Kyle’s POV…
“Mate!”I hadn’t realized what it was that had pulled me out of the pack house before I felt the pull. Now it all explains everything that took place. I was mad at the intruder for attacking me despite the level of trust I’d given her. After she ran away, I instructed my guards to bring her here so everyone could witness the punishment I had in mind for her, but I forgot all about that upon realizing she was my mate. I thought of something else then, something I’d wanted for a long time. She was beautiful. She was perfect.She would be just right for the job.“Release her!” I instructed my guards immediately. Everyone gathered in court stared at the both of us in surprise. Only mature minds knew what was going on, but I didn’t care about any of that. They were here to witness the punishment of the intruder, but none of that would be happening today. My mate is here, and the mate bond that brought her here explains why she trespassed in the first place. “This meeting is over. Everyone leave now!” Although shocked, no one dared to question the alpha’s command. I watched all my followers file out of the court, including the elders, until only me, my mate and a few guards remained. “You, too, leave!” I said to the guards. “Should we take the intruder, sir?” “No. Leave us. I want to be alone with her.” After we were left alone, I came closer to her and noticed something strange other than the mate bond. Is it just me? Or am I smelling something different? Why does she have two scents on her? “Who are you?” She asked me.“I should be the one to be asking questions here. This is my territory.”She bent her head. I could tell she felt remorse for her earlier actions. She’s fortunate; the only thing that could have gotten her out of punishment was the mate bond. “You stand on moonstone territory. I expected you to leave once you ran away, but you ran even deeper to these lands like someone without a sense of direction.”“I’m sorry,” she muttered. “It’s not your fault,” I told her right away. “It’s the mate bond’s doing. Once you pull away from your mate, it finds a way to bring you back, and now here we are.” She understood my words, but then I saw a bit of hesitation on her face, almost like she didn’t agree with what I said. “Might I know what you came here for?” I asked. “I was… I didn’t know I would come here.”“Of course, you didn’t know you would come here, but you must have travelled this far for a reason.”She looked at me for a moment as if searching for something, then bent her head. “I was running away.”“From what?”“From my abusive family.”“I pointed at the scar on her face. Were they the ones that did that to you?”“Yes,” she sniffed.I wanted to feel some pity for her, but then I reasoned something; I deduced she might be lying.“Why would your family abuse you in such a manner? It makes no sense.”“They are my adopted family. According to them, they picked me from the garbage where my real family abandoned me.”I felt real pity for her then, “oh, I’m so sorry.”She shook her head, “it’s no problem. I should be the one apologizing for trespassing on your territory. Thank you for sparing my life.”“You are lucky you bumped into me first. You would have been killed instantly if it had been one of my men.”“It’s good I bumped into you then. Thank you for sparing me, sire.”Her soft words made me smile. It reminded me of the main topic we really ought to be discussing.“You are my mate. Your pheromone attracted me, and mine did the same to you. But still, there’s something strange about you.” She raised her brow, “strange about me? As how?” “You have two scents—one I’m attracted to, and the other just there. I’ve never experienced such a thing before. How can my mate have two scents?” She then shook her head. “I’m sorry, but there must have been a mistake somewhere. I cannot be your mate.” “Mistake? There is no mistake. You are my mate. You felt the pull the same way as I did. It was what brought you into the forest in the first place. It was what brought us closer to each other. We are mates.” “I am sorry. I did not feel any pull, and we cannot be mates because I already have a mate.”Her words were hard to understand at first, but then I made some sense of them. “Oh, so I’m your second mate. You must have rejected your first, then.”“No. I have not rejected my first mate. I still have a first mate, and we are very much in love. He is the heir to my pack, the night walkers.”“So that’s where you’re from.” I sighed. I didn’t know if she would reject me, but it seemed so. She didn’t want this union, and neither did I. Still, that didn’t take away the fact that I needed a favour from her. I had intended to ask my first mate for this favour; strangely, she just happened to be the one. I don’t know who owns the other scent she carries with her, and I don’t understand why she didn’t feel the pull even though she called me mate, but I still needed this favour despite all the confusion. She interrupted my thoughts, “thank you for sparing me, but I have to return to my mate now. It’s already late, and my pack wolves would be worried if I’m gone for long.” Did she want to leave? Just now? No, I couldn’t let her go just now without at least letting her know what I wanted. “Wait for a few moments, please. What is your name?” I asked her.“I am Arianna. Aria for short.”“Such a beautiful name. Well, Aria, I am alpha Kyle.”“Okay, nice to meet you.”“Same as you.” “I noticed you’ve got two scents on you. Strangely, I’ve never seen a wolf with two scents before. Have you noticed two presences in you before? Perhaps what’s going on now might have been caused by that.” My words made her eyes shine for a moment as if a revelation had just come to her.“What is it?” I asked her. “Did you finally figure out the problem?”She changed her expression as soon as she saw how I was watching her.“Nothing,” she told me, thinking she’d ended it there, but I knew she was lying. There was definitely something she didn’t want to say to me. She was about to turn to leave before I stopped her, taking her hand. “What?” She seemed impatient. “I only want us to clarify this misunderstanding between us. Aria, if there is anything you know, please tell me, so I’ll know what to do regarding confirming my mate.”“There is nothing, and I am not your mate because I am already mated. There must be a mistake somewhere. I didn’t feel anything.”Well, confusion or not, I never wanted her to be my Luna in the first place. This mate of hers might have just saved me a great deal of stress by avoiding the heartbreak I would have given her. I cared more about the favour I wanted to ask her, so I decided to go right into it instead of continuing the argument. “Okay, I know you’re in a hurry to return but wait, I think it’s best if we both settle it like this. You didn’t feel any pull towards me, even though I did, and since you already have a mate, it makes no sense for you even to want this union at all.” She nodded her head, agreeing with what I said. I continued, “well, to tell you the truth, I am also not interested in this union because I, too, have a lover.” I never thought it would be so easy to let her know this right away, but it didn’t matter since none of us needed the bond. She replied, “that’s great, but what do I have to do with it? And if you had a lover already, why didn’t you just ignore the pull?” “I didn’t ignore it because I needed my mate to do something for me, even though I wouldn’t be accepting her. I thought she would agree if I could compensate her somehow.” Aria knew I was referring to her, even though we were still confused about the whole mates’ scent. “What thing did you want your mate for?” “I wanted her to give me a child.”Aria's POV…I was taken aback by his statement, "a child? From me?""Yes."He is a feared alpha, I should respect him, but I don't know what gave him the audacity to think that, so I had to ask, "why?"He answered me quickly. "My lover and I cannot produce one. So we needed a fertile wolf for that. I intended to use my mate after we accepted the bond, but since you are not interested, I thought I could at least still get my favour from you."Before I wanted to shake my head to oppose, he said something he thought might convince me, but it only got me more annoyed."In exchange for your childbearing services, I will offer you a house and a place in this pack. I will also offer you lots of money. You will never have to suffer abuse in anyone's hands, and you will also have protection. I will do that and much more if you agree to this."After he was done, he watched me, waiting patiently for my answer. I didn't waste time giving it to him. My face showed nothing short of intense anger as
Aria's POV... Somewhere around me, it felt like I was plunged into a pit of darkness. I could hear some faint voices that sounded quite angry. "You bitch!" Breona growled at me. "it's all your fault that I have to go through all of this. And you still can't do what is expected of you!" Her voice resounded far from my consciousness, and my lashes fluttered as I tried to get up. My head ached, and my vision blurred. Whatever Wade had hit me with did its job quite well. After what appeared to be a long minute of trying to remember my environment and how I got here in the first place, I sat up a bit. "Why would you do this to me?" I inquired in a coarse voice.Wade chuckled dryly, exchanging a knowing look with Breona. "She still thinks this is an actual joke. Now, listen...." He glared at me, crouching to my level. "you will finish the final rites and then we will decide what to do with you."Tilting my head a bit, "I don't want to. I will not finish that rite even if it would cost
Kyle's POV... I can't explain what had brought me to the exact place Aria was, an unexplainable sensation that ruled over my thoughts and made me restless. The urge to save her was so persistent I had to find her.Aside from that, I had positioned one of my men to give me every tidbit of what happens in the pack. Knowing she would be executed today, I had to do something to save not just her but my future. "Save me, please." She mumbled consistently. I doubt if she realized we are a bit far from the night walker's pack. With the way Aria sounded, she wasn't conscious yet.Now that she is so close to me, all I can perceive from her is the scent of two different people. "Why do you have two scents on you?" I inquired her, already feeling a bit disgusted. Even though it didn't seem like the right question to ask someone who was just on the brink of death, I couldn't help myself.Aria had her head hanging down. The trauma of her near-death experience still lingered within her. "Please
Aria's POV... Despite my weak state, my mind could catch every word he said. My neck ached as I stretched a bit forward to hear him well."What did you say?" I asked again"You heard me right the first time unless you have some underlying ear problem. I want a baby from you. Which means, for the sake of a dumb person like yourself, I need you to birth a child of mine."The way he emphasized his words had me reeling. What the hell does this guy take me for? A baby-making machine? And the way he said it like he was placing an order on a food site.My eyes rounded like saucers as I glared at him, "you must be really joking. Did you even listen to yourself before saying that nonsense?"Kyle laughed hysterically, "the pills they must have given you did notably tremendous work for you to have so much fibre to speak that loud. Do I look like a comedian to you? Why would I save your sorry ass if it would not be advantageous to me?"
Aria's POV... The kiss lingered for so long. I was beginning to think they had forgotten about me. My heart sank at the sight. Two times in a row, Kyle has consistently shocked me with his demand for a child, and now him revealing he is gay.It felt like my heart had been shattered to pieces for a brief moment. I thought maybe he liked me just a little bit for him to want to share an offspring with me. I was totally wrong; he obviously wanted nothing of me except the child.They finally stopped tormenting me with the kiss. Both of their eyes were filled with lust. I am certain they would take it further to the bedroom when I leave here. The mere thought of it had my heart sinking like the titanic when it hit solid ice.Kyle chuckled lightly, "Sorry, I forgot to mention it to you earlier. Barrin here, aside from being my lover, is also my Beta."His passionate way of introducing Barrin made me feel a pang of envy towards him. I have never been ch
Chapter 10Kyle's POVWatching Aria train is sour to the eye; she acted like a weakling, worse than I would have ever imagined. I had heard from Cassandra that she had been shown around the packhouse two days ago. I am quite sure she must hate having Barrin as her coach.I heard she refused to train at first until she realized no one else was a better trainer than him. My heart soared at the sight of Barrin; he looked so flexible and strong with how he moved. On the other side was Aria being beaten to a pulp by her partner. She could hardly move a muscle, so bad enough that she couldn't dodge a blow coming her way.It's her fault she has to endure so much beating; her body hasn't healed up yet from the pains her pack inflicted on her. I am definitely sure she would have a hard time sleeping tonight.Barrin walked towards her and her assigned partner. His look was enough to show just how disgusted he felt. I share in his emotions too."How weak are
Aria's POV...The word that goes about not knowing what you are capable of until you are left in a tight situation is exactly my case at the moment. After being treated and being outrightly ignored by Kyle to meet with his lover, I knew there was no way I would settle to be a baby mama and have only a house to show for it.All of the humiliation Wade and Breona subjected me to was because they had the power and could do whatsoever they wanted without being questioned. I don't intend to boss anyone around. But i also want to be in power and shield myself from being maltreated ever again.The look on Kyle's face had me feeling delighted. This is how it should be when you know you are in control.I was taken aback when Barrin let out a hysterical laugh, and Kyle's expression matched his. "Has this young lady lost her mind?" He bellowed.Kyle shook his head, "you have really got some nerves, Aria. Standing in front of me and making demands when you have no other option but to do what I wa
Kyle's POV...I have never been chanced to come across someone as bipolar as Aria. She switches so fast from this to that. One minute she is the meek and almost too timid lady no one would like to associate with. The next minute, her chin is fixed stubbornly, and she is making outrageous demands.But indulging in her requirement isn't so bad after all. The fact that Aria already knows what she is getting herself into is enough for me. I would get an heir and a pretentious Luna, and no one would come for me on being gay.I could feel Barrin's eyes on me, his wolf growling terribly. "Spill it already, Barrin," I mumbled.His spill was more like a roar when he did open his mouth. "Why in the world would you agree to make her your Luna?"I turned to hold his gaze, "what was I supposed to do then?""Have her do your will without her getting greedy." He responded, unflinching.I chewed on my lips for a few minutes with my eyes reading through him. "What exactly
Author's POV...Three Months LaterAria laughed loudly as she chewed on the cutout apple she picked from the plate in front of her. Ella had chosen to be the clown in place of Raven as she gave them a detailed report on how her wedding night had been."He acted like he had never seen me before. I had the best of moments." She sighed dreamily.Raven scoffed, resting on her elbows. "You act like you won't be returning home to him.""You are just jealous." Ella let out a tongue at her.Shaking her head, Aria sat up, adjusting the pillow attached to the chair to help ease her back. Things have been blissful since she and Kyle chose to resolve their issues by letting the past go and focusing on their future, including their unborn child. Her hand rubbed on her growing bump; she had never felt this much happiness in her lifetime. Barrin's death had taken a toll on them, but they have been able to get through it together.She has finally settled into her duty as the Luna, especially now that
Kyle's POV...My ears kept ringing consistently as the words of the doctor resonated. Aria is pregnant; she is carrying my child. I couldn't let my emotions get in the way of my plans for the Prowler's pack. All through the march towards the doomed pack with our armour and war trucks, even when we met with the hundreds of soldiers from other packs, I didn't know how I was supposed to feel. Either elated or deflated.The moment we got to the border of the Prowler's pack, grenades were thrown in to keep them off guard. Thousands of soldiers charged into the pack like we were at a real war. I had almost doubted the other packs would keep to their promise, but they showed up, proving they were wolves of honour. Some soldiers shifted and went into the woods to catch anyone who might try to escape from there.Some of my soldiers and a few others from the various pack had entered from the east side to attack the packhouse. I had instructed the men to wait for me to get rid of the Alpha befor
Kyle's POVMy heart pounded as I made my way to the large meeting room. Ever since Barrin got buried, I have been working hard and gathering my soldiers to launch an attack on the Prowler's pack. I do not care about what would become of me after the fight. One thing I know for sure is they would burn to ashes, and my revenge will be taken. I haven't been able to sleep or eat well for days; my treacherous heart and wolf keep yearning for Aria. I am supposed to hate her; it's because of her Barrin is dead. Most importantly, she is one of the enemies. I shouldn't forget that.I stood in front of the door; the guards had their eyes on me, expecting me to give the go-ahead for the door to be opened. I exhaled sharply, nodding for them to open the large door. I gasped softly at the fullness of the room. All of the Alphas I met with at the conference a few days back, except, of course, Anthony of the Prowler's pack and Wade of the Night Walker's pack, were all seated. Their eyes keenly watch
Aria's POV...It's been three days since I got locked up in the dungeon. I got to know because of the dim light coming from the tiny window that even a bird wouldn't fit through. Whenever the day shines, I get to see it from there. I had already lost every will to fight. Barrin must have been buried by now, died gallantly and deserves every respect given to him. The dry tears pricked at the back of my eyes. I haven't been able to shed any tears for a day now; it feels like I am dehydrated. No food or water has been passed onto me.Kyle really wants to teach me a good lesson. Maybe I should have surrendered to Wade the second time he had me. I shouldn't have strived to live. If only I had a glimpse of what would become my future, I definitely wouldn't have returned here. Kyle and Barrin would have lived happily ever after with me gone.Ella is the only one who got to sneak in to see me; she said Raven isn't in the right state of mind to face me at the moment. I don't blame her either;
Kyle's POV...My heart felt cold, and I could say that I didn't feel any kind of emotion. But I know it's not true; I am only this way because I let the tequila taunt me. The memory of Barrin's cold body and the holes caused by the bullets on his corpse made me want to pull an attack on anyone involved in his death. It's more heartbreaking to learn that my Aria was involved in it. We were fine; why did she have to be a part of my misery?I will never forgive myself for Barrin's death; he wouldn't have ended up with this kind of fate if I didn't choose to love Aria. We would be living in perfect harmony and have nothing to do with the Prowler's pack. I have avoided them for years and steered clear of that doomed pack, but I don't think I can let this slide any longer.I felt a sudden burst of anger inside me when I remembered Aria's confession about being a biological member of the devil pack. As much as I love her, I do not intend to return on my promise to end any soul relating to th
Aria's POV..."I think she has regained consciousness," I heard a voice say over me.I blinked slowly, trying to adjust my eyes to the beaming light. I felt the spot I was lying in; it was a bed. Squinting my eyes slowly, it appears to be my room. I tried to remember how I got here, and then a flash of Barrin bleeding and me trying to help him back rushed through my head. Like someone being pricked by a nail, I jumped off the bed."Hey! What are you doing?" Devon's sturdy hands gripped both of my arms. "You can't just get up like that."It took me a moment to get myself together; I shook my head hurriedly. "What is going on? How did I get here? Where is Barrin?"Devon looked towards the other man in the room and gestured for him to leave us. "You will need to sit down, Aria." He implored."No, I need to know where Barrin is. Why won't you take me to him?" Tears welled up in my eyes again."I don't know how to say this to you, Aria. I just need you to know that it isn't your fault...."
Aria's POV...I wrapped my arms around myself, suddenly feeling cold. My eyes lingered on the entrance of the Prowler's pack border; it did look horrifying, but I was determined to make my way in without a doubt. I stood by a big oak tree, watching the pack soldiers walk back and forth with their eyes keenly watching the environment like a hawk. This is my chance to introduce myself and go in.I hid by the corner of the road leading directly to the pack to wait for Barrin. He sounded really worried on the phone. It's obvious not even Devon can hold himself back from exposing me. I checked my wristwatch. If I wait here any longer, the time planned for my return to the Moonstone pack will be stalled. I can't have Kyle knowing about my move before I get the chance to tell him myself.When his call came in, I was still cramped up in the truck that brought me here. Until I found a good hiding spot to make the call, I didn't answer it. Stretching my neck a bit again, the border came in sigh
Author's POV...Devon shifted uncomfortably in the chair; he kept heaving every passing second. He still hasn't heard from Aria, he had tried her line, but she wasn't picking. That is, if her phone hasn't been seized. It had been thirty minutes since the truck she was in left, and from his calculations, she should have arrived at the Prowler's pack border.Barrin couldn't help but notice the change in Devon's mood, he kept mumbling to himself, and since he returned from checking quickly on his mother, he hadn't been himself. Since he hates being nosy, Barrin thinks it's best if people tell their feelings on their own accord. Even though his friend's reaction to every passing second was distracting him, he didn't say anything.Checking his wristwatch for the umpteenth time, Devon cursed under his breath. "I can't do this!" He let out."What?" Barrin inquired tiredly, dropping the pen in his hand. "Why are you acting nuts?"Shutting his eyes tightly, his lip
Aria's POV...My heart paced rapidly as I watched Kyle get ready to leave. I'm trying my hardest to not give my thought away as my palm greased the spot he had marked me. There is still little burning sensation from it. I have to be more careful with my thoughts until he leaves to avoid him getting a whiff of my intention. His mark has brought us closer, and our minds are more linked now than ever. I can only hope I don't get into trouble until we both return to the pack."Someone looks unhappy to see me leave." He teased, cupping my face in his palm.Without a word, I leaned into his chest, placing my ear on his beating heart. It feels almost the same as mine. I guess we will both miss each other a bit too much."Don't take too long before you return," I warned.Kyle chuckled; the sound tickled my ear. "yes, ma'am. I promise to be back as soon as it's all over. But you have to promise me you would take care and not wander around." He said, holding me forw
