ANDREW
All day. Lyra and James have been gone all day. It is getting closer to midnight, and I am starting to get worried. I have tried to mind link James several times, but I only hit a mental wall. I know his phone is full of unread text messages and missed calls from me and yet no response. Just when I am ready to head out and look for them, I hear Lyra and James as they burst through the front door. Both of them are laughing like they are old friends. Turning the corner into the hallway, I see them linked arm and arm trying to squeeze through the door at the same time. Lyra falls through the door flat on her face taking James down with her. They are both lying on the floor trying to stifle their giggles.
James pushes himself up and leans himself back against the door frame, holding out a hand for Lyra. Lyra rolls over to her back and bursts into another fit of laughter. “Shhhhhhhh,”
LYRA Leaving me to get myself cleaned up, Andrew heads downstairs to prepare for my father’s arrival. I was given strict instructions not to leave the bedroom, to which I only rolled my eyes. At some point I will have to face my father. Stepping into the shower I try to formulate a plan to separate my brother from my father. I know I only need a few moments to transfer my thoughts to him, a few moments to show him what my father has planned. As I turn off the shower I hear raised voices inside and outside of the packhouse. Running to the bedroom window I look out and see a group of my father’s warriors surrounded by warriors from the Red River Pack. “Shit,” I grumble to myself as I throw my clothes on over my wet body. Looking down the stairs I see my father and Andrew standing nose to nose screaming obscenities at one another. My brother is restraining James and Cain is standing off to the side with a smug look upon his face. &
ANDREWLooking down at Lyra’s body, she is still in wolf form. Normally when a wolf is knocked unconscious they shift back to their human form, but Lyra’s silver wolf is in control of her body. Even as a wolf she is small. I pick her up and carry her into the packhouse and lay her in my bed. Her breathing appears stable, but I mind link the pack doctor anyway. Goddess knows there are many men out there that need attending to as well. Peering out of the window I see both packs attending to their dead. The yard in front of the packhouse is littered with bodies. Some of the bodies are still in wolf form, others have shifted back. Normally we would burn the enemy bodies but as a peace offering I am willing to let them return home to their families. The wounded are sitting off to the side, trying to rest to speed up their healing. I cannot help but think what a waste all of this was.
JAMESAndrew’s bedroom door slams behind me and it makes me jump. Looking around Andrew’s bedroom, I can feel anxiety rising in my chest. I have been in this room thousands of times before but now it feels like I am an intruder. “I should not be here,” I mumble to myself.“She needs you,” my wolf, Ajax whispers in my mind. I look over to Lyra’s wolf form laying on the bed and it is like I am drawn to her; I cannot stop my feet from moving to her side. The sunlight filtering in through the blinds hits her silver fur and it glitters under the sun beams. I cannot help but reach out and stroke her gently on the side. If she feels my touch she does not react to it. Her chest rises and falls evenly in her sleep and every once and a while a little huff leaves her muzzle. Lyra’s wolf form is just as beautiful as her human form, and I can feel jealousy rising in my chest. “She will never belong to me,”
ANDREWTwo days. It has been two days that Lyra has been sleeping. James stays with her during the day while I attend to the pack, and I stay with her at night. We barely speak to one another anymore. Just a grumbled “hello,” as we pass each other in the halls. As much as I hate to admit it, I miss my best friend. On days that I can come home early I peek in on James and Lyra. His attention never waivers from her. I find him reading to her, gently combing out her hair, and telling her stories. Jealousy fills my soul when I watch them together. Her face is always peaceful when he is around, as if she can feel his presence and it calms her. She never looks as peaceful when I curl up beside her at night. “If she continues to stay out much long we will need to move her to the hospital,” the pack doctor says as he carefully takes Lyra’s vitals.“Absolutely not,” I growl. “She is not leaving this house.”Th
LYRAEverything is black, and then I hear a little voice counting. “One, Two, Four, Five, Seven…”Another voice breaks through the darkness in my mind. “Emerson,” the little voice squeals. “You have got the numbers all wrong again.”Slowly my vision comes into view, and I am in the stables at Silver Wolf. But the stables are different. The stalls are full of horses, they have never been full before. I slowly walk towards Snowflake’s stall, relishing in the feel of the straw underneath my feet. A feeling of shock overwhelms my body when I see her. Her beautiful white coat has turned gray, and she looks so much older. “Oh my sweet Snowflake,” I cry as she nuzzles her nose in my hair.“Ready or not, Mommy,” one of the little voices yells. “Here we come.”Before I know what is happening my fe
LYRA“You… You have to leave.” Andrew threatens.“Right. Already planned on it.” James says cheekily. In this moment I can only think of my arms around the little blonde-haired boy in my vision and the ache that I felt as he disappeared from my arms. Alva always said that that the future was fickle. One wrong moment could change everything. And here I am, standing in the wrong moment. I reach in my mind for the vision of the future, and it is gone. Just a faded memory burned into my brain. Andrew stomps back into the house, leaving James laying on the ground. Bending down over James, I use the hem of my dress to try and clean up his wounds, but he only pushes my hands away. “Please,” I beg. “Let me help.”“The less we touch the better.” James breathes out heavily. “It will make it easier when I leave.”“My heart is already broken,” I admit. “I j
LYRAIt feels like a thousand different emotions are pushing their way through my mind. Guilt and shame are at the forefront, and I know those emotions are not coming from me. “Good,” I grumble as I stomp my way up the stairs. “I hope he feels awful.” James’s room is the first door to the left of the stairs. I raise my hand to knock on the door, but I hesitate. What if he does not want to see me?“I can practically feel you thinking on the other side of the door,” James yells from inside his room. “You can come in.”Slowly twisting the doorknob, I peek my head inside his room, and I see that the room is torn apart. Suitcases and duffle bags are thrown on the bed with clothes just shoved inside them.James is standing beside his dresser, shirtless. I cannot help but drag my eyes over his torso as he throws clothes onto the bed. He is slimmer than Andrew, but just as muscular. His hair is a bit longer on
LYRAAndrew tosses me on his bed, and I land with a bounce. Once his hands are no longer on my body I have time regain my self-control. Scrambling to my feet, I back away from him before he can touch me again. Andrew is stalking towards the bed, looking at me like I am a prize to be won. I am surprised that I do not feel any jealously coming through the bond between us. Only longing and fear.“Stop,” I yell, putting as much force behind the word as I can. Much to my surprise, Andrew stops in his tracks. “You cannot just steal away important things in my life because they are inconvenient for you and then make up for it with sex.”Andrew rakes his fingers through his hair and sits down on the bed. Not trusting myself to be near him, I take a seat in the chair across the room. “How would you feel if I had another mate?” Andrew places his head in his hands and grabs a fi
Hello, my lovely readers. I just wanted to pop in with an update. I know that many of you are waiting to see what happens next with Ella and I am just as eager to tell you. I am just waiting for the okay to post here or maybe it will be loaded in a separate book. I will update as soon as I know, I promise. Thanks to everyone that read Fated to the Enemy. It has always been a dream of mine to put what is in my imagination on paper for people to read. Thank you all for making my dreams come true.
Erebus “I only turn twenty-one once,” Lucian whines behind me. Refusing to turn around I just respond to him with a growl. “You promised,” he adds in. Spinning around in my chair, his blue eyes are sparkling with fake tears and his lower lip is pushed out. “That does not work on me anymore,” I growl at him even though I feel my restraint begin to dissolve. “What will people think if they see their King out drinking at a bar?” “Ugh,” Lucian groans, throwing his neck back in frustration. “When did you turn into our mom?” Anger fills my body at being compared to her. I open my mouth to rebuke his comparison when I see his eyes flicker with amusement and a grin crosses his lips. “Where are we going,” I growl. His bright blue eyes glitter with excitement, “It’s a place called The Wolf’s Den.” “That place is a shithole,” I groan. Lucian is practically jumping up and down. “So you’ve heard of it?” “Can we pick a nicer location?” I rub my eyes roughly with palms of my hands
ELLA Checking my reflection in the mirror, I turn from side to side making sure that none of my ‘important parts’ are hanging out, as Gramps Walter likes to say. Carefully I check my makeup, avoiding my own emerald gaze in the mirror. Since I ran from my family in the Appalachian Mountains I haven’t been able to look myself in the eyes. These are the same eyes that belong to one of my fathers. A constant reminder that I am not the daughter they planned for me to be. My birth was foreseen, my powers were foreseen, and yet here I stand an ordinary werewolf. The color of my wolf’s fur should have been enough to serve as passage into the magical world of witches. But unlike any Silver Wolf that has come before me I am powerless. Practicing a fake smile for the mirror I don’t miss how my smile no longer meets my eyes, but lucky for me the bar patrons are always too drunk to notice or even care. I chuckle a little bit at my reflection, Gramps is going to throw a fit tonight. I h
LYRASixteen Years Later I watch as my daughter stares out of the window. The thick layer of snow that coats the ground reminds me of the night she was born. There was so much snow that even Andrew’s Jeep could not make it through the snow. I laugh a little at the irony of it all. Here I am largely pregnant, with swollen ankles, and my feet propped up on a pillow. It is the exact thing that I refused to do a little more than sixteen years ago. The look on my daughter’s face is one of worry and regret. I pat the couch beckoning her to come and sit with me. Leaning in I whisper quietly so no one care hear me. “She’s awake. Isn’t she?” I ask referring to her wolf. My question causes anxiety to ripple off her in waves. Hiding her face in her hands she tries to control her breathing. We already know she is a Silver Wolf. We have prepared for this day since she was old enough to understand. I have known that her wolf had awoken weeks ago, I can feel my power waning when
LYRA The smell of cinnamon and apples fills the pack house. Abigale and I have been baking all day preparing for Chase and Annie to visit for an early Christmas celebration. My overly round belly is covered in flour because it keeps getting in the way. Every time I turn around I am knocking something over with my baby bump. Abigale has given up trying to clean up after me. I have been on my feet all day and my ankles are killing me. Looking down I can see that they are twice their normal size. My stomach is cramping, and it is becoming difficult to breathe. Abigale has tried to get me to sit down several times, but I really want to help. It is my first Christmas celebration with my mates and my brother, I want to do as much of the work as I possibly can. Bracing my hands against my back, I lean backwards trying to stretch my tight belly, but nothing seems to alleviate the pressure. Deciding t
LYRAThe cold gel hits my abdomen, and it makes me jump a little. Andrew and James are beside me grinning from ear to ear. They look like little kids on Christmas morning. I try to hide the waves of anxiety following through my body. Deep down I know everything is fine. I have seen her in my visions, I know that she is okay. But that does not stop me from worrying. So many terrible things have happened since I got pregnant, what if the visions have since changed. There is a tiny voice in my mind that is making me doubt if my visions are correct or not.I keep my eyes closed tight while the doctor rolls the ultrasound wand along my stomach. Then I hear it. The whooshing sound of a heartbeat fills the room. Andrew and James squeeze my hand tightly. Placing my free hand over my eyes I let out a sigh of relief, but I still cannot bring myself to look at the screen. I feel Andrew’s lips against my
LYRAAbigale sits beside me and fidgets nervously in her seat. “Your brother is okay with it,” she says frantically. Laying my hand on top of hers I guess her a little squeeze. “Whatever it is, I am sure we will be fine with it too.”Taking in a deep breath and holding it for a moment, Abigale breathes out slowly. “Annie and I are not actual sisters,” she begins. “she is my stepsister.”“Of course,” I smile brightly. “If she were a werewolf her hearing would have repaired itself.” Abigale watches me carefully as I piece together her family tree. “You said that your stepmother wanted to teach you both about all of the magical creatures that live in this world?”“Supernatural beings,” Abigale corrects. “Yes.”“They are witches!&rd
LYRAThis may sound crazy, but I simply could not wait for Grace to meet Prissy. I just knew that their had to be another person on the planet that Prissy did not want to murder, and I knew that Grace was that person. Linking my arm in hers I carefully guided her up the stairs to the pack house. Long gone is the youthful woman that trained me in the cabin. As soon as Lilith’s magic faded so did Grace’s youth, but I seemed to be the only one that noticed. Her once bright blue eyes are now a little duller than before and her beautiful black hair is now streaked with stripes of gray. When she smiles I can still see the vibrant, headstrong woman from the cabin, but I can tell that Lilith’s death has taken a toll on her.“The boys let me have a cat,” I explain excitedly. “Her name is Prissy, and she is absolutely perfect.”Grace pats my hand as we walk through the front door together.
ANDREW “I’m driving,” Lyra says as she grabs the keys to my Jeep from my hands. “Uh,” bile rises in my throat at the thought of anyone driving my Jeep but me. “Do you even have a license?” Lyra hops into the driver’s side and puts the key into the ignition and giving it a turn. “I mean not on me this moment. But I have one legally… I think,” she slides that last part in quietly thinking that I do not hear her over her revving the engine. “Nope,” I draw out the word before popping the ‘p’ with my lips. “You aren’t driving.” Reaching in I try to pull her from the seat, but she is ignoring me, fiddling with the dials on the dash and adjusting her mirrors. “When was the last time you ate?” She questions with an eyebrow raised and I can only glare in her direction because I know that she is technically right. I am in no shape to drive. “Exactly,” she chi
