"Let her go!"

Benjamin shouted at Rain, who was holding her hand by Jace. They almost ran out of the barn if Rain didn't stop and save Jace.

Just then, someone greeted and reprimanded Ben. Ben looked away from Rain and returned his friend's greeting.

Slowly, Rain turned to Benjamin, standing a few meters behind her. Rain looks very nervous. She let go of Jace's hand. When Rain turned her head to the side, the place was already empty. Jace wasn't there anymore, and she didn't know where he had gone. Jace's departure was too fast for Rain to even notice.

Benjamin walked over to Rain.

Rain averted her eyes from Benjamin and looked around for Jace.

Benjamin's expression changed from worry to confusion. "Who was that person? Is he bothering you? Do you know him? I saw that he forcibly pulled you."

Rain panicked. "You saw him leave? That man?"

Ben frowned. "I don't know. I just saw someone tugging at your hand from a distance. Did the man run away? So he hurt you? Let me go after hi

Rain exhaled heavily with a pounding chest. After she was sure no one was there, Rain tried to walk towards the door to look for Randall. Just as she arrived at the doorway, someone suddenly grabbed her from behind and yanked Rain against the wall. The automatic light leading to the door flashes brightly whenever there is movement. Right at that moment in Rain's face, Jace looked at her with a scary grin. Black runes fused with veins adorned half of Jace's face, neck, and even all over Jace's naked body. Jace's hair was a little messy, and with red eyes were full of anger. Jace's clenched left hand landed on the wall beside Rain's head. Rain held her breath and couldn't move at all. "Jace, what do you want from me? I called you several times, and you didn't answer. I think--" "How dare you ignore me?" Jace growled right in Rain's face. Rain could smell the perfume on Jace's body even though he wasn't wearing a shirt, just a pair of trousers slightly drooping down his hips. Rain

Rain opened her mouth to protest angrily but was cut off by the shrill sound of the cell phone. "Pick up!" said Jace. "Maybe it's important." Rain squinted and was suspicious of Jace. "Why is he so loose on me?" Rain's cell phone stopped ringing. A few seconds later, it beeped again. This time it was longer and sounded very urgent. Rain frowned. She checked her cell phone screen and saw the hospital number on it. She was a little surprised. "Did something happen to my father? Some time ago, he contacted me using his cellphone," thought Rain. "Even though I can't afford to pay rent for an apartment, I'm never late for a hospital bill." Rain decided to take the call. "Hello?" "Oh, Rain! Oh, thank goodness." His father's voice rattled like a radio that had lost its signal. Rain's back ached. She thought it was the hospital staff telling her something terrible. "Oh, Dad, you don't have to use the hospital phone to call me. You must use your cell phone, and I'll answer it." "Not

  • Fated to the Beast   47| Fall in Darkness

There was a giant creature with the body of a wolf, the head of a buffalo, and large black horns standing in the hallway of the third floor of the hospital. While standing on its two hind legs, the monster's spine bent slightly. The tail is long, like the tail of a buffalo. The black furry creature was very tall and massive. Four black eyes are set in a row right in the middle of the face, and Its snout resembles that of a wolf with an incessant sniffing nose. A shriek of fright escaped Rain's throat. She staggered backward until she bumped into something besides the infirmary door. Rain fell as the creature lunged at the room door where she was hiding. The thumping and cracking of the door kicked with great force echoed throughout the treatment room. Rain rolled to the side and scrunched up behind the door very hard. The beast sniffed through its snout like a wolf looking for prey. Rain rolled again quickly as the creature lunged on its two front legs. Rain slid across the cold

  • Fated to the Beast   48| Spark

Thousands of lights seemed to pierce Rain's tightly closed eyelids. There was a high shrill sound like a child wailing in fear in the distance. Rain felt nauseous and then opened her eyes very slowly. "My head hurts!" Rain groaned. Her bare back and arms felt like they were stabbed by something sharp and cold. Rain moved her hand. Her palms felt like she was lying on the wet and cold grass. Rain looked up and stared at the sky that stretched black and dense. "There are no stars. No moon. The sky was really dark. Where am I now?" Someone walked over and knelt beside Rain's head. The girl looked up with difficulty. She saw the figure of Jace Dauntess, still wearing a hoodie to cover his ugly face, apparently kneeling there. Rain was ready to say the words, but Jace put his index finger to her lips. "Shut up and don't make a sound!" Rain nodded weakly. Not far from where Rain was lying on her back, she could hear a shrill voice splitting her ears. Rain turned her head to the side

Rain could faintly hear the voices of several people talking not far from where she was. Rain still couldn't open her eyes. Her body and eyes felt heavy, but her ears could pick up on the sounds. "They're talking about me? It's the voices of Jace and Erica." Rain felt like sleeping all the time. Somehow she felt very comfortable where she was now. There was a sweet scent of chamomile tea and warm croissants wafting through her nose. Rain's stomach was churning. She's starving. "When was the last time I ate?" Rain tried to squirm but couldn't. "It's dangerous here. We'd better go back, Your Majesty!" "I will take Rain to Darkwood." "No, Your Majesty! Let's leave the girl here!" said Erica. Rain sharpened her hearing. "Why? Why did we take it off after we got it?" Jace protested Erica's decision. Erica sounded a sigh. "We don't even know if she's a witch or not?" "Isn't what we've seen enough evidence to prove that she's a witch? If we don't bring her back now, we won't have

  • Fated to the Beast   50| Storage Lockers at Athens Station

"At which station?" Jace was getting annoyed. They had flown back and forth to several nearby stations and had no results according to Rain's father's instructions. "I don't know, Jace. I thought the station my father was referring to was the closest in town or the closest to the hospital where he was being treated. But we did not get anything from all the storage areas in the two stations." Rain spoke without looking at Jace. She looked very panicked and also tired. They were at the last closest station they could get to. "Do you have any other clues?" Jace was getting impatient. "That's a clue we're working on right now." Rain sighed and chose silence while sitting in the carriage. Her hands clasped to her chest. They decided to take the train to the next station, wrapped up in silent anger. Rain stayed close to Jace. The girl felt a little guilty, especially when she saw that Jace looked exhausted. Rain didn't mind being silenced. She had a chance to think. Rain kept relivin

"Very unpleasant welcome!" grumbled Rain. "It looks the same!" said Jace. "What?" Rain is very frustrated. "These lockers! Everything is the same. The shape and order of their numbers are nothing special. Are you sure you're here?" Rain released a breath she didn't realize she had been holding in for a long time. "Good!" she said. Rain reached into her coat pocket and pulled out a key from it. "Do you have a key?" Jace couldn't believe it. Standing in one of the lockers, she noticed a scratch on the door. The last time she was there was about five years ago. Rain still remembers that her father left something in the locker before they left for the city to start a new life. "These scratches look like long, continuous claw marks being scratched deeply into the wood. Are you sure this is the cupboard?" "I don't remember. It was five years ago. And when you pointed at the giant gourd, I suddenly remembered this locker." Rain put in the key without thinking, and the locker door op

Suddenly in the middle of the stairs, Jace raised his hand and made a stop motion. Rain couldn't quite see Jace's gesture, but because the man had stopped, she stopped too halfway up the stairs. "What is it?" Rain whispered in fear. "Did you find anything up there?" "I don't know, but I don't feel any demons present at the moment. I don't think there's any trace of them in this old house." Rain took a deep breath. "Then why did you suddenly stop?" "Is there a specific place you want to go? Because there's no way, we can go around all day looking for something we don't even know what it is?" Rain sighed. "Okay. I want to try to see my room." "And where exactly is it?" Asked like that, Rain froze. She had no memory of where her room was or anything that connected it to the house. She only remembered the willow tree in the front yard and that too vaguely. Before they could go any further towards the top floor, suddenly, the door on the ground floor where they had entered creaked.

Currently, the distance between Rain and the owner of that name was only separated by a double black door.Without hesitation, Rain immediately pressed the button beside the door hard, fast, and repeatedly. Or is he part of Hardy's pack?"Rain's thoughts were broken when she heard Erica's voice."Are you coming for the girl or me?" With sweat pouring from her temples, Erica asked, but her hands were steady and tightly gripped by the whips in her hands. The wolf stepped towards Erica with a low growl."There's still time," Erica said. There was only Rain's heavy breathing and the sound of her fingertips trying to tug at the door handle and banging, all to no avail."Damn it! Erica locked me in here. What does she really want? And my dad, why is he involved in all this? He was behaving very strangely. He's not like my dad, but someone else who is a complete stranger."After trying various ways to escape Jace's room and failing, Rain finally smashed herself against the door again and again until she was tired. "I want your promise first," Erica said firmly one more time."First? You don't believe me, Erica?" Markus smiled humorlessly. "I will definitely do as you have asked. A promise is a promise. Although I was a bit surprised when I received your message. I didn't think you would mind living in a palace as grand as this. You never like being in silence?""You don't know how that feels," Erica hissed. "Every time I feel afraid if the child dies.""That's right. I don't know." Mark's voice sounded sad as if he pitied Erica. But there was dislike in Mark's eyes. There was also reproach in his tone.
