't know what to do or say. So I repeated. “I offer myself as your slave. Please, let me stay. I’ll do whatever you want.”Alpha Ryker’s piercing blue eyes narrowed, his jaw tightening as he processed my desperate plea. Evan leaned casually against the wall, arms crossed, a mocking smirk tugging at the corner of his lips. He looked like he was enjoying the show.“A slave?” Ryker’s voice was low and controlled, but the edge in it made me flinch. “You’d willingly reduce yourself to that?”I swallowed hard. “Yes, Alpha.”Besides what was I before? A slave used and used until I was nothing but a broken shell.Ryker’s gaze bore into me, his silence more terrifying than any words. Finally, he stood, his towering frame casting a long shadow over me.“Get up,” he sa
The clang of pots and pans echoed through the vast kitchen as I scrubbed another grimy pan. My hands were raw, my fingers pruny from the endless washing. The scent of soap and grease clung to me like a second skin.“Move faster, omega,” Beatrice snapped, her sharp voice cutting through the kitchen’s noise.“Yes, Beatrice,” I murmured, keeping my head down. The other maids snickered, their laughter mixing with the sound of sizzling food and clattering dishes. I kept my mouth shut, focusing on the task before me. I couldn’t afford to draw more attention.“You missed a spot,” one of the younger maids, Clara, said smugly, pointing to a barely visible stain on a pan.I bit my tongue, scrubbing harder.“Pathetic,” she muttered as she walked past, bumping my shoulder.I stumbled slightly but steadied myself, refusing to react.“She’s like a ghost,” Clara said loudly to the others. “Doesn’t talk, doesn’t fight back. Maybe that’s why her mates don’t want her. Weak and useless.”“Even the slits
I stumbled back to the kitchen, my mind racing. The confrontation with Ryker felt surreal, an unexpected clash of emotions swirling together—fear, anger, adrenaline. The taste of defiance lingered on my tongue, but so did the bitter reminder of my punishment. The kitchen was eerily quiet as I entered, the other maids whispering among themselves. Their eyes followed me, wide with curiosity and perhaps a hint of fear. Clara spoke first, her expression somewhere between smug and shocked. “So, how did it go?” I didn’t respond, instead heading straight to the far side of the room, grabbing the nearest sponge and getting lost in the rhythm of washing dishes. My hands moved automatically, though my mind was still at Ryker’s desk, replaying the moments of anger, the proximity that had felt both threatening and intoxicating. “Bet you got a real telling-off,” Clara continued, her voice dripping with faux sweetness. “What did Alpha say? Did he give you a good scare?” The other maids giggled,
The day waned, and the last glimmers of sunlight filtered through the grimy kitchen windows, casting a melancholic glow over the clutter. Each tick of the clock seemed to emphasize the weight of my thoughts as I finished up the last of the dishes. The chatter from the other maids dwindled, replaced by the sound of forks clattering against plates and whispered snippets about the wedding.“Can you believe the Alpha’s actually allowing a pack wedding during Harvest Moon?” Clara was saying, her voice bubbling with disdain. “A real show of leadership, huh? But of course, we’re all just supposed to play our roles like good little servants.”“Better than sitting around twiddling our thumbs at home,” Beatrice snapped back, but even she seemed to struggle with the excitement and dread that loomed over the impending event. As I finished, I wiped my hands on my apron and caught Clara's eye from across the room. There was a challenge lurking behind her gaze, a flicker of rivalry that made my stom
I scrubbed, and I scrubbed, my hands raw and blistered. The stone floors of the east wing seemed endless, stretching out in cruel defiance of my aching limbs. Each stroke of the brush felt like a punishment in itself, a reminder of Ryker’s cold, unyielding glare as he handed down my sentence. My stomach growled angrily, a sharp pain twisting in my gut. Two days without food. Two days of this relentless, back-breaking work. My vision swam, and I had to pause, bracing myself against the floor to keep from collapsing.“Curse him,” I muttered under my breath, my voice hoarse. “Alpha Ryker, may your pillow be forever lumpy, and your soup always cold.”I resumed scrubbing, though my movements were sluggish. “May your boots always squeak, and may you step in every puddle on the way to every council meeting,” I grumbled. The words tasted bitter, but they were my only comfort as I worked through the pain and exhaustion. My fingers slipped on the wet stone, and I nearly fell forward. I caught
It wasn't going to be a beautiful day. I didn't need to understand science to know that the moment I had to deal with other maids that morning. My day would be the worse. The maids' quarters were a hub of whispered conversations and quiet giggles as I entered the kitchen early in the morning. My task list had already been posted on the wall: scrubbing pots, dusting the grand hall, and tending to the laundry.“Good morning, Marcy,” Clara greeted with a saccharine tone, her smirk barely hidden.I didn’t reply. I’d learned that nothing good ever came from responding to her.“Did you sleep well, omega?” she continued, her voice louder now, drawing the attention of the other maids. “Or did your mates keep you up?”The room erupted in stifled laughter. I gritted my teeth and focused on tying my apron.“Don’t ignore me,” Clara snapped, stepping in front of me. “You think you’re better than us because you’ve got two Alphas wrapped around your finger?”“I’m just here to work,” I said quietly
The walk back to the maids’ quarters felt endless, every step heavy with the weight of my thoughts. I couldn’t stop replaying the events of the morning, the intensity, the bond, the impossible situation I found myself in.As I pushed open the door to the common area, the sharp buzz of gossip hit my ears like a swarm of angry bees. The maids turned to look at me, their eyes filled with curiosity and something darker: judgment.“Well, look who decided to grace us with her presence,” Clara sneered, stepping forward with her arms crossed. “Have a good night, Marcy? Or should I say, the Alpha’s little plaything?”The words stung, sharper than I expected, but I squared my shoulders, refusing to let her see my pain. “I don’t have time for your petty insults, Clara,” I said evenly, moving past her toward the sink.“Oh, but we have time,” another maid piped up, her voice dripping with mockery. “You know, Marcy, some of us actually work for our place here. We don’t just... lie down for it.”A r
The first thing I noticed when I woke up was the warmth. It was everywhere, surrounding me, pressing against my skin, cocooning me in a way that made me feel both safe and... exposed. My eyes fluttered open, and it took a moment for the blurry edges of the world to come into focus. That’s when I realized.I was naked. My heart stopped, my breath catching in my throat as the events of the previous night came rushing back. The full moon. The bond. The way it pulled us together like an unstoppable force.I sat up abruptly, clutching the blanket to my chest, my gaze darting around the room. It wasn’t my quarters—it was larger, darker, with a heavy wooden bed that screamed dominance and authority.Ryker’s room.My stomach flipped as I glanced down. Evan was sprawled on one side of me, his chest bare, his hair a mess, and his lips slightly parted as he slept. His arm was slung loosely over my waist, his touch sending shivers through me even in his unconscious state. On the other side was Ry
Ryker didn’t hesitate. His teeth sank gently into the curve of my shoulder, the sensation a sharp mix of pain and pleasure that made me cry out. The mark pulsed with warmth, a tangible reminder of his claim.Evan followed suit, his teeth grazing my other shoulder before he bit down, his mark sealing the bond between us.The sensation was too much. I clung to them, my body trembling as the world around us seemed to shift, the bond solidifying in a way that was both exhilarating and terrifying.“You’re ours now,” Ryker murmured against my skin, his voice a low growl. “And we’ll never let you go.”“Never,” Evan echoed, his hands sliding lower as he pressed a kiss to my temple. “You belong to us, Marcy.”And in that moment, I knew it was true.Evan’s lips lingered against my temple, his breath warm as his hands trailed over my bare skin. Ryker’s grip on my hips tightened, his calloused fingers digging into my flesh as his heated gaze pinned me in place. The tension between us was electric
Evan was the first to recover. His warm hand closed over mine, firm and steady, grounding me in despite the chaos of the moment.“Marcy,” he said softly, his voice a soothing balm against the tension crackling in the air. “You’re right. This is real. It’s always been real.”Ryker’s growl was low, almost feral, as he stepped closer, the moonlight catching the sharp angles of his face. “This isn’t some fairytale,” he said, his tone clipped. “You don’t just get to decide—”“Decide what?” I shot back, cutting him off with a surge of confidence I didn’t know I possessed. “That I’m done feeling like I’m nothing to you? That I’m done being pushed and pulled like I don’t have a say?”Ryker’s mouth opened, then closed again. For once, he seemed at a loss for words. His piercing blue eyes locked onto mine, and for a moment, I saw something raw there—something that made my heart clench.Evan’s thumb brushed the back of my hand, drawing my attention back to him. “He’s an ass,” he said, his lips
Marcy’s POV“Did you hear?” Martha asked me as she hung a freshly washed shirt on the clothesline, her voice filled with excitement.“If it’s about gossip, I do not know. I do not pay attention to such,” I replied curtly, focusing on wringing out the damp towel in my hands.“It’s not just gossip,” Martha said, stepping closer to me. “It’s about your mates.”That made me pause. I raised an eyebrow, giving her a sideways glance. “What about them?”“They defended you,” she said, her voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper.I blinked, unsure if I’d heard her correctly. “What?”“Both of them,” she said, a hint of awe in her voice. “At the council meeting this morning. They stood up for you, Marcy.”I frowned, setting the towel aside. “What do you mean ‘stood up for me’? What happened?”Martha shrugged, her eyes sparkling with curiosity. “I don’t know all the details, but people are saying the elders demanded they reject you publicly. Something about unrest in the pack because of uou. Th
Ryker's POVI had spent the night pondering the hunter and his attack. His words haunted me, circling in my mind like vultures. “She’s a threat. You think she belongs here?”And yet, what haunted me even more wasn’t the hunter’s cryptic warning but the dreams that followed.Lola.It’s been twenty-five years since her death, and at fifty-seven, my heart still struggles to move on. She was my everything, her laugh the one thing that could shatter the weight of my responsibilities. Even now, her voice echoed in my mind, soft and loving, telling me to let go.But how could I, when my life seemed to be one cruel twist after another? The moon goddess made me a second-chance mate, only to tie me to my own son’s mate. Young, delicate Marcy, a complication I neither wanted nor asked for.I clenched my fists as I stared at the morning sun, its warmth doing little to thaw the ice in my chest. A cup of coffee sat forgotten in my hand, its bitterness matching my mood.A knock broke through my t
Ryker’s POVI tucked my hands in my pockets, my beta beside me as I walked through the shadowed hallway of the pack dungeon. The cold, damp air clung to my skin, the scent of blood and decay thick in the air. My boots echoed against the stone floor, each step a reminder of the task ahead.“Are you sure you want to handle this personally?” my beta, Darius, asked, his tone low but careful.“I don’t trust anyone else to get answers,” I replied without looking at him. “This bastard infiltrated my territory, attacked my pack, and nearly killed me and my son. I need to know who sent him.”“And if he doesn’t talk?”I glanced at Darius, my expression cold. “Then he dies screaming.”We reached the heavy iron door at the end of the corridor. Two guards stood outside, their postures stiffening as they saw me approach.“Alpha,” one of them said, nodding respectfully before stepping aside to unlock the door. The hinges groaned as the door swung open, revealing the small, dimly lit cell inside. The
His lips twitched, almost like he wanted to argue, but he didn’t. Instead, he stood and charged back into the fight, his wolf form emerging again as he tackled the hunter. The battle was a blur of movement, growls, and the sharp clash of steel. I stayed on the sidelines, my eyes darting between Ryker and Evan as they fought together to overpower the hunter. For a moment, it seemed like they had the upper hand. Ryker’s wolf form forced the hunter to retreat, while Evan’s blade struck blow after blow. But the hunter wasn’t finished. With a sudden burst of strength, he knocked Evan back, his blade swinging toward Ryker’s exposed side.“Celline!” I screamed, the panic in my voice matching the roar in my mind.“Now!” she shouted.I didn’t hesitate. I launched myself forward, grabbing a discarded spear from the ground and hurling it with all my strength. The spear struck true, hitting the hunter’s shoulder and throwing him off balance. Ryker and Evan seized the opportunity, their combined s
I woke with a gasp, my heart pounding so hard it felt like it might burst from my chest. Sweat clung to my skin, and my breaths came in shallow gulps as I sat up, clutching the blanket. The room was quiet, the only sound the faint rustling of the curtains as a breeze slipped through the cracked window.“Marcy,” Celline’s voice broke the silence, soft but insistent.“What was that?” I asked aloud, my voice trembling.“A glimpse of the past,” she said. “And a warning for the future.”I shook my head, trying to make sense of her words. “The wolves in the dream... were they my parents?”“Yes,” Celline replied. “They were protecting something. Someone. And now, the same danger circles you.”My stomach twisted, fear curling around my heart. “What kind of danger?”Celline was quiet for a moment before responding. “I don’t know the full extent. But I can feel it. It’s close, Marcy. Closer than we realized.”I swung my legs over the side of the bed, my hands shaking as I rubbed my temples. “Wh
