Chapter Three

Liam’s POV

Consciousness returned slowly, bringing with it a pounding headache and memories that cut like shattered glass. I checked the wounds and bites I got from the battle of the day before and surprisingly, they’d healed more than I expected; shocking, because even with my Alpha healing ability, this healing was fast. Too fast.

One hundred and fifty rogues. That was the amount of rogue warriors that were sent to attack my father’s pack. After learning about the ambush, I felt obligated to protect my father’s pack, feeling I owed him that much considering how I left him a few years ago.

It was a shame that I didn't spare any of those imbeciles' lives. It would have been easier to torture and question them to spew the bastard that sent them, but since I didn't, I thought it dutiful to wait and investigate the situation while being undercover.

I recalled the techniques and weapons the rogues used. It was advanced technology, engineered specifically for the ambush and I knew no ordinary pack could create such a thing. The ambush was planned, coordinated, and definitely sponsored by someone extraordinary. A part of me wondered if whoever sent those rogues had something to do with the incident of two years ago, but that wasn't what bugged me most at the moment.

What bugged me the most was the memories of the brown-haired girl from the previous night. The second she stepped inside my guest room, the world shifted, a ripple in the air that crashed over me like a storm breaking against stone. Christ, she was beautiful. So fucking captivating and striking.

Her eyes, a wide, rich, depthless pool of lava with an intensity I'd never seen before. The rawness of the emotions in her eyes, buried so deep that most people wouldn't see but I did. It drew me in like a raging storm that I lost my willpower in.

The beautiful curls that danced around her face, framing her high cheekbones and soft features that had different stages of healing bruises and scars. I buried my fist deep inside my thighs to fight the raw unfamiliar urge to run my fingers across them.

Her cheap blouse clung to every lush curve and I couldn't ignore the way it perfectly accentuated the sweeping line of her frame. The dip of her waist, the luscious fullness of her hips, and a thick round ass framed around a tiny waist made more blood than necessary rush to my cock.

And the scent she carried, it wasn't just the alcohol. There was a blend of something earthly and ethereal…something sweet and sour…something I could almost taste in the air between us, igniting a pull I'd never felt before. Delicate but with an underlying hint of power that made the animal within me stir restlessly.

My wolf was acting in a way that I could barely control. My instincts, honed over years of survival and self-discipline, lost the self-control I'd fought to keep. Everything I've buried, every primal urge roared to life, and for the first time in what felt like a lifetime, I crossed the line I’d sworn by.

Partially because she was a force to reckon with–a little yet primal being that fitted into me seamlessly and partially because...

The innocence and fierceness of her voice, her melodious moans when she cried with pleasure, the instant connection, and how she received me with such passion…Such rawness and fierceness. I couldn't fight it, I couldn't control it, then l lost my grip and marked her not once or twice but three freaking times.

“Fuck!” I growled, ruffling my hair. Three fucking times, how does one come back from this?

How did I let this happen?

Because of the injuries I sustained when fighting those rogues, I took a soothing portion that made me very horny. I was so horny that I began to touch myself in my bathroom and that was when she entered my room.

“Mate” my wolf growled lowly when my grey eyes landed on her brown ones.  Usually, we hated that word. We cringed at the mention of it but somehow, this time was different. It was beyond incredible, the amount of effect she had on me but all that shit wouldn't have happened if I hadn't taken that healing potion that made me maddeningly horny.

But that lady, who was she? Where was she?

My eyes scanned the unfamiliar guest room, taking in the chaos–scattered clothes, tangled sheets but something else caught my attention. On the side of the bed where the mysterious lady lay was a pile of cash and a written note.

Hi… it's me, the lady you had a one-night stand with. I don't know who you are but I beg you not to look for me. I belong to someone else and last night was a mistake. I was drunk and utterly disheveled. I take every blame for my actions. So please, accept this token as a symbol of my apology and compensation for any inconvenience. I’m really sorry.

I reread the note over and over again, just to be sure before crumpling it on my palm, anger making my blood boil.

What in the world did she think of me? I get that she was drunk but was the sex that bad that she had to settle me off? Who the hell did she think she was?

Does she know who I am?

I’d been with many beautiful women. Many of high calibers, Alpha daughters, and high-ranking she-wolves, but none of them had dared insult me in this manner.

The nerve of that little thing!

No woman or man had ever made me so small. So cheap. It was both absurd and intriguing but I needed to find a way to rectify this matter.

‘Find her’ my wolf demanded with a low growl. ‘And when you do, make her feel the impact for the rest of her life’

Ragnar, my wolf is right. I’d find her and when I do, apologizing or compensating me would be the last thing on her mind. I don't fucking care if she belonged to someone. I, Liam Shadowfang, am the Alpha King, and everything I want as far as the werewolf clan is concerned, I get.

“Lord Alpha, you called me,” Killian, my beta and most trusted comrade, said as he entered my room. He and a few other warriors had lodged in the guest room next to mine.

“Yes, did you or any of the other wolves, by any chance, see a lady leave my room earlier today?”

“Not at all, Liam”

I grunted, huffing and holding the bridge of my nose.

“Send scouts into the pack, I need you to find a brown-haired lady with deep brown dove eyes. She is average height, pale-skinned, and slim but with wide hips. Find her and quietly bring her to me and then we will leave the pack. She’s insulted me, and I need to teach her a lesson,” I ordered, and Killian bowed and walked out.

The whole day went by with Killian and some of his warriors searching but it all was to no avail. When evening came and my patience ran out, I opted for the only option there was.

Compromise.

Since little miss brown-haired was a member of my father's pack he or any member of his cabinet must be aware of her whereabouts. I would use them to dig her out. If none of them can find her then they will suffer great consequences.

“Get the cars moving, we are going to pay my father a visit”

Third person POV

Alex had never been angrier. He detested many things but the one thing he detested the most was Liam, his stepbrother.

He hated that Liam was everything he ever wanted to be–powerful, smart, intelligent, and fiercely handsome, catching the attention of the prettiest girls in the entire North Central pack. And now, most especially, he hated that Liam, a bloody rogue and illegitimate son, had become the Alpha of Alphas and his superior.

Smash!

Alex threw his phone against the wall and it broke. His anger doubled as soon as he got to the frontage of the packhouse, and he saw his father, the Alpha of the Snow Valley pack, waiting for the arrival of his illegitimate son with excitement in his eyes.

“Dad, let’s go inside. If Liam can find his way to the pack after five years, he definitely can find his way to your chambers” Alex snapped at his father.

From the moment he heard of his half-brother’s return, his blood began to boil. He could not get over the fact that Liam was a big threat to his chances of becoming Alpha.

“I’m sure he can find his way to my chambers, but I desire to wait here for him,” Alpha Shadowfang pointed out in a tone that marked the end of the discussion. Unknown to him, his simple statement had riled Alex up.

“Why father? Why do you suddenly act like you care for him? Is it because he’s become King? That son of a bitch neglected you, the pack, and his responsibilities five years ago…”

Alpha Shadowfang interrupted sharply.

“Enough, Alex! Quit the incessant chatter”

“No, you should quit fangirling over that bastard. I get that he's now Alpha King so what bloody what? It doesn't change the fact that he isn't pure blood. You shouldn't let him infiltrate or visit your pack without prior knowledge! He has no right”

Damn, he hated his brother. But that wasn't the only reason he was so riled up about Liam’s sudden presence in their pack on the day he was to be crowned Alpha.

Growing up, he and his mother were vile and hostile to Liam and his mother, and now he feared that Liam had come for his revenge, meaning the position he sacrificed so much to secure was at stake.

Heck, he even had to sacrifice his own happiness and bloody married Ariana, the woman he despised rather than Natalie, the woman he loved and hoped to spend the rest of his life with. She was sexier, prettier, and more active in love-making, but Arianna was the only one who could give him what he wanted.

He’d seen the glow of the lunar sigil on her shoulder and knew that she was a red wolf, the rarest werewolf species that appeared once in every millennium. He’d read in history books that when mated by an Alpha, they gave birth to strong pups and that a droplet of their offspring’s blood could kill a thousand werewolves and he needed that for his plans.

“Why do you seem upset about Liam’s visit? You should be happy that the Alpha King would be present in your coronation,” Alpha Shadowfang said, trying to understand Alex's bitterness.

Be happy about his brother's return? Funny, he would rather die.

“I can't stand him.” Alex hissed and his father flicked at him. “Look, the best I can do is tolerate him for today, and that is if he doesn't get on my nerves. Otherwise…”

“Otherwise what? Liam is Lord Alpha, and the Snow Valley pack is his home. He is eligible to stay here for as long as he wants; you are going to be seeing him every other day, so if you can’t tolerate him being here, it would be best if you leave first,” Alpha Shadowfang said strictly with a threatening gaze. “Do not stir problems or make him feel like we are at enmity with him else we will all die”

Alex’s eyes darkened as his mouth parted but before the words emitted from his mouth, the pack butler rushed in panting.

“The Alpha King is here!” he announced breathlessly.
