LYRA

I press my forehead against the cold marble of the kitchen island, trying to relieve the pressure that is building in my head.  Andrew and James have been pelting me with the same questions since I came down the stairs.  “I told you all I can remember,” I gently pound my head against the marble as I speak.  “Cain was definitely there when I was kidnapped, but there was someone else there too.”

“Was it his father?” Andrew repeats for the thousandth time.

“It did not sound like Edward,” I breathe in deeply trying to remain calm.

Andrew is pacing the length of the kitchen and with every step is getting more irritated.  “Did you recognize the voice?”

“I do not know, Andrew.”  I grit my teeth to keep myself from yelling.  “The voice sounded familiar, but it is not one I can place.”  I have been racking my brain for hours, trying to

  • Fated to the Enemy   Chapter 37

ANDREWAfter James and I force Lyra to eat a few granola bars she retreats to the guest room with her devil kitten. Her mind is exhausted from using her powers that James insisted she go lay down. Walking behind her, James is practically pushing her up the stairs while she protests. But as soon as she and that cat lay down on the bed her eyes are closed. James stalks back down the stairs and his jokester persona is gone. He sits on the couch beside me and holds his head in his hands. “What are we going to do?” He mumbles.“I am going to put together a team of trackers and find them and make them suffer,” I growl.James looks at me in disbelief. “You are going to just leave her here?” “She will have you while I am gone.” I place a hand on his shoulder and turn to face him. “There is something you should probably know.” “More good news. Yay,” James says dripping with sa

  • Fated to the Enemy   Chapter 38

JAMES Andrew and I are pacing back and forth outside of my bedroom door. The pack doctor chased us from the room when our hovering became “overbearing.” Every once and a while I press my ear against the door of my room and try to hear what is happening on the other side. Andrew occasionally leans against the railing and tries to feel through the mate bond to see if he can feel what is going on. But Lyra has her feelings closely guarded and has effectively learned to shut us out. Impatience and anger is rolling off of Andrew in waves, and I can tell that he is about to do something erratic. Just as he is about to explode, the doctor opens the door with a passive look upon his face. “Luna Lyra is going to be just fine,” he sighs, “but if we could talk some place private before I leave I think it would be for the best.”Andrew glances irritably into my room before nodding to the doctor and leading us both downstairs to his offi

  • Fated to the Enemy   Chapter 39

ANDREWIt is the morning of day three of Lyra’s heat and I am exhausted and dehydrated. When Lyra was not sleeping she was insatiable, it was never enough. When either James or I had to leave for pack business, it was a million times worse. Lyra was not happy unless both of her mates were touching her. I watch her sleeping soundly between James and I, and I cannot help but pray it is over. Her and James are sharing a pillow, their bodies entangled, and both have a trickle of drool running down their chins. I slip from the bed hoping to go unnoticed. Not having a moment to shower alone in two days I am looking forward to having the shower to myself. I tiptoe to the bathroom and close the door behind me quietly. I consider locking the door behind me, but that would be unfair to James if Lyra wakes and is still in heat. Hopping in the shower I do not bothering to wait for the water to warm up. I press my arms against the walls of the shower letting the water run do

  • Fated to the Enemy   Chapter 40

LYRAJames slept in his own room last night, giving Andrew and I some space to say goodbye. I spent most of the night crying and begging for him not to go. A feeling in the pit of my stomach mad this excursion to find Cain feel dangerous and wrong. I tried to explain this feeling to Andrew, and he dismissed it, saying that it was the mate bond making me feel that way. But this feeling was deeper, but without a vision of the future I could not win. So, instead of spending our last night together in each other’s arms we spent it fighting. Every item I could get my hands on I threw across the room, aiming for Andrew’s head. But he skillfully caught each item and sat it down gently beside him, which only made my frustration grow. What was the point of being a Silver Wolf if no one would listen to reason? “Did you have a vision?” Andrew asks, rubbing the sides of my arms. “Is that why you do not want me to go?”“I do

  • Fated to the Enemy   Chapter 41

LYRA We let our wolves chase each other through the forest until the morning sun began to peek over the horizon. Back on the front porch of the packhouse, our wolves finally relented, and we shifted back into our human forms. Lying on the porch floor, naked and covered in dirt, we attempted to catch our breath. Andrew turns on his slide and looks me up and down. “You look filthy,” he smirks wiping a smudge of dirt off my cheek. “You are equally gross,” I say pulling bits of grass out of his hair. “Come on,” I grab his hand and pull him to his feet. “Before the whole pack sees us naked on the front porch.” Leading him up the stairs and into our room, I head straight for the bathroom and turn on the shower. Not giving him a chance to speak, I shove him under the water. “Cold… cold…” he fusses as his back arches against the cold water. Stepping into the shower with him, I grab his body soap and begin lathering his body, scrubbing every bit of grime from his beau

  • Fated to the Enemy   Chapter 42

ANDREWI enter the front office the hotel and to my surprise Grace is waiting for me at the front desk. “It took you long enough,” she whispers, waving her hand for me to follow her to the back office. I follow her into the office and see that she has tea and cookies set up on a small table in the center of the room. This room is different from the rest of the hotel. It is nicely decorated and does not smell of mildew or mold. Beautiful turn of the century furniture adorns the room, and every inch of the room is clean. Thick burgundy curtains hang on either side of the single window in the room, keeping any light from the outside from being able to filter inside. A single light illuminates the room, if not for my wolf eyesight it would be difficult to see around the room. The glimmer of something round on the center of the table catches my eyes and I realize it is a crystal ball.“So,” she says sitting on one side of the table and gesturing for

  • Fated to the Enemy   Chapter 43

MR GRAYSONI watch as Augustus silently leaves from the back door with Lyra thrown over his shoulder. That son-of-a-bitch. I cannot believe that Cain would stoop so low as to send his own mate after her, or that his mate would even agree.Augustus was one of the strongest warriors of the Silver Wolf Pack until he was rejected by his mate. He refused to ever say who his mate was, I am assuming for fear that he would be killed by Cain and his father. The rejection was more than Augustus could take and his training began to suffer. Alpha Jason could not have a weak wolf within his ranks so he sent him to the Red River Pack, hoping the distance between him and his mate would help to heal the rejection. No one from Silver Wolf had seen or heard from Augustus after he left. It was not until I was approached by him at the school that I realized that he was still alive. When he came to me I noticed a silver mark on h

  • Fated to the Enemy   Chapter 44

ANDREWShattered glass is still all over the ground where Lyra busted through the front door of the building where she was being held. Blood still stains the ground and the glass. Unable to suppress my anger a growl erupts from my chest as we walk across the broken glass, knowing the pain that she went through to escape. Sniffing the air as I enter, Lyra’s scent is faint in the air along with several other wolves. Splitting into groups of two we each take off in different directions searching the building for clues to where they may have gone next. Following what is remaining of Lyra’s scent in the building I find myself inside I small room with a metal door. There is only a bed and a toilet within the room. Heavy metal chains lay abandoned on the floor with what I can only assume are silver cuffs at the end of each. Blood splatter remains on the bed and cement walls and floor. Stepping into the room a shiver runs up my spine as the signs of her abuse are

Erebus “I only turn twenty-one once,” Lucian whines behind me. Refusing to turn around I just respond to him with a growl. “You promised,” he adds in. Spinning around in my chair, his blue eyes are sparkling with fake tears and his lower lip is pushed out. “That does not work on me anymore,” I growl at him even though I feel my restraint begin to dissolve. “What will people think if they see their King out drinking at a bar?” “Ugh,” Lucian groans, throwing his neck back in frustration. “When did you turn into our mom?” Anger fills my body at being compared to her. I open my mouth to rebuke his comparison when I see his eyes flicker with amusement and a grin crosses his lips. “Where are we going,” I growl. His bright blue eyes glitter with excitement, “It’s a place called The Wolf’s Den.” “That place is a shithole,” I groan. Lucian is practically jumping up and down. “So you’ve heard of it?” “Can we pick a nicer location?” I rub my eyes roughly with palms of my hands

ELLA Checking my reflection in the mirror, I turn from side to side making sure that none of my ‘important parts’ are hanging out, as Gramps Walter likes to say. Carefully I check my makeup, avoiding my own emerald gaze in the mirror. Since I ran from my family in the Appalachian Mountains I haven’t been able to look myself in the eyes. These are the same eyes that belong to one of my fathers. A constant reminder that I am not the daughter they planned for me to be. My birth was foreseen, my powers were foreseen, and yet here I stand an ordinary werewolf. The color of my wolf’s fur should have been enough to serve as passage into the magical world of witches. But unlike any Silver Wolf that has come before me I am powerless. Practicing a fake smile for the mirror I don’t miss how my smile no longer meets my eyes, but lucky for me the bar patrons are always too drunk to notice or even care. I chuckle a little bit at my reflection, Gramps is going to throw a fit tonight. I h

  • Fated to the Enemy   Epilogue

LYRASixteen Years Later I watch as my daughter stares out of the window. The thick layer of snow that coats the ground reminds me of the night she was born. There was so much snow that even Andrew’s Jeep could not make it through the snow. I laugh a little at the irony of it all. Here I am largely pregnant, with swollen ankles, and my feet propped up on a pillow. It is the exact thing that I refused to do a little more than sixteen years ago. The look on my daughter’s face is one of worry and regret. I pat the couch beckoning her to come and sit with me. Leaning in I whisper quietly so no one care hear me. “She’s awake. Isn’t she?” I ask referring to her wolf. My question causes anxiety to ripple off her in waves. Hiding her face in her hands she tries to control her breathing. We already know she is a Silver Wolf. We have prepared for this day since she was old enough to understand. I have known that her wolf had awoken weeks ago, I can feel my power waning when

  • Fated to the Enemy   Chapter 83

LYRA The smell of cinnamon and apples fills the pack house. Abigale and I have been baking all day preparing for Chase and Annie to visit for an early Christmas celebration. My overly round belly is covered in flour because it keeps getting in the way. Every time I turn around I am knocking something over with my baby bump. Abigale has given up trying to clean up after me. I have been on my feet all day and my ankles are killing me. Looking down I can see that they are twice their normal size. My stomach is cramping, and it is becoming difficult to breathe. Abigale has tried to get me to sit down several times, but I really want to help. It is my first Christmas celebration with my mates and my brother, I want to do as much of the work as I possibly can. Bracing my hands against my back, I lean backwards trying to stretch my tight belly, but nothing seems to alleviate the pressure. Deciding t

  • Fated to the Enemy   Chapter 82

LYRAThe cold gel hits my abdomen, and it makes me jump a little. Andrew and James are beside me grinning from ear to ear. They look like little kids on Christmas morning. I try to hide the waves of anxiety following through my body. Deep down I know everything is fine. I have seen her in my visions, I know that she is okay. But that does not stop me from worrying. So many terrible things have happened since I got pregnant, what if the visions have since changed. There is a tiny voice in my mind that is making me doubt if my visions are correct or not.I keep my eyes closed tight while the doctor rolls the ultrasound wand along my stomach. Then I hear it. The whooshing sound of a heartbeat fills the room. Andrew and James squeeze my hand tightly. Placing my free hand over my eyes I let out a sigh of relief, but I still cannot bring myself to look at the screen. I feel Andrew’s lips against my

LYRAAbigale sits beside me and fidgets nervously in her seat. “Your brother is okay with it,” she says frantically. Laying my hand on top of hers I guess her a little squeeze. “Whatever it is, I am sure we will be fine with it too.”Taking in a deep breath and holding it for a moment, Abigale breathes out slowly. “Annie and I are not actual sisters,” she begins. “she is my stepsister.”“Of course,” I smile brightly. “If she were a werewolf her hearing would have repaired itself.” Abigale watches me carefully as I piece together her family tree. “You said that your stepmother wanted to teach you both about all of the magical creatures that live in this world?”“Supernatural beings,” Abigale corrects. “Yes.”“They are witches!&rd

  • Fated to the Enemy   Chapter 80

LYRAThis may sound crazy, but I simply could not wait for Grace to meet Prissy. I just knew that their had to be another person on the planet that Prissy did not want to murder, and I knew that Grace was that person. Linking my arm in hers I carefully guided her up the stairs to the pack house. Long gone is the youthful woman that trained me in the cabin. As soon as Lilith’s magic faded so did Grace’s youth, but I seemed to be the only one that noticed. Her once bright blue eyes are now a little duller than before and her beautiful black hair is now streaked with stripes of gray. When she smiles I can still see the vibrant, headstrong woman from the cabin, but I can tell that Lilith’s death has taken a toll on her.“The boys let me have a cat,” I explain excitedly. “Her name is Prissy, and she is absolutely perfect.”Grace pats my hand as we walk through the front door together.

ANDREW “I’m driving,” Lyra says as she grabs the keys to my Jeep from my hands. “Uh,” bile rises in my throat at the thought of anyone driving my Jeep but me. “Do you even have a license?” Lyra hops into the driver’s side and puts the key into the ignition and giving it a turn. “I mean not on me this moment. But I have one legally… I think,” she slides that last part in quietly thinking that I do not hear her over her revving the engine. “Nope,” I draw out the word before popping the ‘p’ with my lips. “You aren’t driving.” Reaching in I try to pull her from the seat, but she is ignoring me, fiddling with the dials on the dash and adjusting her mirrors. “When was the last time you ate?” She questions with an eyebrow raised and I can only glare in her direction because I know that she is technically right. I am in no shape to drive. “Exactly,” she chi
