CHAPTER NINETEEN

APLHA LESLEY I was finally in the meeting room with Jeremy and the rest of the pack elders. We were deliberating on Mira's issue. I didn't know why I was suddenly tense and restless. "I do not know why you have so much faith in that woman. Would she be able to save our pack? Come on?" "I thought we talked about this before?" Jeremy interrupted. His eyes were glued on me as he asked the question. I had made a mistake. I lied to Jeremy that I had already talked to the elders about it, and they agreed that Mira should come into the pack and save everyone. I only talked to a few elders. They had doubts, but they agreed to give her a trial. "What makes you think that an ordinary woman like her would be able to save this pack?" An elder argued. "We have tried different mediums. We have consulted different healers, and they were only able to tell us fortune without giving solutions." "Some even gave us fake portions to take. Instead of making our warriors stronger during the battle, it made them weak." I sighed deeply. "She is not here to give us any portion to make us strong or weak during the battle," I tried to defend Mira. The elders looked unhappy. None of them seemed to believe that Mira would be able to save the pack. I was ready to do anything to be able to prove to them that Mira would be able to save the pack. "She's here to test our DNA and to also take their DNA sample. This woman we are talking about is ready to wipe out their entire wolf by just having their DNA sample. I didn't know why the last words I said gave me goosebumps. Cold shivers ran down my spin, even as I was done talking. "How sure are we that this woman can actually do this? What if she's lying?" "She can do it," Jeremy backed her up. Jeremy seemed to be defending the woman so well. I wondered if he had any special interest in the case. He defended her effortlessly even though she was not here to applaud him for that. "I brought a solution to your desk, and you all want to throw it away?" Jeremy boiled. "This is the last time I would make any suggestions concerning this war. The next time we are under attack, I will make sure to hide with the omegas and the children." I didn't know why I found Jeremy's statement funny. I almost laughed loudly, but I struggled to hold my laughter in. I looked at the faces of the elders. Their hardened expressions began to soften a little. "Well, it's not like we do not want the pack to finally gain freedom from the constant attacks, but..." "But?" Jeremy asked, his right eyebrow inching higher. "Okay, let us pretend that it is true. She can actually wipe their wolves from their DNA and render them powerless. She's taking our DNA too, right? What if she mistakenly wipes ours instead?" Again, my heart sank into my stomach, and cold shivers ran down my spin. "She is taking our DNA to avoid such mistakes. Do you think she would be so careless? Why would she take up this job if she woud not give it her all?" The argument continued for a while until the elders finally agreed to let Mira do her job. They asked us to bring Mira in front of them. "Let us examine her and ask her some questions." Jeremy called for a guard and sent him to get Mira. The guard walked away after bowing in front of us. I hoped that Mira would be able to prove herself to the elders. It would be easy for Jeremy and I to go ahead without the elders getting involved in our affairs, but I wanted us to follow the right proccesss. I didn't want us to look like the rebels who went against their elders. Even Jeremy had that look in his eyes. The look that said he would rather go on without the elders than wasting his time to call another fruitless meeting. "I do not think we are supposed to keep stressing this issue even until this time. I hope we all are aware that she would not stay here forever? She has her home, her job, and her daughter's school go attend to." I nodded in agreement to what Jeremy had said. Mira had told me earlier that she would leave once the school section resumes their academic activities. If that happened, then we would lose the only opportunity we had to win over the rogues. The guard soon returned with Mira. She bowed and greeted the elders. They began to ask her questions concerning how she planned on helping the pack defeat their enemies. "You take away their wolf. You take away their powers. A person without a wolf would no longer have the will to live, aside from the fact that they become physically powerless. They also become emotionally and mentally down. They no longer have the will to live or fight. Even the ones who want to fight until their last breath would be too weak to. That way, we can take them all out." Mira turned to me immediately after she ended her talk. I furrowed my brow and looked away from her. The elders seemed a little impressed. I hoped that the question and answer section would end, and thankfully, it did. "Well, now that we know how you intend to help us. We have been tricked a lot of times by people who could not tell us the truth that they are powerless. We do not want that to happen again." Sweat strands began to drop down my forehead because I already knew where all of these would end up. "We would like to test you to ensure that you are not here to trick us like this others did. We would like to know that you are genuine." While the elders spoke, the tension in the air began to grow higher and higher. I turned to Jeremy. He gripped the table tightly. I knew he was struggling to lock his anger in. I too, was angry at the elder for spitting trash. I didn't know if calling Mira to the meeting room was already a bad idea. I kept moving around on my chair. "So, are you ready to cooperate with us room see if you will pass this test or not?" Mira turned to me with an accusing look, hissed and walked away from the meeting room angrily.

We had been together for years, and whenever we got together like this, it was only to cause mayhem or something worse. We usually forgot all out pains, and this was the part where I'd completely forget that I had issues going on in the pack. Things were not going as planned, and it bothered me so much. I was still thinking about the pack and their refusal to let me start planning my revenge. The elders were torn in my flesh. I wished I could get the DNA sooner, I would deal mercilessly with them. I was still thinking when I noticed someone familiar walking out of one of Lesley's chambers. I looked closely, narrowing my eyes to be able to take a clearer look at who it was. My heart sank deep into my stomach when I realised who it was. It was Sharon. My best friend who took me in when I had no family. She did everything she could to replace my loss and fill in the gap. I looked closely at the picture of the woman standing right in front of Lesley's door as she walked out of the house, heading towards the exit of the palace. I wanted to be sure, and truly, it was Shar

I gulped down hard, tightening my fists in an attempt to calm my anger. I had no idea why stepping into this place and encountering her father once again had somehow managed to bring back all the memories I had been trying to bury, thereby adding a degree to the anger I felt for my daughter. However, I had made myself a promise earlier to stop taking out my anger on my daughter—the anger caused by the sins of her father.
